I've heard a couple of other people describe that dodge. FFS, I use a probiotic supplement and it has a child proof cap. These are freaking tablets of basically high density yogurt culture. What's some kid going to do if it eats a handful? Ferment?

'Kid proof' = geezer proof. I have to look real hard to find a bottle of Aleve i can open in the morning in the dark. When I do find an easy open container, I usually save it and decant refills into it.

I don't know what the law is in the US for this kind of thing, but I wouldn't be surprised. Who ever would be inspecting?

When I last bought some IKEA furniture I paid to have the delivery guys put it together. Then I saw they were about to bolt a chest of drawers to my bedroom wall! I said I didn't want them to because I wanted to be able to move it. They said that BY LAW they had to bolt anything to the wall that could tip over and hurt/kill a child. What? Even when I told them that not only did I not have any children, but that I could guarantee that no small children would ever be darkening my doorstep, he said that the law was the law. I asked to speak to his boss, which I did, then the boss spoke to the guy and - get this - told him if I didn't want the chest of drawers bolted to the wall he was to take it apart and I could assemble it myself (!!!). I think the delivery guy saw how unreasonable this was, so he agreed to leave it unbolted and assembled if, in the event of an inspection (wtf?), I promised to say I assembled it myself. Sheesh.

Thank God, no one has thought to put safety closures on wine bottles.

I got nothing. You get ambushed at the door even though the only thing you pass on the way is an appliance display. I am strong, but I've never considered trying to squirrel a dishwasher on the shelf under the cart.

Great metaphors! And I totally relate. One of the ordeals of a trip to the US used to be going to places like that to stock up on things that are inexplicably expensive overseas. And what's with the post checkout check. Don't you walk right from the checkout to the door?
