As a Nurse - In response to the discussion about persons struggling with obesity being banned from playing on certian levels of a game. In order for it to work they would be wise to incorporate body fat percentage into the mix and not solely look at body mass index (weight to height ratio). The reason why I say this is I know it is common to misdiagnose obesity by only looking at Body Mass Index. Peace, Kris

My main problem with Stalker was that the individual environments were too small to be immersive, and too big to be really nicely designed.

Cheers for the epic comment as usual - I genuinely look forward to it each time. "Unless you make your own engine, accept the fact that you can only get an already dated engine." A bit of a bon mot from Mr Hardingham there, I think. "These dudes added normal mapping to the Half Life engine." That's so awesome. Female 50-year-old AvP2 player - also very awesome. "Money has no cholesterol, no color, no fat." Love it. "FarCry has the best checkpoint save system. Not the best save system, just the best checkpoint system." Ooh, I think Ian's point was that it uses checkpoints to overcome the inadequacies of ALL save systems. Unfortunately, we both hated STALKER. I think it was a combination of the MASSIVELY over-hyped nature of it, the slight horror bent that it had, and its clunkiness. I don't COMPLAIN when other people say they like it - it's a perfectly legitimate game to like - it has a lot of good qualities - we just didn't like it. ZRP looks interesting tho. We'll do your question next time - thanks.

- engine changes are tough. You just can't copy-paste the code base to the new engine. You can salvage the artwork, but not the code. I agree with Ian, unless you make your own engine, accept the fact that you can only get an already dated engine. - Paul: you got that right! But I'll not do that DLC vs. modding again. You will see however people upgrading existing engines: http://www.moddb.com/mods/paranoia These dudes added normal mapping to the Half Life engine. Ian: I think you're right about the UDK. I feel that Epic said to itself:"Well, we have some (good) mods for UT3, why not give them the engine? If their game becomes a success, we'll get money. If not, we get publicity." - my sister is quite the hardcore Quake 3 player. Not good enough to beat me, but good enough so that if she focuses on just fragging me I miss the top spot. And I know at least 3 girls playing a less known FPS, called Aliens vs. Predator 2. One of them is 50 years old. Another is 21. - fat people: bull-$h!t. Money has no cholesterol, no color, no fat. They'll alow them in. - iPhone games: publishers wanting to get out from the iPhone? Great! The market will become again less crowded ;) @Ian: iPhone is the more (most?) democratic platform? With updates not worth publishing? And publishers wanting to get out because of less control on their product? I don't get it, how's that democratic? - Steam is almost external. TF2 and other Source mods requires the steam client to be running in order to start. So although the client is external, as soon as you code in your game to require to have steam running, it's no longer that external. Steam is more than the client, it is also the code that goes in the game distributed with Steam. So if you must change the game code anyway, why not get rid of the external client alltogether? FarCry has the best checkpoint save system. Not the best save system, just the best checkpoint system. Play STALKER (the first one). Patch it using the ZRP mod (it's actually an unofficial patch). Here's my question: what do you think of Desura? http://www.moddb.com/groups/desura/news/our-thoughts-on-desura http://www.moddb.com/groups/desura/news/desura-facts-questions-and-answers
