On October 31, 2017, Africa Program Director Monde Muyangwa presented at the Emerging Security Sector Leaders Seminar hosted by the Africa Center for Strategic Studies. This seminar convened over 50 mid-level security professionals from over 40 African countries. Dr. Muyangwa addressed key governance challenges facing Africa over the next ten years at the session “Africa’s Security Challenges: Looking Ahead.” She discussed the role of domestic and international stakeholders to manage these challenges and examined successful approaches to improving governance in Africa.

From July 10 to 13, 2017, the Wilson Center Africa Program hosted the 2017 annual Southern Voices Network for Peacebuilding (SVNP) conference at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C.  Under the theme, “Peacebuilding in Africa - What Works?” the conference served as a forum for substantive, productive, and enlightening discussions on major issues for peacebuilding in Africa, as well as an opportunity for sharing the work of the 21 SVNP member organizations.
