This blog by Boris Weissman http://www.datrium.com/vms-dont-lie-do-arrays/ has a graph illustrating how network latency dominates SSD latency. If you have a Queue Depth of 128 (say, 4 hosts with 32 queue depth) the network latency is 3ms which completely dominates SSD latency. Flash really does belong in the host.

Comment on Recipe of How To fix most VMware View Agent issues by wolfegang76

Thu, 06 Jul 2017 13:19:09 +0000

Worked like a champ -- My issue was that after upgrading from Horizon View 5.3.x to 6.2.3 -- a handful of VMs would not "play well" with the connection server. I kept seeing "waiting for agent", and nothing more. (Yes, tried manually uninstalling/reinstalling both vmtoolz and the agent -- no dice -- and tried powe cycling, removing, adding back to view... etc...) I used the above steps (NOTE: had to boot to a PE disc in order to delete the VMware VDM key completely...) Additionally, I removed the problem VMs from view before performing all of these steps in order. And lastly, in Win7, it's ..\Program Data as opposed to "docs and settings\..."... Thank you for this post!

Comment on VDI Calculator by Prashant Rangi

Thanks for the reply Andre. Yes, I hope adding RDSH Sizing model be great help for administrators looking for Sizing for task workers. VMWARE itself adding lot of new features specially in RUSH. Recently they come up with Horizon Apps in 7.1. Adding profile will help in storage Sizing to the administrators. At present VDI calculator is limited to Connection Server, Security Server & vCenter. Adding AAP Volumes, crops, instant clones can surely be an added advantage.

@Prashant that would be a great addition. Are you bale to come up with a sizing model for RDSH? On Profiles and User Data that a tricky one, but I guess we could at least add profile sizes.

Hello Andre, As we come across many use cases of RDSH. Do you have any plan to add RDSH Sizing calculator as well? Also any plan to include Profile & User Data IOPS to be included in Sizing.

Comment on The One with the GPU Graphics Performance by Apps4Rent

Fri, 12 May 2017 16:03:20 +0000

@f.vanderploeg: XenMotion is NOT supported for vGPU-enabled VMs. Hopefully in the future, and the latest vGPU profile addition (K280Q) could enable XenServer to support those scenarios. With windows 2016, MS now supports OpenGL and CUDA. With windows 2012 on physical server, you can provide only upto 126 MB vGPU RAM to a virtual machine. However, with windows 2016, a 2GB GPU can be provided to single VM. You can also assign it in parts, say, 512 MB per VM, 1 GB per VM. Obviously, with discrete device assignment, a GPU can be attached as pass through device as well.
