A New Direction for the Web

Over the past several months Web Services has been evaluating new web platforms. We’re happy to announce that our proposal to go with WordPress has been approved by the Technology Planning and Priorities Committee (TPPC) and Tuesday Group.  The implementation project will be named Web2020A redesigned Admissions site will be our pilot site on WordPress with a targeted launch of Spring 2018.

New Faculty/Staff Gateway Launched

(image) In mid-March, Web Services, in conjunction with the Dean of the College office, launched a new Faculty/Staff Gateway page designed to provide quick and personalized access to the sites and tools used most frequently by this audience. The old Faculty/Staff landing page remained essentially unchanged since 2001, but over those 16 years the number of links displayed had grown to a daunting and unmanageable length.

New Student Gateway Launched

(image) This past summer, Web Services and the Dean of Students office redesigned the Student Gateway, an entry point to Carleton's student-oriented services and information. This page was long overdue to be refreshed using current design, technology, and best practices.

Optimize your Website with Siteimprove

(image) Web Services recently added a new service called Siteimprove to help optimize content on Carleton's websites. Siteimprove indexes Carleton websites to identify misspellings and broken links, detect discoverability and accessibility issues, and provide a powerful query engine for finding patterns across Carleton sites. Soon we’ll launch a new feature powered by Siteimprove data: monthly email reports for Reason site maintainers including data about misspellings and broken links.

Reason Showcase Highlights Exemplary Web Content

Searching Carleton's Web: Now Powered by Google

If you haven't searched for something on Carleton's web site recently, be prepared for a pleasant surprise. The Web Services Group has rolled out a new search interface powered by an on-site Google server, so the search page and the results you see will look a lot like what you expect from Google's own site.
