2017-12-13T12:54:54.298Z

This Nat. Film Board of Canada animation is a timeless Christmas classic - The Great Toy Robbery.

Lots of possibilities for use as a video short in class. I've used it countless times in class.

1. Stop occasionally and ask students to predict what will happen next.

2. Watch the whole video and get students to write out and describe an alternate version.

3. Watch the whole video with the sound off. Get students to write the narration. Play again with students…

5. Vocabulary.  Prepare a vocab list and get students to notice it in the vide (cactus, gun, sleigh etc ....)

6. Get students to write their own play version with dialog and roleplay the scenes in English.

7. Watch the whole video but pause using the worksheet provided. Students fill in in their own words. After, show suggested answers and take up.

8. Read the story first and then watch. What's different?  What version did you like best?  Book or movie?

Writing An Obituary

2017-12-07T18:31:11.696Z

At the end of a year, it's a great December lesson to have students research a famous person who died and write their obituary.

You can use this very simple obituary organizer attached. Students use it to research, take notes, present to the class. After, they can write out the whole obituary.

Additionally can look at some real obituaries like in the powerpoint attached - to model the necessary things that need to be covered.
