I'd like to see how the great hitters performed against Sandy Koufax from 1962 thru 1966, when he was without question, the greatest pitcher of all time.

I attended my first baseball game in 1957. My father and I sat in the left field bleachers in the first Busch Stadium. Tickets were 75 cents. There was a little known outfielder playing for Pittsburgh. About 50 feet from our seats. He pounded the Cardinals that night. None other than Roberto Clemente.

For a half-dozen years or so, Cain was a horse. All those innings caught up to him by age 28, but he was a very fine pitcher while it lasted. You're correct. He probably belongs among the top five best "losing" pitchers.

Time to update the list, Matt Cain HAS to be top 5. Found this old article while trying to research Matt Cain's greatness when he announced his retirement today.

That was fantastic... I loved reading it. Gwynn vs. Maddux, Koufax vs Aaron, Gibson vs Matthews... Great matchups with players in their prime; guess good pitching doesn't always stop good hitting.

You can add the 2017 Houston Astros who are now 40-16 to this list.
