Samsung’s Galaxy S9 And S9+ Are Super Cameras (And, Oh, Yeah, Phones)

Sun, 25 Feb 2018 12:00:20 GMT

A lot hasn’t changed much from last year’s Galaxy S models. But new dual-aperture technology could be a meaningful step forward for low-light photography.

In 2012, Samsung announced a device called the Galaxy Camera. Though it looked like a garden-variety point-and-shoot camera with a big zoom lens, it ran the Android operating system and had built-in cellular connectivity, letting you use apps and share photos and videos from anywhere, just like you can do with a smartphone. Its slogan: “Camera. Reborn.”

Bob’s Red Mill’s 89-Year-Old CEO Starts His Day With (Duh) Carbs

Sun, 25 Feb 2018 05:00:10 GMT

Bob Moore shares the morning routines and work habits he’s relied on to run his employee-owned Oregon food brand for four decades.

Lots of people struggle to get up early and eat the right (or any) breakfast to stay energized through the first half of a busy workday. How To Interview For A Job When You’ve Been The Boss For Years

Sat, 24 Feb 2018 05:00:23 GMT

Being the interviewee when you’ve been the interviewer for a long time is a big shift. Use this checklist to help you succeed.

As a leader, you’ve probably got the role of interviewer down pat. You know just what to ask, how to ask it, and how to make a quick assessment of the person sitting across the desk from you. And, whether you realize it or not, you’re also likely an expert at making snap, unconscious decisions about candidates, which will directly impact their progression (or lack thereof) in the process.

The Parkland Teens Are Part Of A Long Line Of Kids Who Led Social Change

Fri, 23 Feb 2018 17:01:01 GMT

The brave group of Florida high school students leading the fight for gun control are carrying on a long legacy of kids growing politically active—and powerful.

They may not be old enough to vote, but the high school students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school are impacting the political conversation about gun control in the U.S. in a way few adults have the bravery to do. The teens who witnessed 17 of their classmates murdered are pressuring senators, the NRA, and the president, and forcing a national conversation about gun violence. And they are just getting started.

There were a lot of weird things happening at Gucci’s show at Milan Fashion Week on Wednesday. For one thing, the room was designed to look like a terrifying hospital, with models strutting around two operating tables with harsh yellow light streaming down on them. Several models walked onstage carrying what appeared to be their severed heads. Others had third eyes on their foreheads. Several carried strange creatures, like snakes and baby dragons.

Snapchat’s new update has triggered a wave of backlash from Kylie Jenner to Maybelline–and all of us regular users in between.

When Instagram first started taking blatant cues from Snapchat’s success in the form of Instagram Stories, it was easy to feel a little bad for Snap. But the numbers don’t lie–Instagram is far surpassing Snapchat in daily users and, most recently, user experience.

How Marvel’s Go-To Team Created The Futuristic Tech Of “Black Panther”

Fri, 23 Feb 2018 14:00:14 GMT

Design firm Perception has spent nearly a decade creating the tech and gadgets in Marvel films–and what you see onscreen isn’t far from reality.

How technology is represented in films has a long, unintentionally comical history in Hollywood. There are lists upon lists of examples that show a complete disregard for common logic in favor of trying to advance the story in a noticeable way. But creative minds at the technology design firm Perception don’t think that way.

Fri, 23 Feb 2018 13:20:52 GMT

“Convicting a Murderer” is currently being shopped around to potential distributors and will explore some more incriminating things about Steven Avery.

Making a Murderer is getting a makeover. Much like the way E.L. James retold the tale of Fifty Shades of Grey from the POV of Christian Grey in the companion novel Grey, the story of Steven Avery will soon be seen from another angle in the forthcoming Convicting a Murderer.

Vinod Khosla, who owns 89 acres of beachfront property in California’s San Mateo county, just wants people to stay off his beach. To be clear, he’s referring to Martins Beach, which was public up until Khosla bought the surrounding property in 2008 and closed off access to the beach–which he did without obtaining a permit from the California Coastal Commission. Khosla is now taking his case to the U.S. Supreme Court to contest a California court of appeals ruling in August, which forced him to open the beach to the public again.

This Island Nation Swapped Some Of Its Debt To Protect Its Oceans

Fri, 23 Feb 2018 12:30:26 GMT

In an innovative financial arrangement, the Seychelles and the Nature Conservancy have found ways for developing countries to free up funds to protect their natural resources.

Almost a thousand miles off the coast of Kenya, the tiny African nation of Seychelles–where most of the population lives on a group of islands with a total area roughly the size of Lincoln, Nebraska–has protected a piece of the Indian Ocean the size of the U.K. The new protected marine area, home to endangered sea turtles and coral reefs, is possible because of a unique financial deal that helped the country swap some of its debt for nature.

This Is The Right Way To Ask Your Boss For Feedback

Fri, 23 Feb 2018 12:00:30 GMT

In the ideal world, we’ll all get constructive feedback. In the real world, we have to ask for it strategically.

I recently read an interesting stat from PwC that indicated nearly 60% of polled employees said they would like feedback from their bosses on a daily or weekly basis. More interesting than that, for employees under age 30, the desire for regular feedback flow jumped to 72%.
