At the Edge of the Edge

Sun, 26 Oct 2008 15:01:32 +0000

Now that the ‘frant’ (new word!) of spring and summer have slipped by, when life on our 15 acre small-holding is full-on, in keeping pace with the demands of the growing season – new space appears as the leaves fall and a restless need to take stock of life emerges again. So, the blogging season, consequently, has returned. I’m personally excited about this, as the exercise of ‘catching-up with my head’ is both therapeutic and intellectually demanding!

Pause for thought

Mon, 10 Dec 2007 14:37:00 +0000

Yesterday, when out in our 7 acre field, feeding our Jacob Sheep, I stood on the highest point in the field and looked all about. What could I see?

Where are the 'encouraging' green ideas?

Wed, 28 Nov 2007 15:50:00 +0000

My ‘mentors’ at the Westmorland Gazette, Kate Whiteside and Andrew Thomas made contact with me last week, politely inquiring why my ‘Down to Earth’ blog contributions to ‘Going Green’ had come to a stand-still. I replied that I was having trouble putting together some positive, encouraging ‘green’ ideas and thoughts when so much doom and gloom reporting was hurting my head, making me want to hide away. In denial, in effect!

OPEN GARDEN DAY (National Garden Scheme) AT SPRINT MILL

We were blessed with a beautiful day of bright sun and crisp, gleaming river.

HURRAH FOR THE LOCAL COUNCILS!

Wed, 08 Aug 2007 13:39:00 +0100

Over recent weeks I have discovered the absolute delight of using a one-wheeled trailer behind my bike. The trailer has a splendid capacity for a good shopping trip topping up with essential needs. I am mystified why more folk don’t use such trailers!

APPLICATION OF “LESS IS BEAUTIFUL”...

Tue, 07 Aug 2007 08:38:00 +0100

In our general attempt to learn about moving towards an active ‘being and living off-less-future’, my wife, Romola and myself public-transported ourselves on 21st of July to the first Lancashire and NW Scythe Festival near Rossendale in Lancashire. (bike/train/train/train/bus/bike!).

MEDIA COVERAGE ON GREEN/CLIMATE CHANGE ISSUES IS HOTTING UP!

Mon, 06 Aug 2007 13:33:00 +0100

I have been observing a huge range of comments on this theme in the National Press and other promotion material.

Down To Earth

Mon, 11 Jun 2007 08:57:00 +0100

Just back from a wonderful break from this place. The island of Colonsay is one of our most favourite spaces in which to let go of home stuff and mesh into ‘another world.’

Down To Earth

Am still trying to find my way into this new medium - ‘blogging’. Have checked out the reactions/feedback. Nine to date. Thanks to those who have responded. I am really keen to establish a dialogue. I need to know what readers want and even don’t want, as that stimulates the ‘conversation.’

A slow start today. Some days feel like that - thank goodness!

The 'good life' is far from simple!

Wed, 11 Apr 2007 13:24:00 +0100

Last week’s feature in the Westmorland Gazette - 'Blogging insight into the Good Life’ - correctly quoted me as saying "I believe that people will have to let go of the freedom to have everything they want to take the pressure off the planet."

'Down To Earth' begins a new life

Tue, 27 Mar 2007 12:24:00 +0100

Some of you may recall, back in 1996, the Westmorland Gazette invited me to write a monthly feature entitled ‘Down to Earth’ – all about a year in the life of an environmentally aware household. They phoned recently and asked if I’d like to continue the story via a blog Web site on the internet. After some discussion I have decided to take up the offer!
