I liked that you suggested asking your potential lender if you need to pay any points on your loan. More specifically you said that points are what you pay to reduce the interest rate on your loan. I think it's a good idea to find a great home lender by word of referrals from friends and family that are also new home-buyers.

These are some great tips for getting a good mortgage. I like how you talked about getting pre-approved before looking for a house. I can imagine how frustrating it would be to have to settle for a lender.

Getting a mortgage loan can be confusing, especially for those who have never done it. I appreciate the information you have here. The tip about pre-qualifying is especially helpful, since that makes the loan get done so much quicker. I wish I had known that when I was younger.

I didn't realize that banks didn't report mortgages to the credit bureau. After reading your article it does make a lot more sense for banks not to report it. This is something I will have to ask more about when I purchase a home for the first time. Thanks for sharing.

Just wanted to say thanks for the informative article. I have been researching diversifying my portfolio into rental properties or REIT. I'm leaning towards REIT's now for the simple fact that I don't have to worry about managing tenants. The ROI of REIT is appealing to me and with a little more due diligence I think I will take the plunge!
