Looks like this blog needs a more attentive writer.

I hope this finds you and yours doing well. May we display your header on our new site directory? As it is now, the site title (linked back to its home page) is listed, and we think displaying the header will attract more attention. In any event, we hope you will come by and see what is going on at SiteHoundSniffs.com.

Niese's stats so far this season are not surprising to many in MLB, and especially not to many NY Mets fans.

Re: The new status quo

Sat, 28 May 2016 12:37:07 -0000

A bit too pessimistic about Niese and too optimistic about the bullpen (five holes to fill) but otherwise spot on.

Re: Concern? Maybe a little…

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 20:16:59 -0000

Freese hitting .342 to start the season.... only 1 2B out of those 13 hits but doesn't seem like his spot is the issue right now to me.

Hello there, Brian, and good to hear from you! Now please forgive me dude, but you need to relax just a bit. Myself being a Bucs fan for over 50 years (and this is entirely the fault of the late, great Roberto Clemente, and may he forever rest in peace), please allow me say that you need only to sit back and relish what this current crop of Pittsburgh Pirates are about to accomplish in the next few years. RTJR!

Thanks Brian, i too will be checking in to read your thoughts.
Let's Go Bucs! RTJR

Are you not doing any more postings?

Re: Pirates acquire Jason Rogers

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 12:48:03 -0000

I think he is definitely a good depth option to have in his 180ish Plate appearances in the MLB he has hit decently against both lefties and righties. His defense isn't very good where ever you put him but he'll probably be primarily first and corner out field with being an emergency third base option as long as he is hitting.

Even if he only ends up being quad-A depth, he is cheap and has many years of control

Re: Another era ends: Walker to NY

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 16:51:39 -0000

It was a good baseball trade! It was a trade for a pitcher the Pirates covet! Stop crying over Walker and his 1 year left! He was a liability in the batters box and in the lineup who couldn't hit nothing but a fastball.

Re: Another era ends: Walker to NY

Help me out...when has he been hosed by the Mets in the past? The only recent trade I can remember with them was Marlon Byrd and that turned out pretty well.

Who else was going to trade for Niese and give them as much in return ?
NH got hosed by the Mets again.
There is something going on between the Mets and NH .
I am not a conspiracy nut but this and other bad deals that NH has made with the METS lead me to believe that someday NH is going to reside in the big apple.

Re: The end of the Pedro era

"It’ll be interesting to see how people look back at Alvarez’s time with the Pirates."
What will stand out eventually is that 2016 was the year that the new and improved Pittsburgh Pirates had finally outgrown the need for one dimensional players.

Re: The end of the Pedro era

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 10:51:43 -0000

Morse is probably the best option (assuming healthy and not suspended again lol) since Adam LaRoche who hit .271/.343/.478 with 46 HRs in two full seasons with the pirates and wasn't the worst with a glove

Morse is a career .270+ hitter against both lefties and righties. Has some pop to get 20+HRs and won't cost as many runs on defense. On top of that he is 'fairly' cheap with the dodgers paying half of his salary next year.

Yeah Morse could be done at the end of his career.. but i doubt it.. his bad play of late has other issues running around it and when he did get time in Pittsburgh it was over all pretty good.

They picked up Gobbert as a depth option and probably should keep an eye out for another even if it is Ike Davis or GI Jones as a just in case but going after Chris Davis who has his own issues really isn't an option.

There are some trade options out there but really not a major issue.. and should be looking at pitching instead.

the saved 5-8M they got from the non-tender should be put back into getting more pitching. With Happ signing at 12M avg, Zimmerman at 22M average and price at 32M we have a good idea that a quality mid rotation guy will cost about 15-18M/ year

With AJ gone and Pedro's saved money.. they have about 16M available getting a Latos, Leake, Fister or Kazmir shouldn't' be a problem financially and probably leaves enough room for picking up a couple project pitchers for the pen or starter.

Why people continue to try to stretch singles into doubles on Marte, I don't know...

I couldn't agree more... I'm ready to check out for the next couple weeks and hopefully root for Russ Martin in the World Series. So frustrating, but a hell of season. You did a great job all year, yet again. Love the site and following along. Let's go bucs.

Re: Marte saves the day

Please. Someone tell me the logic behind leaving Cole on the mound with us down four runs bottom of the fifth??? There is NO tomorrow if we lose.

I am a Cubs fan, and all I have to say is this: Whoever wins, please beat the Cardinals. This I think we can both agree on!

Re: Who makes the Wild Card roster? How about the lineup?

Polonco
McCutchen
J-Hay
Marte
Cervelli
Pedro
Walker

Cole

Re: That. Was. Awful.

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 11:43:46 -0000

How Lance Lynn continued to dance out of danger was beyond me. Well, besides the fact that Jason Heyward is a Cardinal outfielder. That helped some.

I really am hoping for a Cardinal win today (weather permitting) because even going to Atlanta, two up with three to play still worries me. I saw 2011. I know the Cards could be on the wrong side of that one of these days.

Re: That. Was. Awful.

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 09:32:44 -0000

We have without question the Pitchers, and the Defense to actually win a World Series, the question is offense, These guys get it in their noggin's that when facing an Ace pitcher, that they are unhittable , with think like that your not going to hit, thus your not going to win, everyone pitcher is hittable , they need to do a much better job at protecting the plate, I saw this in their last win, two pirates players of not just stand their and take the third strike, protect the plate at least swing the damn bat , do something !

Re: A comeback for naught

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 10:01:08 -0000

Correct about the confusion over the Pirates' second run. I was at the game and thought they blew that one. All of the drama with the Cubs' sudden shoddy defense and the Pirates' baserunning stumbles distracted from Rodriguez crossing the plate. Pretty exciting play.

Re: Going down quietly

The way you handle an ace like Arietta is you run up the counts and get him out after five or six innings. Then you win with the bullpen
