Santa Claus Belletrist And Added Christmas Traditions

2011-12-15T21:53:12.582-08:00

Writing Santa Claus belletrist is conceivably one of the oldest and best admired Christmas traditions. The acumen is simple really. This attitude focuses on a anniversary icon; a hero that kids adore. And kids can accept a acceptable timethis attitude with or after the captivation of their parents. All they charge is cardboard and pencil to achieve this attitude happen. But of course, that's

Each day comes bearing its own gifts. Untie the ribbons. ~Ruth Ann SchabackerBy now most of you know that I like to participate in craft swaps and the three I joined this fall were outstanding. Each swap was different and unique and I received the most beautiful things - all gifts of the heart and imagination. The last and latest was a Christmas ornament swap. The rules were pretty simple.

Happy Sunday to all. Last night we went to my sister-in-law's hospital Christmas party and I thought I would post some pictures. This was inside the photo booth. The pictures were free from 8:30 to 10:00 and you could come back as many times as you wanted to. This is Sharon, my sister-in-law and myself. They had all of these fun hats, boas, etc. on a table and you could pick whatever you wanted to

Taking Down the Christmas Tree!

2011-12-12T00:13:06.304-08:00

Wow, I haven't been able to visit many Christmas blogs lately, but I'm going to do that today! I've been very busy as I'm sure all of you have been with Thanksgiving last week and decorating for the holidays. We decorated the outside of our house Sat. and Sun. and it looks so pretty. I plopped into my recliner Sunday evening and told my hubby that's it...time to rest for the evening...or wait...

The Holidays Are Near!

2011-12-12T00:13:06.305-08:00

Yes, the holidays must be here again!Every year when she drags out all of the Christmas STUFF, she always seems to come across these ridiculous reindeer antlers and takes pictures of me wearing them!Oh, I hope my buddies don't see me wearing these! Finally, I'm free of these silly antlers! Maybe if I chew a nice hole in them, I won't have to go through this again next year!! Good grief!  :-)

Christmas Decorating Photos, #3

2011-12-12T00:13:06.305-08:00

Well, these are the last of the photos to share. I do have my tree up, but things have been hectic so far this week, and it's still not decorated. I'm going to try and get this done in the next few days. I also have a lot of cleaning to finish since I'm having my family over for Thanksgiving. It seems like things will never get done in time, but somehow it always works out! I have some shopping

Christmas Decorating Photos, # 2

2011-12-12T00:13:06.305-08:00

Well, I took out my Christmas tree today and of course it couldn't be as easy as putting it together and actually having it work! I go through this every year having light problems. There were four branches on the bottom that just would not work no matter what we tried to do to correct the problem. Nasty words just seemed to flow from my mouth that I'm not very proud of and didn't fix the problem

Ankh-Morpork is Martin Wallace's venture into the family market as regards game design. It's by far his lightest game and has a fair amount of random chaos in it. This in itself will turn a lot of hard-core gamers off as they cannot control everything that happens on the board. I myself can play both types of game, you have approach them with a different take that's all.It plays from 2-4 and Tina

Handmade Cricut Christmas Cards

2011-12-12T00:13:06.311-08:00

Well, I've been busy working on my Christmas cards with my new cricut machine. There's soooo much to learn! I'm enjoying making these cards, but sometimes it's just a little frustrating trying to figure out how to use the different features. Card making can also become a big expense to get started. I took these to a craft store that we frequent to show the ladies there and to get their opinion,

Building a Gingerbread House

I don't know if I could eat up a gingerbread house after all of the work that goes into making one, they are just so darn cute! We may go this year since we haven't been there in a while.

B.E. Taylor Silent Night

This is a beautiful version of Silent Night. B.E. Taylor has made it his own. He's from our area, Aliquippa, Pa. It began in 1994, with this single which was widely accepted by all. He and his band do a Christmas tour annually  to 40,000 fans which sells out two nights at the Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh and and two nights at the Capitol Music  Hall in Wheeling. I always hear his Christmas songs

2011-12-12T00:13:06.312-08:00

I wanted to tell you...and some of you may already know this...but I did not, that a follower of my blog left me a comment on one of my posts which I was thrilled about because I love reading comments, but it was in her own language and I could not read it. Jersey Tiger Moth

2011-12-12T00:13:06.312-08:00

I have been keeping an eye on the Buddlia bush in the garden, on the lookout for any different butterflies that I could photograph and I spotted this little beauty. I took a few photos and tried to identify the species. Well, it took a bit of research but I finally found out that it's called the 'Jersey Tiger Moth'. Apparently quite rare in England, but not in ....ahem, Jersey, or hereabouts

My First Cricut Card

2011-12-12T00:13:06.313-08:00

Well, I finally got to try out my new Cricut Create and made my first card. I think it turned out fairly nice, but needless to say, I need lots of practice. It took a very long time putting the glue on the words. Very tedious. I think I may try fonts in my computer and printing out the holiday phrases instead...if I can figure out how to do it that way! I know there has to be a way of doing this.

Soon the sports fan will have no option but to subscribe to Sky as well as pay a licence fee. Premiership football has gone, test match cricket has gone and now half the F1 races as well. Here in Austria I don't know how that will

I did a little online "shopping" and found some things I thought would make sweet decorations for the home or even cute little Christmas gifts without breaking the bank! I have overspent for the holidays many times in the past. It's ridiculous! I sometimes wonder if the person that I bought for even remembers what they received from one Christmas to the next. It's nice to give for the holidays,

The weather this past week has been exceptionally hot and humid as many of you know. I thought about this song, Sleigh Ride. I knew that it had it's beginnings during a heat wave in July. I love to watch the Boston Pops Christmas concerts and this is how I heard that it was written in the middle of a heat wave.  I did some checking and it was in July of 1946 that the original idea for the piece

One is opened every day during Advent. Each window opens to reveal an image, a poem, or a portion of a

2011-12-12T00:13:06.318-08:00

Really hot, been really hot for a while now. Of course, we get quite a few thunderstorms as well. Anyway, we have had Tina's sister to stay with us for a few weeks and she is not averse to playing a game or two. We played TTR - Switzerland, London and Khan a few times.Last weekend here in St. Wolfgang it was the Scalaria Air Challenge. Lots of seaplanes land on the lake and there are displays,

Christmas Angels

2011-12-12T00:13:06.318-08:00

Angel comes from the Greek and Hebrew words meaning "messenger." The angels that were a part of the Christmas Story were delivering a message. The angel Gabriel brought news to Mary that she was chosen to bear God's son.Joseph was told by angels about the child who was to come and not be afraid of having Mary as his wife.Source: fanpop.com via Dorothy on PinterestAn angel appeared before the

Christmas in July

2011-12-12T00:13:06.318-08:00

This July you can go out and take your pick of any "Christmas in July" sales.  Typically, these sales are put out by retailers to get rid of excess stock, sometimes Christmas merchandise, to make room for the next season's stock.  Places like Michael's starts putting out their holiday stock in September for all those people who are way ahead of schedule in getting their Christmas crafting

Handmade Christmas Card Inspiration

2011-12-12T00:13:06.319-08:00

Who doesn't like to receive a homemade Christmas card? I love them. I used to make them a couple of years ago, but got away from it, not enough time, but they are so beautiful to receive! Recently I ordered a card making magazine to see if I could get some inspiration to try my hand at it again. I guess the thing to do would be to start early in the race! Here are a few ideas to inspire those who

Christmas Cross Stitch

2011-12-12T00:13:06.319-08:00

One thing that I like to do to keep Christmas in my thoughts is to do some cross stitch.  I have a few projects on the go, but it's a great thing to do on a rainy afternoon.  Before you know it, a couple of hours have passed by and you have a great memento for the holidays.  Some things are quick, like an ornament, or a bookmark.  Others take a large amount of time, sometimes years to finish.  A

The Christmas Rose

2011-12-12T00:13:06.320-08:00

Christmas Rose or Helleborous Niger is an English plant that blooms in the winter in the mountains of Central Europe. It produces flowers from late fall to early spring. By tradition, the Christmas Rose should be planted by the door in order that it might welcome Jesus Christ into the home. Isn't it wonderful to know there is a flower that blooms in the dead of winter! Plant CareThe Legend of the

Who Knows Where The Time Goes....

2011-12-12T00:13:06.320-08:00

....So says the old Sandy Denny song. It's been over a month since my last post....where does it go? Anyway, I have been pretty caught up playing a couple of Facebook games, Warstorm and War Metal Tyrant. Both collectible card games, Warstorm is fantasy themed and Tyrant is warfare, tanks, planes etc. Unfortunately they are both pretty addictive and I spend much too much time playing them (you

Kugels

2011-12-12T00:13:06.320-08:00

European Art glass balls for holiday decoration are still commonly referred to in Austria and Germany as Kugels. Kugels range in shape and styles, according to the artist that made them and the season they are displayed. It is quite common to display egg shaped kugels at Easter and Heart shapes at Valentines day. Quality kugels are hand blown or mouth blown art glass. Most are blown into an apple

Largest Gingerbread City in Bergen, Norway

2011-12-12T00:13:06.321-08:00

In my previous post on gingerbread houses, I mentioned about the largest gingerbread city in Bergen, Norway. Assa, from Nissas Juleblogg sent me this link The-Worlds-largest-Ginger-snap-City. When I went to the website and saw the picture of the gingerbread city, which is free for children under the age of 12 to make their own house with the help of their parents, I was amazed in how much work

Gingerbread Houses

2011-12-12T00:13:06.321-08:00

This is one of 26 beautiful Gingerbread Houses you can view in a photo gallery at Martha Stewart's Website. I can't imagine the time that goes into making one! Very creative! The harder German-style Gingerbread is often used to build gingerbread houses similar to the "witch's house" encountered by Hansel and Gretel. These houses, covered with a variety of candies and icing, are popular Christmas

Christmas Kitchen

2011-12-12T00:13:06.321-08:00

We are doing a kitchen remodel in a couple of weeks, so I got to thinking about decorating the kitchen for the holidays.  For the Christmas obsessed (like me), each room of the house gets decorated.  Not just the living room with the tree.  Each room has a Santa or some holiday pizzazz added to it.  What do you do?  Do you like to keep things simple or do you go all out?  Here are some cute

Palm Sunday and London

2011-12-12T00:13:06.322-08:00

Well, last Sunday was Palm Sunday here in Austria. At 9.30am it looked as though all the village had assembled in square by the priests house, everyone in traditional Austrian dress and all carrying large poles with fir branches, apples, ribbons and flowers attached to the tip. After the priest has given a blessing one of the local bands leads a procession through the village centre to the church

Christmas spider

2011-12-12T00:13:06.323-08:00

Up until a few years ago I had never heard of this Christmas folk tale.  Coming from the Ukraine and Germany this tale of a holiday spider helps us remember that even the smallest can make the holiday merry and bright.Once upon a time, long ago, a gentle mother was busily cleaning the house for the most wonderful day of the year.... The day on which the Christ child came to bless the house. Not a

Figgy Duff

2011-12-12T00:13:06.323-08:00

Originally coming from Newfoundland I wanted to share a little bit of my Christmas history.  This pudding is usually served on Christmas Day for supper, with the leftovers (if there are any) fried up for breakfast.  While it sounds like the name of a band or some sort of dance, figgy duff is actually a steamed, dense cake.  And despite the name, there are no figs in this traditional Newfoundland
