Rachael Johnson to Appear at Eddie Montgomery

Wed, 16 Nov 2011 19:38:00 +0000

Nashville Recording Artist Rachael Johnson to Appear at Eddie Montgomery’s With Special Guest Star, Former Mercury Recording Artist, Chris CaskeyNashville Recording Artist Rachael Johnson will join Lexington, KY native, Chris Caskey for a one night only show this Friday, Nov. 18th at the famed Eddie Montgomery’s Steakhouse, located in Harrodsburg, KY. "We are thrilled for the opportunity to play this incredible venue!  I've heard amazing things about the food, people and entertainment at Eddie Montgomery’s Steakhouse and can't wait to finally be a part!  I am looking forward to bringing our Nashville show to the great state of Kentucky!" – Rachael JohnsonA North Carolina native, Rachael Johnson, grew up in the original “Mayberry”, a place memorialized in Americans hearts as the beloved home town on the Andy Griffith Show. Although she loved NC, her heart was in Nashville and it only took one Garth Brooks concert for Rachael to decide that that’s where she had to be. Within a month of earning her Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice at Chowan University, Rachael would land a job and relocate to an empty apartment not far from Nashville’s famous Music Row and the beginning of living her dream.Over the next year Rachael would meet other artists, musicians and some of Nashville’s finest hit songwriters giving her the opportunity to assemble a band, perfect a show and hone her writing craft, expanding her catalog of original material. Music was finally paying the bills! She quit her day job and became an in demand solo artist, playing 20 to 25 shows a month in Nashville, surrounding cities and occasionally, out of state, sharing the stage with Country Stars like Jo Dee Messina, Josh Thompson, Little Texas, Dave Gibson, Chris Young, Craig Campbell and Trent Tomlinson to name a few.She would begin to amass loyal fans, frequenting her full band live shows and the respect of established songwriters by showcasing her own original songs at Nashville’s famed writer’s nights. In 2011, The Rachael Johnson Band had the distinctive honor of being named the weekly house band at Nashville’s world famous Wildhorse Saloon. Chris Caskey first tasted musical success when he signed an artist development deal with Mercury Records in 1998. A shift in label personnel would end Caskey’s time with the label and find him heading back to Lexington. However, a second chance would come twelve years later. After first hearing Chris Caskey sing at an event at the KY Music Hall of Fame in Aug of 09’, Nashville Artist Corey Frizzell, heir to the Lefty Frizzell musical heritage, teamed with Caskey and quickly began working in Nashville to put a Chris Caskey project together. By November of 2010 Frizzell successfully attained investment and put together a winning team to record, market and promote Caskey, launching his first single “God’s Pocket” to radio, debuting in January of 2011. Caskey’s first single would crossover and top out at #52 on the national Christian Voice Country Gospel Top 100 and currently holds the #98 place on the national Powersource Country Top 100. Chris is presently recording his debut album with Easton Corbin’s famed Producer, Carson Chamberlain, due to be released in winter on 2011. “Once a generation a true country talent comes along who has the rare ability to sing with nearly impossible vocal licks & raw emotion. George Jones once asked, who's gonna fill their shoes? After hearing Chris, you will know the shoe fits well.” – Corey FrizzellShow starts at 9:30pm EST. Mit „River Flows In You – The Very Best Of Yiruma“ erscheint am 2. MARIA TAYLOR5 Jahre Affairs of the Heart!

The new music video features Austin and Stevens – best friends in real life – in separate hemispheres of the globe, experiencing very different types of Christmases.    Check out the video here on will also be giving “Naughty or Nice,” the sneak peek treatment during today’s episode of GAC On the Streets, running throughout the day.   CIRCUS GIRL is featured on MSN’s Listening Booth today at:, AOL is featuring CIRCUS GIRL as part of its FULL CD Listening Party this week at:    And, AOL’s The Boot is giving away an exclusive free download of the album’s title track, “Circus Girl” here: Australian-born ACM nominee and Golden Guitar Award winner previously enjoyed success on the Country charts with her hits, “Streets of Heaven,” “Never Been Kissed,” and “Lucky in Love,” during her days on Arista Nashville and Broken Bow Records.  Most recently, Austin earned rave reviews for her starring roles on another type of stage - the New York Musical Theatre Festival’s production of Bonnie & Clyde and the Broadway productions of Ring Of Fire- The Johnny Cash Musical Show and Warrior.  Returning to Nashville in 2006, Austin has made a name for herself as an in-demand songwriter, penning songs for Trace Adkins, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw and George Strait. It is, in fact, Austin’s stint as a career songwriter helped inspire many of the songs on CIRCUS GIRL. The collection is a female-empowerment record, from  “Friday Night Girls,” the anthem for the brokenhearted single gals cutting loose and letting their hair down, to the raw, spunky, honest sensuality of “Just Wanna Love You Tonite,” to the feisty, matter-of-fact kiss-off track, “Get Your Leaving Done.” The album is a series of stories interpreted by a strong woman, about women, and for women, and Austin feels it’s something her female fans have been clamoring for, for quite some time. “The last few years I had been complaining about that fact that there weren’t any females speaking to women above the age of 30, so I started thinking about how I was writing my songs and came up with the idea for “Friday Night Girls” …I wanted to write a three minute song with every “Sex and the City” episode that had ever existed, so I did.  I quickly noticed that the women in my audiences loved it and so I switched my songwriting focus for a while to concentrate on that audience, who are my peers, to speak to them,” says Austin. At the urging of her fans, Austin decided to enter the recording “big top” once again. This time she found that a process that once had frustrated her is now exciting her agai[...]

As host of HLN’s “Morning Express with Robin Meade,” this award-winning journalist and television personality lives in a whirl of 2:30 AM weekday wakeup calls, six hours of anchoring the news each day, assignments (like skydiving with President George H. W. Bush) and honors, including induction into the Ohio Broadcasters Hall of Fame and the 2010 Gracie Award for Outstanding Anchor from American Women in Radio & Television.
But she has also loved singing in front of audiences as far back as kindergarten and Country Music specifically since first hearing a Mary Chapin Carpenter CD.
Her two sides intersect on her debut album. Brand New Day is produced by Victoria Shaw, with Billy Dean coproducing “Morning Sunshine,” which he wrote and sings with Meade. That’s one of six tracks that she co-wrote, most of them a mix of down-home and uptown. When she fumes about being stuck behind a car whose turn signal blinks for six miles on “Letting It Go” (written by Meade, Shaw and Matt Lopez) or revels in her command of big-city office politics on “Put My High Heels On” (Meade, Shaw and John Rich), you know she’s writing about what she knows, which after all is the essence of Country.
Still, when called back to her roots, Meade doesn’t disappoint. From her duet with Jim Brickman on the searing ballad “Welcome Home” (Brickman and Shaw) to her first single, a banjo-studded treatment of Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry” (Henley and Danny Kortchmar) featuring Bo Bice, Kix Brooks, Gary Burr, Sarah Buxton and Shaw, she proves that those roots thrive just under the surface.
Brand New Day is available exclusively on iTunes and in greeting card sections of Target stores.

A long time coming for Joe Ely

Tue, 15 Nov 2011 16:20:00 +0000

A long time coming for Joe Ely
Texas country rocker Joe Ely goes so long between shows in California that it’s tempting to think he’ll visit the Golden State only at gunpoint.   That’s certainly not the case, Ely said last week from his home in Lubbock as he geared up for a trip that will bring him back to the Southland for one of his rare concert stops on Thursday at the Mint in Los Angeles. But were it true, it wouldn’t be unprecedented: That’s just the way he came to the City of Angels the first time, some 45 years ago. “I was playing the old Cellar Club in Houston,” Ely, 64, said, launching a scenario that sounds like one of the richly detailed shaggy dog tales that’s been a key part of his musical repertoire since he emerged from Lubbock in the 1970s with a string of critically lauded solo albums. “I had some differences with the management one night,” he said in the languid West Texas drawl that contributes to his reputation as a canny storyteller. “I’d met some friends at the old Market Square in Houston — they were black guys — and I invited them to the club as my guests. When we got there, the bouncers pointed to a sign they kept way high over the door that read ‘$99 cover charge.’ It was there to keep blacks out of the club. That was in 1966. “It really made me mad, so I quit the club,” Ely said. “When I came back the next day to get my stuff and my paycheck, the manager pulled a gun on me. I’d never had that experience before. Right at that moment, somebody else came in the side door, so I dove and hit the front door running.     “I found a friend of mine who had enough money for two plane tickets to L.A. The only piece of equipment I had left was a [Fender] Super Reverb amplifier that I’d left back at my hotel room,” he said of the workhorse guitar amp that weighs close to 65 pounds.   “I grabbed the amp and we took the bus to Fort Worth, hopped a plane to L.A. My friend only knew one person in L.A., and that was in Venice. We walked there from the L.A. airport, with me carrying the Super Reverb the whole way. To this day, one of my arms is longer than the other one because of that.”   Ely hasn’t turned that incident into a song — yet — but he did say it inspired the title of a book he’s been working on for several years and which he expects to publish next year. It will follow his 2007 book “Bonfire of Roadmaps,” in which he weaved together journal entries, song lyrics and other documents of his life on the road.“It’s called ‘Super Reverb,’ and it’s sort of an autobiography,” he said. “I didn’t make it strictly about me.”   That’s also true of his considerable body of songs that have charted the path of a lifelong maverick and restless spirit born of the grand expanses of West Texas he grew up in, songs that artfully process real-life circumstance through a creative writer’s imagination.Although his music never clicked with a mass audience — he suffered from the “too rock for country audiences, too country for rock audiences” syndrome — he’s long been a favorite of critics and musicians of various stripes: The Clash once tapped him as an opening act, as did the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and Linda Ronstadt. He collaborated with Los Lobos members Cesar Rosas and David Hidalgo, Freddy Fender and Flaco Jimenez and others in the Mexican American all-star band Los Super Seven. The collective yielded Ely his one and only Grammy [...]

Shawna Russell released Waitin’ On Sunrise

Tue, 15 Nov 2011 16:17:00 +0000

NASHVILLE, TN (November 15, 2011) – Way Out West Records’ artist Shawna Russell has released a new single “Waitin’ On Sunrise." It is available on Play MPE and impacts U.S. radio on Nov. 28.   “Waitin’ On Sunrise” is the second U.S. release from her critically-acclaimed self-titled sophomore album and was written by Russell, father Keith Russell and uncle Tim Russell. Produced in Nashville by Julian King, Clif Doyal and Tim Russell, the song shows off Russell’s sultry vocals in a Country mid-tempo Southern-styled track that is sprinkled with blue-eyed soulful guitar licks, B-3 organ and delicate mandolin, prompting Country to call it “a retro-cool Country melody that is performed with rare musical flair.”In addition to her last Top-40 Music Row single and video, “Get Right Or Get Left,” Russell has released two singles in Europe in 2011, including “Sounds Like A Party” which landed at #3 on the Hotdisc chart and “Everybody’s Got A Story” which held down the #1 spot for two weeks in a row on the New Christian Music Charts in September. Russell, a high-profile independent artist has built a reputation as a tireless and uncompromising artist who performs over 100 dates a year with her band traveling in a vintage Silver Eagle once owned by Willie Nelson. Backed by Way Out West, a label that she co-owns, Russell has successfully promoted 6 singles from two albums charting nationally on the Music Row, Billboard “New and Active,” and Texas Music charts, and internationally on Hotdisc and the New Christian Music charts. Russell’s videos have received widespread airplay at TCN, Yallwire, and, among others. In between tour dates, Russell recently logged a 42-stop radio tour of the Midwest to promote her music and was in Nashville during “CMA Awards Week” to host two episodes of the “Breaking Out” show for The Country Network. With recent reviews and features in the CMA Close Up, Tulsa World, Maverick and Oklahoma Today, Russell not only maintains a high profile for her own busy career, but she has also branched out to work with other artists, including new Country band, LiveWire, who was just signed by Way Out West. To the casual observer, it might seem like Russell is working way too hard, but for the talented singer/songwriter known as the “Okie Songbird” it is all in a day’s work. Russell observes, "People don't realize how much work it takes to be an artist these days. I never get overwhelmed because it never really feels like a job. I am just happy to have the opportunity to live my dream - so I don't mind going above and beyond to achieve success."*Photo credit: Melinda NorrisAbout Shawna Russell:Shawna Russell released her self-titled sophomore album on Way Out West Records in June 2011. Co-produced by Julian King (Grammy-winning engineer for Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Toby Keith), along with Clif Doyal & Tim Russell, the album has won critical praise from Roughstock, Maverick, Music News Nashville, Today’s Country and the Oklahoma Gazette. Russell wrote - or co-wrote - the 10 songs on the project. She is currently promoting the second single “Waitin’ On Sunrise.” In addition to the album’s first single and video “Get Right Or Get Left,” Russell has released two singles in Europe in 2011, including “Sounds Like A Party” which climbed to #3 on the Hotdisc chart and “Everybody’s Got A Story” which held down the #1 spot for two weeks in a row on the New Christian Music Charts in September. Madison Violet Konzertbericht

Tue, 15 Nov 2011 14:49:00 +0000

„If I Could Love You“ löste „The Ransom“ als Eröffnungstitel ab, der aber umgehend folgte. Neben bereits bekannten Liedern, wie „Lauralee“ oder „Never Saw An Ending“ stellte die Gruppe zahlreiche Lieder ihrer neuen CD „The Good In Goodbye“ vor. „Come As You Are“, „Going Away“ oder das bereits erwähnte „If I Could Love You“. Siegfried Schneeweiss[...]

JAMES McMURTRY OFFERS FREE MP3 IN SUPPORT OF OCCUPY MOVEMENTThe singer-songwriter is giving away mp3s of his iconic political masterpiece "We Can’t Make It Here" (from his award-winning Childish Things).  Fans are encouraged to use the free mp3 of "We Can't Make It Here" to create videos supporting the Occupy Movement. CLICK HERE to download the free MP3.  Send your stories and videos HERE or post to the James McMurtry Facebook Page.  The best of the best will be featured on James McMurtry's website:  Message from James:We quit playing "We Can't Make It Here" for a year or two.  We're playing it again because it seems to still be relevant, and that pretty much sucks for everybody but us. I know the song is still relevant because people are camped out along Wall Street and in front of City Halls around the country and around the globe, demanding a solution to the problems I tried to give light to when I put my song out seven years ago. They are mixed in age and economic status. Some are young and idealistic. Some are old enough to have had their ideals trampled upon a time or two.  My son goes to school in the New York area and some of his friends have been involved in the protests. One was detained for nine hours without charge. This is not supposed to happen in our supposedly civilized nation. These people are getting roughed up, but the press only seems to notice when a victim of police brutality happens to be an Iraq war veteran. I'm guessing there are a good many vets in the crowd and the poor fellow in Oakland won't be the only one hurt. I suppose the cops think the protesters are breaking the law.  Seems to me, the Bill of Rights guarantees the right to peaceful assembly. Meanwhile, the one percent, safely ensconced in the tall glass towers, does not have to break the law, because they get to write the law. I thought it was supposed to be the other way around, in a democracy. I think maybe my fourth grade teacher lied to me. Let your voice be heard.   We Can’t Make It HereThere’s a Vietnam Vet with a cardboard signSitting there by the left turn lineFlag on his wheelchair flapping in the breezeOne leg missing and both hands freeNo one’s paying much mind to himThe V.A. budget’s just stretched so thinAnd now there’s more coming back from the Mideast warWe can’t make it here anymoreThat big ol’ building was the textile mill that fed our kids and it paid our billsBut they turned us out and they closed the doorsWe can’t make it here anymoreSee those pallets piled up on the loading dockThey’re just gonna sit there ’til they rot’Cause there’s nothing to ship, nothing to packJust busted concrete and rusted tracksEmpty storefronts around the squareThere’s a needle in the gutter and glass everywhereYou don’t come down here unless you’re looking to scoreWe can’t make it here anymore The bar’s still open but man it’s slowThe tip jar’s light and the register’s lowThe bartender don’t have much to sayThe regular crowd gets thinner each daySome have maxed out all their credit cardsSome are working two jobs and living in carsMinimum wage won’t pay for a roof, won’t pay for a drinkIf you gotta have proof just try it yourself Mr. CEOSee how far $5.15 an hour will goTake a part time job at one your stor[...]
