I usually knit for myself or for friends/family, but I think that EUR 50 is about reasonable. It's around the price that most people would pay for handknit socks (covering the yarn and some labor of course). I've heard from people who used to knit for money and they've charged around $300-$500 on a sweater depending on the yarn and the difficulty of the pattern. Since you're really good at socks and can knit them up fairly quick, I'd charge a bit more, especially if you're going to use nice yarn.

hmmm - I only knit for close friends and family, so it's hard to put a price on knitting, but it sounds like you are right in the ballpark on the price for the socks...

look at that new Scout's yarn - the colors are just amazing! Hopefully it cheered you up for a little while!

I've been paid $50 for handknit socks, not including the yarn. (The yarn was provided by the recipient.) I don't do it much, though, because with my stash I need to be knitting for myself!

ahh knitting for pennies...WELL I think knitters totally sell themselves short, you will put in a lot of hours into it and if you enjoy it or not shouldnt be counted ;)

I would ask at least £40 for handknit simple socks...at least that, if somebody really wants the prduct thy will b willing to pay and also shows they appreciate the hours you put in.

Is it Christmas yet? So many gorgeous things. Lucky you! I think besides friends, you'll not find a lot of people in Europe who will pay 50 Euro for a pair of socks, but I'll be glad if you can proof me wrong. I wish you good luck in finding customers, adn earn lots (or enough) money with what you love to do.

LG
Tanja

o.k. let's put it this way:
I asked at a German sewing (and a bit of knitting board) if they would be willing to pay 9 Euro for 100g of handdyed yarn and except for Madhatter, no one was.

From what I have heard, the people here selling handknit socks are charging the yarn and the same amount for the knitting itself, so that it will be around 12-15 Euro for a pair.

How are the chances to get a "real" parttime job in Munich? From what I have heard the unemploymentrate is a lot better than here. Have you thought of asking your LYS if they need somebody to fill in a couple of hours or on saturday?

Or you could offer stores to take pics of their yarn :)

Lovely socks, already, I thought I was not a fan of the Opal Hundertwasser but I'm getting second thoughts now :-D

Interesting question about how much to charge for your knitting. Socks? I just checked Etsy (not too many adult-sized handknit socks out there) and the prices range from $10 to $35. That's on the cheap side, isn't it? I think it really depends how much someone is willing to pay for it; I'd say 50 euros is a bit on the expensive side but I'd be willing to pay 30 or 40 euro for beautiful and well-made socks. If your recipient happily pays 50 euros and spreads the word, good for you and go for it!!

The tragic thing is, it's absolutely impossible to charge a realistic price for all the hours you put into knitting by hand. My BF works in the web design sector where 100 euros *per hour* is usual. DUH. If handknitting would make only a third of that amount, many of us (including myself) would already be running thriving businesses of handknit items, I'm sure. Not going to happen though :-((

Yuck... financial problems as a student suck. I can imagine it's very hard to juggle things without being overwhelmed. Hope you'll find a solution, sending you many positive vibes!

Great stash enhancement!
I love the moo sticker! OMG I didn't even know about them. Gosh soooo awesome. I need to take more pics so I can have nifty stickers. :)
Socks for your friend look really cool. :)

My husband's coworkers keep bugging me to knit them socks. My price that I just throw together was 60 US dollars. I would want to say 70 but we live in a small mill town.
