Summer Vegetable Salad


          I was looking for a salad which will be colorful, tasty , nutritious etc.. So as if to prove that whatever we wish for will happen , my friend Rama told me a recipe which I was looking for... This salad is the most delicious one I ever had in a long time. It is very appealing to our senses... colorful to our eyes.. very appetising...those who are very nutrition and diet concious can definetly try this.... Others also can try this for they can have a very different and satisfying lunch with this salad.             IngredientsSoaked and Boiled Groundnut1/2 Cup                 Sprouted Green Gram1 CupOnion finely chopped1Tomato finely chopped2Cucumber finely chopped1Capsicum red,yellow,greencombined 1/2 or 1 cupCarrot chopped2Green Chilly finely chopped(optional)1lemon juice1/2 lemon squeezed SaltAs per requirement                  Wash and soak green gram for atleast 7 hours and then drain the water.        You can leave it as it is after draining the water as moong beans will start sprouting.just close it with a lid. otherwise after draining the water,put the soaked green gram in a cloth and tie it. leave it for overnight. fresh sprouted green gram is ready.          Soak the groundnuts overnight. then boil it and keep aside. now finely chop the vegetables given in the table above. In a big bowl add the sprouts,boiled groundnuts,vegetables,salt,lemon juice and toss. Serve immediately and enjoy the delicious salad!!!!![...]

Carrot Juice


Carrot juice
          Every one would have heard about carrot halwa which will be delicious!! Have you prepared carrot juice with cardomom? Carrot juice with just a hint of cardomom flavor will be delicious and you will yearn for it more!

Carrots - 5 to 6 medium sized
Sugar - as per requirement
Cardomom powder - 1/2 tsp ( increase if the carrots are more)

        Peel the carrots and cut into length wise or as per your wish. I had a juice so I cut it length wise. put it in the juicer and extract the juice. mix sugar and cardomon powder. stir it well and serve chilled. If you want it diluted add little water.  If you are not using Juicer ,blend it in the mixie and strain.

Cucumber Mint Juice


I wanted to try some thing different in Cucumber other than raitha. I came across this recipe from Yummy Tummy. It tasted really nice. It was very refreshing to drink the juice. 


1.Cucumber - peeled and cut into cubes - 2  cups.
2.Mint leaves - 10 to 12. 
3.Juice of 1 lemon.
4.Salt to taste.
5.Sugar to taste.
6.Jeera powder Optional.
7.Water as per requirement.


  Put all the ingredients in the juicer. Pour water and grind it. Strain it. Add ice cubes and serve chilled.

Spicy Carrot Bath


          What's to prepare for lunch? This is the question which will pester our mind often..So as usual I browsed the net and got an interesting but simple recipe from Sailu's Kitchen !

 1.Basmati rice - 250 gms of rice cooked
 2.Carrot 5 medium size - grated
 3.Green chilles , 4 garlic , 1.5 inch ginger paste
 4.Cloves - 2
 5.Cinnamon - 1inch
 6.Elaichi - 2
 7.Bay leaf -1
 8.Coriander powder - 1 tsp
 9.Coriander leaves
10. Kasoori methi - 3/4 tsp
12.Salt as per requirement
12.Ghee or oil as per requirement.
13.Cashews - 6-7

Carrot Rice


        Cook Basmathi rice and cool it. let it be fluffy and seperate. Heat oil or ghee in a pan. temper the oil with cinnamon,bay leaf,cloves,elaichi,cashews. Add onion and saute it. Then add green chillies,ginger ,garlic paste .Add coriander leaves and kasoori methi leaves. Add grated carrot and saute it. after some time add coriander powder. Add salt. Then slowly add cooked rice with the mix. after 2 to 3 minutes remove the pan from flame. Serve hot with raitha.

Palak Soup


           One day we had this palak soup prepared by our friend Maithreyi which was absolutely delicious . I was wondering... will I be able to make this soup as delicious as her. So I got this recipe from her.  I would say it came out well. In summer its very difficult to cook a full fledged meals. so besides fruit juices,we can have soups and fruits for lunch which will be fulfilling.


1.Palak 2 bunches
2.Onion 2 chopped
3.tomatoes 3 chopped
4.garlic pods 6-7 chillies-2
6.salt as per the requirement
7.pepper as per the requirement
8. spring onions - 1 bunch.
9.coriander  a few sprigs.
10. oil 1 tbsp

     Heat oil in a pan and add chopped onion. saute it for few minutes. then add garlic,green chillies ,tomatoes and palak. let it get sauteed for 10 minutes. let it cool and grind it to a paste add water if the paste is thick. If you want you can strain using a steel strainer. I didn't strain it. then chop the spring onion finely. Again add oil  in a pan and add spring onion's white part and saute it. After the onion got sauteed,add the ground palak and stir. you should add water to the palak to get the soup consistency.Add salt. let it get boiled after some time put the chopped spring onion and coriander sprigs. 

Paneer Kurma


              Ramya and I were discussing about side dishes for chappathis . Suddenly I had this recipe in my mind which I saw in Sharmis Passion . It was a very easy to make recipe and came out very well. Paneer Kurma can be used for Chappathis, Pooris, Idiyappams, Appams etc. I just added a bit more Onions and tomatoes varying from the original recipe.

1. Paneer - cubed 1 cup
2.Onion - 2 finely chopped
3.Tomatoes -2 finely chopped
4.Chilli powder - 3/4 tsp
5.Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
6.Garam masala - 1 tsp
7.cinnamon - 1 stick
8.cloves - 3
10. fresh cream - 2 tsp

For the paste
1.Freshly ground ginger garlic paste - 1.5 tsp
2.Cashews 8-10
3.fennel seeds - 3/4 tsp
4.grated coconut -1/2 cup chillies - 2
6.poppy seeds - 3/4 tsp

Preparation Method
               Grind the ingredients given under the paste category. Heat oil in a pan and put cinnamon,cloves,elaichi. saute with onion and after the onions becomes sauted add tomotoes. let the tomatoes get cooked. then add the ground paste and 1 cup of water. add turmeric powder and chilli powder and let it boil for few minutes or till the oil comes out. Then add garam masala and fresh cream. garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with phulkas.

Paruppu Adai

This is one dish we all in our family enjoy eating. we will sit around the table to break the dosas into chunks while chatting. one will prepare the dosas and others will make chunks from these dosas. My grand mom will tell the stories about her mom preparing this dish. It will be fun watching her.

Now whenever I prepare this dish those memories will bring a smile to my face.I posted this recipe long back and again reposting  and submitting this recipe for Gayathri's Walk Through Memory Lane

1.Boiled rice – 2 cups soaked
2.Tur dhall – ¾ cup
3.Mustard Seeds 1 tsp
4.Urid dhall – 1 tsp
5.Red Chillies – 6 -7
6.Garlic - 15 to 20 pods
7.Salt as per requirement
8.Turmeric powder ½ tsp
9.Oil 2 tbsp
10.Curry leaves


Soak boiled rice and grind it into batter . while grinding add salt. Prepare dosas from this batter and keep it aside. Let the dosas get cooled and break all the dosas into small chunks. Keep it aside.
While preparing dosas cook tur dhall with turmeric powder. Heat a big pan or wok and add oil . Put mustard seeds, urid dhall, red chillies, garlic and curry leaves . Let all the ingredients turn golden brown then add the cooked tur dhall .
Add salt and let it boil for sometimes then add the dosa chunks into the dhall and mix well. Blend all the dosa chunks into the dhall well. Let it get heated for few more minutes. Serve hot.

Aval Upma


Hungry! want to prepare something quickly to eat ! try aval upma.. it is so easy to make. my MIL taught me this. I knew we can make aval payasam but not upma.. I am reposting this for  Shama's Fast food event series- Aval


Thick aval 4 cups
Onion- 2 sliced
Curry leaves
Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
Mustard seeds, Urad dhall for tempering

Soak aval in water for 15 minutes. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. after it splutters add urad dhall let it get brown in color then add onion and curry leaves.saute it. Put turmeric powder and salt.
Strain the soaked aval. It should not contain any water. Then add it to the sauted onion.

Aval upma is ready to eat!

Dosas made more crisper


     To make dosas into much crisper , just even  the surface of the dosai batter after ladling into the tawa with the dosai  karandi . This will make the dosai  like hotel dosai. 

Onion Masala Bun


          I was looking for cakes , buns recipes anything to bake ever since I got an OTG about two months ago. Sangeetha's Spicy Treats's Onion Masala Bun  looked very tempting to me. Its really simple and easy to make. My sister and I enjoyed making these. Ingredients      1.      Whole Wheat Flour 2 cups      2.      All Purpose Flour/APF 3 cups3.      Rapid Rise Yeast 1 tbsp4.      Salt      1/2 tsp5.      Baking powder       1/2 tsp6.      Sugar            2 tbsp7.      Milk       1 and 1/4 cup(Luke warm milk)8.      Oil      2 and 1/2 tbsp9.      Onion      1 medium (finely chopped)10.  Green chili    1 no.(finely chopped -optional)11.  Garlic      3 cloves(finely chopped)12.  Cumin seeds     2 tsp13.  Oregano – for garnishingAdd sugar, milk and yeast in a bowl and keep it aside till it turns frothy.Mean while add flour, salt , baking powder  together. After the yeast mix is ready add oil to it and then add it to the flour. Then add finely chopped onion, cumin seeds, chillies, chopped garlic and mix the flour.  The dough will be sticky. Apply oil to your hands and knead the flour for 3 to 4 minutes.Now place the dough in a greased bowl  and apply oil on top of the dough. Cover it with a damp  cloth or cling wrap for an hour. The size of the dough will be double by now.In the mean time grease the baking tray and keep aside. After one hour punch the dough and again knead it for a minute. Divide the dough and place it in the tray. Again cover it with a cling wrap for 20 minutes.Allow the buns to raise. Once done brush the buns with milk.Sprinkle some oregano for garnishing.Preheat the oven to 200 degree celcius. And bake it for  15 to 20 minutes.The steps of this recipe is followed as per sangeetha's recipe. I just changed the garnishing.I am submitting this to the Bake Fest #14 event [...]

Tawa Paneer Masala


               Its been a very long time since I posted in my blog.... time flies........ I promised myself from now on wards I will regularly post recipes... my interest was rekindled by some fantastic looking blogs and their recipes....they amaze me by their diligent and enthusiastic work . Its really great to see so many blogs which are very much a visual treat and useful. I have bookmarked nearly hundred recipes which are yet to be prepared .Hats off to all the food bloggers in the world!               Now coming to this post , the recipe I made is paneer tawa masala which i got from  Tickling Palates . This recipe was very easy to make. I just increased some quantity of the ingredients  for more quantity of the dish.Paneer Tawa MasalaIngredientsPaneer – 400 gmsOnion- 3 –medium sizeTomato – 4 to 5  pureedGinger garlic paste – 2 tbspGreen chillies – 1 or 2 Garam masala – 1 tspChaat masala – 1 tspRed chilli powder – 2 tspCoriander powder-  3 to 4 tspTurmeric powder – ½ tspCumin seeds – ¾ tspCaraway  seeds- ¾ tspKasoori methi – 1 tbspSalt to tasteOil – 3 tbspNote: Ingredients like chilli powder , garam masala can be changed according to your taste.Method:       Marinade paneer with chaat masala, ¾ tsp red chilli powder , ¾ tsp of ginger garlic paste,a pinch of salt and kasoori methi and oil. Keep it aside for an hour.Keep the paneer in a silver foil and grill it in grill mode in the oven  for 10 to 15 minutes or till done. Or you can shallow fry also.       Chop the onions finely. Heat the kadai and pour oil. Temper with cumin and caraway seeds. Then add onions and sauté it well. Add ginger garlic paste, remaining red chilli powder , coriander powder ,chopped green chillies and again sauté it till the raw smell goes. After the the mixture becomes dry add tomato puree . mix well. Let the mixture get cooked till the oil is separated. Then add garam masala , cream , salt and let it cook for some more minutes. If the gravy is thick you can add milk which will give you a gravy consistency. Then add the grilled paneer and let it get coated in the gravy. Serve hot with  phulkas , naan , Rotis etc.... [...]

Add Pepper To Adai Batter


Add one and a half tsp peppercorns while grinding adai batter to have a different taste.

Soy Pepper Masala


I have always wanted to do something spicy with soya chunks and my sister gave me this idea which aptly suited for phulkas, dosas etc. if you eat the chunks the spicy juice is what you will taste and not the bland soya flavor. Give it a try!



1. Small soya chunks - 2 cups
2. Onion -2
3. Tomatoes -3
4. Ginger garlic paste 2 tsp
5. Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
6. Chilli powder - 2 tsp
7. Coriander powder - 1 tsp
8. Cumin seeds - 1.5 tsp
9. Pepper- 1.5 tsp
10.Oil for sauteeing
11.Cinnamon stick-1,fennel seeds -1/2 tsp
12.Curry leaves .
13.Salt as per requirement.

Soak soy chunks in the hot water for 15 minutes.squeeze out the water from soy chunks and again wash it in normal water . squeeze out the water from soy chunks keep it aside. soak cumin seeds and pepper and grind it together.

Heat a oil in a kadai and put cinnamon ,fennel seeds. saute onion for 5 minutes. add ginger garlic paste.Add tomatoes after few minutes. Add salt and then chilli powder,coriander powder and turmeric powder.

After the raw smell goes add some water. Few minutes later add the soy chunks and let it boil for some time.Now add the ground cumin and pepper paste. Let it get boiled for few minutes and garnish it with curry leaves.

Serve hot with phulkas, dosas etc.

Add pudina leaves while sauteeing onion for sambar for different flavor!



Carrot Paneer Sandwich
This sandwich is well received for breakfast time at our home.
I submit this sandwich for Srivalli's " Sandwich Mela".



For the stuffing:

1. Carrot 2 grated
2. Green chillies - 2 finely chopped
3. Onion -1 finely chopped
3. Paneer - crumbled
4. salt as per requirement
5. Oil for sauteeing
6. Bread slices.

Heat oil in a wok and add onion. saute it for few minutes.Add green chillies and carrot .Let it get cooked for few minutes. Add salt. After few minutes add crumbled paneer.Stuffing is ready.


1. Pudina leaves 1 bunch
2. Green chilly -1
3. Salt - a pinch

Grind the above ingredients into a paste.Add water if the paste is too thick.


Butter one side of the bread and apply chutney to another side of the bread. Do like this for the rest of the bread slices.keep the stuffing between the chutney sided bread slices.
Toast the bread in the Toaster and serve hot with Tomato Sauce.

Ginger Capsicum Dosai



Tired of ordinary masala dosai? Try this Ginger Capsicum peas masala dosai.Its Sangeetha's Restaurant Special. Sambar or coconut chutney is a good


Dosa batter for dosas

For the masala,

Mustard seeds,urad dhal, curry leaves
1.Capsicum big size-2
2.peas - 1/2 cup
2.Onion Medium size -3
3.Tomato -4
4.Ginger 2 inches Crushed
5.Chilli powder - 2 tsp
5.turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
6.salt as per requirement
7.oil for sauteeing

Preparation of masala

Heat oil in a pan. add mustard seeds,urad dhall. after the mustard seeds split add onions and saute it. add ginger and tomato after 2 minutes. let tomatoes get cooked.Add peas and let it get cooked for few minutes. Then add chilli powder, salt, turmeric powder. add capsicum aarfter the raw smell of chilli powder goes. let the capsicum get cooked.

prepare dosai in the tawa .After both sides are cooked put the masala in the center of the dosai and fold it.
Serve with chutney or sambar.

Add ginger to rasam!


Add 1/2 inch of crushed ginger while preparing rasam.It will taste different.This is my friend gayathri's tip!

Add Idli batter to have a soft dosas or bhajjis!


If you add one or two ladle full of idli batter to bhajji mix or rava dosa ,or
cornmeal dosas, you will get soft bhajjis,dosas.

Brocolli Paneer Fry


This recipe was given to me by my friend Shruthi who is an Aerobics Instructor. She saw it on T.V . Its really very simple to prepare. This recipe goes under 2-in-1 for Brocolli.



1.Brocolli 2 florets
2.paneer 200 gms grated
3.cumin seeds 2 tsp
4.pepper 2 tsp
5.garlic pods 8-10
6.salt to taste
7.Olive oil or any refined oil for sauteeing.

Grind pepper,garlic,cumin seeds together. Heat oil in a wok and put the ground things in the oil. Then put brocolli florets into the wok and stir fry. Add salt.Let the florets get cooked. After some time put the grated paneer and stir. let the water from paneer get evaporated. fry till paneer and brocolli is roasted enough.Have it as a evening snack.

Broccoli Soup


I saw this recipe in Life Mojo website. It was so simple and delicious. I have tweaked a little bit.. I used coriander leaves instead of celery. that's it. I have another recipe using the "broccoli",so I am going t put this in 2 in 1 category. Do try this.


1. 1 cup broccoli, cut into small florets
2. 1/2 cup onion, thinly sliced
3. large clove garlic (lahsun), chopped
4. 1/2 cup carrots, thinly sliced
5. 2 tbsp chopped celery (ajmud)
6. 1 tbsp alphabet pasta or stellini (or any small pasta)
7. 1 tbsp butter
8. salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
1.Heat the oil in a pan, add the onion, garlic, carrots and celery and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes.
2.Add the broccoli, pasta, salt and 2.5 cups of hot water and simmer till the pasta has cooked (approx. 5 to 7 minutes).
3.Add pepper and mix well. You can just grind it to have a smooth consistency.
4.Serve hot.

To make papaya even more tastier..


To make papaya fruit even more tastier just sprinkle a pinch of pepper powder and toss. It will be delicious.

Vegetable Uthappam


I knew about onion uthappam, but this veg uthappam takes the crown.It is very colour full and tasty. Do try it!


1.Onion finely chopped-2
2.Carrots grated -2
3.Beans finely chopped -200 gms chillies finely chopped -4
5.curry leaves

Heat oil in a wok and sauté onion. Then put green chillies, beans, carrot, curry leaves and let it cook for 10 more minutes. Then put these in the dosa batter. Heat dosa tawa and pour the a ladle full of batter. Pour oil lightly on the sides of the dosa. Close the dosa with a lid for a minute or two. Then flip the dosa . keep it in flame till the other side is cooked. Serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar.

To make potato fry more tastier...


Grind pepper,jeera,garlic together and add it to the potato fry. This will taste different.
