Goli Baje


Maida  - 2 Cups
Curd                        - 1/2 cup
Green chilly            -  2-3[as per your taste]
  Hing                      - a pinch
Curry leaves           -  5 to 6
Cooking Soda         -  a pinch
Sugar                      - 1 Table spoon
Salt                         -  as required
Oil                          -  for deep frying (1 Cup)

1. Add maida, sugar and salt in a big bowl. 
2. Add curd and mix it nicely (let it be thick)and then keep aside to rest   for 10 minutes. 
3. Wash Green chilly and curry leaves and chop it finely and set aside.
4.  Add green chilly, hing and curry leaves and mix it well. 
5. Pre heat the oil for deep frying. (on medium flame). 
6. Just before frying add a pinch of cooking soda and mix it well. 
7. Take a handful of batter and leave it in oil so as to form  small balls shape. 
8.  Fry on both sides till they turn golden color .
9. Remove and place  it on a kitchen towel/tissue to remove extra oil. 
10.Repeat the same with the rest of the batter. 
11. Serve Hot Goli baje with ketch up or any kind of  coconut chutney you prepared.



Eggless choclate cake - using Microwave


This is simple yet a tasty fluffy choco- cake recipe for those busy mom's out there. Simple less ingredients are used and it just takes around 5 mins to prepare. So without any delay here are the ingredients used.

Maida - 1.5 cups
Sugar  - 1 cup

 Milk   - 1 cup+ 1tbsp

Cocoa powder - 3tbsp
Baking powder - 1/2 tsp
Baking soda     - 1/4 tsp
Salt                   - 1 pinch
Oil                    - 3 tsp ( optional)
Lemon juice     - 1 tsp
Instant coffee powder- 1 tsp
Water               - 2 tbsp

1. Sieve all the dry ingredients and keep aside.
2. Squeeze fresh lemon juice and keep ready.Prepare a microwave dish by placing a wax paper at the bottom and grease the dish with butter or oil and keep ready.
3.Now in a large bowl add sugar and milk and beat until all of the sugar is dissolved completely.
4. Now add the dry ingredients little by little and blend it to gather by using a beater.
5.Now add the oil and mix properly . The mixture will be silky and smooth. Now add water and lemon juice and mix it quickly and immediately transfer the mixture to the baking dish and place in the microwave.
6. Cook for about 3-5 min depending on the power of your microwave.
7. Check by poking the bamboo tooth prick at the center .If it comes out clear .its ready.
8. Remove and allow it to cool for 5-10 mins .
9.Its ready to be relished.

Mullu southe salli / cucumber salad


This is a very refreshing,cooling recipe . Its good in summer .The nice crunchy salad refreshes the warm days in summer.Its a good dish for one who is on diet. Cucumbers are very good source of vitamin- B.they contain 80% of water in them. This is a easy no cooking required recipe.

cucumber        - 1 large
onion              -   1 medium sized
green chillies   - 1-2  [optional]
coriander leaves- 1 tsp

1. Wash the cucumber . Then cut them into quarters and slice thinly.
2. Peal the onions and thinly slice them length wise and keep aside.
3. Chop the chillies and fresh coriander leaves. You can even replace the coriander leaves with fresh mint leaves or dill leaves too.
4. Now take cucumber ,onion,chillies and fresh coriander leaves in a bowl add enough salt to suit your taste and mix them all and enjoy it with rice as sides.

Til ki ladoo


Black sesame seeds    - 1/2 cup
Jagarry / gud              -   1/2 cup
Cashew nuts               -   3-4 broken into pieces
Dried grapes               -   6-8
Cardamom  powder    -  1/4 tsp
Ghee                           -  1.5 tsp

1. Dry roast sesame seeds in a pan for about a minute or until it starts to splutter. Keep the heat in medium and take care not to burn them.    
2. Now scrape the jagarry and keep ready.
3. Take a blender and add cardamom powder/seeds, jagarry, and the roasted sesame seeds and pulse for 3-4 times until it forms a uniform mixture and blends properly.
4. Take the ghee in a small pan and add cashews and dried grapes into it and roast it till the cashews turn slightly golden add this to the blended mixture.
5. Take the mixture in a clean bowl and take small portions of the mixture and press and form small ladoos. 
6.If you find it difficult to form small balls out of it then add little ghee. You can even warm this mixture slightly for few seconds in microwave so it becomes easy.

Hot and sour idles


Hot and sour idles

18-20 - left over idles
3-4     -  green chillies finely chopped
3-4     - cloves of garlic
1 tsp   - minced ginger
1tbsp  - chopped coriander leaves
1 medium- onion diced
2 tsp - tomato sauce
1 tsp - green chilly sauce
1 tsp-  soya sauce
1.5 tsp- sugar
1/2 tsp- chilly flakes
2tsp  -  oil

1/4  - cup water
salt  - as per taste

1. Chop up the idyll's to about 1 inch size and keep aside.
2.In a non-stick pan take 2 tsp of oil,just when it becomes hot add garlic,ginger and chilly flakes and mix them. Then add chopped green chillies,onion and saute for 2-3 mins.
3. Then add tomato sauce,soy sauce,green chilly sauce ,salt and sugar and mix properly.
4. Now add water and make it into a medium paste.
5. To the above mixture add the cut idly and mix properly so that all the idly pieces are coated properly.
6. Cut off the heat and garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

It tastes almost like idli munchurian but without the guilt of deep fried one.

Stuffed bread rolls


7-8 bread slices[remove the edges]
(image) 2-3 large- boiled mashed  potatoes
1 tbsp   -  chopped fresh mint leaves
1/2 cup - frozen thawed peas
1 large  - onion chopped
1/2 tsp -  ginger garlic paste
1 tsp    -  garam masala
1/4 tsp - turmeric powder
1/4 tsp - chilly powder
salt       -  as per taste
1/2 tsp  - cumin seeds[jeera]
1/4 tsp  - chat powder
1-2 tsp  - oil/butter/ghee for toasting

1.In a deep nonstick pan
 take 1tsp oil ,add cumin and afetr a min add chopped onions,ginger garlic paste and saute for 1-2 mins . Then add peas and add turmeric powder,chilly powder, garam masala powder and mix properly.
2. In a bowl take the boiled mashed potato and then add the above mixture add  chat powder and salt and mix properly. Now add chopped mint leaves and keep aside.
3.. Wet both hands and then tap the bread so as to make it slightly moist. Put the potato mixture about a spoon full in the centre and then slowly roll with wet hands and seal the edges properly.
4. Take a non stick pan. To it add a little bit of oil or ghee and slowly roast the bread roll on all sides so that it crunches out. Do remember to keep the flame in medium.
5. Enjoy hot with desired chutney or simple ketchup.

Vegetarian Hot dog with vegetarian sausages


Ingredients:------------potatoes                                   - 2  medium sized                    Carrots                                    - 1 largeBeetroot                                 -  1 medium sizehotdog buns                            -  4-5Day old bread / only crust       -  heaped 1 cup [ 4-5 sclices]Bell peppers                          - 1 smallOnions                                  -  1/2 cup choppedGarlic                                    - 3-4 clovesred chilles                            - 2-3Garam masala                        -   1tspChilly powder                         -    1 tspTurmeric                                -    1/2 tspSalt                                       - as per tasteJeera                                     -  1 tspCoriander seeds                     -  1tspSoya flour                              -  1/2 cupWheat flour                           -  1 cupsOil                                         -  2tbspMethod:-----------1. Wash and peal potatoes,carrots and beets . Slice then to thin stripes and steam cook ,keep aside for cooling.2. In a pan  take about a tsp of oil,then when it becomes hot add jeera . When the jeera starts to splutter add onions ,ginger, garlic,coriander seeds keep mixing  for about 2 mins till the raw smell goes off.3. Now  using a blender or food processor   blend the vegetables, with the small chunks of bread and the above onion mixture to a chunky paste. 4. To the above paste add the 2 flours , enough salt, dry masala and make a soft dough without adding water.5. Grease  the vessel in which you want to steam these dougs properly. Take a big lime sized ball of the dough and shape them in sausage shapes and place slowly in the greases vessel and steam cook till will take about 8-10 minutes to get cooked properly. It will change in color and when you stick in a knife it should come out clear.6. Allow it to cool and then in a non stick pan add a few drops of oil and saute these sausage about 3 at a time till the outer surface becomes a bit charred and crusty.7. Take a hot dog  bun and smear with butter totally optional . Then place the sausage . It can be topped with onions and bell peppers or picked cucumbers or just tomato sauce and mustard and enjoyed when its hot.....8.You can make this sausage ahead of time and freeze it. It can also be used in many more dishes or yummy recipes like fried ri[...]

Savory fingers


Ingredients:----------------Rice flour              - 1 cupGram flour             - 1 /2 cupWheat flour            - 1/4 cupSesame seed s     -   1.5 tbspSalt                       - as per tasteCumin seeds         - 1 tbspGreen chillies         - 2  / as per tasteOnion                   - 1 medium finely choppedCurry leaves         - 12 large finely choppedTurmeric powder  - 1/2 tspRed chilly powder  - 1/2 tspHing                      - 1/4 tspwater                     -  to form a soft doughOil                         - for fryingMethod:----------1. Take a large bowl . Add all the dry ingredients .to this add chilly powder,turmeric,jeera,hing,i salt and mix properly with the hands.2. Now finely chop onion green chillies and curry leaves and add it to the above dry ingredients.3 . Now to the mixture add water little by little and form a firm non sticky dough  .4. Make small balls and roll it into stick form by rolling in between your greased palm.5. In a plate sprinkle some sesame seeds and roll over it the finger shaped sticks what we have prepared.Then once again roll between your palms to secure the seeds into the dough. continue this process with the remaining dough and keep ready.6. Now heat the oil for frying. slowly fry 10-12 finger sticks at a time till they turn golden in color.7. Remove the fried stick to a tray lined with paper napkin. This will absorb the excess oil.8. Once cooled store in an air tight  container. Enjoy with a hot cup of tea or coffee on a rainy day.....[...]

palak aloo ke laccha paranta


This is a kid friendly meal and a healthy delicious complete meal in itself. I often try to  make something which looks good full of nutrients in it. My lil one has become a picky eater.These lil ones have no time to sit in a place and have food too. This will be a good idea for the lunch box too. Spinach is rich source of vitamin and iron. Its full of fibers . Potato is believed to be rich in iron and other minerals too.Its best among the root vegetables.Ingredients:--------------Whole wheat flour  - 2.5 cupsSpinach                  - 1/2 bunchPotato                     - 2 largeSalt                         -   as per tasteJeera                      -  2 tspWater [warm]Ghee  / butterOptional:-[adults version]----------Green chilles          -  2Coriander powder  - 1/2 tspJeera powder           - 1/2 tspDill seeds                 -  1/4 tspMethod:----------1. Wash the potatoes and then peal them . Chop them into small cubes add a little water and cook in the microwave until tender.2. Mash then properly and keep aside.3. Wash the spinach leaves properly and with the stems chop them small and grind them to a fine paste.4. Now add the mashed potatoes, spinach paste ,salt and jeera with salt as per taste to a large bowl.5. Add atta [ wheat flour] and mix properly adding water little by little.6. Kneed the dough to form a soft unsticky mass . Then keep aside covered with lid for about 10 mins.7. Now make small round lemon size balls out of the dough .8. Roll it a thin chapathi and then fold it like pleating a sari.9. Roll inwards to form a coir as shown below. IT looks like a flower. Now press it down to form a flat layered patty10. Now roll it just like a simple chapathi.11. Heat the pan in medium heat. grease the pan ,then place the paranta. cook on both sides by greasing it with ghee ,butter or olive oil.12. Papaya Halwa


Papaya is a fruit which is rich in Vit-A. Its a good source of fiber and is really good for your eyes and even intestine. Its believed to reduce digestive problem and even increase the appitite. It helps in weight reduction. All in totally is a very healthy yet a yummy option. Papaya is a fruit which is edible even when its raw. Ingredients:-----------Semi- ripe papaya- 2-2.5 cups[ app 1large papaya] Sugar - 1.5 cupsSaffron - 2 pinchesCardamom - 2-3 pods[freshly powdered]Ghee - 1 tbsp Water - 2 tbspMethod:---------1. Grate the papaya and keep aside. I have used semi ripe papaya.2. In a non-stick pan add the sugar and water and put on the heat. Just wait until the sugar melts.3. Now add the grated papaya and mix properly.4. Keep stirring until most of the liquid content evaporates and all the content form a single mass and leaves the bottom from the edges.5. Add the saffron in about a tbsp of warm water and stir and keep aside for about 2 mins.6. Now add the saffron with the water to the halwa mixture and stir properly.7. Add the ghee to the mixture.8. Now add freshly powdered cardamom to the mixture and stir and put off the heat. Enjoy hot or at room temperature.[...]

Kesar badammilk drink/safron almound drink mix



Almond is a nut which is very beneficial for growing kids.It helps in brain development in both young kids and adults.It is a nut which is a rich source of fibers . We people in India try to use this nuts in many sweet dishes ,drink powder or even add it to the cereal powder used in small infants.Its believed that if a pregnant womem consumes these almonds through out her pregnancy right from 4th month to 9th month then her child will be born very healthy and will be very intelligent. Her baby will also have thick hair all over the scalp and the baby will be of fair complextion.This has proven to be a healthy drink for nursing moms and even tired adults.


Raw Almonds - 2 cups
sugar - 1 cup[as desired]
kesar - 1/2 tsp
cardamom - 1/4 tsp

Method :-
1.Take almonds, sugar, saffron ,cardamom in a blender and make a dry fine powder .
2.Store it in an air tight box.This will last for months together.


To prepare badam milk:-
Add about a spoon full of the above powder,add very hot milk and pour it to another cup and keep mixing by pouring it to the same cup back and forth. Enjoy......

Gulli Appam[urad daal savory appam]



ural daal - 1 cup
idli rava - 2 cups
yeast - 1 tsp
onion - 1 medium size
grated carrots - 1 large
coriander leaves- 2 tbsp
green chillies - 2-3 [optional]
salt - as per taste
bell peppers - 3 tbsp

1.Soak up the urad daal over night or in hot water for 2-3 hrs.

2. Grind the urad daal to form a fine smooth batter.Add idli rava to the batter and keep adding water little by little so as to form a batterlike idle batter.

3. Then add the yeast[mix yeast with luke warm water and keep aside for 2-3 mins once it becomes pasty its ready to be added to the batter].


4.Chop up the vegetables very fine,grate the carrots and keep ready.

5.Salt the batter as per taste . Add all the veggies to the batter.

6.Now take the appam tava and grease it with a tiny drop of oil in all the chambers.


7.Fill all the chambers up to 3/4 full with the batter. Cover and cook for 1 min in medium flame.

8.Now slowly release the edges and flip it up side down. Do not cover ,cook for another min or until done.

9 Serve warm or room temperature with desired chutney or can be had as it is.


Vada pav -for weight watches and healthy eaters/healthier version


I have always dreampt of tasting the vada pav in its original form at the place where it actually originated, thats amchi Mumbai..... Well not yet i have got a chance of visiting Mumbai and having this poor man's burger as its described. Well have tasted it many places in south and here in California too.So thought of sharing my version of vada pav with you here. Here i am showing less fat ,guilt free method. I promise there is no compromise in taste as well as health.Ingredients:--------------For the stuffing-------------------potatoes - 4 large [boiled]onion - 1/2 cuppeas - 1/2 cupsalt - as per tastecumin - 1 tsphing - 2 pincheschat powder - 1/2 tspchilly powder- 1/2 tspcoriander powder-1/2 tspcoriander leaves- 1 tbspFor coating of vada---------------------besan powder - 1/2 cuphing - 2 pincheschilly powder - 1/2 tspsalt - 1/2 tspwater oil -1.5 tbspgarlic chutney ingredients:------------------------------garlic - 9-10 clovescoconut - 2 tspdry red chillies- 4-5tamarind - size of rasberryor 1/4 tspwater - 2tspsalt - as per tastepav/ bread:------------I have used hamburger bun- 4-5Method:--------1.In a big bowl add the cooked , pealed large potatoes and break it up into small chunks. 2. Microwave the frozen peas for 2 mins.3. In a nonstick pan add 1 tsp of oil ,wait for 1 min .Then add cumin seeds now add onions and saute till it turns slightly brown.4.Now add peas and saute for 1 min.Then add potatoes. add coriander powder,chilly powder , chat powder and salt.Mix properly.Add coriander leaves and keep aside for cooling.5. Now mix besan powder and all the other dry ingredients in a bowl and slowly add water little by little until it forms a thick batter just like idly batter.6. Now prepare small balls out of the potato mixture appoximatly the size of golf balls and keep ready.7.Heat up the appam tawa and little bit as 1/4 tsp of oil to all the chambers and slightly lower the heat and keep ready.8.Now slowly dip the balls in batter so as to form a uniform coating all around it and place them slowly in the appam chamber and cover the lid.9. After 2 mins or when the vada color has changed to golden brown roll on the other side to bottom. check if the oil at the bottom of the appam chambers is sufficient.if not add tiny drops to the required chamber.10.Now keep moving the appam in all directions to cook uniformly and do not cover it at this we need it to be crunchy and cooked.Garlic chutney method:----------------------1. Roast all the sliced garlic in about1/2 tsp of oil till it turns slightly brown at the edges.Now add dry red chillies and keep roasting for another minute2. Now add coconut grates[fresh],tamarind,water,salt and blend into not too fine paste.This chutney can be taken with rice,chapathi or even dosa.So prepare more and it store well in fridge for about 2 weeks in a air tight container.Assembling the vada pav[star dish]:-----------------------------------1. Grease the pav bread on the inner side with butter or olive oil and slightly toast it on the stove top.[optional] well i have omitted it out.2.Now open the pav and grease it with the garlic chutney as much as you wish.3. Place the batata vada in between the bun, add a tiny bit of tomato ketchup and press the top.4.Do not wait any longer just have it immediately yummm...........enjoy.....[...]

Mushroom baskets



Chopped mushroom - 2 cups
whole grain bread - 6 slices
cheese - 1/2 cup
chopped coriander leaves- 1 tbsp
chopped garlic - 1tsp
red chilly flakes - 1/2 tsp[ optional]
salt - as per taste


1. In a non stick pan take about a spoon full of olive oil. When it becomes hot add chopped garlic to it and saute for 1 min . Just when it turns a bit golden add chilly flakes . Wait for about 30 sec.
2. Now add coarsely chopped mushrooms and season with slat and pepper and saute for about 4 mins.
3. Just when the mushrooms are done add the cheese and put off the fire. Keep mixing to inco-operate the cheese with the mushrooms.
4. Now cut the bread into half and then spray it on both the sides with pam or apply oil/ ghee on both the side of the bread. If required you can use a cookie cutter and cut it into circles and then apply the oil.
5. Now place these bread into muffin pan and bake in the oven for about 5-7 mins at 350 deg or until it becomes golden at the edges.
6. Now remove them from the oven,add about a spoonful of the mushroom stuffing into the bread baskets which we have already baked to form hard crust.
7. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander greens and place it in oven and bake for another 5 mins.
8.Serve immediately with desired chutney or ketchup . Can be enjoyed as its is also.

batani gashi [ konkani style]



onion - 1 large+ 1 medium
garlic - 4-5large cloves
green chillies - 2-3
black pepper - 10-12
coriander leaf - 1/2cup
salt - as per taste
cooked green beans-3 cups
water - 1 cup
jaggary - 1.5 tsp
tamarind - small gooseberry size
cumin seeds - 1 tsp
oil - 1 tsp


1. Chop up onions into 4 large chunks and roast them over the rack with garlic cloves over high flame.I have used the grilling rack which i use for fluffing up phulka's. Grill until they turn blackish at the edge . Allow it to cool down.


2. Chop up the coriander leaf and green chillies. Dry roast the black pepper until you hear the cracking sound.

3.Remove the pepper corns and in the same pan add green chillies and coriander leaves and simply saute them without adding any oil for a minute or two.

4. Add everything together in a blender and make a fine paste out of all the roasted ingredients, tamarind and greens and keep aside.

5.Now pressure cook the green peas until just done and keep aside.

6. Chop one medium sized onion .

7. In a deep nonstick pan add 1 tsp of oil,when the oil is heated add cumin seeds and wait for 15-20 sec.

8. Then add chopped onion and saute till it turns slightly transparent.

9. Now add the cooked peas,add the paste and saute for few minutes. Add jaggery ,adjust salt as per taste.

10. Simmer and cook for another 5-10 minutes. Serve with warm phulkas or rice as you wish.


Moolike patheki subji



chopped raddish greens - 2 cups
onions - 1 large chopped lengthwise
cumin/jeera - 1 tsp
mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
curry leaves - 4-5
brown sugar/jaggery - 1 tsp
red chilly powder - 1 tsp
turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
salt - as per taste
oil - 1 tsp

1. Clean and chop the radish greens and keep aside.
2. Chop onions lengthwise and keep ready.
3. In a pan add 1 tsp of oil , add jeera,mustard seeds,dry red chilly and just when it starts to splutter add onions ,curry leaves and saute till it turns slightly transparent.
4. Now add the greens and keep mixing to blend everything together.Add 1/4 cup of water.
5. Add turmeric powder,chilly powder ,salt as per taste .
6. Cover and cook on medium heat for 5 mins.
7. Now add brown sugar mix and stop the heat. Serve with warm rotis or rice with ghee.

Kadle uppukari



Black channa - 2 cup
oil - 1tbsp
mustard seeds - 1 tsp
urad dal - 1/2 tsp
dry red chillies - 1-2 broken
fresh coconut grates- 1tbsp
salt - as per taste
chilly powder - 1.5 tsp
hing - 1.4 tsp
jaggery - 2 tsp


Method :-
1.Soak the dry channa overnight in water and pressure cook them adding little salt until tender.I have cooked for 3 whistle.

2. In a pan add oil and then to it add mustard seeds,urad dal,broken red chillies and curry leaves. wait till the mustard seeds starts to splutter. Then add hing to the oil.

3. Then add the cooked channa with the water ,adjust salt to taste ,add chilly powder. Cover and cook for 5 mins.

4.Switch off the heat. Add freshly grated coconut grates and cover it.Mix when ready to serve.

Dates Halwa



This is another dessert with low calories compared to others. It contains minimal ingredients,easy to prepare,yummy to taste. Beleive me friends its simply irresistable. You will be tempted to prepare it again and again. Its very healthy and good for winter as it contains variety of dry fruits.


Dry Dates - 2 cups
Banana - 4 fully ripe
Ghee - 1.5 tbsp
Cashew - 1 tsp
Almonds - 1tsp
Raisin - 1 tsp
Milk - 1/4 cup
Sugar - 1.5 cup [adjust according to taste]
Cardamom pod - 4-5

1. Put 2 cups of dates and milk in a microwave safe bowl and cook in the microwave for 3-4 mins on high. Allow to cool down.

2. Peal all 4 banan's and chop them into chunks and blend into a paste.

3. Now blend the dates with the milk into paste using the blender.

4. Take a heavy bottom nonstick pan, add 1/2 tsp of ghee, then add pureed banana and dates . Keep stirring . Then after 10 mins add sugar to the mixture. Grease a plate or a try with ghee and keep ready.

5. Keep stirring for around 15-20 mins. The color also changes to deep brown from light brown. The mixture combines to gather forming a single mass and leaves edges when very careful and keep stirring.

6. Now take little ghee in a small kadai and add broken cashews,almonds and raisin to the ghee and fry till it turns slightly golden.

7. Now add all the dry fruits to the date mixture ,add the freshly powdered cardamom . Mix properly.

8. Now transfer the entire mixture to the greased plate and spread uniformly with a greased spoon. Allow to cool and draw lines in desired pattern .


Creamy fruit popsicle



This is a very easy and a healthy dessert. Good one for those who are very conscious of what they are eating calories etc. This is a very good option for those late night cravings.I have tried this with many other fruits like rasberry , pine apples , blueberry......endless option. Here banana gives the creamy texture. For tropical feel try adding coconut milk mango and pine apple chunks .

Ripe banana - 1 large ( a cup app.)
Strawberry - 1.5 cups
sugar - 2 tsp
Milk - 1/4 cup
water - 1/4 cup


Method :-
1. Add banana, strawberry , sugar milk and water into a blender and make a course mixture.

2. Take a popsicle rack and fill it with the same mixture.

3. Cover and freeze it for 5-6 hrs.

4. Keep it out for 1 -2 mins before removing it from the rack.

5. If it does'nt come out easily try pouring the exterior of the rack with hot running water for 1 min then pull out.It becomes much more easy.Enjoy.


Broccoli Salad



This might be one of the best way to have the broccoli. Its very easy to make, requires less efforts . Let me tell you one who don't prefer to eat broccoli also fell in love with this dish. This is rich in fibers and vitamins too. It requires very minimal everyday ingredients. This had become a weekly salad in out house.As me and my hubby love to try different type of salads it has become one in our hit list.

chopped broccoli - 1 big head
chopped garlic - 1 tbsp
chilly flakes - 1/2 tsp ( optional)
olive oil - 1 .5 tsp
salt - as per taste
pepper - as per taste
parmesean cheese - 1 tbsp

1. Cut up the broccoli florets and wash them properly. Put them in a microwave safe bowl and cook them in high temperature for 2 mins .Then keep them aside.

2.In a nonstick pan add the olive oil,put the heat in medium and just when olive oil becomes hot add chilly flakes and wait for around 15-20 sec. Then add chopped garlic and fry till it turn a bit golden in color.

3. Now add the broccoli to it and mix well for anothe2 mins and remove the pan from the heat.

4. Add the prepared broccoli to the serving dish and sprinkle some powdered cheese on the top as little or more as you prefer.

5. Enjoy it when its still warm.

This is a festival which is celebrated by all no matter which ever religion they follow. Everyone get together and celebrate it as a single caste that is human. Well its celebrated by people in different ways depending on the region they belong to. I belong to southern part of India. That is from a city called Mangalore which is located in southern part of Karnataka.Its celebrated all three days with equal importance. First one is called the naraka chathurdashi.On this day we get up early in the morning .Everybody take a oil bath ,from head to toe people smear oil,then light some patakas, light up some diyas, them take a hot water bath,pray to god then start their day with lots of sweet and savory dishes. All 3 days we light up diyas in front of our door and decorate the entire house with diyas.We exchange sweets with our near and dear ones,friends and family and so here am i to do the same with all of you.Ingredients:---------------Channa daal - 1 cupcoconut milk - 12 oz can or fresh ly prepared 1.5 cupJaggery - 1 cup [powdered and packed]Elachi powder[cardamom] - 1/2 tspcashews ,raisins - 1 tsp eachghee - 1 tspwater - 1/2 cupkesar - 1/4 tspsalt - 1 pinchMethod:---------1.Pressure cook channa daal until just done and keep aside.2.In a another vessel take water and add crushed jaggery and bring to a boil . Then add cooked daal,coconut milk.and simmer and cook for 2 mins.3.In a small pan add the ghee,then add cashew and raisins and roasted them till they turn slightly brown. 4.Add cashews and raisins to the daal mixture. Then add cardamom powder and cover the keep and put of the heat.5.You can serve it hot,warm ,room temp or even cold.enjoy....[...]

Ghee Rice



sonamasoori rice - 3 cups
clove - 3-4count
cumin/jeera - 1 tsp
cardamom - 3-4 count
cinnamon stick -1 inch piece broken into pieces
black pepper corns- 5-6 count
cashew ,raisins - 6-8 whole each
onion - 1 large [diced]
mixed vegetables - 2 cups
pepper powder - 1.5 tsp
chilly powder - 1 tsp
salt - as per taste
olive oil - 1/4 cup
ghee - 1/4 cup
water - 6 cups


1. Take a nonstick pan add about 1 tbsp of olive oil.On a medium heat add jeera and wait for a min. Add clove,cardamom,cinnamon, pepper corns and fry for about 2-3 mins until the aroma fills up the room.
2. Now add washed and drained rice to the pan and add 1 tsp of ghee and mix it with the spices and fry for about 3-5 mins .Now add the water ,salt,chilly powder,2tsp of oil , ghee and pepper powder and cook it in rice cooker.
3.Now in a pan fry the onions until they turn transparent.add the vegetables and saute for another 3 mins.
4.Just when the rice is almost done add the vegetable and mix well .Cover and cook for5 mins until its done perfectly.
5.In a pan add 1tsp of ghee and add cashews and raisins fry them till it turn a bit brown.
6. Add it to the rice and serve when its still hot.Enjoy....

Creamy tomato carrot soup



Carrot - 2 cups diced
Tomato - 3 large
onion - 1 medium size
garlic - 2 large cloves
ginger - 1tsp grated
cumin seeds- 1 tsp
chilly powder - 1 tsp
sugar - 1 tsp
Garam masala- 1tsp
pepper powder -1 tsp
butter - 1tsp
olive oil - 1 tsp


1. Pressure cook carrots until they are very tender. Puree it until it forms a fine puree.
2. Puree the tomatoes and keep aside.
3. In a pan add little bit of oil and butter . Then add cumin seeds and wait till they splutter. add onions and stir till it turns transparent. Now add ginger and garlic and stir for another 2-3 mins.
4. Now blend all the contents of the pan to a fine paste.
5. Add the remaining butter and oil and the cumin seeds[jeera] and just when it sizzels add all the puree into the pan and add all the masalas .
6. Add salt ,sugar and enough water as per your preference and simmer and cook for another 10 mins.
7. Garnish with pepper powder and butter. Enjoy....

Instant oats idlies


This is a recipe which i cant wait to share with my friends. Believe me my friends they came out so good and fluffy.It not only looks good but the taste is unforgetable. Even my three year old ate 5-6 idli without any fuss. I have got a special liking towards oats. Always try to use it in different ways to use it in various foodies. I just like the flavour what it adds. Yumm....I started to use it forcefully thinking its good for health . But now im so addicted to the taste what it renders. I have prepared a bunch of items but guess this is the best and even the upma. I will post the recipe soon. Till then enjoy trying these idli


Oats - 1.5 cup[ I used steel cut oats ]
Sooji coarse - 3/4 cup
curds - 1.25 cups
water - 1 cup
cooking soda - 1/4 tsp
salt - 1 tsp or as per taste
Olive oil - 1 tsp


1. Dry roast oats in a non stick pan for around 4-5 mins till you can smell the aroma. Keep it on the side to cool.
2. Dry roast sooji/samolina for about 5 mins till it turns slightly brown,allow to cool.
3. Now finely powder the roasted oats using a blender.
4. Take a large mixing bowl,add the oats powder,samolina,salt curds and water.Adjust water as per needs .
5. Batter will resemble idli batter But it will be a bit slimmy .
6. Add the cooking soda and mix well and keep aside for 5 mins.
7. Now greese all the idli trays with litlle bit of oil and pour the batter uniformly on all the trays.
8. Steam cook for about 8-10 mins .Immerse a tooth prick to the centre and if it comes out clean the idli is done.
9. Remove and serve warm with sambar or chutney on the side.
10. Enjoy warm or room temperature.
