Red Chillies, nope! No loss in flavor! Bringing them to room temperature especially if you are going to be baking with them is a good idea. Toasting small quantities to be consumed in a day or two also helps enhance the flavor. Refrigeration - and it should be in an airtight container - help prevent the fats from turning rancid. Welcome to IFR!

Walnuts and almonds are favorite here. Good analogy about wlanut looking like our brain. The best that I could derive was a butterfly :-)
Also if I store it in the fridge, dosen't it loose its nutty taste?

Musical, must be the improved cognitive function!

I used to love walnuts with their shell on. We would throw them against the wall to break them. When there are walls, who needs a nutcracker!

And, yes, I am awake. Must be because you are, too. You're only an hour behind MT, dear! I'm working. What is your reason?
;-)

And you are still awake ;).

Love walnuts! Toasted walnuts are yummy! I think we are choosing common ingedients these days-i made a paech chutney with walnuts ;). Oh, and the fun of having walnuts in winters! I mean the ones with shell.

And Anita, how can you not mention the Shivratri parasad akhrot:the soaked ones! They are bliss!

It is even cheaper in Sam's where I buy a 3lb packet for about $11. It's more expensive in grocery stores.

So even though we don't get the true gold from Kashmir or Iran, we're still lucky?!

Yup! But I prefer plain toasted walnuts. Light toasting really brings out the flavors!

Candied almonds - they are deep fried - do the rounds during the Christmas season in our neighborhood. Absolutely sinful!

I love walnuts. But we don't snack on them enough - pistas are our chosen sin.

But they make a great snack when candied - have you ever had those? Mum used to make that - even the bits of sugar that remain in the pan afterwards get walnut flavoured - yum. Not as healthy - but a little sugar is okay?
