2011-12 Corvette Recalled for Faulty Hatch

2012 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport
You may think that the Chevrolet Corvette can blow the doors off of anything on the road, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that the luxury sports car could also lose its hatch in the event of an accident.

The root of the problem is the Corvette’s rear hatch hinges. USA Today explains, “Chevrolet is recalling 5,755 Corvette coupes from the 2011 and 2012 model years because the rear hatch hitches may not meet government safety standards, according to General Motors and the federal National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.”
The safety standard is vital to passenger safety because the rear hatch could separate in the event of a crash, thereby increasing the risk of injury. “One of the goals of that standard is to reduce the chance of an unbelted occupant being thrown from a vehicle during a crash,” writes The New York Times. “The company said the problem was discovered by a supplier during testing for a European safety standard. G.M. investigated and found the defective hinges all came from a single roll of heat-treated steel.”
The recall began on Oct. 7. GM will contact Corvette owners who are affected by the recall and dealers will replace both of the hinges free of charge. If you think your Corvette is included, you can contact Chevrolet directly at 1-800-630-2438.

Top 10 Tips For Buying a Car in 2011

New or used, buying a car is expensive. In fact, it's the second-most expensive purchase that most consumers make next to a home. Strong research is the key to buying a car that doesn't make too big of a dent in your wallet. Here are 10 things to do before you head off to a dealer's lot.10 car-buying tips1. Determine your budget2. Don't assume need to buy used3. Research your car choices4. Look at total cost of owning the car5. Assess your insurance costs6. Shop around for the best rate7. Be cautious using financing8. Know the invoice price9. Research rebates and discounts10. Look for dealer incentives Tip 1Determine your budgetDon't head to a dealer's lot until you've decided on a budget. Start by using the home budget calculator to find out how much you can really afford. In general, aim to spend no more than 20% of your monthly household income on all costs associated with all of the cars in your household. That would include the cost of monthly payments, insurance, repairs, maintenance and fuel. Tip 2Don't assume you need to buy usedThanks to strong demand for used cars, they are more expensive than ever and it's harder to get a good deal. In addition, there are now more inexpensive new cars coming to market than in the past. In fact, there are more than 20 different new cars that have an MSRP of $15,000 or less.Since interest rates are higher on used cars, you'll spend more in the long run on interest for a used car than a similarly priced new car, so the new car may actually be the wiser financial choice. To help you decide, read Bankrate's story on buying a car with $15,000.Tip 3Research your car choicesYou've probably already spotted some cars on the road that interest you, but take some time and research all your car choices. You'll be logging a lot of "seat time" behind the wheel for the next several years, so don't rush into a decision. Use the automaker websites and third-party, vehicle information sites such as, and to get pricing information and learn about available inventory in your area. Visit local dealerships only after you've completed the majority of your research and have just a couple of cars in mind.Tip 4Look at the total cost of owning the carCars whose monthly payment represents your total monthly budget will automatically put you in the red financially because you'll be over your budget when you factor in ownership costs. Choose cars that are at least 5% less than your monthly budget to give yourself some room to cover costs, including fuel, car insurance, repairs and maintenance.Tip 5Assess your actual insurance costsYour actual cost of car insurance can vary widely, depending on your personal driving record as well as certain household situations such as whether you have a teen driver. Once you have a few cars in mind, ask your current car insurance agent for quotes on all the cars you are considering and factor those numbers into your overall budget. To get an accurate quote, be prepared to tell the car insurance agent the exact make, including model, engine size and type, and specific options. While automakers tout 0% financing and other low interest rates in advertising, only those with the best credit -- about 10% of car buyers -- actually qualify. So, don't visit a dealership until you've researched the best interest rate you can get.Use Bankrate's rate search tool to see current interest rates and also check with local lenders, including credit unions, which are 1% to 2% lower on average than conventional banks on car loans. There are now many community credit unions open to anyone living in their area, eliminating the need to work at a certain company or in a specific industry to join. Use to find a credit union you can join.Tip 7Be cautious using manufacturer financingManufacturers want your business and they would prefer to sell you a car and provide you the financing, but that may not be the most financially savvy [...]

2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4

Exterior It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that the new Aventador LP700-4 follows the same design language as with the latest Reventon and Sesto Elemento concept. The model has been designed at the Centro Stile Lamborghini in Sant’Agata Bolognese and takes its inspiration from modern aeronautics and from the world’s fastest and most agile aircraft. The supercar is 4.78 meters long, 2.26 meters wide, and only 1.136 meters high. The proportions and body parts have been calculated to improve the car’s aerodynamics as much as possible. All of the aerodynamic elements are integrated into the body shell form, from the front spoiler to the rear diffuser, while the rear spoiler is deployable and controlled electronically. The 4 degree approach angle is optimized for high speed and assists directional stability at the very top end of the spectrum. The 11 degree tilt, on the other hand, delivers considerably greater downforce at mid-range speeds, helping to optimize handling and stability.Up front the Aventador gets an air guide further emphasized by glossy, black frames, and bi-xenon headlamps. These headlights are more than just a simple bulb behind a casing, they are an exercise in further design. The Y shaped lights spread out from the middle and a different set of LED lights within creates the turn signal. The side of the car have two sweeping strokes – the first emphasizes the front wheel arch; the second is a very sharply drawn line beginning at the front wheel arch. Lamborghini describes it as a tensed muscle running along the entire side of the car and over the rear wheel. Also, two large air intakes behind the upward-opening doors are used for a better cooling engine. Finally the rear gets a lower diffuser and rear LED lights that create the same shape as the ones out front. In what has become one of the most distinctive features for any Lamborghini, the passenger doors will open upwards towards the sky. This feature has been used on every major Lamborghini supercar since the Countach. Few companies have been able to create a specific design element that they are able to carry through various decades with such poise. The nearest competitor may be Mercedes Benz and the 300SL Gullwing of the past and SLS AMG of today.Customers will have the ability to choose from 13 exterior colors in pastel metallic, pearlescent, or matte. These include the newest shades of Grigio Estoque, Arancio Argos, AD Personam, Nero Nemesis, Bianco Canopus, and Marrone Apus. Automobili Lamborghini has really taken notice of the aftermarket world with their new paint options. Matte paint has become all the rage in high-end cars and can look especially striking on something as svelte as a Lamborghini. Three specific Matte tones will be available from the factory and should increase the curb appeal of these machines even further.Installing the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 within a museum in RomeInterior If you are one of the lucky few to have sat in a Reventon than you would know how Lamborghini was attempting to create a cockpit out of a dashboard. The revolutionary gauges that acted like the instruments of a jet plane were the first in a line of new technologies that would evolve into the Aventador. Instrumentation for the Aventador is displayed on a large LCD screen while a completely independent system and LCD screen controls stereo and navigation functions. The press release makes the center console of the car sound like your car is a robot by calling it the, “Human-Machine Interface.”The full leather single-color interior is available in either Nero Alde (black) or in Marrone Elpis, with the contrasting stitching offered in a range of colors. The two-tone leather interiors are offered in two styl[...]

Top 50: Fastest Cars

Introduction As humans, we have a fascination with speed. There's something hard wired into our brain to react to adrenaline, and we all know how much adrenaline is dumped into out system when we go fast. Over the last 100 years, we've gone from very slow, to very fast, and every few years it seems, a new King of the production fast cars comes along. More recently there have been so many new "hyper-cars" that we often don't realise its faster. Take the Bugatti Veyron for example. This is one fast fast car, and many believe it to be the worlds fastest production car. That however is wrong.Take a look through the list to see where your favourite Hyper-cars come. This list does not currently feature the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport (SS) due to the fact that it is currently not in production. When it goes into production in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2011 the list will be updated but until then, it's not a production car and therefore doesn't make it on to the list. 50. Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale

Lamborghini is showing off its new range-topping Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. As the name suggests, the latest and greatest Gallardo variant is based on the race car used in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, the automaker's exclusive annual racing series. So what are the differences between the race-spec Gallardo and the upcoming road-going version? Not much, according to the Italian supercar maker. The Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale will be powered by the familiar and potent mid-mounted, 5.2-liter, V-10 engine rated at 562 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed to all four wheels via Lambo's e-gear, six-speed automatic transmission with programmable Thrust Mode -- Lamborghini's launch control system that revs the engine to 5000 rpm for optimal starts. Lamborghini estimates the Super Trofeo will only need 3.4 seconds to scoot from 0-62 mph, while top speed is limited to 199 mph. Not only is the Super Trofeo super-fast, but it's also super-light, with a curb weight of 2954 pounds, exactly matching the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. That's not surprising, as both Gallardo variants employ heavy use of carbon fiber throughout the car, including door panels, a portion of the center console, and seat shells. Also constructed of carbon fiber is the engine compartment lid, which is easily removable and held in place by a quick-release system pulled from the race car. The Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale is available in three paint colors: Grigio Telesto, Bianco Monocerus, and Rosso Mars red, which Lamborghini says is a throwback to the days when race cars were painted according the competitor's home nation. The brake calipers are also painted red, while wheels, body kit, and rear spoiler provide contrast with a matte or glossy black finish. Inside, the red and black color scheme continues on to the suede and leather trim with contrast stitching. Carbon fiber and dark chrome metal switchgear add to the cabin's super sport feel.Available options cater to both race- and luxury-minded customers and include carbon-fiber ceramic brake discs, a roll cage, four-point safety belts, a fire extinguisher, satellite navigation, and Bluetooth connectivity.Lamborghini is only building 150 copies of the Super Trofeo Stradale. And judging by past special-edition Gallardos such as the Bicolore, we expect this race-inspired Lamborghini to sell out fast.[...]

2013 Lamborghini Estoque Review and Prices

Consumer Guide's Impressions of the 2013 Lamborghini Estoque

What's this? A Lambo sedan? Yup, a high-power, high-fashion concept suggests the Italian sports car legend might follow Porsche to Four-Door Land. But the Estoque is still years away, and its path to showrooms could be a dead end.

What We Know About the 2013 Lamborghini Estoque

Alarming financial news cast a pall over the October 2008 Paris Auto Show, but storied Italian sports car maker Lamborghini provided a feel-good respite by unveiling a stunning concept sedan. Yes, a sedan, only the third 4-door design in the company's 40-year history. Named Estoque (say "es-toe-kay") for a sword used in bull fighting, it's as sexy as any Lambo ever built. It also looks showroom-ready. Jaws dropped and tongues began wagging when Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann told assembled reporters that the concept is a fully operational prototype that could go into production.Explore & Compare Other Options
Reviews of All New Lamborghini Vehicles
Prices & Reviews of All New Luxury Cars
All New Sporty/Performance Vehicles

Could, mind you. For several reasons, the Estoque is not yet approved, and some reports say it won't be. And even if it is, Winkelmann says that Lamborghini would need at least four years to put it on the road, which suggests a 2012 arrival at the absolute earliest. But if it does go ahead, the Estoque is projected to more than double Lamborghini sales, to around 4,000-5,000 per year. That compares with a record 2,405 deliveries in 2007, divided between slinky V10 Gallardo and burly V12 Murcielago coupes and spider convertibles. Lamborghini is in the black, and the Estoque signals that it intends to remain there, recession or not. As Winkelmann told trade weekly Automotive News Europe, "If it's a feasible dream but an economic disaster, we cannot propose it."

Modifications on Lamborghini

Modifications on Lamborghini

Enough of Bugatti Veyron editions? This time, it’s a Lambo in the news. British tuner Prindiville Prestige is offering the most expensive, special edition Lamborghini since the launch of the €1 million Reventon. Prindiville is renowned for creating one-off, custom-made cars and this completely restyled Murcielago LP-640 is one great example. The roadster has been redesigned from the ground up and the interior modifications alone were done for €330,000. These modifications include saddle-tanned leather, hand-finished aluminum accents and specially engineered aluminum air vents. The car has been upholstered in buffalo foreskins. Carbon fiber work is all the rage these days, so they did the whole outer bodywork in carbon fiber, excluding the front compartment lid. Valances, sills and louvers have been used for a shark-like appearance. Other notable upgrades include a titanium sports exhaust system, handleless doors with remote electric opening, miniature cameras in the door mirrors and a restyled engine bay cover.

The total cost for the bespoke special edition carbon fiber Lamborghini goes over $1 million. The Lamborghini Murciélago by Prindiville is daringly designed, stylishly aggressive and one of a kind.

Pagani Zonda R Revealed

Italian supercar brand, Pagani, has launched its fastest creation ever - the 739bhp Pagani Zonda R - at a gathering of customers and press in Milan. The new car has been three years in the making, and is what resulted when one customer asked Pagani to create “the ultimate track-day Zonda”.Inspired by Group C racers such as the Porsche 917 and Jaguar XJR9, the Pagani Zonda R’s design is unencumbered by any requirement for the car to be road-legal or homologated for racing competition; “It was born out of pure creativity,” said Horatio Pagani, owner of Italy’s only remaining independent supercar maker. The Pagani Zonda R’s all-new body and chassis are made from carbonfibre, aircraft aluminium, titanium and magnesium.Pagani also claims that the Zonda R is the first car in the world to use a woven mix of carbonfibre and titanium in its basic body structure. “The material is four times more expensive than regular carbonfibre,” explained Pagani, “and means we can shave 25kg from the weight of the ‘tub’.”The Zonda R shares only 10 per cent of its parts with the Zonda F. With a 50mm wider track and a 48mm longer wheelbase, the car is wider, lower and almost 400mm longer than a Zonda F.Powering the car is a development of the Mercedes 6.0-litre racing engine that powered the late-1990s CLK GTR racer. The mid-mounted narrow-angle V12 produces 739bhp at 7500rpm and 524lb ft of torque. The Zonda R weighs just 1070kg, giving it a Bugatti Veyron-beating power-to-weight ratio of more than 700bhp per tonne. Pagani claims that the Zonda R is capable of 0-62mph in just 3.0sec and a 233mph maximum speed. It should also be capable of significantly improving on the Zonda F’s 7min 28sec record lap of the Nurburgring. The Zonda R’s rear wing is much larger than the Zonda F’s and is accompanied by a large rear diffuser and a front splitter. Together they produce 2000kg of downforce at 186mph.The Zonda R costs almost €1.4m (£1.24m) plus taxes, three times as much as a Zonda F. Only 16 will be built, and only five of those are still unsold. “We built a scale model of this car to show at Geneva last year,” Pagani said. “Before then I was not sure there was a market for it, but at the show and afterwards we took nine deposits, which gave us funds to increase the development budget.”“The car’s long been a crazy dream of mine,” he continued, “but I never expected to find so many people who were just as crazy.”[...]

The Top 20 Sports Cars of All Time

THIS LIST IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN FRIENDS LET FRIENDS WRITE SHIT. WE DO APOLOGIZE. THE OFFENDER HAS BEEN SACKED. IT HAS BEEN MERCIFULLY UPDATED AND EXPANDED BY ONE OF OUR CRACK CAR WRITERS. As soon as the combustion engine was invented, men started playing with automobiles to see how fast they could make them run. It is in our blood, if you will.Over the past decades, hundreds of sports cars were produced by dozens of car manufacturers around the world. Which are the best sports cars of all time is a question we wanted to tackle head-on. Below you will find a list the top 20 sports cars of all time. Some featured innovative designs, others had incredible power, but one factor unified them all: they were all made to drive pretty darn fast!20. Audi RS4 (B7 Second Generation)In 2007 the Audi RS4 won the “World Performance Car” award. Among its competitors, we had Porsches, Ferraris and Jaguars. Do we need to add anything else?Design: Based on the A4 B chassis, the RS4 is practically a racing car masked under an executive station wagon frame. Simple yet beautiful.Performance: Powered by a 4.2-litre engine, with 8 cylinders in V formation, it produces an output of 414 horse power. It accelerates from 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4,2 seconds, and it also comes with Audi’s Dynamic Ride Control to provide an even better driving experience.Chick Factor: High. Some women just don’t like the aggressive look of sporsts car. That is where the RS4 comes handy: elegant style and stunning performance.19. Lotus Elise Series 2The British manufacturer Lotus Cars has a unique concept for sports car: “performance through light weight.” Introduced in 2000, the Lotus Elise Series 2 definitely took the Lotus family to a whole new level.Design: The Lotus Elise packs an aggressive design, despite it’s small frame. The car is 3,8 meters long and it weights less than a ton (from 860 to 910 kilograms). It also comes with a fiberglass body shell.Performance: Considering that the car features a modest 1.8-litre, 4-cylinders engine, one would not expect much, right? Wrong! This baby can go from 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4,7 seconds, and it has a top of speed of 150 mph (240 km/h). Given its light weight, you should also have a good time braking and cornering it.Chick Factor: Low. Some chicks like roadsters, other do not. If you want a car to impress the ladies, though, the Lotus Elise is probably not the best choice. It is, hmm… just small.18. Ford Shelby Cobra GT500The legendary partnership between Ford and Carroll Shelby dates back to the early 1960s. Ford would produce the Mustangs, and the Shelby factory would modify them. The result? Some of best performing muscle cars of all time. In 2007 they renewed the deal releasing the Shelby GT500.Design: The two companies managed to revive the Mustang prestige with the GT500 model. The red and white body colors are classic, with the “Le Mans” stripes going from nose to tail. Aggressive look as usual, featuring a new front line and air splitters.Performance: The Shelby GT500 comes with a 5.4-litre, DOHC V8 engine, producing 500 horse power. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-100km/h) in 4.5 seconds. The car also features a suspension kit and other improvements from Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT).Chick Factor: High. Mustangs are a legend and a tradition of the American sports cars scene. If on top of that you go around with a Shelby GT500, you sure will make an impact[...]

Lamborghini Embolado

Lamborghini EmboladoThe Lamborghini Embolado is an extreme sportscar characterized by an aggressive design with sharp and steady lines. The author is Luca Serafini, an Industrial Design final year student at University of Parma, Italy. The project idea came from the designer's dream to work as a designer for Lamborghini; a very natural desire, since he lives in Modena, just a few kilometers away from Sant'Agata Bolognese. As Luca Serafini explains "the inspiration came from the research of a Spanish festival, named "Embolado Bull" (or Toro Embolado). "The choice of the name was the first step towards the creation of this concept". "Based on the Gallardo dimensions, I started to define the main lines in a very marked and steady way, giving the front end taurin forms". The movement of the side surfaces gives the car a natural sleek appearance. All the design is based on the "aggressivity" theme. "After the recent launch of the Gallardo Superleggera, in order to make a tribute to it, I have adapted the Embolado Concept basing on the aestethic modifications of the new model, with some post-process in Photoshop." The Embolado was modeled in Rhino; the final renderings were created in 3DStudio MAX, with some post-process in Photoshop. About the Designer Luca Serafini is currently in his final year of the Industrial Design Course at the University of Parma, Italy. For three years he participated in the chassis design of the Formula Student racing car, in partnership with the University of Modena. Among his professional experiences are collaborations with the MilanPolitecnico and with car cutomization projects. He is starting a career as a freelance designer.[...]

2013 Chevrolet Malibu production brought forward: report

Production of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu (2012 Holden Malibu for the Australian market) has reportedly been brought forward four months to speed up the replacement of the current model.

Bloomberg reports that General Motors will bring production of the all-new global mid-sized sedan forward from May 2012 to January.
Holden confirmed earlier this year that the Malibu would be launched in Australia in 2012, filling a hole in its product range between the locally manufactured Cruze and Commodore.
Holden spokesman Jonathan Rose could not confirm the advancement of Malibu production, but insisted that Holden currently had no plans to change its launch timetable.
“It’s still our plan to introduce the Malibu towards the latter end of 2012,” Mr Rose said.
Asked whether an advance in global production could lead to an early arrival of our Malibu, Mr Rose said: “Not at this stage”.
The Holden Malibu will be powered by a range of four-cylinder engines, including a 2.5-litre unit with 141kW of power and 245Nm of torque. The engine will be teamed with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Engineers from Holden’s Powertrain Engineering team are currently calibrating the Malibu for General Motors’ global markets, as well as for Australia’s unique conditions.
The Malibu has been undergoing testing at Holden’s Lang Lang Proving Ground, and this image shows Malibu engineers stretching its legs on public roads in Phillip Island, Victoria.

2012 Holden Malibu engine details revealed

General Motors has confirmed more details about the 2012 Holden Malibu and its all-new 2.5-litre petrol engine.
(Rendering by Theophilus Chin)
The Malibu’s 2.5-litre four-cylinder Ecotec engine will produce 140kW of power and 250Nm of torque – giving it similar output levels to the Hyundai i45 and Kia Optima medium sedans (148kW/250Nm).
GM says the Malibu’s highway fuel consumption will be better than 7.8 litres/100km, but is yet to reveal combined cycle figures. That highway figure is hardly a surprise, given the current 2.4-litre Malibu achieves 7.1 litres/100km on the highway.
Considering the i45 and the Optima both achieve highway figures of 6.0 litres/100km and a combined cycle fuel consumption of 7.9 litres/100km, Holden will need the Malibu to better its current 7.1 litres/100km highway mark by a significant margin if it is to be competitive in Australia.
GM global chief engineer, Mike Anderson, said the direct-injection 2.5-litre engine promised to be one of the quietest and most refined engines in the medium car segment.
“The noise intensity is 40 per cent less than our 2.4-litre direct-injected engine, which was named one of Ward’s 10 Best Engines,” Mr Anderson said.
“Engineers also tuned the 2.5-litre to deliver more of its torque at lower rpm, giving the Malibu a stronger feel at launch and during on-demand manoeuvres, such as passing or accelerating on a freeway entrance ramp.”
GM says the Malibu will be offered with a range of “fuel efficient and powerful” four-cylinder engines, with turbocharged petrol and diesel engines expected to be revealed in time.
The Malibu will become a brand new nameplate in Holden’s Australian line-up when it is launched at the end of 2012.
The new model will be sold in almost 100 different countries – mostly in Chevrolet guise – as GM takes an increasingly global approach to its passenger vehicle range.
Expect more details on the 2012 Holden Malibu to be revealed over the coming months in the lead-up its late-2012 Australian launch.

Hyundai to ditch EVs, focus on plug-in hybrids, hydrogen fuel cell cars

Reports out of the Frankfurt Motor Show suggest South Korean giant Hyundai will abandon electric vehicle development to focus its efforts on hybrid and fuel cell vehicles.
According to South Korean newspaper The Chosunilbo, Hyundai Motors vice chairman and head of research and development, Yang Woong-chul, said plug-in hybrids and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles were the way of the future for the brand.
Mr Yang said he doubted the ability of electric cars to replace internal combustion engine-powered vehicles, naming driving range, battery technology and infrastructure as the key limitations.
While determined not to put all its eggs in one basket, Mr Yang said Hyundai’s sister company Kia would step up its focus on electric cars.
Kia is currently developing its first non-concept EV, reportedly a boxed-shaped compact car codenamed ‘TAM’. It will have an all-electric range of 160km on a single charge and will be capable of a top speed of 130km/h. The A-segment EV will reportedly be produced only for the domestic market, with no word of export plans at this stage.
Last year, Hyundai began production of the BlueOn electric vehicle. It has been used by fleets in South Korea, but Hyundai now plans to focus on developing hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicles.
In March, the Hyundai Blue2 Concept was unveiled at the Seoul Motor Show showcasing a hydrogen propulsion system, while in July, CarAdvice jumped behind the wheel of the Hyundai ix35 FCEV, a prototype hydrogen fuel cell vehicle with a range of 650km.
The Hyundai ix35 FCEV will enter mass production in 2015 with an estimated starting price of US$50,000.
What do you think of Hyundai’s strategy? Is it a good idea to bypass the all-electric trend, or do EVs have an important role to play in the short-term future of the automotive industry? Let us know in the comments section below.

It has Begun: First Lamborghini Aventador Crash

The first accident involving Lamborghini's newest flagship model, the Aventador LP 700-4 was recorded in Italy on August 30.
(image) According to the writings of Italy's, the driver of the Aventador attempted to pass a line of vehicles but was cut off by a truck that (legally) tried to turn left. The Lamborghini driver didn't have enough time or space to stop and collided with the truck ending his run on the ditch.
While the Aventador suffered extensive damage, fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.
So, how long do you think it will be before we hear about the next Aventador crash?

Miniature Lamborghini Aventador to Sell for at Least $4.2 Million or More Than 12 Times the Price of the Real Car!

Just when you think you have heard it all, something like this comes along and leaves you speechless. Former Mercedes-Benz engineer and German model maker Robert Gulpen used the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show to reveal an amazing miniature replica of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4. Leaving aside the tiresome work that went into building the 1:8 scale model, what makes this creation stand out from the crowd is its ridonkulous price tag of at least €3.5 million or about US$4.83 million at the current exchange rates. Given that the actual Aventador LP-700 costs around US$379,000, the miniature model will be auctioned off for at least 12 times the price of the real car it replicates! The insanely high price can partially be attributed to the precious materials used for the construction of the model. For example, Gulpen wrapped a 1/1000mm thin thread of solid gold around the carbon fibres that form the body of the car, while the rims and the entire interior were cast from solid gold and platinum. Furthermore, the Lamborghini logo adorning the bulletproof (!) glass showcase background is made from gold, platinum and precious gems. All in all, Gulpen says that the materials used for the construction cost €2 million (about US$2.8 million), while he spent around 500 hours to complete the build. Gulpen says on his website that the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 will go up for auction at Sotherby's or Chrystie's in New York or Dubai with a starting bid of €3.5 million (US$4.83 million) adding that at least half a million euros (US$690,000) will be given to charity. I, Robot: Toyota Retools Old Assembly Machines to Lower 2012 Camry's Manufacturing Costs

Toyota is the company that applied the (since copied by everyone) kaizen philosophy in car manufacturing to improve both on quality and efficiency. Now it has done something different: instead of installing new robots on the new Camry assembly line in Kentucky, it retooled the old units from its former plant in California. The decision played an important role in Toyota's successful attempt to reduce the new 2012 Camry’s price by 2% compared to its predecessor. “A lot of the tooling is new, however the equipment isn’t”, said Toyota’s executive vice president for manufacturing and engineering in North America. “We used a lot of equipment from the now-closed New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (Nummi) plant” he added. Nummi was a joint venture in California between Toyota and General Motors that went belly-up when the latter went bankrupt to emerge as the New GM. Nummi is now owned by Tesla, which will use it to manufacture the Model S. Despite Camry retaining the number one spot in US sales so far this year, its sales have decreased by 7% compared to 2010. Toyota’s mid-size saloon is also feeling the heat from competitors: over the same period, sales of two of its direct competitors, the Hyundai Sonata and the Ford Fusion, have increased by 22% and 16% respectively.   Story source: Bloomberg[...]

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 images and specifications

With the new Gallardo LP560-4, Lamborghini once again sets a higher standard for super sports cars. With its new engine, permanent four-wheel drive transmission and new suspension, it delivers clearly improved performance and dynamics. In parallel, its innovative design takes the classic lines unique to the Lamborghini brand one step further. Powerful elegance has never been so defined before. The Gallardo LP560-4 is the successor of the most successful Lamborghini model of all time. Approximately 7100 Gallardo models have left the Sant’Agata Bolognese production plant since its launch in 2003. ''The LP560-4 will consolidate this success story,'' states Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. ''It will outclass its predecessor in every aspect; its dynamics are distinctly breathtaking and its design sets new standards. With the introduction of the Gallardo LP560-4, we will consistently continue Lamborghini’s growth strategy''.The powerful heart of the Gallardo LP560-4 is the new 5.2 litre V10 engine with an output of 560 PS (412 kW) at 8000 rpm. The increase of 40 PS compared with that of the previous Gallardo, and the approximate 20 kilogram reduction in weight, improves the power weight ratio to 2.5 kilograms per PS (hp) and thus enhances performance. The LP560-4 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, its speed at 11.8 seconds is 200 km/h and its top speed lies at 325 km/h. At the same time the new, highly efficient engine enthrals its driver with its direct fuel injection system - ''Iniezione Diretta Stratificata''. Despite its clearly increased power, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by a staggering 18 per cent. The engineers in the Sant’Agata-based Technical Department have also improved traction, handling and stability at high speeds. The redesigned four-wheel drive transmission, the new suspension and the optimised aerodynamics as well as the reduced weight and decreased friction between the components, all contribute to the overall improvements in the vehicle. Thus the Gallardo LP560-4 presents itself as a cutting edge super sports car also suitable for the race-track. The car is also surprisingly suited to long-distance driving and despite its extreme performance capabilities is easy to control whilst maintaining utmost stability.A Lamborghini is and always will be a highly efficient athlete. Its extreme sensuality is based upon precision, performance and on spontaneous action. A Lamborghini’s elegance is that of stark, purist strength. This DNA of the Lamborghini brand is being continuously developed by the Centro Stile in every new car. Thus the Gallardo LP560-4 displays the precise lines and clean surface edges in its distinctly minimalist design. Ornaments or embellishments of any form are alien to it.Evolution of form systematically follows the demands of function: the newly designed front of the LP 560-4 squats deeply to the ground which contributes to its aerodynamic efficiency. The enlarged and clearly accentuate[...]

10. 1965 Pontiac GTO The Tempest line, including the GTO, was restyled for the 1965 model year, adding 3.1 inches (79 mm) (7.9 cm) to the overall length while retaining the same wheelbase and interior dimensions. It sported Pontiac's characteristic vertically stacked quad headlights. Overall weight increased about 100 pounds (45 kg). Brake lining area increased nearly 15%. The dashboard design was improved, and an optional rally gauge cluster ($86.08) added a more legible tachometer and oil pressure gauge. The 389 engine had revised cylinder heads with re-cored intake passages, improving breathing. Rated power increased to 335 hp (250 kW) at 5,000 rpm for the base 4—barrel engine; the Tri-Power was rated 360 hp (270 kW) at 5,200 rpm. The Tri-Power engine had slightly less torque than the base engine, 424 lb·ft (575 N·m) at 3,600 rpm versus 431 lb·ft (584 N·m) at 3,200 rpm. Transmission and axle ratio choices remained the same.1965 Pontiac GTO wiki 9. 1970 Buick ‘GSX’ Stage 1GSX / GSX Stage1 was the optional high performance package available on the GS 455 starting in 1970. The GSX ornamentation package was a $1,100 option on the GS455. The GSX was made to attract attention and to help showroom traffic in an effort to increase sales. The GSX was Buick's answer to Pontiac's GTO Judge and Buick advertised it as "A Brand New Brand Of Buick" and "Another "Light Your Fire Cars From Buick". It was only available with the standard big block 455 engine or the optional Stage 1 engine the first year. It was not a very popular model and not too many people bought them, and only 678 GSX'S were produced in 1970. Just 278 were equipped with the standard 455,with 400 being equipped with the optional Stage 1 performance package. GSX or any GS Stage-1 performance is comparable to that of the 'Hemi' 'Cuda with a much more luxurious car. This is partly due to the light weight of the 455 which is roughly 150 lb (68 kg) less than the Chevrolet 454. The engine's performance also relies on the tremendous torque this engine produces,510 lb/ft at a low 2800 rpm. Quarter mile times in the 13.30s were reported in numerous magazines in 1970. Production dropped in 1971 to only 124,and 44 in 1972. These numbers include the available 350-4 bbl option, the standard 455, and the Stage 1 engines. The 1970 Buick 455 Big block V8 with stage one heads produces around 420 hp and 510 ft·lbf (690 N·m). of torque.1970 Buick ‘GSX’ Stage 1 wiki 8. 1969 Ford Mustang ‘Boss 429’The ‘Boss 429’ 1969 Ford Mustang was the costliest non-Shelby Mustang Ford offered at the time. The reason came down to the semi-hemi 429 engine that Ford wanted to get into NASCAR. While the car was not built for its screaming starts, it was known for long-haul racing capabilities and smooth handling. In 1969, modified versions of the 428 Mach 1, Boss 429 and Boss 302 to[...]

Twisted Metal Broken: Official Trailer

If you’re and automotive video game nut like I am then you’ve no doubt played everything from the Twisted Metal franchise. First released in 1995 for the original Playstation, Twisted Metal was part Mad Max, part post apocalyptic vehicular warfare and part horror movie. It also gave a generation of crazed little car junkies a place to work out their most bizarre four-wheeled fantasies. It’s now 16 years later and Twisted Metal is back with Twisted Metal Broken, the newest game in the series. The premise is simple; strap on your vehicular weaponry, roll into the arena and blow up as many foes as you can. Win and you will be granted one wish by the evil Calypso Corporation, the organization behind the Twisted Metal Tournament. Players will be able to battle online with up to 16 players by utilizing the PlayStation Network in a variety of gaming modes. So, if you’ve always wanted to take your aggression out on other drivers, but didn’t want to face any legal repercussions, then I would highly recommend checking out Twisted Metal Broken when it debuts later this year on October 4th, 2011.

Getting the Most Out of Your Sports 4x4

Off road driving of a sports 4x4 is lots of fun. But it’s not so much fun to pay for repairs, new parts, and fresh paint jobs. The following are some tips you can use to get the most out of your performance four-wheel drive. This will maximize the fun factor and minimize the amount of maintenance money you need to put into it.Drive SlowlyOK, part of the fun of having a fast 4x4 is to drive fast on rough countryside sometimes. But realize that if you do this too often you create hazards that would not be present if you drove slowly. Driving quickly increases risk of undercarriage damage, tyre spin, and accidents. If you’re driving in steep and rocky terrain, a slow pace is usually more than sufficient to get to across obstacles and up and down hills. If you must gun it, do so when it is clear that there are few rocks and plant hazards. Just be sensible and only drive quickly when you want to really let loose.Keep a Tyre Puncture Kit in the CarWhen driving in rocky areas or areas with plant hazards such as cacti, tyre puncture becomes a concern. Therefore it makes a lot of sense to bring a tyre puncture kit. These kits often have contents such as the following: sticky self sealing strips, vulcanizer, a hole enlarger tool, and a plug stuffing tool to stuff the plugging strip into the hole.In addition, carrying a foot pump is a good idea. This may seem contrary to what you expect, but electric compressors/inflation tools are not always reliable. In most cases you will not have lost much air from your tyre, so a foot pump will be sufficient for reinflation, and they rarely break or malfunction.Bush AwarenessBushes in off road environments are hazards to the paint job. They may seem harmless, but as you brush past them repeatedly they begin to leave streaks and scratch the paint on the 4x4’s exterior. This will result in the need for a new paint job sooner than if you simply keep a good distance from bushes, so do this wherever possible.Add Larger Tyres and New Springs for ClearanceIts almost inevitable that when driving over bumpier are[...]
