Yall are being real tough on Mr. Morgan. He did not just say that he liked the way Reyes ran around the bases. Joe added that he loved how Reyes hit the ball and "Proceeded" to run around the bases.

"Proceeded" adds a lot to his comment. :-)

"Proceeded" makes his comment unstupid.

Joe should concetrate[sic] on being consistent.

2008-05-19T17:14:00.000-04:00

What about Joe's suggestion that you can only see the top half of the ball if the pitch is a low sinker, but you can see the whole ball if it hangs? Thus a a low sinker is harder to hit because you see less of the ball... WOW, just WOW!

The stupidest thing I heard last night was right after they showed the clip of Billy Wagner ripping his teammates for not being there. Joe Morgan said something like, "There's a little humor in there. I think he was trying to be a little funny." My god, what clip was he watching?!?!?

2008-05-19T14:05:00.000-04:00

first of all, yes, he clearly meant that he liked that he ran rather quickly around the bases: that's a stupid point. he was analyzing the homerun swing, and he chose to highlight a BS, irrelevant, "hustle," "scrappy," detail of the way he traveled the bases. so...he's a moron. he was not making a "good point."

what makes it funny is that he's so uneloquent that even those points that

I've always thought that it was disrespectful to run particularly slow around the bases. Guys get plunked for that all the time for running too slow. I think this was def a big reach AA. He was making a good point.

2008-05-19T11:10:00.000-04:00

If you want to make a point about an idiotic statement that Joe made. How about when they were talking about the foul pole and Jon said something about the curvature of the earth and Joe said "What you're an environmentalist now?"

That's a much better joeism.

I know what he meant. I know its easy to kill Joe Morgan but Reyes definitely wasnt just jogging.

Joe Morgan does have a tendency to stay stupid things, but this time he was saying something smart. He was trying to make a point that Jose Reyes ran the bases...and that he didn't stand there and watch the ball go out of the park like idiots such as Alfonso Soriano and Manny Ramirez do all of the time.

2008-05-19T09:20:00.000-04:00

Joe Morgan was praising him for not posing, but his home run was no sure thing and you could tell he was thinking triple. I'm sure that if he had hit a towering blast he'd have done the necessary amount of preening and posing.

Did Joe have a stroke in the off season? He sounds way different, but the content of his speech is still the same.

2008-05-19T08:13:00.000-04:00

I would just like to point out that it took exactly 3 minutes into Sunday night's broadcast for Joey to flub a line. He was talking about Wang and comparing his sinker to - from what I could gather - Brandon Webb's. But this is about how it came out...

"It's as good as Brandon's, uh, from Arizona...uh, Webb, with the uh, Diamondbacks."

It was almost like he was correcting

2008-05-19T03:32:00.000-04:00

Are you being intentionally dense, AA? Obviously he meant he liked the fact that Reyes didn't stand and watch, pose, etc.

Morgan is enough of an idiot that you don't have to go out of your way to misinterpret his words to make him look dumb.

2008-05-19T02:01:00.000-04:00

i actually think the better part of it was that after he said his first, borderline stupid comment, he felt the need to clarify by saying, "He hit it... and he proceeded to go around the bases."

good, joe!

what daniel said. haven't been stopping by much but when I do, the first post I've seen is just like this one. AA is really reaching.

Sometimes it seems you go out of your way to create "awful announcing" from "mildly imperfect announcing" and this is a good example. We all understood him very well.

I was watching the Cards-Rays game on Sunday, with Jay Randolph, Sr, and Rick Horton doing the pbp and color. That was bad enough(I wish Randolph would stick to golf and horse racing, and Horton just stfu), but then Mike Shannon and Horton switched places for a couple of innings in the middle of the game(they only do it when the game is on KSDK). Jesus H. Christmas, my ears started to bleed from

I thought that as well Anon, but seriously....jogging/trotting is still running.

2008-05-19T00:12:00.000-04:00

I know that's what he was trying to get at, and I would even agree with that statement if that's what actually came across. That being said, he's paid to talk with some sort of eloquence, or at least clarity, about the game and how it's played. That's pretty much the bare minimum of his job, right? This isn't Lost- we shouldn't have to analyze his analysis to figure out what he meant to convey

It sounded stupid, but I think Morgan meant he "ran" around the bases instead of trotting, jogging, etc.

2008-05-18T23:42:00.000-04:00

Earlier... Joe Morgan could not stop talking about how a first baseman was doing his job by catching balls in the dirt at first base... this went on and on for nearly an hour... and I couldn't help but wish someone else would just do their job as well...
