Re: Google is permanently nerfing all Home Minis because mine spied on everything I said 24/7 [Update x2]

Tue, 10 Oct 2017 20:08:17 -0000

Great article and well documented what happened. Have to say though that the headline is a bit sensationalised. Technically speaking, Homes do listen to everything you say (as do Echos, as do iPhones that have the "Hey Siri" hotword) but this buggy one wasn't doing anything different on the listening to everything front. It did have a false press bug that meant more often then it should of, it was sending your voice to be handled as an action.

To me, and admittedly a Google fanboy, this shows:
1) They took the issue extremely seriously and did something about it
2) Because of Google's openness in the voice area, you were able to see exactly what they heard and judge if this was a pattern that had more implications than it did and also allowed you to NUKE any conversations it wrongly heard and you wanted off your permanent record.

Re: 5 Best Mobile Application Development Platforms

Did you not check out Telerik Native Script or was it not in the top 5?

Re: Google Assistant – have you received it on your phone?

Thu, 06 Apr 2017 18:42:21 -0000

Glad you asked as I wasn't 100% sure myself. I figured just holding the home button might show it.

Re: Hands on with LG Watch Style and Sport, and Huawei’s Watch 2

Mon, 27 Feb 2017 17:59:58 -0000

I hear a lot of podcasters at the end of their shows say "Please support our sponsors the way they support us". Well, I feel the same with Smart Watches! I'll be supporting LG and Huawei the way they supported us! I will be buying a Huawei Watch 2 the day I can lay my money on it!

Re: The results are in: Meet the 2017 Ausdroid Watch, as designed by you

Re: The results are in: Meet the 2017 Ausdroid Watch, as designed by you

Fri, 17 Feb 2017 17:48:14 -0000

So who is Ausdroid tapping to build it and when will it be available? ;-)

Re: Huawei confirms new Android Wear 2.0 watch is coming at MWC

Is it likely to have NFC?

Re: Why it’s hard to bring new Android Wear to Australia, and what we really want here

Thu, 09 Feb 2017 07:59:16 -0000

Can I suggest that step one is going onto the LG Australia Live chat and voicing our concern and wish for them to bring it here (https://t.co/uBxSsSBorN). We probably need a HashTag and regular tweets aimed at LG Australia!

Silly question (as I am not good on mobile band/radio stuff): Didn't I read somewhere that the band Vodafone use is supported? Would lobbying them to partner with LG to bring the Watch to Australia be a good move? Be a point of difference!

Keep up the good work Ausdroid. You should spear head this campaign!

Re: Vaya updates Unlimited XL plan; adds more data (but still isn’t exactly ‘unlimited’)

Do people still call and/or text from phones anymore?

Russia are getting them but Australia isn't? What'd?

Re: ZTE is rumoured to be working on an Android Wear watch, and we have images

Remember the 5 mins last year when Android Wear was dead? ;-)

Re: Google’s First Android Wear 2.0 Watch, The LG Watch Sport To Cost US$349

Wed, 01 Feb 2017 18:30:22 -0000

I want it but I am so nervous at the idea of importing! Will be extremely sad if it isn't released here!

Re: Source: The first new smartwatch with Android Pay, the LG Watch Sport, will cost $349

Wed, 01 Feb 2017 17:42:47 -0000

Any word on world wide release schedule? Namely will I be able to buy an Australian one? #HurryUpAndTakeMyMoney

Re: Confirmed: LG has “no plans” to bring LG Watch Style or LG Watch Sport to Australia when launched Feb 9

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 00:56:46 -0000

Sorry mate, probably a bit harsh of a comment. ;-)
I personally think I'm after the Sport (if it's the full featured one) any way! So as long as that comes here, I'm okay! ;-)

Re: Confirmed: LG has “no plans” to bring LG Watch Style or LG Watch Sport to Australia when launched Feb 9

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 00:37:27 -0000

Does this mean the sport is coming? Or means very little apart from a site tweeted something?

Re: Opinion: Telstra shows why net-neutrality is important, by zero-rating music streaming from only one provider

Mon, 23 Jan 2017 19:48:23 -0000

I don't care what words mean and what people referring to them mean. I have no issue with a telco offering any or all of the services you get from the company at no data or financial cost to your plan. I agree with those that say as long as they provide proper coverage for all services and don't shape those services.

I see it the same as if Telstra offer 100gb, 1000gb or unlimited for a price. It all goes to what plan you choose.

Re: Research for WSJ raises concern over just how much Google advertises its products on its own ad platform

Thu, 19 Jan 2017 16:53:22 -0000

A) this test is flawed as this assumes that searches where Google knows nothing about the searcher. If advertisers are asking for specific types of users, they can't know if they are getting that from this sort of searches. So if no one is bidding on those ads, should Google leave the ad spots bare or use their own ads?
B) Why shouldn't Google buy their own ads? I am sure if someone bids enough for the keywords they wouldn't turn it down but they see more value to themselves showing their own ad. They are a business after all, not a charity!
c) how many folks in the world would actually have a "fresh" portfoilo with google when doing a search? My bet is very few.
D) also were EACH search done on a fresh computer, with a fresh browser session and possibly fresh IP address. It could be a case like the Joke of the guy that goes to the doctor and is shown inkblots and says everyone reminds him of sex. When the doctor suggests he thinks the guy has a sex problem the guy says "Your the one with all the dirty pictures". Perhaps the searches re enforced the user model to show Google ads about Google products.

Re: Nvidia’s new Shield TV Console goes on-sale today in the US – you can order from Amazon or B&H Photo Video

Mon, 16 Jan 2017 17:58:34 -0000

I think we should all follow Nvidia Shield twitter account and every tweet we all tweet the question: Australia? Perhaps Ausdroid should front this campaign and come up with a catchy hashtag as well!

Re: NVIDIA is bringing Google Assistant to your TV, plus a new Shield Console and NVIDIA AI microphones

Thu, 05 Jan 2017 02:03:37 -0000

A) great! B) The Shield 1's game controller has a microphone too

Re: Alexa Bliss Appears to Pop Arm Back into Place During Smackdown Match (Photo), Top Indy Star on 205 Live, Bret Hart Praises Nikki Bella

Wed, 28 Dec 2016 06:30:00 -0000

I don't know about double jointed but she might have a condition like Ehlers–Danlos syndrome that means you have "faulty" collagen and you can bend parts of your body in interesting (and some times freaky ways). Lots, if not most, contortionists have EDS and thats why they can put themselves through tennis racquets (that and training) and why you and I can't. The elbow bending the wrong way always freaks me out (my wife has EDS) a little. I think it is brilliant if Alexa worked out that she can use that skill to her advantage!

Re: Android Pay is finally confirmed for Android Wear, though few will support it for now

Thu, 22 Dec 2016 22:12:19 -0000

I had thought the second issue (have to admit thinking of it at drive throughs and the like. Even if it stops the need for taking out the phone at most places, the ones it doesn't make sense there will still be the phone.
The first issue you raise, I assume they will have a sound and/or vibration the way the phone does that shows it has been successful.

These issues must have possible solutions as the Apple Watch already supports Apple Pay and the Samsung Watches (or maybe just one of them) supporting Samsung pay.

Re: Android Pay is finally confirmed for Android Wear, though few will support it for now

Thu, 22 Dec 2016 19:43:45 -0000

A) lets see the implementation
B) Android Pay has a dispute mechanism built straight in so I am assuming if you notice the buzz of a "skimming" attempt, you can instantly dispute it and good luck the skimmer explaining why it should not be backed out!
c) Its a one off, as I understand, credit card number so they can't steal that either.

Re: Nvidia Shield TV is about to get a refresh with two size models pictured in latest leak

Wed, 21 Dec 2016 23:39:10 -0000

Still using my first gen one and its got better over time with the addition of Plex Media Server software! I need to buy a TV for my sons room and am currently thinking of a Sony with Android TV built in but this might be a better option! Getting a big HD in it would be a prime consideration to support local Plex content!
