Re: Stubbing Components in Ember Integration Tests

Awesome technique. Exactly what I was looking for. In my case, I had to use `this.owner.register`, though.

Nevermind! I had an extra semicolon in LinkListContainer/selectors at Object.assign(substate.toJS(), { routeTopicName }); <--- invalid semi

Since this is 6 months old, I would assume I should not be running into this issue, but I am. What is the actual fix for this problem besides re-cloning the repo?

Sweet! Can't wait. Will definitely be keeping an eye on your series. :)

I know all about Evernote and I'm into productivity, I just can't seem to grok how to use Evernote to my advantage. I know it's a powerful tool, but not sure how exactly to use it.

Targets? I guess that's something one could worry about...or not.

Interesting. I wonder if Frequency is also leveraging Facebook Likes, though.

Re: Your Article Marketing Strategy is Crap

Wed, 20 Apr 2011 18:30:53 -0000

Well, the primary motivation for this post is in putting your content into a
site that could later be classified as spammy or a content farm.Dumping
content into a site with the express purpose of linking back to your site is
a fine line to walk. Especially when the primary content on that site is
from a bunch of people with the same goal.

To me, it makes more sense to get your content posted on some other blog in
your niche that might have more juice than you. I don't mean to say all
article marketing is worthless, but you put your content and your brand into
someone else's control. The floor can be yanked out from under you at any
time. Duplicating content can also sully your image and I'd much rather post
another 140 character tweet than write an entire article just for a link.

You have to diversify :)

In my experience, social media trumps any type of profile or traffic that
you might build from article marketing. Get on Facebook and Twitter and
network with like-minded folks. Traffic will come as you connect directly
with people who care about what you care about.

I had the feeling that we could be missing some context here as well. It just doesn't make sense given the whole picture an remarks he's made before.

Re: iPad 2 is One-Third Thinner, Available in White, and Coming March 11th | Black Web 2.0

While I think some of the software on the iPad 2 is awesome (mostly GarageBand), there is no way I could subject myself to the whole Apple ecosystem. It's just too restrictive for me.

Re: Facebook Launches Integrated Commenting System | Black Web 2.0

Wed, 02 Mar 2011 12:11:16 -0000

There is never a way to completely stop anyone from doing anything where tech is concerned and the majority of anonymous commenters are up to no good. That doesn't mean all of them, but most of them. :)

Very interesting points. Something between marketing/sales and coding sounds like a pretty awesome job!

Re: Why I Decided Against Apple From Jump

Thu, 17 Feb 2011 14:11:13 -0000

Not trying to dis anyone who likes Apple's setup, but it's just not for me. I want my stuff to be my stuff with no strings attached. I want to be able to put stuff on my device and transfer it between computers. I don't need Apple threatening to erase my music library because I hooked my phone up at a different location :)

As for the the subscription model, it works just fine for publications. They do gain a benefit from being distributed via Apple since they have no such mechanism of their own, but it's different for other types of companies.

Netflix and Hulu, for instance, are different types of businesses that probably won't gain the same benefits as a magazine or news paper...which pretty much has no other method of distribution besides iTunes.

As far as Voice Control on the iPhone. Yes, you can tell it to do stuff like play music or dial a number, but can you tell it to send a text message? Compose an email? Update your Twitter status? That's a different feature entirely.

Re: T-Mobile USA Confirms Sidekick 4G and Samsung Galaxy S 4G | Black Web 2.0

Fri, 21 Jan 2011 08:12:10 -0000

You make an excellent point, there. Part of the fun of having a sidekick were the exclusive services and social networks you had access to. I wonder if the same thing could be duplicated via custom apps, though. As far as I know, carriers and possibly developers can restrict an app to a specific handset.

It's a double-edged sword, though. Danger was a bit ahead of its time, but to come back to the game with the same proprietary platform would be an immediate death sentence.

We'll see how it goes, though :)

Re: T-Mobile USA Confirms Sidekick 4G and Samsung Galaxy S 4G | Black Web 2.0

Fri, 21 Jan 2011 07:17:58 -0000

Depending on the price point, the Sidekick 4G could end up being a hot item. It was one of the first phones I know of that even had an app store. The only reason I got rid of it was because there was no easy way to hack it so I switched to Windows mobile. With Android+Marketplace and a reasonable price, it could become a hot item again.

Re: OpenLeaks Will Bring a New Style of Leaking | Black Web 2.0

Wed, 15 Dec 2010 10:59:00 -0000

I think it's possible, but difficult. Linux, for example, doesn't really have a spokesperson. I'm sure many more people have heard of Linux than have heard of Linus Torvalds.

Re: Gawker Media Under Siege, User Information Compromised | Black Web 2.0

Looks like it's reached farther than that. To Yahoo and a few other services. This probably won't end any time soon. People love doing bad things with data and they also are bad at changing their passwords.
