Sad too Louis. Very, very sad

Re: Android Jelly Bean passes 10% adoption, ICS nears 30%, and Gingerbread finally falls under 50%

Imagine if the 'average' smart phone user knew how to upgrade .... or the carriers helped more. I had a basically useless LG Lucid (serious battery chomper under Gingerbead) which finally got the ICS upgrade a couple of months ago and instantly became one of my favorite phones. Wholesale difference. Appears Google and LG working together on Nexus also has them upgrading streaming DVD players and lots of other devices.

I've used Disqus over the years for the same reason (not to mention ongoing attention and for lack of a better way of putting it, technological excellence!).  The sites that REALLY irk me (including some major tech blogs) are the ones that have moved to Facebook comments thinking the quality will be better with 'real identities'.  When I do go to Facebook, my privacy features are now locked down tight for a variety of reasons.  THOSE sites (Yes, including TechCrunch) are missing out on valuable contributors.

Lawrence - Think it's way to premature to say Google+ has failed.  You'll notice the date of this piece.  Obviously things have changed since then. An upcoming piece will explain why i haven't been writing here as much as 'back in the day' :)

Nice Sarah!

Re: SEO and Tech Daily: Where Did SEO and Tech Daily Go?

Sat, 18 Jun 2011 21:14:24 -0000

In brief, SEO, at least for Google takes in a LOT of stuff.  At least a couple of hundred factors figure into the Google algorithm at any particular time.  The rest is simple.  Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to blog as often as I used to (or code).  Blogger makes it (ultra)simple ... keeps improving ... and hosting / everything else is well .. ugh .. free.  BTW ... The templates can be modified fairly easily.

Re: SEO and Tech Daily: Google Adds +1 To Blogger Pages and Speech Search!

Sun, 12 Jun 2011 03:33:11 -0000

@ Traffic I see the +1 as one of many ways Google seeks to be sure they maintain a presence, one way or another, on as many web pages as possible.  Whether or not it effects SEO at all is open for debate (and could change in a heartbeat)

Re: - Silicon Valley Early Adopter Tech Geek Blog: A Scorched Earth Data Policy Is Bad for the Web and History

Sun, 05 Jun 2011 23:53:39 -0000

Louis - I'd wager a guess that this goes a touch further to a Social Media policy, (either upcoming or existing), or possibly even a policy change period.  I'm sure you remember when Forrester changed their policy so that people could no longer brand themselves (IE: Jeremiah and Co.).  Many policies are getting stronger and stronger, and frankly, with people overdoing Facebook, I honestly can't blame some of these companies.  Some have called it 'limiting free speech'.  I beg to differ.  You can always ghost write (or blog)..  BTW .... Hope you're doing well!

Re: Investing In The Cultural Revolution

Sat, 04 Jun 2011 22:23:14 -0000

Fred - First time I've read ALL the comments on a blog post in a long time.  Good run here.  I think the 'real' investment is the unique people that can vision where all of this is going socially and otherwise at an incredibly hyper pace (IE: The Internet).  There's simply no doubt that governments, social leaders and others needed a literal warning on how the Internet, tech and mobile were changing the landscape almost overnight.  Personally I believe this contributed to the recession (or depression as some may still see it) and not just the 'banking issues'.  A quantum shift in the way we govern and do business that hardly anyone saw. There needed to be a flag for leaders in all sectors.  Maybe invest in a National (and Global) think tank?  There are some huge messages here, both good and bad .... and we can't afford to miss them.  Just my two cents :)

Re: Marc Andreessen Says There’s No Bubble. But He’s Happy if You Think There Is.

Thu, 02 Jun 2011 01:58:09 -0000

Some of today's valuations are just crazy (Think AOL / Time Warner).  On the flipside, there's a HUGE amount of enterprise upgrade business still waiting out the recession cycle so the future for other tech sectors should be super solid over the short and long term.

Re: For Digg and Other Web Services, 5 Years Can Be a Lifetime

Sat, 19 Mar 2011 21:31:20 -0000

Louis - My blogging in recent months has been hampered by a lack of time (but still reading yours :). On many occasions, I've been tempted to write "Is it time for < > to take the money and run?" Digg was one of several on that list. Although Kevin did OK, no doubt many of the employees of Digg didn't. The other side is even more interesting. The companies that are buying these companies. How many have actually worked out? Not many. How much money was poured into a sink hole ? Lots. I'm thinking Arrington grabbed the cash at the right time but have very serious reservations about the new AOL/HuffPo combo. For now, at least for me, HuffPo is probably a stronger brand. I don't think any of us would have imagined that just a few years ago. Things just keep moving faster. Simply fascinating. There ... I blogged ... on your blog :)

Re: Why I was wrong about Quora as a blogging service …

Tue, 01 Feb 2011 00:23:50 -0000

Robert - I think Francine (Hardaway) is right on here. When Quora debuted,. I thought it was the greatest thing since chicken soup. I hesitated ... and became a 'fly on the wall' there .... which was fun and interesting (AND educational). Why hesitate? What I call Friendfeed syndrome. You, I and many, many others considered Friendfeed the best thing to happen to 'social networking' in a long time. The idea (and controls) were brilliant. The community smart ... very smart. I found myself logging in before I checked my e-mail. Many of us became unpaid evangelists. Facebook buys it. The service goes on but changes .. never to be the same again. I understand your enthusiasm and evangelism but getting carried away positively has it's downsides. Then again, I'd like to meet the person that really knows where any of this is going and only know a tiny amount of VCs that can actually put a realistic number on any of these products over the long haul. The rules have changed. We all need to take a deep breath and realize it
