Glad the talk made you think!  I've definitely considered some of the issues you describe.  I have little doubt much of what I talked about will be technically possible, eventually.

I think some of what you describe, however, is an important part that I didn't get to touch on -- namely, opting in to a type of data collection that goes well beyond what's currently being shared on social media sites.

Regarding monetization, that's one reason I ended my talk in such an open-ended way -- I'm not even sure yet how I feel about businesses being built around the scenario I describe at the end.  Some people mean it when they say they'd pay anything to "bring a loved one back" and although this isn't *quite* that, I do think it could be exploited for commercial gain.

Thanks for the post Adrian.  I agree that people's tendency to self-edit in the current social media could create a challenge.

But when you also think about how much multimedia content will explode -- and real-time multimedia content like live video -- in our lifetimes, I think it'll give technology a much more realistic footprint to analyze.

Obviously much needs to happen between here and there (and people *would* need to opt-in to a much more open type of data storing) but I do think what I suggest will ultimately possible, but not necessarily the outcome we want (which I why I ended on a question!).

I think we hit both the positive and negative in the MSFT report -- obviously our coverage focuses more on the online, so that division is particularly notable when covering MSFT.
