BAYMAN, Coalman

Thu, 02 Jul 2009 14:27:55 GMT

Hi Dave, I just want to congratulate you on the marvelous story in the F&G Wildlife Journal about your life and how you got the name BAYMAN. I was at the F&G to bring my report of catches and saw the journal there and picked 1 up and read it . It's a wonderful story about yor life at bay. Now i know why you had me help you with the bait for d bugs as your "Master Baiter". th_icon_loll.gifHee hee. You spend all your time working ,going in the woods hunting etc., and on the water etc. Guess your home only to sleep. That was a nice write up about your life. Again CONGARATS. I am very happy to have met you as a friend and to teach me how to catch the river herring. As they say , take a kid fishing . As old as i am I feel like a kid that never grew up and enjoyed all the info u helped me with.Tks Image: http://www.marshmarauders.org/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif Thumbs up! Clap!. Armand

Pick up your trash!

Wed, 01 Jul 2009 23:07:55 GMT

I met our newest CO on the coast, Ron Arsenault today. He had one of my dad's lobster traps in his truck and we had a good chin wag. Last week Dad saw a F&G pickup tear out of a parking lot which overlooks the trestle and head out there pronto. We found out today he'd been doing surveillance and pinched three guys for littering!!!Clap! Happy birthday, Administrator; the scumbuckets had better watch their behavior when trespassing on our "marsh mother!" There's a new sherrif in townThumbs up!

Monomoy 6/30 report

Wed, 01 Jul 2009 13:12:25 GMT

Hit Monomoy yesterday at 0600.....pea soup fog but FAC........strange bite with huge pods of stiper/blue mixed pods feeding heavily at the surface and staying there. VERY sporadic bite casting right into the thick of them......then we noticed that they were feeding on what looked like tiny sand eels that must have just hatched.......the right fly would have slain them but they were not interested in the dead sand eels we had. Picked up a couple on sand eels and big eels on the bottom drift......but then I tossed an Atom and the game was on and we hammered 'em with plugs for the next couple of hours......all the same size 26-32" but a lot of fun.......probably 12-15 mid-size blues mixed in too. We even saw this bright, yellow thing in the sky for an hour or so.....but none of us could figure out what it was.:D

Happy B-Day Merrill!!!

Saturdays Adventure

Tue, 30 Jun 2009 02:58:44 GMT

Saturdays Adventure Capt'n JA, and I had been talking about going fishing. We decided Saturday to be the best (I use that term loosely this year). We met at slightly after 0500 owing to one of my cats leaving a gift on the floor minutes before my departure (these are the things you fix or you don't get to go fishing much). We decided on stripers to start. Capt'n JA dropped a drift line and I don't think it hit the bottom before a fish was on. The fog immediately closed in we made a few more drifts, but the fog and current got the best of us and we retreated to the inner harbor. One of my anchor holes that always produces only got two hits. The fog finally cleared (again a loose term) enough to get out of the channel. We headed for Capt'n JA's haddock grounds. There we found whitting but no haddock. We made some moves. the fog was not unbearable but kept you on the watch. The tide was nice. We made a mile drift with only whitting to show for it. We moved to an experimental site and only got a nibble. We moved to haddock flats. This produced a med-large red hake and a whitting, and I think a sculpine. The wind started up and we move half way into shore. We got over the cunner grounds and found a bunch of baby cod ( to 18"), turd and a stray mackerel or two, along with some cunner. we attempted to keep them live until we got back to the harbor. Mixed success with that but enough survived to make a go at the stripers again. So we have two live fish swimming around in shallow water, and a couple of clams on flounder poles. Happily killing green crabs one at a timeBashed up. Then my pole goes ripping off, it's a striper, but it's on the flounder pole, which had only a small hunk of clam. I'm in trouble, I've been meaning to reline that pole as it is my snagging pole and there is only about 50 yds of line left at best, and it's 8 lb, and the reels effed. 45 yds disappears in a puff of smoke and I prepare to lose the fishDown tha Shittah. Somehow the walk to the back of the boat gains a few precious feet of line, and Mr. striper decides to go sideways up stream. A few minutes later 24" comes in and makes for a good storybs.gif. So not the day we had hoped for but all in all a good day given the weather conditions. We learned some things, we caught 8 species of fish, and I got to meet another MM'er. We'll do it again on a sunny day ( if there ever is such a thing againangryfire.gif). Oddfish
