For this special exhibition, each item was carefully handpicked and described by Library and Archives Canada professionals, so visitors could learn more about why every single one represents a small but important piece of our nation’s heritage. Our collection represents the documentary heritage of all Canadians. It spans our history and continues to grow as Canada evolves. The new Premiere exhibition offers a sneak peek at some eclectic collection items, including a manuscript of a play by important writer Jane Urquhart when she was a child, a design for a never-produced prototype of the ill-fated Arrow airplane, and a book from the 1700s dealing with a mysterious (at the time) illness now thought to have been a form of syphilis. Together with the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association, the Ottawa Community Housing - OCH and the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation the Austrian Embassy is bringing the travelling exhibit "Gemeinde baut. Vienna social housing 1920 to 2020" to Ottawa. This Viennese exhibit is a multimedia display detailing the importance of social housing in Vienna. As a successful social housing model it has been recognized internationally and allows Canadians the unique opportunity to learn from an industry leader. With over one in four residents of Vienna (Stadt Wien) living in affordable housing, Vienna has set a global standard for supporting social housing development. The Independent Filmmakers Co-operative of Ottawa Inc. (IFCO) will be hosting a one-time screening of new Super 8mm and 16mm short films as part of “CELLULOID DREAMZ” – their annual filmmakers’ showcase at the Arts Court Theatre (#2 Daly Ave. – #240) on Saturday, April 28th at 7:00 PM (doors open at 6:00 PM). “CELLULOID DREAMZ” brings to the screen all of the hard work, effort and dreams that go into making a film. Thirteen Stings presents “The Subject is Light” A special collaboration with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind bringing elements of theatre, concert music, and sight together 1718 – 1918 - 2018 Friday, May 4 at 7:30 pm, 2018 Dominion-Chalmers United Church Chamber orchestra Thirteen Strings, under the direction of Kevin Mallon, is delighted to announce that Bach and Handel will finally get to meet each other in person on Friday May 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Dominion-Chalmers. These great composers will share the same stage for the first time in the guise of two actors. Music repertoire includes Bach Brandenburg Concerto # 3 and #5, and Handel’s Concerto Grosso #4. Enhancing this evening’s “The Subject is Light” theme is the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the founding of The Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
