Today's relatively balanced IoS article (judged by their recent standards) :
"Cannabis experts lash out at ministers for ignoring advice", perpetuates the 500 admissions a week distortion.

In a period where cannabis consumption was known to be falling, it was always going to be highly unlikely that there was an actual increase in hospital admissions.

One prohibitionist scam in the US inflated cannabis-related admissions by counting all mentions of the drug, even where this was not the primary reason for the admission.

They also claimed that the numbers receiving treatment for cannabis addiction were soaring, whilst neglecting to mention that "offenders" were being offered treatment as an alternative to imprisonment or other punishment.

We're in the grip of the most dishonest bout of reefer madness since the original. Demonisation is the name of the game. Current policies have demonstrably failed, but the prohibitionists want to convince us that if we could just get really tough on drugs, like Singapore, then this scourge could be defeated.
