Oh - the big time for the ever youthful Mr. Green. Although better than I could do for my client on radio Ipswich...hey ho.

P.S. I think at least one of those anonymous posts is from a Tech.co.uk journalist...I claim my £5!

no, i don't think it is every journalists job to report on every single rumour they hear, but they're entitled to discuss a point if they find it of interest - i don't think you would question a blogger had they written on the subject so why question a journalist writing for an online tech website? Also, you can never be too sure when a rumour from Apple might just be true, despite what the CEO says.

is it journalism's job to dispel every single rumour then? When it's blatantly obvious from the CEO of Apple that it's not true? Surely editorial judgement is another aspect? sorry to ruin the story

maybe you didn't miss the point TWL, but it looks as though a few others did...! Sorry to ruin story.

No, we didn't miss the point...but the point ruins a funny little story.

Spoilsport.

i actually think that you're missing the point as they were clearly reporting on a rumour that had been posted on the web. So surely they were in the right to report this story against the rumour itself.

Truly, the iPhone is the Paris Hilton of gadgets. Although I wouldn't say no to owning an iPhone, you understand. Ahem.

I got in yesterday morning and checked the IDG news service, our internal news feed. Of the 20 most recent items, 14 were about the iPhone launch - including one that said "Tech media conquered by iPhone". That's great, give something saturation coverage and that coverage generates its own news story... and so on.

Today was slightly better, only seven out of 20 stories were iPhone related, still that's not bad for a launch four days ago.

yep a simple search back a few months to when Jobs launched it and you'll clearly find the statement from the CEO: "No launch til Autumn 07 in Europe." But hey why do any research?
