"Trading as a sniper" or as poker players would put it, being tight-aggressive. Which according to most pros is the best style/tactic of play there is in poker.

Dr. Steenbarger,

very good points, but do you really need this awful sniper comparison? Sorry, to me it seems so strange that someone like you likes to look all day long at a hidden killer in the field (who in the end is nothing more than cannon/bombing fodder).

Cheers,
Markus

Hello Brett, I can relate to these points, as a I was in a slump for a week, not a winning day all week, not a major catastrophe but a poor week executing. I found myself chopped up in the afternoon session and then missing big, asymetrical opportunities. The single biggest achivement that I was able to accomplish during that time, (albeit it took a week) to step away for 4 days. During that time I engaged in other activites and thought about the mistakes, thought about fundementals, and when I went back, broke the losing streak with a refreshed spirit. Upon reflection during that break, I noticed that the more I lost the more I traded, of course with mediocre results. Early in my trading days, it would have been very hard if not impossible to stop and reflect. I think that is a critical accomplishment one can only achieve with the help of trading physcology, the ability to step away and the ability to realize that youi lost your edge. Thanks to you agian for enabling me in that area! Best, Steve
