The Sweet Stitchin' Betties

Just another group of knitting and crocheting glamour gals in South Florida

Sweet Stitchin' Betties Ornament Exchange!

Our first ornament exchange! Also, tonight we collected dozens of handmade ornaments to brighten up the holidays of military servicemen & women. They will be distributed by the Ships Project. A little holiday spirit in October!

Inspired by Bob, the Ravelry mascot, the Sweet Stitchin' Betties recently donated handmade knit & crocheted pet blankets to the Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida. Look at some of these cuties!

Sweet Stitchin' Betties celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day on Saturday, June 12 from 10am-2 pm!

Location: West Regional Library Lobby 8601 W Broward, Plantation FL 33324

Join us for knitting, crocheting, crafting, and snacks! Enjoy spinning demonstrations from local spinners, swap yarn, make new friends, and much more. We'll have Dr. Alexis Bergan-Guzman on hand with super tips and demonstrations especially for crafters. Fun for all ages.

Please bring:
Your projects! We're going to have a "stash trade" so bring any yarn you want to destash and go home with some new ones!

July 2010 will mark our 5th year as friends-- over 1,000 items made by us for our communities, 187 Ravelry members, and probably thousands of cups of coffee consumed together! :D I’m so happy about the community and friendships we have made. Thanks to all of you for everything.

To celebrate, we’ve gone to restaurants in the past on a set Monday night in July, whatever we all vote on. This is always fun BUT it’s hard to talk to everyone in a restaurant-- it can be loud and difficult to move around!

With that in mind, several folks have come up with the suggestion to rent a meeting space in a local park for a potluck celebration. I think a place that has indoor & outdoor facilities is best for July. For example, Central Park (Plantation) has a really nice private room we could have for $45 per hour-- and I will put the security deposit down so there’s no worries on that end.

It’s way cheaper than a restaurant if everyone kicks in for the rental fee and can bring a dish to share. And there will be more opportunities for socializing than at a restaurant-- and knitting/crocheting, of course!

Please join in the discussion on our Ravelry group-- your opinion counts!

Meeting at Havana Coffee Company next week

The Roasted Bean, our stomping grounds for almost 4 years, went out of business unexpectedly yesterday. We are going to regroup at the Havana Coffee Company until we decide on a permanent new location. Please join us!

Saturday, June 13th, 10 am - 2 pm

Join local knitters and crocheters at the 2009 WWKIP Day at the West Regional Library, 8601 W Broward, Plantation FL 33324.

Join us in the library lobby at the West Regional Public Library, 8601 W Broward Blvd. Free parking in the library parking lots and county public garage; on the bus line. Browse books, chat, and possibly learn some new techniques!

Please bring:
Yourself, friends, and family! We're cool and fun and INSIDE with the joyful resources of the library within reach! Wheelchair accessible. Restrooms. All ages, stages, and folks welcome!

The backup plan is:
We're inside -- so rain or shine (or, as we usually have in summer, rain AND shine), we'll be there! Because it is Hurricane Season, if there is a storm warning or storm conditions, and county buildings are closed, please be safe and stitch in a secure location.

Charity Blanket/Habitat for Humanity

Check it out! This blanket was knit and crocheted by the Betties to donate to Habitat for Humanity in Florida. Here's some great shots of the "seaming party" we had Saturday to put it all together! Thanks to everyone for contributing and for all their hard work!

blanket for Women in Distress

That's a lot of squares! These were all knit or crocheted by Betties to donate to the Women in Distress shelter. It's a wonderful, colorful, snuggly blanket! Thanks so much to everyone who contributed squares and to Carol for crocheting it all together!

The Betties have been busy knitting for the cure this summer! Check out all the handknit goods we put together for Team Vie's online auction! Team Vie is walking in the Michigan Breast Cancer 3-day walk. We're the cheering section for our Midwest Bettie Sandy Matuseski, who is participating in the walk. All money raised benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
So check out the sweet deals at the auction, buy a handknit Bettie item for yourself, and help fund the cure!

It's not all about the presents....

But they were a special part of our 3rd anniversary party. And look what else. . . .

All very cool information-- just how are the Betties involved? Many of our members are also Browncoats, and will be knitting itty bitty Jayne hats to sell for charity. You can order yours now on the website Shiny!
