I look at Twitter being similar to FaceBook or Gtalk status messages. Google Reader sharing is similar to del.icio.us. FriendFeed to me seems more like Reddit — the value is the discussion, not just the posting. Whereas Reddit is global, FriendFeed is local to my social graph.

Completely different experience than Google Reader, IMO... I never got around using a traditional feed reader even when I tried before, but I am a regular user of Friendfeed now.

I just popped the friendfeed gadget on my facebook page and never logged back in.

Mind you it's nice to have a place that reminds what I am "on" (much like MyBlogLog) ... apart from that, it's a deluge with no apparent benefit to me but seemingly loads to FriendFeed

Technically it can be done in reader the way you describe, but I think FriendFeed's presentation and packaging are much nicer to work with compared to handling everything as generic RSS feeds. I also like the imaginary friend option, which gives you a way to monitor friends who don't want to sign up for an account.
