Hello & How Are You Dear Blog Friends?

Sun, 22 Oct 2017 04:31:00 +0000

Happy Sunday My Friends!  Just popping in to let you know I'm thinking of you Blog Friends.  I figured it’s about time I stopped all this thinking about you and do something about it.I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend so far, and I hope tomorrow is even better. How are you? How is the family? I hope everyone is well and that everything is going okay. We are all well here, in good health.  That is always a blessing!  As usual, there is a lot going on here.  But I refuse to go into that, it is just too mind boggling. All in all, everything is going as well as can be expected.Mama is with me. She’s been here a little over a month. My brother had surgery so she’ll be here until he’s back on his feet again. She is doing well health wise. That’s a huge blessing, Thank God for that! Grandson Jace, is growing like a California wild fire as usual. He is almost up to my chin now, that’s not very far to reach though. I’m only a tad bit over 5 feet tall. He is on the Soccer team at school, 2nd - 5th graders. Yaaa, another BLESSING! That means he’s outgrown his allergy to grass and dirt. GOD IS SO GOOD!!!Jace's 1st Soccer Game: VideoFriday October 13th was my birthday. I made the BIG 71. It was a good day, nice and quiet. PaPa dellgirl made me a special birthday dinner. That was a nice treat, I enjoyed every delicious bite of it.  Jace and Mama sung the Happy Birthday song to me as Jace performed a happy dance along with the tune. He is such a little character, sort of dramatic like his MiMi. That was a big smile maker.Well, let me stop babbling, I only wanted to say a quick hello and let you know I'm thinking of you. Happy Sunday everyone! Wishing you well ...Until next time,[...]

1st Day of School 2017

Sat, 16 Sep 2017 03:02:00 +0000

Jace Goes to School 2017Tuesday September 12, 2017 we celebrate another milestone in the life of Grandson Jace, his first day of school as a second grader. Another year, another BLESSING! What a long way we’ve come. Many of his health issues and other problems are gone but not forgotten.  They’re logged away in my book of “Thank you GOD for bringing us through the struggles and challenges up to this present time!”Grandson and his mommy no longer live with me, so I didn’t see him off to school this year. I woke up earlier than usual though, couldn’t stop thinking about Jace going to school. Around 11:30 am, my daughter texted me to check my email, she’d sent me something. I did. Photos and a video of Jace making his way to class brought the biggest grin to my face! I smiled, giggled, and laughed OUT LOUD as Jordyn followed Jace with her camera from the car to class. Made My Day!!! These photos and video are just what I needed, exactly what I wanted. Each frame of the video tugs at my heart, thinking of how truly blessed we are to see and celebrate this day.  He makes his way down the hall, ready to tackle whatever lies ahead. My heart melts again as he begins another journey, another blessed milestone in his life. His journey to 2nd grade is a blessing to behold, Thank you GOD! Jace's Journey to 2nd GradeI made it to the end of the video without tearing up, thankfully. However, when I closed the video my computer returned to my home screen. The emotional dam almost broke wide open. I felt the tears welling up in my eyes, my heart skipped several beats, and my breath came in short quick gasps. Looking back at me was my screensaver photo of Jace at 14 months old with that big beautiful, heart-melting smile of his. I was about to lose it and start boo-hooing tears of joy all over the place.  ScreenSaver Photo: Jace 14 months oldI shook it off and reminded myself that I promised not to do that. This is GOOD! I’ve vowed to remember the blessing God has granted us. I promised myself to celebrate the milestones and achievements joyfully. And, that’s exactly what I did. I kept the emotions and tears at bay then said a prayer of Thanksgiving. Thank God for blessing us to celebrate Jace’s first Day of 2nd Grade, another amazing milestone.[...]

He Tarzan, Me Jane

Tue, 12 Sep 2017 00:46:00 +0000

One Wednesday night in the back yard, a slight rustling in the near distance caught Tarzan and Jane's attention. Me, Jane, aimed my flashlight toward the sound but saw nothing.Curiously we searched for the source of the noise and found two beady little eyes shining back at us from high in the branches of the tree. [Me] Jane: “What in the world is it?” [Hubby] Tarzan: “Dun-no, think it's a 'possom.”"Quick, quick go get the cage. I'll keep him from getting away," Tarzan shouted excitedly. I moved two rpm's faster than my regular slow-but-steady stride. I grabbed the cage and returned to find Tarzan gleefully speculating as to what kind of animal it was. Was it a 'coon, a 'possom, or maybe it was a plain old squirrel.  Either way, we had plans for that rascal. "What kind of food can we put in there to tempt him to go in? Oh I know, you got any sardines?" asked Tarzan. "Yea, I have sardines," I answered over my shoulder as I started inside to get them. We placed the open can of sardines inside the cage, set the trap, locked the gate to the back yard and headed inside to settle down for the night. Quite a bit of conversation that little critter stirred among the group that night. Baby son (grown) was here to spend the night with us. Yaaaa!  Thursday morning, at the sinfully early hour of 6:45 am, Tarzan and baby son checked the cage.  Tarzan was beside himself, grinning from ear to ear like the proverbial cat that swallowed the canary as he 'dared' to wake me from a sound sleep. He asked, "Wanna come see what we caught?" NO, I didn't want to get up, but I did. Uggghhh, it was the only way I might possibly be able to go back to sleep - if I humored him/them. I stumbled from the bedroom through the house like a dried-up mummy, grumpy face and all. On the front porch sat the cage holding, not a possum, not a coon, but a blackish colored kitty cat. Pretty little thing he was! Huddled in a corner of the cage, he had one foot resting in the empty sardine can. Oooooh (I thought), he's so cute! As I stepped closer he hissed and growled twisting and thrusting like a wild crazy thing. I quickly backed away, that changed my mind about how cute he was.  Tarzan took the kitty to the humane society. They inspected it and said it was wild and would have to be put to sleep. Oh, that's too bad, he was kind of cute. Tarzan brought the cage back and we re-set the trap with more sardines to see what we'd catch next. The next morning I checked the cage, and lo-and-behold, what did I find? A possum! This little bugger wasn’t cute, not by long shot.  Oh well, I wonder how many more critters we'll catch before we tire of the Tarzan & Jane routine and find something more productive to do with our time. I wonder too if we'll ever catch that elusive coon we’re always speculating about.Right now, I'm waiting for the male people to come home and take this one to the humane society. The humane society staff said they take possoms and coons. Yaaa, now we don't have to hurt them!Have you ever heard of such a thing happening right in your own back yard? Do you catch and release them? Or do you feed them and let them roam about and go their merry way? Image SourceImage #2Image #3[...]

Where In the World Are You?

Wed, 06 Sep 2017 01:08:00 +0000

Houston, Texas

Photo taken before Hurricane Harvey.

Really, where are you? Where in the world are you located? We, your friends, would like to know. Why am I being a nosey-rosey, getting all up in your business, asking you where you live?

After Hurricane Harvey a friend wished me well and sent prayers for me and the family. She also said she had no idea I lived in Houston. That started me thinking, I don’t know where many of my Blog Friends live either. I suppose I could check everyone’s profile page.  So, let’s do this instead.

Leave a comment and let us know where you are. We’d appreciate knowing where our Blog Friends are in the world.

Me, Dellgirl? I live in Houston, Texas. Where do you live?

Hurricane Harvey

Tue, 29 Aug 2017 22:58:00 +0000

Thank You for Your Prayers During Hurricane Harvey! Please continue to pray for us as we deal with the aftermath of Harvey's damages. I watched apprehensively as rain poured from the sky, the street in front of my house was completely covered within minutes. I moved steadily around the house and storage room gathering my already prepared “Hurricane Supplies”. Every so often I’d look outside to see what the weather was doing. Hurricane Harvey continued to drench everything in sight. Strong winds bent some trees almost in half and sent debris flying in all directions. I continued collecting hurricane supplies so they would be handy in case of a power outage. Harvey ravaged on outside while I prepared for the unknown inside. Preparing for Hurricane Harvey:Propane Generator at the ready!Propane Tanks ready to fuel the generator.Batteries, flashlights, candles, etc. are ready and handy in bedroom.Clothes, shoes, purse, and personal care items are ready, waiting by the door. The only thing left to do is to wait and PRAY! [...]

ICE: 'In Case of Emergency'

Mon, 17 Jul 2017 20:51:00 +0000

This information could literally save your life!Apparently this is a standard procedure all paramedics follow at the scene of an accident when they come across your cell phone.ICE - 'In Case of Emergency' We all carry our mobile phones with names and numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' -In Case of Emergency- Campaign. The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell/mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' - In Case Of Emergency. The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE.'For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference! Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today! Please share this. It won't take too many 'Shares' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.ICE will speak for you when you are not able to.[...]

Television Commercials – Love Them or Hate Them

Mon, 10 Jul 2017 03:50:00 +0000

I just finished watching the commercial where the singing group Boyz II Men, are singing about the terrible side-effects of a prescription medicine and about GEICO. I LOVE that commercial, the singing gets me every time. Those boys can sing up a storm! That started me thinking about television commercials that I LOVE and also commercials that I absolutely HATE.                                                                                                                 Some commercials are truly hysterical, they really “crack-me-up”. I laugh, out loud, every time I see or hear them anyway. They are just that funny. Geico’s commercial about, “Words Really CAN Hurt You”, is one. That is a seriously hilarious commercial.                                                                                                    There are other commercials that I find mildly amusing, they don’t do much of anything for me. Sometimes I sit through the entire commercial. Sometimes I move around doing something else while they are on, not really paying much attention to them. On the other hand, some commercials absolutely annoy the heck out of me. It starts out as mildly annoying. After hearing the commercial three or more times, it becomes very annoying. I can hardly bear to listen to it anymore. At some point, I can’t stand the annoyance another second, so I change the channel. Every other time after that, I hit the “Last” button on the remote control the minute the commercial appears on the screen. I hate annoying commercials. There you have it, my rant about television commercials. Are there commercials that annoy you? Name one. What do you do when they come on television? Are there commercials that you like or love? Name one. We’d love to hear about it. Image source [...]

Invasion of Privacy

Sun, 25 Jun 2017 02:45:00 +0000

Oh Boy, not again! Here comes ~dellgirl~ with her little red camera. She’s ready to start following me around, taking pictures of my every move. She already got one photo of me sitting on the fence down the way. I hoped that would satisfy her and she would go bother somebody else. But, NO! Here she comes again. The squirrels don’t mind her taking their pictures, they’re too busy jumping and playing around to notice her or to even care. Larry the lizard lets her shoot him without running away sometimes. Why doesn’t she go find them and leave me alone!I have moved further along on the fence trying to hide behind the tree. And, there she is, snapping away again. I even flew into the branches of this tree thinking I would hide from ~dellgirl~ and her camera.  It’s not working, there she is again. Every time I move, she moves.Okay, now this is better. I know she can’t see me off in here. I am pretty well hidden. Can you see me? Do you think ~dellgirl~ can see me? What are your thoughts on this constant invasion of my privacy?[...]

Handbag How-To - - for Guys Also

Wed, 07 Jun 2017 01:42:00 +0000

A while back I received this email about women sitting their purses on floors in public toilets, in cars, on the ground, etc. It also presented statistics on the amount of germs and bacteria purses contain afterwards. It was disgusting! The email strongly warned against putting your purse on any surface when you are away from home. That handbag story was so-o-o-o-o "eye-opening and upsetting"! I immediately grabbed my wire cutters, a white coat hanger (they're softer), and pliers and got busy. I even left my computer running while I did the following. I will never be caught putting my purse down anywhere - EVER - again! SO!This is how I solved the problem (below). Guys, you can do this for your lady. She’ll be happily surprised and thankful. 1. Cut a piece of wire from the coat hanger about 6 - 7 inches long with the wire cutters.2. Bend the cut piece of wire into an "S" shape with the pliers. That’s it!3. Ladies, keep this "s" hook in your purse. When you find yourself in a public toilet you can hang this up and hang your purse on it. There you have it, NO MORE GERMS ON YOUR HANDBAGS.© 2008 by Leona G. Shankle - All Rights Reserved  ~dellgirl~Image source[...]

How the Fight Started

Tue, 23 May 2017 02:13:00 +0000

(image)

After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security.
The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age.

I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later.

The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair.

She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me'. And she processed my Social Security application.

When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office!

She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten Disability, too'

And that’s how the fight started.....

A Special Thank You!

Wed, 10 May 2017 23:54:00 +0000

A Thank You from Grandson, Jace!

How do you thank someone who has happily surprised the dickens out of you? What can you say that doesn’t come off as trite or cliché? Sometimes you can’t. So with that in mind, I’ll try to get to the point, pronto.

Grandson, Jace, made a video a while back and instructed me to spread the word and make it go viral. Like the good MiMi that I am, I posted the video. I included Jace’s request for Likes, comments, Subscribers to his Youtube channel, AND Shares. I’m Laughing Out LOUD…again… at that from a 7 year old.

I want to say a big THANK YOU to, AnthonyGodinho, RhapsodyPhoenix, Erica wagner, and MarianShankle for your support. Your surprise visits to Jace’s video were awesome!

Jace and I were grinning from ear-to-ear when we saw your Likes and Comments. We were like kids under the tree on Christmas morning. I don’t know which one of us was more excited. Thank you guys!

I want you to know how grateful I am that you took the time to visit Jace’s video. We really appreciate your participation on it.  Your visit and your support made Jace a happy little camper! Jace says, "Thank You All!"

Thank you all for helping him with his “Let’s Go to Sky Zone” video. You Guys Rock!

Throw Yourself into Your Work

Sun, 30 Apr 2017 03:22:00 +0000

You must throw yourself into your work in order to be the best at what you do. If you are not fully passionate about what you are doing, your work will be drab and lackluster. If you want your work to stand out and be a cut above everyone else in your particular field, throw yourself into your work.

When you are fully engaged in your project, no matter what it is, your passion will shine through. Dive deep into your soul and find your inner child, let that inner child be the drive behind your desire. Throw yourself into your work and watch the difference in the work you produce.

You will be known all over the world as the pioneer of a new movement to throw yourself into yourself into your work.

My grandson, Jace, has paved the way for us. Trailblazer that he is, he shows us rather than try to tell us, exactly HOW to throw yourself into your work.

Here, he shares his technique for anyone who needs help learning how to throw yourself into your work.

Do you know anyone who throws him/her self into their work? Have you ever thrown yourself into a project you were working on?

What do you think of Jace’s innovative idea of throwing himself into his ART work?

April

Sun, 09 Apr 2017 04:33:00 +0000

(image)
Did you know that April starts on the same day of the week as July every year, and the same day of the week as January in leap years? Something else I didn’t know is that April ends on the same day of the week as December every year.

April is National Poetry Month, a celebration of poetry. It was first introduced in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets as a way to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the United States. April 1st is also April Fool’s Day, and I’m not sure if the Academy of American Poets realized that when they introduced National Poetry Month back in 1996, but it’s the kind of irony that poets would appreciate.

April 1st brings thoughts of spring what with trees and flowers blooming all over and birds chirping and singing outside my bedroom window early every morning. The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. It seems like spring here already in my little corner of the world, Houston, Texas.

It’s not too hot, too cold, too rainy, too sunny, not too dry, or too wet it’s just perfect – for me anyway. So I call it springtime, whether it’s officially spring or not.
One thing’s for sure, I’d better enjoy these perfectly beautiful days while they last because it’ll be over before we know it. Actually here in Houston, tomorrow it just might be freezing cold and I'll need to turn the heaters on. That's how it goes around here.

Oh, just a few more April tidbits FYI.

April 16th is Easter Sunday.
April 18th is TAX Day. Now, why is that? Could it be because April 15th falls on a Saturday this year and Saturday is not a Business Day?
April 22nd is Earth Day.

There you have it, my rambling thoughts on April and Spring time.

What is the weather like in your part of the country? Where are you? Some people are still having snow. Is that you? Do you like it? Or are you getting a touch of spring?

REAL Political Spin

Sun, 26 Mar 2017 20:05:00 +0000

This is not your average political post, I'm not into politics. If you feel like reading further, you'll understand what I mean. Some things just depend on how you look at them...Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California , was doing some personal work on her own family tree.. She discovered that Senator Harry Reid's great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. Both Judy and Harry Reid share this common ancestor. The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows  in Montana territory: On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription: 'Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.' So Judy recently e-mailed Senator Harry Reid for information about their great-great uncle. Senator Harry Reid: Believe it or not, Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research: "Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory . His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed." NOW THAT's how it's done, Folks...  That's real POLITICAL SPIN!DISCLAIMER: This is an email I received from a friend several years ago with the ... pass this on to 800 people thing on it. Don't know if this is true or false. I just found it humorous in light of today's political climate and thought I'd pass it along for others to get a chuckle or two. [...]

Save Money Using Facebook & Twitter

Wed, 15 Mar 2017 04:30:00 +0000

I read somewhere that you can save money using Facebook and Twitter. My first thought was, “yea, right” … like that’s going to happen. Then I read the entire article. It made a lot of sense, I learned a lot from it.

The first thing I learned was that my Facebook news feed sometimes contains great sales promoted by companies that I love and that I use frequently. The article stated that I should follow the company (itself) or follow the company's Facebook page to get updates, offers, and/or coupons.

This was news to me! I had always purposely NOT followed companies or product pages since joining Facebook. The idea had me hooked, I had to read on. I would not have thought of this on my own.

The article also advised searching the company’s Twitter feed. Sometimes they offer coupons for additional discounts on purchases. What a great tip! Before I read this, I had not been able to see any benefits from using Facebook or Twitter. Now I do, this is really cool.

I have also read other articles explaining how to use Facebook to save money.

Do you use Facebook or Twitter? Do you use them to shop? Have you ever used them to save money? How do you use FaceBook and Twitter?

What Is Your Writing Style?

Mon, 06 Mar 2017 03:03:00 +0000

Photo © by dellgirl     Writing style and writing voice are what separates good writing from great writing. Likewise, writing style and writing voice separate good blogs from great blogs. Although writing voice and writing style have a lot in common they are not the same thing. The difference between great writing and mediocre writing is - individual style.   What is writing style? Writing style is not always easy to define. It is something that cannot be taught, you either have it or you don't. Writing Style is a product of our ability to learn by reading and listening to people talk. Our writing style is simply the way we construct a sentence and the way we put sentences together.  Your writing style is not what you say but howyou say it.Many of us are already writing and have no idea what our writing style is. Some of us are not even aware that we have a writing style. No problem, because perhaps ironically, the best writing style is invisible.  Developing your writing style is important to your becoming a good writer. If you try to write the way other people write, to duplicate their success, you may find that you are unable to imitate it. That is simply because you have a different style of writing than they do.  Don't copy a writing style from another writer. Write to make your style your own.  Think of it this way, "A man's style in any art should be like his attire - it should attract as little attention as possible.” It is apparent that the writing style is simple and informal.  Photo © by dellgirlThe best writing style is the one that is apparent to the reader, although the meaning of the term writing style might somehow escape the writer. With that in mind, writers should simply write. Your writing style will make itself known in the way you construct sentences and more so in the way you put sentences together. Say what you have to say – your way. That is your unique writing style. What is your writing style? Do you know what your writing style is? How would you find it? [...]

Healthy Snack for Kids with Multiple Allergies

Sun, 19 Feb 2017 00:08:00 +0000

My grandson was born prematurely with multiple health issues, so many I can’t name them all. He was born allergic to 13+ food items, including dairy, wheat, gluten, soy, and many more. At the top of the list of foods he was/is allergic to, is peanuts. YES, he had the DEADLY PEANUT ALLERGY. We could not even have nuts in the house. But, I digress here. Let me get back on track.Needless to say, his diet was severely limited. Grandson was about two and a half or three years old at the time and there was not much he could eat. With that in mind, my daughter went into research mode looking for a healthy snack for Grandson. During her research, she found these Harvest Snaps Snapea Crisps. The Snapea Crisps did not contain anything that he was allergic to. She bought them, and the rest is history! She introduced them to Grandson, and he fell in love with them immediately. From that point on, she could barely keep up with the demand because he ate them as fast as she could buy them. He calls them “Green Beans”. So, around our house they are officially known as “Green Beans”.The #1 and best thing about these Snapea Crisps/Green Beans is that my grandson with his multitude of allergies could safely eat them. The next thing I love about these green bean crisps is that they are baked instead of fried. They only have a tiny hint of salt. AND, they are delicious. We give grandson a few at a time in a bowl and he is munching almost before we can let go of the bowl. *NOTE: He insists on having a wet wipe along with his green beans, for his hands. Another great thing about these green beans is that they are a healthy alternative to regular potato chips. You get that same chewy crunch as potato chips with these green beans. They are crisp, like the name says and they are also very light. On the downside, I find them to be a bit pricey. But, who am I to complain about the price? I have not had to buy a single bag…ever. His mommy buys them. Even with the price, these green beans are worth the price so that my highly allergic grandson can have a healthy snack. For anyone interested in a healthy snack for kids with allergies, try these Snapea Crisps. You’ll be happily surprised. DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a doctor, just a grandmother. Check with your doctor before feeding this product to your allergic child. Also, check the ingredients list for yourself for anything your child might be allergic to. [...]

Happy Valentine's Day!

No Words Needed

So Thankful Saturday

Sat, 11 Feb 2017 23:40:00 +0000

Tonight I sit staring at my blank page, too tired to string together enough words to make a post. Too mentally exhausted to look at a picture and write a story about the day I captured that perfect shot, I stare at the page.

My mind wanders back and forth through days, weeks, months, and years of struggles, challenges, and family illnesses that wreaked havoc on my waning strength. As I journey back through the trials and tribulations I have endured to reach a better day, I marvel at God’s goodness.

Through it all, He has sustained me. I had no doubt that He would. My only prayer through the many dark nights of loved ones suffering was, “Lord, give them the strength to hold on until Your blessings become a reality to them.”

I had no doubt that all would be resolved and their mental and physical health would be restored. My prayer was that the loved ones could sit quietly and be ready when God’s healing became a reality to them. Weeks later, I feel the power of God’s blessings making its way into my loved ones’ state of mind. I’m Giving Mighty, Mighty Thanks for God’s Goodness.

For these and other blessings, Dear God, I give thanks to you. Amen.

If I Could Go Back

Mon, 06 Feb 2017 06:18:00 +0000

I have often heard people say they wish they could go back in time, that they would and they would change some things. I was a pretty smug young lady and, I thought the idea was absurd.I was always the one self-righteously proclaiming, “I don’t NEED to go back. I’m going to live my life so I won’t have any regrets. So, I definitely don’t need to go back”, I said loudly from my perch upon my mighty High-Horse.Life came along and gave me a good slap in the face, taught me a few things the hard way. That set me stumbling on a different path than the holier-than-thou path I had envisioned for myself. Okay, okay, okay. I cry “UNCLE”. I give! Can I go back? Can I change my mind? If I could change my mind, If I COULD go back, I would go in a heartbeat. I would change some things. As a matter of fact, I would change a whole LOT of things. For starters, I would…-Break some rules, especially some of those rules my mama had. I got beatings all the time anyway. So breaking those rules would only mean a few more beatings. Hahahaaaaa! -Speak up for myself more instead of always listening to other peoples’ points of view. -Party like crazy! I’d sneak out of the house at night and party instead of staying home like a “miss-goody-two-shoes”. I’d have some of that fun my friends laughed and talked about when grownups were not around. I’d get more beatings, but so what. I got more than my share of them without cause.  -Be more adventurous! Enough said about that. -I would be as WILD AS A DAT-GUMMED DEER!!!There now, I got that off my chest. Image source[...]

The Coffin A man is walking home alone late one foggy Halloween night, when behind him he hears: BUMP... BUMP... BUMP... Walking faster, he looks back and through the fog he makes out the image of an upright casket banging its way down the middle of the street toward him. BUMP... BUMP... BUMP... Terrified, the man begins to run toward his home, the casket bouncing quickly behind him. FASTER... FASTER... BUMP... BUMP... BUMP.... The man runs up to his door, fumbles with his keys, opens the door, rushes in, slams and locks the door behind him. However, the casket crashes through his door, with the lid of the casket clapping. clappity-BUMP...clappity-BUMP... clappity-BUMP... on his heels, as the terrified man runs. Rushing upstairs to the bathroom, he locks himself in. His heart is pounding; his head is reeling; his breath is coming in sobbing gasps. With a loud CRASH the casket breaks down the door. Bumping and clapping toward him. The man screams and reaches for something, anything...All he can find is a box of cough drops! Desperate, he throws the cough drops at the coffin ......and of course,...the COFFIN stops!   Image source[...]

How to Publish a Great Blog Post

Wed, 04 Jan 2017 05:02:00 +0000

Lately I have been visiting new blogs to interact with new people. An hour ago I clicked over to a new blog from a friend’s blog. The background was light pink with a slightly darker pink font color. Oops, this is not good (for me anyway). I tried to read the blog anyway so I could make friends with someone new.The blog post was very long. Paragraphs were each 6 to 8 inches of words, words, words. There were no intermittent paragraph breaks as far down as the eye could see.I am an older, notice I didn’t say OLD, person with imperfect eyesight. I find it hard to read posts because they are not divided into paragraphs. Many times a compelling title makes me TRY to read them, but it is so very hard to do. I often have to click away from the blog post because of this.  I am also a retired teacher who loves helping others. So the following information is offered as constructive assistance for anyone wanting to improve their writing. Directions for creating a great post:1.Type your first two or three sentences. 2.Hit the “enter/return” key two times. This will give you a space between your sentences, creating paragraphs.*NOTE: You will repeat this process throughout the entire post. Type two or three sentences. Then click the return key two times to leave a space. (Repetitious on purpose)When you compose and type your post leaving space between every two to three sentences, it will be easier to read and to understand. This will keep readers on your page longer. 3. Another good idea for an easier to read blog is to be careful with your background colors and font colors. Not all color mixtures make for easy reading. The wrong color mixture could cause some readers to leave your blog without reading it. Try these tips and you will love what you see.Is this information understandable? Did you find it helpful? Why? Why not? Do you have any tips to share with us? We’d love to hear them.Image source[...]
