2011-07-24T23:37:35.603-07:00By ChrisSat, Jul 23 2011 10:12 pm | 3100 views | 0 Comments After a gauntlet of recent hot, humid races, Washougal MX Park welcomed racers and fans alike with mild temperatures and giant shade trees. The racing has been nothing short of amazing this season, and the excitement continued this weekend at the southeastern Washington motocross facility.450 MOTO 1The hometown hero, Ryan Villopoto took the first holeshot of the day on his Monster Energy Kawasaki with Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki?s Ryan Dungey in tow. American Honda?s Trey Canard and Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGR?s Justin Brayton also took off with great starts. Villopoto worked to distance himself from Dungey, but after a few laps Dungey began clicking off faster laps, reeling the local hero in. The two frontrunners, however, soon pulled away from the rest of the field, including a third-place Canard. Points leader Chad Reed, meanwhile, battled through the middle of the pack after a terrible start. Tommy Hahn, Brett Metcalfe, and Andrew Short put in great rides to all finish strong.Dungey nearly caught Villopoto, but as he attempted the pass, he went down, leaving Villopoto to handle the lead by his lonesome. Villopoto soon regained ground on Dungey and came away with the win. Canard finished all by himself in third, showing that he is improving his fitness each day.RESULTS1. Ryan Villopoto2. Sadly, Trey Canard wadded up after he landed awkwardly from a vicious scrub and got tossed from the motorcycle.Ryan Dungey took full advantage of his second opportunity and took the holeshot. Villopoto slipped in right behind him with Reed in third. Just a few laps in, however, Brett Metcalfe found his way around Reed, who then had Brayton and Hahn to fend off. Dungey put the hammer down, finding new, quicker lines, and basically checked out. Villopoto finished a strong second, but forfeited the overall to Dungey. Metcalfe put in his beat showing of the season, and secured third place overall. Villopoto is the new red plate holder, but has only a one-point advantage.RESULTS1. Ryan Dungey2. Ryan Villopoto3. (image) Jorge Lorenzo admitted that he thought he would be ruled out of the United States Grand Prix when he crashed at the end of free practice at Laguna Seca this morning.
The Yamaha rider had just done a practice start on his way back to the pits when he was launched into a high side crash at Turn 5. The team felt the incident was due to traction control not being enabled – as on the Yamaha the system only comes on after a start once the bike downshifts.
Lorenzo initially struggled to get up after the violent accident, but eventually limped away with just pain in his hip, and was given medical clearance to continue riding for the rest of the weekend. He went on to dominate qualifying and take pole position.
“It was a very ugly crash this morning. When I hit the ground I was full of pain and I was thinking that the race was over for me,” said Lorenzo.
“Fortunately after some minutes the pain was going little by little. But to be in the first position is better than I expected.”
Though Lorenzo was still walking awkwardly after qualifying, he said the discomfort was not affecting his riding.
“On the bike I don’t feel so much pain, so I could go fast from the beginning and then make a very good lap time with the soft tyres. We are very proud of this result,” he said.

2011-07-24T23:37:35.604-07:00Top Stories Right Now Relates Stories What does professional motorcycle riding and cookery have in common? Well ? everything. Everyone has to eat! And if it?s true what they say; “you are what you eat”, then healthy eating must be the vital ingredient in success. In motorcycle racing winning is everything! But how many of the well-known successful motorcycle riders know how to russle up something nutritional (and tasty) in the kitchen, without biting into their busy training schedule? Well Yamaha are going to put their two World Superbike riders; Eugene Laverty and Marco Melandri, to the test and YOU can be the judge of their hidden talents. The next stop off on the 2011 World Superbike Championship calendar is Silverstone – U.K, weekend of the 29th ? 31st July and we have invited Jamie Oliver?s Ministry of Food to come along and pass on some of the tricks of the trade to create a nutritional, fast and above all tasty menu ahead of a hectic race weekend. Jamie Oliver has campaigned for many years to improve food in both schools and the home and in 2008, Jamie set up the Ministry of Food Centre to encourage people to get cooking from scratch again. The Ministry, whose first Centre opened in Rotherham following the Channel 4 TV series, ‘Jamie’s Ministry of Food’, proves that anyone can learn to cook, so long as they have the basic knowledge. Ministry of Food classes are fun and have so far inspired hundreds of local people to ditch ready meals and takeaways in favour of fresh, home-cooked food which saves them money as well as being better nutritionally. Can Jamie?s team of experts provide the vital ingredients to back Yamaha?s Eugene Laverty and Marco Melandri on their battle to the championship title? Come along, taste and decide for yourself! Eugene Laverty Yamaha World Superbike Team rider ?I am really looking forward to the cook-off with Jamie?s Ministry of Food. Jamie is an excellent chef and a few of his cooking tips certainly won?t go astray in my kitchen! Nutrition is obviously very important for everyone but for us riders it?s vital! All our hard work training prior to race weekends would be a complete waste without a healthy diet and if we want to be on top form on race day, we have to know how to eat properly. So the cook-off with Jamie?s team should be fun but I?m pretty sure it?ll also be an education!? Rizla Suzuki?s lvaro Bautista will have a one-off Troy Lee designed Shoei helmet at this weekend?s USGP at Laguna Seca, to show TLD?s and his support for the people of Japan following the tragedy there earlier this year.
This beautiful paint-scheme has been created by Troy Lee Designs? Japanese designer Maki Ushiroyama and features all the flags of the fourteen countries on the MotoGP calendar, with pride of place going to the Japanese ?Nissh?ki? or ?Hinomaru? ? as it is more commonly known ? on the top of the helmet. The colours of all nations is to represent the global support for Japan following the tragedy in March and an added message in Japanese translates as ?Ganbare Nippon?, which literally means ?Cheer up Japan, do your best and don’t give up!?
Bautista will wear the helmet for the first time during Saturday morning?s practice session at Laguna Seca and will continue to use the design for the rest of the weekend including Sunday?s 32-lap race. He will also use the helmet during the Indianapolis Grand Prix next month after which this unique helmet will be auctioned to raise funds in support of a Japanese charity. The full details of the auction and how you can bid on this amazing helmet will be released after the Indianapolis race.
Maki Ushiroyama ? Creative Director, Troy Lee Designs:
?As a Japanese person, and because we have many Japanese staff at Troy Lee, it was a great honour to do this design for lvaro to wear at Laguna in support of Japan. I really wanted to help my homeland and this is a great way to do it. I wanted to create something very cool that lvaro would like and also very tasteful to support all the people that were affected by this tragedy. I think we have succeeded in that because lvaro loves the design and I?m really pleased his reaction has been so positive! The graphic shows that all the 14 countries visited by MotoGP are supporting Japan, and I guess I can call the big red circle on top the heart of Japan!
?On one side is the American flag to represent the heart of Troy Lee Designs, the Laguna Seca Circuit and US Suzuki. On the front is the Spanish flag for lvaro’s heart and along the back the UK flag is there to represent the crew?s heart. Along with the team, TLD looks forward to auctioning this absolutely one-off helmet and aiding a charity back in Japan to help the people that need it most.?

2011-07-26T00:54:12.815-07:00A holiday to Greece is as good an excuse as any to stock up on some summer clothes. On my recent trip to Cork, I took a visit to A Wear, since I almost always find something there that I love. My first mission was to get a maxi dress. I have never worn one before but since everyone raves that they are so comfortable, so easy to wear and an easy way to do summer sophistication, I felt like this was something I had to tap into!I spotted this fuschia chiffon maxi dress in A Wear a mile off (it's actually by boutique brand, Miss Harvey). I love the colour and the floral design and it has the oh-so-handy elasticated section at the back which is a god send for bigger busted ladies like myself. I have real problems finding dresses that fit me properly because when it fits up top, it's too loose on my torso and vice versa. But with this stretchy section, I was able to buy a size 10 that fits perfectly. Also, the stretchy section makes the garment so much more comfortable. The knotted detail at the bust is also really flattering and I like that the dress doesn't show too much cleavage, making it perfect for daytime wear. The straps are detachable and can also be altered at the back. The waist is slightly dropped so it nips in at the smallest part of the body. It has moulded cups so you don't have to wear a bra and that gives it shape and more support if you want to wear it as a strapless dress. This makes the dress very slimming!I couldn't find this dress on the A Wear website but if you have a store local to you, then it's worth checking out!I had been looking for a cute white cotton summer dress and this one fit the bill perfectly. It's slightly retro with a 50's feel, it has a feminine bodice-style torso, it's the perfect length (about 2 inches above the knee), it has the cutest ruffles on it that don't make you look huge and it minimises the appearance of my chest. Could I ask for anything more?Once again it has the genius stretchy section at the back, adjustable straps and a decorative tie back. It's so easy to wear and the cotton fabric will be super cool in the summer heat of Greece! This dress is by A Wear and was £15 in their sale (down from £30) and you can buy it here.I loved this dress so much, I got the polka dot version too! This is the cutest summer dress ever and looks better on than it does on the hanger. It lends a 50's silhouette that really flatters curvier girls. This dress was also from A Wear and was £20 (down from £40) and you can buy it here.Next up is a dress from the boutique brand, Jasmine and this brand is also available in A Wear. I liked the Mediterranean feel to the pattern on the dress and once again, the fresh cotton is perfect for hot days. The cros over neckline is perfect to flatter a larger chest without showing obscene amounts of boobage! And there we have the stretchy back section again (praise the lord)...Once again, I couldn't find this dress on the A Wear website but you could try looking in your local store. I know they also stock Jasmine in various boutique stores around the count[...]
2011-07-24T23:37:35.605-07:00Press releases from the MotoGP teams after free practice and qualifying at Laguna Seca: Unfortunate End to Free Practice for Lorenzo 23/07/2011 This morning’s final free practice of the 2011 Grand Prix of U.S.A ended abruptly for Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo. The reigning world Champion had pulled up for a practice start midway round the track, having accelerated away into a left hand corner he suffered a huge high side. A subsequent check from the medical centre has cleared him as fit and approved to race. Ben Spies made another step forward in practice this morning, The Texan improved on yesterday, taking a step forward in set up but still looking for improvements in corner entry for his Yamaha YZR-M1. Jorge Lorenzo 3rd 1’21.855 “That isn’t how I planned to finish the free practice. I am not sure yet why I crashed, I need to take the video from Dorna and study it as I was not going that fast. Anyway I am very sore especially in my hip but happy to be uninjured and will still be there to give 100% in qualifying this afternoon. Apart from the crash the morning session was good, the bike still needs more going into the corners but we are getting there.” Ben Spies 5th 1’22.325 “We’ve definitely got more in the bike and we made a step in the right direction. I’m pretty happy; we set our fastest lap with a lot of laps on the tyres which is good. We definitely need to improve the front setting still. I can feel it in the bike; I definitely know the potential is there. The bike is definitely going to be better over race distance than it is over one lap but we have to improve that one lap speed. We found something right at the end of the session but we just weren’t able to try it.” Lorenzo secures pole for United States Grand Prix, under lap record Round 10: United States GP ? Qualifying Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Saturday 23 July 2011 Bridgestone slick compounds available: Front: Medium, Hard. Rear (asymmetric): Soft, Medium In a nail-biting end to the hour-long qualifying session, Jorge Lorenzo claimed pole position for tomorrow’s United States Grand Prix at Laguna Seca just 0.072seconds ahead of Casey Stoner. Both riders used a harder front and softer rear slick to post their best efforts on their last lap, and were the only two riders to beat the existing lap record. Dani Pedrosa completes the front row, setting his time also using the softer option rear slick, and the second row comprises Ben Spies who held provisional pole for a while, ahead of Marco Simoncelli and Andrea Dovizioso. This morning the track was much cooler than at the same time yesterday because of a thicker marine layer that took longer to burn off and for the sun to break through but still the laptimes were already faster than from FP2 as the track condition improved after the first day of running. By the afternoon the track had reached 45 degrees Celsius and, whilst many riders started on the harder option rear slicks, most of the fastest times at the end of the session came on the softer variant which worked well even with the high temperature. Whilst the h[...]
2011-07-24T23:37:35.605-07:00All three riders have struggled to find the perfect set up on their RC212V to tackle the Laguna Seca circuit, which demands a lot from both bike and rider. The early part of the session saw, Stoner, Pedrosa, Spies and Lorenzo trading fastest laps, with Lorenzo finally securing pole a mere seven hundredths faster that Stoner who’s first flying lap was affected by Spies’ crash and subsequent yellow flags. Pedrosa will be looking for one of his trademark fast starts and the long race on an uneven track surface will test the young Spaniard’s fitness to the maximum. Dovizioso, who shares the second row with Spies and Simoncelli, will fight to stay with the front group and will be aiming for a podium finish. Tomorrow morning’s warm up session will be important for all three riders; as it is the last opportunity they will have to tweak the set up ready for the race which starts at 14h00 local time. Casey Stoner:“For the whole session we were trying to find the right set up. All weekend we’ve been struggling a little and we’ve not found anything I’m comfortable with, I’ve closed the front many times and we’re still looking to find some balance on the bike to get it working on this track, where we expected it to work well. On my first soft tyre I encountered some traffic and was held up, also there was a crash and a yellow flag so I lost my chance on that tyre. Then on the next soft tyre we had one lap to find some pace and we managed front row which is important for tomorrow. I don’t feel we’re running with the pace of Dani and Jorge, they seem to be constantly one to two tenths quicker but we have warm up tomorrow morning to find something in time for the race so we’ll see what we can do.” Dani Pedrosa:“We couldn’t improve as much as I’d like to in the final part of the practice, we tried some different settings and unfortunately we didn’t find a good one, but to start from the front row is always important and here we are again. I felt more comfortable with the hard tyres, which it’s positive because they will be the ones used for the race, but we still need to make another step forward tomorrow and hopefully find a little more grip in the rear. Lorenzo seems very stable and fast, so I hope to find something else with my mechanics tonight and to be able to fight for a great result tomorrow. The race will be very fast, there are many laps here, so it will be important to be focus on every lap and stay strong until the end. I know the race distance will be hard for me physically, you have to work a lot in this track, there are a lot of bumps and you need to be very focused not to make any mistakes. But I will try my best and I hope to stay strong and consistent until the end.” Andrea Dovizioso:?My target was to start from the first two rows, so finishing sixth is not too bad, but I hoped to start at least from the 4th position because it?s external and gives more advantages from the start. Anyway, we are quite close and we need to work more to gain another two tenths in rac[...]
2011-07-24T23:37:35.605-07:00It was another hot day here at Quebec’s Circuit de Ste Julie with temperatures hovering near the mid 30′s but it looks like we might get a bit of relief tomorrow with temps forecasted to cool off a bit. One thing that won’t be cooling off is the racing on the track. Will Matt Goerke repeat his win from last weekend? Will Colton Facciotti come back with a vengance? How about defending champ, Dusty Klatt, who struggled in the heat last weekend but flew to a double moto sweep here last year? And can the Sewell brothers mix things up with the front runners? Tomorrow’s going to be a great day of racing! Throw in Tyler Medaglia looking to get back on the top step of the podium, while Kaven Benoit will be using the energy of the always loud hometown fans for extra motivation and Leading Edge’s Austin Politelli will be looking to make it two in a row in the MX2 class. His teammate, Tyler Sjoberg will also be looking to prove that Politelli isn’t the only green rider capable of winning so tomorrow’s shaping up to be one hell of a battle. Here’s a few photos from the pits today here at Ste Julie… Kevin Lepp and his dad, Tim, do a little last minute tweaking on his Holeshot Racing CRF250. LCR Honda late addition Ben Bostrom has said it is a dream come true to race in the final year of the MotoGP 800cc era at a track he says is easy to ride fast but not if you’re fighting your bike.
Bostrom, who won five World Superbike races in a row in 2001 on his way to third in the championship behind Colin Edwards and Troy Bayliss, has joined Toni Elias for the Laguna round but may be on the bike for some more rounds, depending on many things, not least how he gets on with the Bridgestones.
It?s really an honour to be here, I have to thank LCR Honda and Michael Jordan Motorsports for their collaboration and even American Suzuki for allowing the opportunity and I just want to get out there!? said Bostrom, who at 37 is making his Grand Prix debut.
?We?ve won and lost here, it?s a strange track. When you?re going fast it really comes easy, but when you fight the bike it feels like 100 laps. I watch these (MotoGP) guys in every race and it?s a dream come true ride an 800cc in MotoGP. I know they?re going to 1000cc next year so this could be one of the last, maybe the only, opportunities I have to ride this one.?
Knapp in action in the AMA Superbike series
By BSB desk
CN Racing have secured the services of American rider Taylor Knapp to ride for the team when they switch to the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 series at the Brands Hatch British Superbike round.
Knapp will make his debut on the Kawasaki ZX-10R as a wildcard at the Silverstone World Superbike round in the Euro Superstock class next weekend before travelling down to the Kent circuit. Knapp is currently eighth in the Daytona SportBike rider standings but has full AMA experience and is a top-ten Daytona 200 finisher.
We’re guessing Josh Hansen has seen pretty much everything in his time of dominating on 2 wheels, but no schooling in life prepares you for the crazies that lurk at Zwarte Cross, Holland.
The 2011 festival crammed in near enough 150,000 fans for a weekend of MX (of varying styles), music and action sports. Josh got fully involved and if he wasn’t on his bike he was signing for fans, checking out the FMX action or getting up on stage to show some love to the hoards.
Check out how it went down.

At 37-years old, the American Ben Bostrom made his MotoGP debut Friday, riding as a Wildcard entry for LCR Honda at Laguna Seca.
His first outing on the LCR Honda RC212V MotoGP prototype was very productive, considering in Free Practice 1 Bostrom was just under five seconds behind the lead rider, but by Free Practice 2 he was just over four seconds slower.
By the end of Friday, Bostrom remained the final rider in the MotoGP field, posting the 18th fastest time of 1:26.159, which was 4.103 of a second slower than the lead rider, Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo.
After his MotoGP practice sessions, Bostrom returned to his Michael Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000 in his normal series, AMA Superbike, for Friday practice; he was ninth fastest, 1.711 of a second behind the leader, Yamaha’s Josh Hayes.
Ben Bostrom (LCR Honda RC212V MotoGP Wildcard) says: “Well… it was a great experience and I enjoyed myself very much. The adjustment we made for this afternoon session worked better and chassis set up felt better.
“I feel overall that Bridgestone tires are very good and the grip level is very high. I am struggling with the front in braking and turning into the corners so, in the last run, I took the opportunity to watch the other riders to see how they brake and how they turn into the corners of ‘my’ race track”.
2011-07-24T23:37:35.607-07:00John Hopkins continues to sidle up on a full-time MotoGP return, this time with a wildcard ride at Brno in mid-August. The Rizla Suzuki team today announced that the American will join Alvaro Bautista for the Czech Grand Prix at Brno, aboard a second Suzuki GSV-R. Hopkins previously replaced Bautista at Jerez, after the Spaniard broke his femur in the opening round of the series, the American finishing in 10th. There has been talk that Hopkins would be racing as a wildcard for some months now, but the details had to be finalized. That has now happened, and Hopkins, who is second in the British Superbike Championship, will make his first appearance at Brno. Below is the text of the press release announcing Hopper’s wildcard: Hopkins and Rizla Suzuki re-unite Publish Date: Thursday, July 21, 2011 John Hopkins will race for the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP team in the Czech Republic round of the MotoGP World Championship at Brno on Sunday 14th August. Hopkins will make his second appearance of the season for the Rizla Suzuki squad, this time as a team-mate for lvaro Bautista rather than as a replacement. Hopkins deputised for the injured Spaniard at Jerez and scored a creditable 10th place at the Spanish Grand Prix, due to Bautista’s inability to ride following the broken femur he suffered in Qatar. The Anglo-American racer last rode at Brno for Rizla Suzuki in 2007 and recorded his best-ever finish in a MotoGP race by bringing his Suzuki GSV-R home in second place – a result that went some way to seeing Hopkins secure fourth place in the championship that season. Hopkins is currently in second place in the British Superbike championship onboard a Suzuki GSX-R1000 with the Samsung Crescent Racing team. His next event is at Silverstone in England, when he gets a taste of World Championship motorcycle racing as he competes in the WSB series on Sunday 29th July. John Hopkins: “It’s a real thrill to get the opportunity to ride at Brno and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m very pleased that we have been able to achieve it because it is something we have been working on for a long time. To be honest it couldn’t be at a better track for me either, I had my best result in my MotoGP career at that track and I’m really pumped that I am going there again. As far as the Suzuki goes, I think it’s a great bike and the package is a lot better than when I last rode it in 2007. I think that in comparison to what I was able to do in Jerez, I believe I will be able to perform a lot better because back then I hadn’t been on a bike in a competitive environment for six or seven months. I got thrown in at the deep-end in Spain, but this time I will have a lot more race-craft. It’s also a huge benefit for me to be riding alongside lvaro instead of riding in-place of him, so that will be really good, not just for me but for the whole team. With the two of us we can help develop[...]

2011-07-24T23:37:35.607-07:002011-07-22 20:27 lvaro Bautista followed on from his strong performance last weekend in Germany to produce his best first day?s performance of the season so far at Laguna Seca today. Bautista (P7, 1?23.056, 49 laps), was in constant touch with the top-six through the afternoon session, even though he couldn?t find the rear grip from his Rizla Suzuki that he wanted over the 3,610m American circuit. He worked hard with his crew to get the levels of adhesion that he is looking for to make the next step up and compete with the group in front of him. Bautista still believes there is more to come from him and his machine over the rest of the weekend and is in a confident mood as he heads towards tomorrow?s qualifying session. Today?s afternoon practice was held in brilliant sunshine with cloudless skies covering the Laguna Seca Raceway. World Champion Jorge Lorenzo on a Yamaha was the fastest rider of the day, with last weekend?s winner Dani Pedrosa second and current championship leader Casey Stoner in third. Bautista is only a second from first place and will be looking to break into a 1?22 lap tomorrow, a feat which was only achieved by the top-six today. Rizla Suzuki has a free practice session of 45-minutes tomorrow morning followed by an hour of qualifying in the afternoon. Sunday?s 32-lap race is the 10th of the season and the action gets underway at 14.00hrs local time (21.00hrs GMT). lvaro Bautista: ?This morning the track was very cold so we started with the softer tyres and from the beginning it felt like we didn?t have very much grip from the rear when entering a corner. The contact feeling wasn?t quite right so we worked on improving that and we also tried some different electronics settings for the spin control. In the second session the track temperatures had increased so we used the harder compound tyres, but we seemed to have the same problem as this morning with corner entry grip. This didn?t give me a good feeling and made me slower in the corner and on the exit than I wanted to be. We worked hard to try and resolve it but we didn?t quite manage it, so it gives us something to work towards tomorrow. My lap-times and rhythm were not too bad though and I was able to follow some fast guys quite easily, so this is a good sign. I hope that tomorrow we can improve on the rear grip and do some work on the gearbox, because we are not at our maximum here just yet. So we have a lot of work to do on Saturday, but at the moment I am very confident because my feeling is positive like it was last week in Germany.? Paul Denning ? Team Manager: ?It?s been a very solid first day here at Laguna Seca for lvaro and the Rizla Suzuki team. The performance at Sachsenring last weekend has helped his confidence and it?s clear that he has brought a slightly different tactic to Friday?s sessions to try and be as close to the lead group?s pace as he possibly can, as we head [...]

2011-07-24T23:37:35.608-07:00With just over one week remaining before the 2011 SPEA FIM Trial World Championship arrives in Nevis Range, Fort William ? Scotland for the sixth round of the series, the focus is now very much on the riders that will be representing Queen and country at their home GP. During the weekend of 30/31 July a host of British talent will descend on the Scottish Highlands, looking to make their mark on sections that should favour the home runners. In fact Britain will be the best represented nation in the World Pro class, with no less than five riders featured on the entry list. Spearheading Britain’s attack is twelve times FIM Trial World Champion Dougie Lampkin ? Gas Gas. In search of his 100th GP win and sure to be motivated by massive home support that will be present, Lampkin is fully committed to taking victory on British soil. After coming desperately close to claiming his 100th World round win at last year’s event, when he finished second during the first day, the undisputed King of trials is determined to realise his target and ride on to the top step of the podium once again. Dougie is not alone in his bid to reach the rostrum at his home Grand Prix with current British Trials Champion, James Dabill also looking to stamp his authority on the famous Scottish sections. Currently sixth in the overall standings, James will be keen to use his home advantage in order to record his best result of the season to date. Twenty-one year old Jack Challoner – Beta will also have high hopes arriving in Fort William. Despite this only being his first year in the World Pro class, Challoner has produced a series of determined performances and finds himself in eighth place, only five points behind the more experienced Loris Gubian ? Gas Gas. Currently ninth in the general standings Michael Brown ? Gas Gas will travel to Fort William riding on a wave of confidence after recently taking his maiden win of the season at the latest round of the 2011 British Trials Championship. “Obviously getting my first victory of the domestic championship was brilliant and it has certainly given me increased motivation heading to Fort William. Last year’s UK World Trial was fantastic and I am expecting it to be just as good this time around. With my team by my side and the crowd behind me I will be pushing for a good result,” said Michael. In the Junior category Jonathan Richardson ? Sherco will continue his championship campaign and will be joined by wild card entries George Morton ? Beta, Jack Spencer ? Beta and Harry Harvey ? Montesa. As regular competitors in the British Trials Championship with previous experience of the formidable Scottish hazards, George and Jack could perhaps record surprise performances on the day. Within the highly competitive Youth class the hopes and dre[...]

The Yamaha rider set a 1m22.056s on his ninth lap and stayed ahead thereafter, setting a consistently rapid pace and even escaping a wild moment near the end of his final lap without trouble. Honda had been first and second in the morning, but could not quite match Lorenzo in practice two. Dani Pedrosa was second in the end, 0.141 seconds down on Lorenzo, with his team-mates Casey Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso third and fourth. It was an all-factory Yamaha and Honda top five as Ben Spies was top American again in fifth, followed by Marco Simoncelli’s Gresini Honda. Best of the rest this time was Suzuki’s Alvaro Bautista in a promising seventh. Pramac’s Randy de Puniet was Ducati’s quickest rider in eighth, as the factory bikes of Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi were only 10th and 11th, behind Tech 3 Yamaha’s Colin Edwards. Both works Ducati men used the 2012 chassis GP11.1 in this session. Newcomer Ben Bostrom still trailed the field, but narrowed the gap slightly as he took his LCR Honda round 4.1s off Lorenzo’s pace. 2011-07-24T23:37:35.609-07:002011-07-21 06:41 KTM rider Chris Birch came home in second in the 2011 Red Bull Romaniacs 2011, the five-day event for passionate hard Enduro riders in and around Sibiu, Romania after five days of challenging riding in the magnificent scenery of Transylvania. The New Zealand professional who has been living and competing in South Africa this season still said he was ?stoked? to be on the podium in second place to winner Graham Jarvis of the UK. Throughout the competition, Birch, who won here last year, did everything in his power to reclaim the time he had lost on Jarvis in the early part of the race. He now returns to South Africa and will compete again in the national competition on Saturday. German rider Andreas Lettenbichler was third. Chris Birch at the end of the race: ?Today I had my hardest day so far, this was quite tough but definitely a fun ride. Coming second to Graham (Jarvis) is okay in my book ? this guy is incredible! And I love this race. I have done all kinds of races around the world and this is by far the best.” Romaniacs 2011: Prologue and four days hard rideChris tackled the rain soaked prologue on Saturday with enthusiasm saying he felt right at home in the wet conditions and even then it was clear that Jarvis was going to be the most dangerous opponent. In the final shakeout it was Jarvis in front of KTM UK rider Paul Bolton followed by Birch in the prologue, which was punctuated with an alarmingly tricky man-made obstacles in downtown Sibiu. This year it was live streamed to the Internet for the first time. Day One this year was not the usual deep-end approach; organizers had declared it a warm up day, even if it did include some challenging territory. Homer?s downhill proved to be tough even for the pro division and Jarvis was the only one to stay on the bike for this descent. Birch had an off and was slightly injured but still managed to finish in fourth place. Chris came into his own on Day Two when the pace was fast and the landscape beautiful and even though he struggled with some pain from a former hand injury, he still took line honors. ?I had a much better day today and had an awesome time,? he said. ?The bike was great – these KTMs just seem to like this kind of abuse? It was a day however that Bolton will remember because he damaged his carburetor on a tree and it cost him a vital 10 minutes.” Day Three will go down amongst the riders as pain day: hot, dramatic and very tough. It was also the day where Birch finally got the edge on Jarvis only to see his bike crash down a raving and hit a tree. Thanks to some on-track camaraderie Chris got back in the action and finished just minutes behind Jarvis. At the end of the race, Birch d[...]

2011-07-24T23:37:35.610-07:00The traditional post-race debrief press release from Bridgestone. In this press release, Bridgestone’s assistant director Hirohide Hamashima explains why they believe the crashes happened on Friday morning: German Grand Prix debrief with Hirohide HamashimaRound 9: German GP ? Post-race debriefSachsenring Circuit, Tuesday 19 July 2011 Bridgestone slick compounds available: Front: Hard, Extra Hard. Rear (asymmetric): Medium, Hard As the rain stayed away until minutes after the chequered flag, when a light shower fell, the German Grand Prix became only the third race of the season at which MotoGP track time has not been interrupted by rain. Conditions started cold on Friday morning but warmed throughout the weekend, leading to a new lap record and a new total race time record being set on Sunday by race-winner Dani Pedrosa in just his second race since returning from injury. The race itself was fantastic with Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner locked in a three-way battle for the lead, ahead of a three-way battle for fourth and a four-way battle for seventh, keeping the 101,309 race-day fans thoroughly entertained. Hirohide Hamashima ? Assistant to Director, Motorsport Tyre Development Division What happened on Friday morning? “There were several crashes in which Valentino, Casey, Dani and Toni all fell. In each instance it was through a right hand corner, and of course with only three rights in a lap it is the right side of the tyres that is lesser used and therefore tends to be cooler. Every crash happened as a result of the rider losing the front end. Turn eleven, where most of the falls occurred, is the first fast right of the lap and is over a blind crest before riders plunge downhill towards turn twelve. This means a few things: because it is the first fast right of the lap, the right side of the tyres hadn’t been subject to much residual load by that point so the temperature tends to be lower. It is a fast corner so the riders must commit to it and carry a lot of speed through it, which places sudden load on the front tyre. And finally, because it is over a blind crest, there is a natural tendency for the bike to go light which means as the circuit drops away the load exerted through the tyres is momentarily reduced, reducing contact patch and therefore grip. Plus, the track temperature was cold, and the combination of this contributed to the crashes we saw on Friday morning. “It is important to point out though that we must select our tyre compound options for the conditions we expect in the race which are often if not always much better. I[...]

2011-07-24T23:37:35.611-07:00By Jamie O’Leary Wednesday, July 20th 2011, 12:58 GMT Loris Capirossi is confident that his fitness is now at the level that will allow him to return to MotoGP in time for this weekend’s United States Grand Prix. The Pramac Ducati rider dislocated his right shoulder during qualifying for the Dutch TT and missed both the Assen race and the following event at Mugello as a result. He made his comeback in Germany last weekend, but struggled for fitness and stood down from riding duties after the opening free practice session as Sylvain Guintoli took over for the remainder of the weekend. Now, however, the 38-year-old Italian is set to complete the whole weekend at the physically demanding Laguna Seca circuit, which he admits will be a big challenge. “This time I’m really returning to the track,” said Capirossi. “As I said before the Sachsenring weekend, the [Ducati] Desmosedici is mine, and seeing another rider on it bothered me a lot. “I’m not in top form, but I’ve worked over the past few days to be in decent physical condition. The track is very tough, which isn’t ideal for my condition, but I’ll give 110 per cent to be able to finish the race. I’m expecting a very challenging weekend.” Capirossi, who has won nine times in grand prix racing’s premier class, has not finished higher than ninth this year and lies 16th in the riders’ championship. Crutchlow says he has some ideas to fix his nervous front end
By David Miller
Monster Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow will go to this weekend’s Laguna Seca MotoGP round still on the hunt for a solution to the nervous front end of his satellite YZR-M1 in which he has precious little confidence.
The former World Supersport Champion has revealed both he and team-mate Colin Edwards have trouble with handlebars that move on their own but says he and the team will be working double time in order to fix it.
?The result last weekend in Germany was a bit disappointing but I’m ready to bounce back in Laguna Seca and fight for a top ten where I know I should be. I’m still searching for some more confidence in the front-end, but all of us in the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team are working non-stop to improve the situation and we’ve got a few ideas to try at Laguna,” said Crutchlow.
“It is another new track for me but I’m really excited. Laguna Seca is such a famous name and the Corkscrew looks amazing. It looks awesome on TV, so I’m looking forward to getting on the bike on Friday and experiencing it for myself for the first time.
“I’ll have to ask Colin for some tips, but I’m just concentrating on getting a decent result that we can build on for the rest of the season. The last few races have been quite difficult but I’ll be working harder than ever this weekend to put things right.”

2011-07-24T23:37:35.612-07:00The traditional post-race debrief press release from Bridgestone. Plus, the track temp[...]
2011-07-24T23:37:35.612-07:00The Laguna Seca circuit has been a good destination for the Repsol Honda Team since the Californian track regained its position on the MotoGP calendar in 2006, after a ten year absence. The U.S Grand Prix will bring to an end the busiest period of the season with six races held in the last eight weeks, and will demand the rider’s last efforts before the summer break. Casey Stoner and Laguna Seca make a good combination. The Australian has achieved two pole positions, one victory and three podiums in five outings and retains the best lap record in Laguna (1’20.700 thanks to his pole in 2008) and the circuit record from last year (1’21.376). Dani Pedrosa’s debut in Laguna Seca was also impressive. The Spaniard was second in 2006, on his first visit to this demanding track, and took the victory in 2009 becoming the first Spanish rider in history to win in Laguna. Andrea Dovizioso will be aiming to step up and fight for a podium that he has narrowly missed twice, in 2010 and 2008, finishing fourth on both occasions. Casey Stoner:“I’m looking forward to going to Laguna Seca, it’s a circuit I’ve always enjoyed quite good results at and we’ve always been naturally quite fast there. The track itself is a very tight and technical track, there are lots of sweeping gradients and unusual corners with a lot of camber, so you need to be delicate on the track and not ?attack? it too much. We’ll be looking to improve our results from the past three weekends, three podiums are great but I’m here to win races, so we’ll be aiming to get back on the top step next Sunday in Laguna. It’s been a pretty tiring few weeks and we have another back to back race now, but I love going to America and the area of Monterey is truly beautiful, the fans are always very welcoming and the atmosphere there is fantastic.” Andrea Dovizioso:?I really look forward to racing in Laguna Seca. I have always had a good feeling with this track and I like the whole ambience there. We arrive very motivated and it?s good that we race straight after Sachsenring. I?m satisfied of the improvement we have done in the last GP in terms of consistency and race pace and I?m confident that in Laguna we can return competitive to fight for the podium and hope[...]
2011-07-24T23:37:35.612-07:00Press release previews of the Red Bull US Grand Prix from Laguna Seca from the MotoGP teams. Preview from LCR Honda and Cardion AB to follow, as soon as they are in: Rizla Suzuki heads stateside looking for further improvements Publish Date: Monday, July 18, 2011 Rizla Suzuki has made a transatlantic dash to ?The Golden State’ of California in The United States of America for the 10th round of the 2011 MotoGP World Championship. lvaro Bautista is in a confident mood following his impressive seventh place last time out at the Sachsenring. He is planning to continue with the same vein of work that the team produced in Germany and move closer to the top-six. Bautista will certainly be looking for better luck on his second visit to the American circuit – his first race at Laguna ended unceremoniously last year when he was knocked off by another rider on only the third lap. The Spaniard will be determined this time to make up for that as he continues to build on his form from recent races. The Laguna Seca circuit is situated about 160kms south of San Francisco near the towns of Monterey and Seaside. The area was originally a field artillery target range and manoeuvre site belonging to the US Army and the circuit is actually built on a dried-up lake. The 3,610m layout features 11 corners ? four right and seven left ? and includes probably one of the most incredible turns on any racetrack in the world: the famous ?Corkscrew’ is a left and right hand combination with a huge drop in elevation that gives a feeling of falling off the edge of a cliff as the riders approach it at high-speeds. Rizla Suzuki has three 45-minute practice sessions on Friday and Saturday morning, followed by an hour of qualifying on Saturday afternoon. Sunday’s race is round 10 on the MotoGP calendar and the excitement will get underway for the 32-lap race at 14.00hrs local time (21.00hrs GMT) with Bautista hoping to follow in the footsteps of early pioneers and find gold in the Californian hills! lvaro Bautista: “I have a good memory of Laguna from last year ? except for the race! It is a nice track and very difficult. I am really looking forward to it after Sachsenring because I am very confident we can continue what we are doing and make further ste[...]
2011-07-24T23:37:35.612-07:00150 ? At the US GP, Hector Barbera will be making his 150th Grand Prix start, which includes 47 in the 125cc class and 75 in the 250cc class. 51 years ? On race day at Laguna Seca it will be exactly 51 years since Kenjiro Tanaka finished third in the 250cc race at the 1960 German Grand Prix at the Solitude circuit, giving Honda their first ever podium finish in Grand Prix racing. 51 ? Both Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner have stood on the podium on 51 occasions in their MotoGP careers. This is the same number of podium finishes in the premier-class as both 1993 world champion Kevin Schwantz and 1999 world champion Alex Criville. 20 ? Valentino Rossi has finished in the top nine in all 20 races since returning from injury at the German Grand Prix last year. 17 years ? On race day at Laguna Seca it will be 17 years ago to the day that Kevin Schwantz won the 500cc GP race at Donington in 1994 after suffering a huge high-side crash during practice. This was the last of Schwantz?s 25 Grand Prix victories. 7 ? Of the twelve premier-class races held at Laguna Seca, seven have been won by riders from the USA. 7 ? Casey Stoner has finished on the podium at the last seven races ? his longest sequence of successive podium finishes in Grand Prix racing. 5 ? It has been five years since an American rider has finished on the podium at the Laguna Seca MotoGP race. The last MotoGP podium for an American rider at the circuit was Nicky Hayden?s victory in 2006. 4 ? Four of the riders competing in MotoGP this year have raced at all the previous six MotoGP races at Laguna Seca since the return to the circuit in 2005: Loris Capirossi, Colin Edwards, Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi. 4 ? The last four MotoGP races have been won by four different riders: Casey Stoner, Ben Spies, Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa. The last time that there has been four different MotoGP winners in four successive races was at the final two races of the 2009 season and the first two races of 2010: Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. If there is another different race winner at Laguna Seca it will be the first time since the end of the 2006 start of the 2007 season when there has been a sequence of five different MotoGP w[...]
2011-07-24T23:37:35.613-07:00Rear tire troubles at the German round cost Simoncelli the chance to fight to the line for fourth place, but another strong showing throughout the race was an important achievement. ?Super Sic? is ready to fight with the leading riders in MotoGP once again and his target for this weekend is to find the consistency over race distance that will allow him to challenge for the result he is clearly capable of. Laguna Seca is one of his favorite circuits and the ideal place for him to confirm his huge potential. While Simoncelli looks to conquer America his team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama is preparing to race there for the first time, having missed out last year through injury. The Japanese rider is not in top physical condition this year either as he is still struggling from the effects of a crash at Assen last month, which has also affected his confidence with the bike in recent races. His target in America is to rediscover his feeling with his machine and recover positions as soon as possible. Marco Simoncelli:?Fourth place at Sachsenring would have been a different story but I am still satisfied with my performance there and I take a lot of motivation with me to America. It was important for me to keep my form up even though it was disappointed I couldn’t stick the pace for the full thirty laps. Unfortunately I had problems with the degradation of the left side of the rear tyre and I couldn’t push as hard at the end of the race as I could for the first half. It’s a shame but at least I get the chance to make up for it at Laguna, a unique circuit that I really like. The track itself fascinates me, the Corkscrew is thrilling and the enthusiasm of the fans gives you an extra boost. Together with the team we will be working to be more consistent over race distance, which will be an important part of closing the gap to the leaders.? Hiroshi Aoyama:?I was still struggling a lot at Sachsenring with my injuries from Assen and even though I tried my best to come away with a positive result, it was very difficult for me to get a feeling for the bike. I am sorry to the team for that, and I hope to be able to make it up to them in the next race at L[...]

2011-07-24T23:37:35.614-07:002011-07-18 21:57 The MX1 GP of Latvia was a near perfect weekend for Tony Cairoli and the Red Bull Teka KTM factory team. In fact any time, KTM reigning world champion went out on the track he was the fastest ? from free practice right through to the MX1 GP motos. Now completely fit and feeling confident, Tony has shifted up a gear in his bid to capture his fifth world championship title and this weekend?s efforts netted him a cool 50 points to extend his lead by 42 points over second placed Clement Desalle. Tony was pushed hard by Steven Frossard in both motos but still managed to control the races and was the dominant rider of the weekend. It was also a positive weekend for Max Nagl and while a crash at the beginning of the second moto spoilt his chances of a top place he still clearly benefited from increased confidence enhanced by changes in setup of his KTM 350. ?KTM and WP did an amazing job,? he said after the race. Tony Cairoli: it was an awesome weekend. Every time I was on the track I as in front. It was an amazing feeling. I?m getting stronger and stronger every weekend and my speed is getting better. I enjoyed both races. I led from the first lap of the first race but Frossard was strong at the end and I had some trouble with a back marker but in the end it was enough to won. I got a good start in the second race and managed to get enough to control it. Max Nagl: ?I?m more confident now and I know I can do the same speed as Tony and the guys because I was able to keep up with them in the first heat. The riding went well and things are going much better since we made some changes with the setup. Team boss Stefan Everts: This was a top weekend for us. Tony showed he?s back in the game and made a nice lead in the points. He?s in full control and our bikes looked great. Max also did well. We did some changes in the setup of the 350 and you coul[...]
2011-07-24T23:37:35.614-07:00Bridgestone announced during the Sachsenring weekend that a proposition for the revision of the MotoGP tyre allocation had been made to the Safety Commission. Following the ninth round of the 2011 season Hirohide Hamashima, Assistant to Director of the Motorsport Tyre Development Division at Bridgestone, analysed the performance of the slick compounds offered throughout at the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland. What happened on Friday morning??There were several crashes in which Valentino (Rossi), Casey (Stoner), Dani (Pedrosa) and Toni (Elas) all fell. In each instance it was through a right hand corner, and of course with only three rights in a lap it is the right side of the tyres that is lesser used and therefore tends to be cooler. GEICO Honda’s Justin Barcia had quite a yea in the AMA Supercross 250cc Championship. In fact, he has his best year ever.
The Honda CRF250R pilot clinched the 2011 Lites East Championship in May, and although he raced most of the series with a broken wrist, he still finished on the podium for every race, including three wins en route to his first-ever AMA Supercross title.
With seven rounds of 12 complete so far in the 2011 AMA Motocross Championship, Barcia hasn’t had the luck of his SX season; he currently is seventh in the overall MX Championship with 152. Barcia also broke his nose during a wreck at Round 7 in Spring Creek MX.

2011-07-24T23:37:35.615-07:00Jarad Goodwin A Class Winner Despite a poor weather forecast, both the sunshine and over 150 riders poured into Fat Cats for Round 8 of the Summer Series. Unbelievably, the track even needed a splash of water before first practice to ensure it was in tip top condition for the days racing. Jad Goodwin showed he still has what it takes, with two wins and a second to take the overall win in the A Class, with Josh Fytche taking second overall and Lee Harrison claiming third spot. Despite a poor first Moto in the B Class, two wins in the second and third was enough to give Micheal Grahan the overall win. Second overall went to Ben Askew with Ben Clarke taking third overall. Two race wins and a second gave the overall win in the C1 Class to Steven Richardson. Two third places and a win in the last Moto gave Zak Huberry second overall, with James Brown taking third on the day. In the C2 class three wins from three saw Shaun Fletcher take a comfortable overall win, with Paul Gallacher taking second ahead of Ash Senior in third. Some great racing in the Youth Open class, saw some great battles, with Todd kirk coming through for the overall win with a third and two first places. Josh Bentley rode well for second overall with Zak Wood taking third. Scooter Webster dominated the BW 85 class with three wins from three. Cal Wardman rode extremely well to take second overall with two second places and a third. Jack Hills took third overall. Round seven of the twelve stop 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship went off Saturday in front of a solid crowd at Spring Creek MX Park. Millville, MN marks the homecoming event for Minnesota native Pro Taper riders Ryan Dungey and Alex Martin. Both riders put their local knowledge to good use in route to a 450 class victory for Dungey and a career best top five for Martin in the 250 class. From nearby Belle Plaine, MN, Dungey always seems to rise to the occasion at Spring Creek. Riding a three year overall win streak at the track, Millville seemed like the perfect event to make up some much needed ground in the overall championship points. Ryan did just that, cutting the pre race 22-point deficit down to seven when the final checkered flag flew. With 2-1 moto finishes, Dungey took the overall victory and added to his ten moto podium streak. ?Obviously, being here at Millville and having the hometown crowd is great; it?s always a treat to be back here because I love the track and the fans are great,? said Dungey. ?I grew up with a lot of people who came out today, so that was an extra bonus. Finally, I?m glad to get another win for the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team ? This is a good step in the right direction for the championship.? Team Eleven10 Mods Honda privateer Alex Martin has been slightly overshadowed this summer by teammate Darryn Durham, despite logging some impressive rides himself. At his home track, Alex scored a career best fifth overall, beating out over a dozen factory supported riders. The break out ride catapulted Martin to 12th in the championshi[...]
