Video update: Audi A4 2.0 TDI Avant Facelift

Sat, 18 Oct 2014 12:46:00 +0000

As the fourth generation A4, Audi introduced the A4 B8 in late 2007 at the Geneva Motor Show. In February the model range was completed by the introduction of the A4 Avant, while the A5 served as the coupe and convertible in this range. Both the Audi A4 and A5 share the same platform, which is also intented for use by more VAG-brands in the future.

After 4 years of production, the A4 received a facelift, in November 2011. Apart from technical changes, the appearance of the car was also updated. In the front, the grille and headlight have been changed, if the Xenon plus is included it also features and updated LED-design. Also at the rear of the car the design of the rearlights has been altered, including a new LED-design.

The interior has largely been retaining its old design, but minor changes have been made to the (available) steering wheel and the gear shift lever of the automatic transmission, they have been adapted to the design also found in the interior of the new Audi A6. Also the MMI now has less buttons, while the seat heating can be controlled directly from a button (in the pre-facelift generation it was operated on the climate control).

Picture update: BMW 530d xDrive LCI M Sport

Tue, 09 Sep 2014 11:11:00 +0000

BMW introduced its current generation 5-series, known by the BMW-code "F10", in November 2009. Production commenced in January 2010 and the first F10s have been delivered to the dealerships in March of 2010. Compared to its predecessor (the E60 / 2003 - 2010) the new 5-series was 4cm longer while its wheelbase was 10cm longer. In April BMW introduced the 5-series Touring, known as the "F11". Just as the 5-series E60, the new 5-series is produced by the BMW factory in Dingolfing, Germany. Not completely true, the Long Wheel Base 5-series (F18) is produced in Shenyang China, due to the fact that this specific version is only available on the Chinese market. In July 2013 BMW presented its 5-series LCI (Lifecycle Impulse), more commonly known as a "facelift". As already available on the 1- and 3-series, BMW now also introduced its BMW Lines in the 5-series range, both the Luxury Line and Modern Line. Another new feature are the Full HD Headlights (featured on this 530d), while the xenon headlights become a standard feature instead of an option. Also the rear lights have had a small update. Some of the engines have been adapted, so that now all engines adhere to the EURO6-norm. The co-drivers view: Deventer - River IJssel

Wed, 02 Jul 2014 05:00:00 +0000

In the first video of this blog we drive near the Dutch city of Deventer (just over 130.000 inhabitants), which is located in the eastern part of the Netherlands, on the eastern bank of the river IJssel. Shot on the western bank of the IJssel, we cross a lot of nature, while driving on the dykes and in the delta netxt to the river.  allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/Vr-8a-430ZI?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />Passing through the small village of Wilp, we drive back alongside the second dyke (a first one is positioned closer to the river) towards the city of Deventer. Driving over the Wilhelminabridge - crossing the IJssel - we end up near the city centre. A fun fact: on and near this bridge the movie "A Bridge Too Far" has been filmed, as the original site in Arnhem has lost most of its historic city centre. After having drivin Deventer we leave the city southbound, towards the small village of Gorssel (and the third video). allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/opBeW220Zxc?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />Gorssel is a small town located near the city of Deventer, in the eastern part of the Netherlands. With a population of just 4.000 inhabitants, it is a typical small village for this part of the country.Car used: BMW 520d (F10 / 2013)More episodes of "the co-drivers view":The co-drivers view: Berlin (2010)The co-drivers view: Utrecht (2010)The co-drivers view: Police escort in the Hague (2010)The co-drivers view: Trip to Italy (2010)The co-drivers view: Nijmegen (2010)The co-drivers view: Münsterland (2010)The co-drivers view: Heidelberg (2011)The co-drivers view: Sunday on the Autobahn (2011)The co-drivers view: Central Germany (2011)The co-drivers view: Deventer (2011)The co-drivers view: Amsterdam ringroad A1 / A9 / A2 (2011) The co-drivers view: Hamburg Elbtunnel (2011)The co-drivers view: Dutch army on the move (2011)The co-drivers view: the Hague (2011)The co-drivers view: Ringroad Eindhoven (2011)The co-drivers view: Oldenburg (2011)The co-drivers view: Arnhem (2011)The co-drivers view: A12 Utrecht (2012)The co-drivers view: Rotterdam (2012)The co-drivers view: Autobahn A2 (2012)The co-drivers view: the Dutch countryside (2012)The co-drivers view: Veluwe (2012)The co-drivers view: Hamburg (2012)The co-drivers view: Osnabrück / Autobahn A30 (2012)The co-drivers view: Berlin (2012)The co-drivers view: Driving fast on the Autobahn (2013)The co-drivers view: Kampen (2013)The co-drivers view: Oxford (2013)The co-drivers view: Bremen (2013)The co-drivers view: Amsterdam (2013)The co-drivers view: Maasvlakte 1 & 2 (2013)Guitigefilmpjes[...]

Video update: BMW 525d xDrive Touring (2012 / F11)

Sat, 28 Jun 2014 10:53:00 +0000

Also known as the F10 (sedan) and F11 (Touring), the current BMW 5-series has been available since early 2010. The car is produced in BMWs Dingolfing plant in Germany, but also in Shenyang in China, where next to the standard 5-series the F18 - Long Wheel Base - 5-series is produced that is only available on the Chinese market. Initially 6 engines have been available (four petrol engines and two diesel engines), while a four-cylinder diesel engine (520d) with 184hp was introduced later in 2010. In an effort to reduce CO2-emissions, BMW has replaced several six-cylinder engines with four cylinder engines. Thus the BMW 525d (204hp, six-cylinders) became a 525d (218hp, four-cylinders), the 523i (204hp, six-cylinders) was replaced by the 520i (184hp, four-cylinders) and the 528i (258hp, six-cylinders) became a 528i (245hp, four-cylinders). Apart from these changes, BMW also introduced a 530i (until the LCI, after which it was dropped again) and a 520d "Efficient-Dynamics Edition". Changes from the standard 520d include a longer rear-axle ration, tires with a low rolling resistance and improved aerodynamics.Optional is the eight-speed automatic gearbox, that due to the large spread between the gears lower the torque and decrease both noise levels and fuel consumption. Even though the gearbox has two extra gears compared to the six-speed automatic gearbox used before, no extra parts were necessary, while the total weight of the gearbox only increased marginally. The gearbox is produced by ZF Friedrichshafen. In Juli 2013 BMW introduced the LCI (LifeCycle Impulse) - also known as a facelift - for the F10-range. Changes included the BMW Lines, previously known from the 1- and 3-series, like the Luxury and Modern Line. Another new element was the full-LED headlights, while the xenon headlights now have become a standard feature, rather then being optional equipment. Another new element is the introduction of the x18d into the 5-series, now available as the BMW 518d.Model (Code / Model Year): BMW 525d xDrive Touring (2012 / F11)Engine: four-cylinder turbocharged common rail diesel engine (1995cm³) / engine code: N47D20Transmission: 8-speed automatic transmissionPerformance: 218hp / 450nm0 to 100km/h: 7,3 secTop speed: 228km/h (143mp/h)BMW 525d xDrive Touring Walkaround - Exterior and interior shots of the carBMW 525d xDrive Touring Fuel Consumption Test - testing the fuel consumption under real life conditions allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/Jcslvvthiuw?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />BMW 525d xDrive Touring Flatout - Putting the pedal to the metal on the German Autobahn allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/gfo3gTNkceI?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />Guitigefilmpjes[...]

Late 2010 BMW introduced the new X3 F25, as a replacement for its predecessor, the first X3 (E83) that was available between 2004 and 2010.  In contrast to its predecessor, the X3 was not produced by Steyr in Austria anymore, but the production was moved to BMWs Spartanburg plant in Greer, South Carolina, in the United States. At this production plant BMW also produced its X5 and X6 models, in a move to concentrate its SUV-activities near the largest market for these vehicles (the United States).BMW offers the X3 with a range of different petrol engines, ranging from the sDrive18d (only available with rear-wheel drive) to the xDrive35i that produces 306hp. In the summer of 2014 the X3 will receive its facelift, with minor changes made to the exterior, interior and optional equipment.Model (Code / Model Year): BMW X3 xDrive20d (2012 / F25)Engine: four-cylinder TwinPower-Turbo diesel engine (1995cm³)  Transmission: 8-speed automatic transmissionPerformance: 184hp / 380nm0 to 100km/h: 8,4 secTop speed: 210km/h (131mp/h)Weight: 1790 - 1880kgFuel tank (US gallons): 67 liter (17,7 US gallons)Production date: August 2012Exterior colour: Mineral Silver metallic (A14)Upholstery: Black Nevada leather (LUSW)Interior trim: Fine woodgrain interior trim 'Fineline Wave'Wheels: 17" V-spoke style 304 alloy wheelsOptional equipment on this specific car:Automatic Gearbox - Steptronic 8-speed (S205A)Servotronic Steering (S216A)Electronic Damper Control (EDC) (S223A)Multi-function controls for steering wheel (S249A)Sport Steering Wheel (S255A)Run-flat tyres (S258A)Performance Control (S2VGA)Variable sport steering (S2VLA)Reversing Assist camera (S3AGA)Roof rails, matt aluminium (S3ATA)X Line (S3XLA)Panoramic glass sunroof (S402A)Luggage compartment separating net (S413A)Floor mats, velours (S423A)Exterior mirrors - auto dimming (S430A)Interior mirror - auto dimming (S431A)Electric front seats + Driver Memory (S459A)Split-folding rear seats (S465A)Extended storage (S493A)Seat heating, front (S494A)Instrument panel embellishers, black (S4NGA)Smoker package (S4U3A)Headlight wash (S502A)Xenon Headlights (S522A)Park Distance Control (PDC), front and rear (S508A)Automatic air conditioning (S534A)Cruise control with brake function (S544A)Light package (S563A)Navigations system - BMW Professional Multimedia (S609A)BMW Assist (S612A)Internet, preparation (S614A)Expanded BMW Online Information (S615A)BMW Online (S616A)Preparation, mobile phone, Business (S633A)HiFi speaker system (S676A)BMW TeleServices (S6AAA)Control for Teleservices (S6ABA)Music interface for Smartphone (S6NFA)Connection Bluetooth + USB devices incl. Video update: BMW X6 xDrive40d LCI (2013 / E71)

Fri, 09 May 2014 14:45:00 +0000

BMW introduced its first crossover between a SUV and coupe in 2008, designated as the BMW X6 "Sports Activity Coupe" (SAC). Like its brother, the BMW X5 E70 with which it shares the same platform, the X6 is produced in Spartanburg (USA), while the cars for the Russian market are produced by Avtotor in Kaliningrad. All BMW X6 come standard with the xDrive four-wheel drive system, and since march 2010 is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Apart from several diesel and petrol engines, BMW introduced a hybrid-X6 in april 2010, which features the same 4.4 liter V8 as in the 50i, but mated with two electric engines producing a total output of 485hp and 780nm.Initially the X6 seated only four people, but since 2011 optionally five (like the X6 in the video). In juli 2012 BMW implemented a small facelift, which included LED-lighting and slightly changed rear lights, and front / rear bumpers. A new addition was the X6 M50d, which is supposed to bye a sporty M-version with a 3.0 liter diesel engine that produced 381hp.Model (Code / Model Year): BMW X6 xDrive40d LCI (2013 / E71)Engine: straight-six diesel engine (2993cm³) with variable geometry turbochargers / engine code: N57D30TOPTransmission: 8-speed automatic transmissionPerformance: 306hp / 600nm0 to 100km/h: 6,5 secTop speed: 236km/h (148mp/h)BMW x6 xDrive40d Walkaround - Exterior and interior shots of the car allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/NhVB2DCShj8?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />BMW x6 xDrive40d Walkaround Fuel Consumption Test - testing the fuel consumption under real life conditions allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/Tt9d6p2iDiI?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />BMW x6 xDrive40d Walkaround Acceleration - Acceleration test from 0km/h allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/oxd4TBtDLfU?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />BMW x6 xDrive40d Walkaround Flatout - Putting the pedal to the metal on the German Autobahn allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/3FkWxE6HHyo?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />Guitigefilmpjes[...]

The co-drivers view: Maasvlakte 1 & 2

Mon, 03 Mar 2014 17:50:00 +0000

Rotterdam is one of the largest ports in the world. In order to cope with the increasing size of the ships, the Dutch government decided to expand the existing port facilities at the Maasvlakte 1. This extension was located directly on deep water, into the North Sea. The Maasvlakte 2 covers 1000 hectares of industrial sites and in order to accommodate larger ships the Maasgeul has been widened to over 800 meters. In the first video the Maasvlakte 2 can be seen, just as it went operational in 2013. Industrial activity still has to develop in this area, so a surreal "empty" landscape can be seen, where only (rail)roads have been built yet. The second video continues the journey on the Maasvlakte 2 back towards the previous area, Maasvlakte 1. This area has been developed since the 1970s and has reached its maximum potential. Driving along the highway A15 we can see Europoort, which is a section of the Rotterdam port that existed even before the Maasvlakte 1 area was built.Car used: BMW X5 xDrive30d LCI (E70 / MY2012) allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/nrrYi7VYPLI?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' /> allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/jKboHeuBzYA?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />More episodes of "the co-drivers view":The co-drivers view: Berlin (2010)The co-drivers view: Utrecht (2010)The co-drivers view: Police escort in the Hague (2010)The co-drivers view: Trip to Italy (2010)The co-drivers view: Nijmegen (2010)The co-drivers view: Münsterland (2010)The co-drivers view: Heidelberg (2011)The co-drivers view: Sunday on the Autobahn (2011)The co-drivers view: Central Germany (2011)The co-drivers view: Deventer (2011)The co-drivers view: Amsterdam ringroad A1 / A9 / A2 (2011) The co-drivers view: Hamburg Elbtunnel (2011)The co-drivers view: Dutch army on the move (2011)The co-drivers view: the Hague (2011)The co-drivers view: Ringroad Eindhoven (2011)The co-drivers view: Oldenburg (2011)The co-drivers view: Arnhem (2011)The co-drivers view: A12 Utrecht (2012)The co-drivers view: Rotterdam (2012)The co-drivers view: Autobahn A2 (2012)The co-drivers view: the Dutch countryside (2012)The co-drivers view: Veluwe (2012)The co-drivers view: Hamburg (2012)The co-drivers view: Osnabrück / Autobahn A30 (2012)The co-drivers view: Berlin (2012)The co-drivers view: driving fast on the Autobahn (2013)The co-drivers view: Kampen (2013)The co-drivers view: Oxford (2013)The co-drivers view: Bremen (2013)The co-drivers view: Amsterdam (2013)Guitigefilmpjes[...]

Since June 2013 BMW offers the 3-series Gran Turismo (F34) as part of the 3-series offering, that already consisted of the saloon (F30) and touring (F31). Intented as a mix between the saloon and touring, the Gran Turismo also feated characteristics of a coupé. Compared to the other models of the 3-series line, the Gran Turismo is considerably larger and can be compared to the 5-series Touring, but is a smaller and sportier version of the 5-series Gran Turismo. However it features the same interior design and platform as that of the regular 3-series. This specific car is a BMW 318d with the (optional) Luxury Line package. The car itself has Black Sapphire Metallic paint and Black Dakota leather. Model (Code / Model Year): BMW 318d Gran Turismo (2013 / F34)Line: Luxury LineEngine: straight four-cylinder turbocharged common rail diesel engine (1995cm³)  Transmission: 8-speed automatic transmissionPerformance: 143hp / 320nm0 to 100km/h: 9,6 secTop speed: 210km/h (131mp/h)BMW 318d Gran Turismo  Walkaround - Exterior and interior shots of the car allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/-n0cdLc4A7Q?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />BMW 318d Gran Turismo Fuel Consumption Test - testing the fuel consumption under real life conditions allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/ithG7kh4auY?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' /> BMW 318d Gran Turismo Acceleration - Acceleration test from 0km/h allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/G4mtPaMEzV8?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />BMW 318d Gran Turismo Flatout - Putting the pedal to the metal on the German Autobahn allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/o28jM9FdTdo?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />Guitigefilmpjes[...]

Picture update: BMW X5 xDrive30d LCI (2012 / E70)

Sat, 21 Dec 2013 10:51:00 +0000

In 2006 BMW introduced its second generation X5 (in the US, in Europe in 2007), known by its BMW code "E70", and has been in production from 08/2006 till 08/2013. It was preceded by the E53 (1999 - 2006) and has succeeded by the new X5 F15 (since 2013). Production of the E70 took place in Spartanburg, United States, but kits have also been assembled in Toluca, Mexico and by Avtovor in Kaliningrad, Russia. The BMW X5 E70 underwent a "Life Cycle Impulse" (LCI) update in 2010, which debuted at the New York Auto show in April 2010. Changes included revised styling, primarily of the front and rear bumpers, air intakes and headlights, but also included new exterior and interior colours and BMW's latest infotainment system. Apart from these changes a new range of engines was also introduced, while other engines received updates and the new 8-speed automatic gearbox was available for the X5.In this post we take a closer look at a 2012 BMW X5 xDrive30d LCI and compare it to a pre-LCI BMW X5 3.0d, but equipped with the (optional) M-package. On the left a pre-LCI X5 and on the right an X5 that already has the LCI specifications, which include revised spoilers and different angel eyes (instead of beige they are white). Model (Code / Model Year): BMW X5 xDrive30d LCI (2012 / E70)Engine: straight-six diesel engine (2993cm³) with variable geometry turbochargers  / engine code: N57D30OLTransmission: 8-speed automatic transmissionPerformance: 245hp (180kW) / 540nm0 to 100km/h: 7,6 secTop speed: 222km/h (139mp/h)Weight: 2125–2380 kgFuel tank (US gallons): 85 liter (22,5 US gallons)Production date: August 2008, Spartanburg USA2012 BMW X5 xDrive30d:Exterior colour: Alpine white (300)Upholstery: Tobacco Nevada leather (LUF1)Interior trim: Fine-wood trim bamboo grain darkWheels: 19-inch styling 223M alloy wheels (part of the M-package)Most notable changes compared to the pre-LCI (left) are the different exhaust pipes and the introduction of the L-shaped LED-taillights.Most notable changes in the interior is the new software and the new iDrive controller that features more buttons that take you to the respective menu. Optional equipment:The optional M-package includes the following equipment:Interior trim fine-wood bamboo grain dark, Exterior aluminium, roof rails high-gloss aluminium, 19-inch alloys styling 223M, comfort seats with memory, anthracite headliner, M sport steering wheel (with paddle shifters), M sport bumpers, special exhaust pipes, Adaptive Drive suspensionAlpine white exterior colourTobacco Nevada leatherTobacco Nevada leather with fine-wood trim bamboo grain darkM-sport steering wheel with paddle shifters19-inch styling 223M alloy wheelsOval exhaust pipes are part of the M-package, otherwise they are only fitted to the X5 4.8i or xDrive50i (V8 petrol engines)Sport seats come standard with the M-package, but for a small price it is possible to upgrade to comfort seatsSeparate optional equipment:Active steeringAdaptive Drive*Automatic tailgate operationComfort accessSoft-close automatic doorsBackup camera and Top viewPanoramic glass sunroofExtended storage packageSunblinds for side windowsFloor mats, veloursExterior and interior mirrors - folding, auto-Rear-view mirror, auto dimmingSmokers packageComfort seats with memory*Ski bagLumbar support, driver and passengerStorage packageSeat heating driver / passengerSeat heating, rearHeadlight washXenon headlightsAdaptive headlightsAutomatic air conditioningAuxiliary heatingCruise control with brake functionLight packageSupplementary 12v socketsHigh-beam assistantPark Distance Control and backup cameraPark Distance Control and top view cameraNavigation system Professional - with bluetooth preperationBMW AssistInternet, preparationsExpanded BMW Online InformationBMW OnlineBMW TeleSer[...]

The co-drivers view: Amsterdam

Fri, 06 Dec 2013 06:00:00 +0000

The videos have been made during the summer of 2013 on a friday afternoon and the first part starts in the northern part of Amsterdam. It is north of the "IJ" lake that divides Amsterdam north from the city centre, but is connected through the IJ-tunnel that we cross. After exiting the tunnel we take a left away from the city centre and drive onto the Kattenburgerstraat alongside the naval barracks on the left. After that we turn left again onto the Piet Heinkade driving next to the IJ lake we just crossed below. In the second video we continue driving on the Piet Heinkade towards the central station of Amsterdam, where the street is called the De Ruijterkade. Next to the central station a new bus station is build so that it is possible to switch from bus to trains inside the same structure. After having passed the central station we turn left towards the city centre and finally into the city centre through the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. The last video is shot while driving through the busy city centre of Amsterdam and leaving the centre driving east.Car used: BMW 530d xDrive Touring (F11 / MY2012) allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/K66-E5VvlCI?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' /> allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/vhdkvLXEXBA?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' /> allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/80G7G7WDwqI?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />More episodes of "the co-drivers view":The co-drivers view: Berlin (2010)The co-drivers view: Utrecht (2010)The co-drivers view: Police escort in the Hague (2010)The co-drivers view: Trip to Italy (2010)The co-drivers view: Nijmegen (2010)The co-drivers view: Münsterland (2010)The co-drivers view: Heidelberg (2011)The co-drivers view: Sunday on the Autobahn (2011)The co-drivers view: Central Germany (2011)The co-drivers view: Deventer (2011)The co-drivers view: Amsterdam ringroad A1 / A9 / A2 (2011) The co-drivers view: Hamburg Elbtunnel (2011)The co-drivers view: Dutch army on the move (2011)The co-drivers view: the Hague (2011)The co-drivers view: Ringroad Eindhoven (2011)The co-drivers view: Oldenburg (2011)The co-drivers view: Arnhem (2011)The co-drivers view: A12 Utrecht (2012)The co-drivers view: Rotterdam (2012)The co-drivers view: Autobahn A2 (2012)The co-drivers view: the Dutch countryside (2012)The co-drivers view: Veluwe (2012)The co-drivers view: Hamburg (2012)The co-drivers view: Osnabrück / Autobahn A30 (2012)The co-drivers view: Berlin (2012)The co-drivers view: driving fast on the Autobahn (2013)The co-drivers view: Kampen (2013)The co-drivers view: Oxford (2013)The co-drivers view: Bremen (2013)Guitigefilmpjes[...]

The co-drivers view: Bremen

Tue, 09 Jul 2013 08:58:00 +0000

Bremen is a Hanseatic city in northern Germany, a commercial and industrial important location with a major port on the river Weser. Together with the city of Bremerhaven the are the state of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen - called Freie Hansestadt Bremen in German -, one of three city states in the structure of federal states in Germany (the other are Hamburg and Berlin). Bremen (the city) has a population of approximately 550.000 inhabitants, making it the tenth largest city of Germany. The video itself was made in March 2013 on a sunday morning and starts in the city centre. As the city was heavily damaged after world war 2, only the most important historic buildings have been rebuild, but most of the ordinary buildings that were destroyed during the bombing raids have been replaced with newer buildings during the 50s and 60s. After leaving the city centre we turn onto federal highway 6 that takes us to the outskirts of the city.Car used: BMW 520d (F10 / MY2012) allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/UZysU-0YvZg?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />More episodes of "the co-drivers view":The co-drivers view: Berlin (2010)The co-drivers view: Utrecht (2010)The co-drivers view: Police escort in the Hague (2010)The co-drivers view: Trip to Italy (2010)The co-drivers view: Nijmegen (2010)The co-drivers view: Münsterland (2010)The co-drivers view: Heidelberg (2011)The co-drivers view: Sunday on the Autobahn (2011)The co-drivers view: Central Germany (2011)The co-drivers view: Deventer (2011)The co-drivers view: Amsterdam ringroad A1 / A9 / A2 (2011) The co-drivers view: Hamburg Elbtunnel (2011)The co-drivers view: Dutch army on the move (2011)The co-drivers view: the Hague (2011)The co-drivers view: Ringroad Eindhoven (2011)The co-drivers view: Oldenburg (2011)The co-drivers view: Arnhem (2011)The co-drivers view: A12 Utrecht (2012)The co-drivers view: Rotterdam (2012)The co-drivers view: Autobahn A2 (2012)The co-drivers view: the Dutch countryside (2012)The co-drivers view: Veluwe (2012)The co-drivers view: Hamburg (2012)The co-drivers view: Osnabrück / Autobahn A30 (2012)The co-drivers view: Berlin (2012)The co-drivers view: driving fast on the Autobahn (2013)The co-drivers view: Kampen (2013)The co-drivers view: Oxford (2013)Guitigefilmpjes[...]

Picture update: BMW X1 xDrive18d LCI (2013 / E84)

Sat, 06 Jul 2013 11:43:00 +0000

BMW's smallest member of the SUV family is the BMW X1, which is a "compact luxury crossover SUV". Introduced in 2009, production first started at the Leipzig plant in October 2009 and later expanded to plants in Chennai (India), Shenyang (China), and Kaliningrad (Russia). BMW does not produce complete X1's in Chennai and Kaliningrad but rather assembles knock-down kits (CDK's).The BMW X1 shares its platform with the old BMW 3-series Touring (E91) and the BMW X3, which is most notable in the interior, that is reminiscent of the Bangle-interior in the previous generation 1- and 3-series, for example the location of the cruise control on a seperate handle instead of the steering wheel. In 2012 BMW introduced the facelift - Life Cycle Improvement (LCI) - for the X1. Only minor changes have been made to the exterior, for example the headlights got blue angel eyes and an "LED-eyebrow" instead of the old yellow angel eyes, and the "Sport Line" and "xLine" packages have been made available. More changes have been made by introducing new engines and several smaller technological improvements. This blog features a BMW X1 xDrive18d LCI with the "Sport Line" package, with a complete list of all the options in this particular car and many pictures. Model (Code / Model Year): BMW X1 xDrive18d LCI (2013 / E84)Engine: four-cylinder TwinPower-Turbo diesel engine (1995cm³)  Transmission: 6-speed manual transmissionPerformance: 143hp / 320nm0 to 100km/h: 9,6 secTop speed: 202km/h (126mp/h)Weight: 1555kgFuel tank (US gallons): 61 liter (16,1 US gallons)€32.900,00 BMW X1 xDrive18d€660,00 Glacier Silver metallic€0,00 Wing mirror caps Glacier Silver€0,00 18-inch Star-spoke style 320 light alloy wheels*€0,00 Anthracite Median cloth upholstery with Coral Red highlights*€0,00 Black trim, high-gloss** Included in the Sport Line package€1.900,00 Sport Line:€650,00 18-inch Star-spoke style 320 light alloy wheels€-,-- Black trim, high-gloss€-,-- Anthracite Median cloth upholstery with Coral Red highlights€-,-- Sport Steering wheel€-,-- Sport seats€-,-- Floor mats, velour€2.550,00 Total Price "Sport Line"€190,00 BMW Emergency call€---,-- BMW Teleservices€610,00 Automatic Air Conditioning€250,00 Servotronic Steering€1.350,00 Panoramic glass sunroof€290,00 Extended storage€150,00 Armrest, front with sliding adjustment€130,00 Rain sensor with automatic headlight activation€340,00 Cruise control with brake function€---,-- Model designation deletion€300,00 Roof rails, matt aluminium€950,00 Electric Front Seats + Driver Memory€330,00 Seat heating, front€1.390,00 Navigation System Business€---,-- Voice Control€---,-- Bluetooth hands-free with USB audio interface€170,00 Rear-view mirror, auto dimming€450,00 Park Distance Control (PDC), rear€280,00 Headlight wash€600,00 Xenon headlights€---,-- Foglights, front€40,00 Passenger airbag dectivation, frontTotal price in Germany: €43.930,-* *Prices are the German prices in July 2013Some pro's and con's on the BMW X1 xDrive18d LCI:Pro:Sport Line package is good value for money, apart from the options it also has many nice design featuresExcellent sport seatsAdequate amount of space inside of the car, compared to other "compact" cars like the 1-seriesBluetooth connection for both the phone and MP-3 function works perfectlyCon:Relatively high fuel consumptionSteep price --> a comparable 3-series Touring has more to offerOld technology of the previous generationLocation of the USB-connection in the center console instead of armrest, makes the car look untidy if t[...]

Video update: BMW X1 xDrive18d LCI (2013 / E84)

Wed, 03 Jul 2013 17:38:00 +0000

In July 2012 BMW gave its smallest SUV a facelift - BMW calls it the "Life Cycle Improvement (LCI)" - in order to align its technology and optics with the current generation BMWs. Although the facelift is barely noticable from the outside, it features updated headlights with blue angels eyes instead of the yellow ones, significant technological changes have been made. These include new engines and extra options, the introduction of the Sport and xLine-packages and updates to the powertrain.

This blog features movies about a BMW X1 xDrive18d LCI / Facelift with the Sport Line package, including a walkaround, fuel consumption test and flatout.

    Fuel consumption: BMW 335i xDrive F30 / 318d Touring F31

    Mon, 24 Jun 2013 15:25:00 +0000

In the post few blogs, we have posted a car review on the BMW 335i xDrive and a set of pictures on the BMW 318d Touring, both belonging to the new generation 3-series that is internally know as the "F30 / F31".Guitigefilmpjes has hit the road with both the 335i xDrive F30 and 318d Touring F31 in order to see how the fuel economy is when driving in real life circumstances and if the engines live up to its expectations. Technical details can be found below:Model designation: 335i xDriveEngine: N55B30 6-cylinder TwinPower-Turbo petrol engine (2979 cm³) Transmission: 8-speed sport automatic transmissionPerformance: 306hp (225kW) / 400nm0 to 100km/h: 5,0secTop speed: 250km/h (155mp/h)Fuel tank (US gallons): 60 liters (15.85 US gallons)Fuel consumption depends on many different factors, like the tire pressure / size of alloy wheels, the weight of the car (4 people with bagage or travelling alone). The driving profile is the most important determinant of the result. Therefore you can find the driving profile during this trip below:350 kilometers (310 miles) Autobahn at high speeds, 180km/h and more400 kilometers (125 miles) Autobahn between 100km/h and 130km/h 170 kilometer secondary road between 80km/h and 100km/h17 kilometer city traffic in normal conditions, outside rush hoursThe total trip was 937 kilometers (586 miles), and in contrast to previous tests where I tried to achieve the best possible consumption, this time I had some more fun while accelerating and used the "sport-mode" on a regular basis, leading to a higher consumption. Driving more considerate could probably results in a consumption of 1,5l / 100km to 2,0l / 100km lower then below.Driving this way has resulted in an average fuel consumption of 11,2l / 100km (21mpg US) as calculated by the car itself, but it is well known that trip computers tend to understate the actual fuel consumption. After having calculated the consumption manually, I found a result of 11,78l / 100km, a difference of 0,58l / 100km or 5,2%. Model designation: 318d TouringEngine: 4-cylinder diesel engine (1995 cm³) Transmission: 6-speed manual transmissionPerformance: 143hp / 320nm0 to 100km/h: 9,2secTop speed: 210km/h (131mp/h)Fuel tank (US gallons): 57 liters (15.1 US gallons)In the past, cars with a manual transmission were considered to have superior fuel economy compared to their counterparts with an automatic transmission. Nowadays, it is the other way around, as the manual transmission only has six gears while the automatic transmission has eight.  When driving this BMW 318d Touring, I had the following driving profile. Opposite to the 335i xDrive above, I was driving the 318d in such a way that saves more fuel, though a more stricter driving style could have saved just a bit (o,5l ~ 1,0l / 100km) more fuel.300 kilometers (310 miles) Autobahn at high speeds, 180km/h+900 kilometers (125 miles) Autobahn between 100km/h and 130km/h 260 kilometer secondary road between 80km/h and 100km/h27 kilometer city traffic in normal conditions, outside rush hourResulting in a fuel consumption of 6.4l / 100km or 36,8mpg (US) after having drivin 1487 kilometers (929 miles). After having calculated the consumption manually, the result was only slightly higher, being 6,51l / 100km or 36,13mpg (US).Previous fuel consumption reports:Audi A4 2.0 TDI / Audi A6 3.0 TDI / Mercedes Benz E220 CDIBMW 530d xDrive / Mercedes Benz C220 CDIMercedes Benz C180 / VW Passat 1.4 TSI / BMW 520d TouringAudi A6 3.0 TDI 204hp (MY2012 / C7)Mercedes[...]

    The co-drivers view: Oxford

    Sat, 22 Jun 2013 11:07:00 +0000

Oxford is a city in the United Kingdom - in central southern England - with a population of just under 165.000, of whom 153.900 live within the district boundary. The city is well known for its university, but also the car production plant that produces the new Mini. Buildings in Oxford contain architecture of nearly every English architectural period after the arrival of the Saxons.Typical for traffic in the United Kingdom is driving on the left side of the road. This experience is different for every person, but one is getting used to driving on the left fairly quickly. Other road users, the traffic signs and many other elements on the road all point towards the direction one should drive, guiding the (continental) driver into the right direction in a natural way.In the first video we start in the northern outskirts of Oxford and drive towards the city centre. After having drivin on the ring road that is part of the A40, we turn right on the roundabout and continue to the centre of Oxford on Banbury Road.  Our journey continues in the second part of the video in which we drive through the historic city centre of Oxford. Here we also turn into High Street (at 5:00) which runs between Carfax (city centre) and the Magdalen Bridge to the east. It forms a gentle curve, features many historic buildings and is the most popular street of Oxford. Car used: BMW 520d (F10 / MY2013) allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/GNtXFc0gZdQ?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />Driving from the outskirts towards the centre of OxfordDriving in the city centre of OxfordMore episodes of "the co-drivers view":The co-drivers view: Berlin (2010)The co-drivers view: Utrecht (2010)The co-drivers view: Police escort in the Hague (2010)The co-drivers view: Trip to Italy (2010)The co-drivers view: Nijmegen (2010)The co-drivers view: Münsterland (2010)The co-drivers view: Heidelberg (2011)The co-drivers view: Sunday on the Autobahn (2011)The co-drivers view: Central Germany (2011)The co-drivers view: Deventer (2011)The co-drivers view: Amsterdam ringroad A1 / A9 / A2 (2011) The co-drivers view: Hamburg Elbtunnel (2011)The co-drivers view: Dutch army on the move (2011)The co-drivers view: the Hague (2011)The co-drivers view: Ringroad Eindhoven (2011)The co-drivers view: Oldenburg (2011)The co-drivers view: Arnhem (2011)The co-drivers view: A12 Utrecht (2012)The co-drivers view: Rotterdam (2012)The co-drivers view: Autobahn A2 (2012)The co-drivers view: the Dutch countryside (2012)The co-drivers view: Veluwe (2012)The co-drivers view: Hamburg (2012)The co-drivers view: Osnabrück / Autobahn A30 (2012)The co-drivers view: Berlin (2012)The co-drivers view: driving fast on the Autobahn (2013)The co-drivers view: Kampen (2013)Guitigefilmpjes[...]

    The co-drivers view: Kampen

    Tue, 14 May 2013 10:20:00 +0000

Kampen is a municipality that counts 50,073 inhabitants (as of 2010) - the city itself has 34.063 inhabitans located in the Dutch province of Overijssel. In the video we drive over two bridges, as Kampen is located next to the river IJssel, which also is the reason why the city has a Hanseatic background (a commercial and defensive confederation of merchant guilds and market towns that dominated the trade in Northern Europe). Kampen has a well preserved historical town centre that includes remains of the ancient city wall (with three gates still standing) and numerous churches. In the first video we start at the new train station "Kampen Zuid" near the newly build Hanzelijn that runs from Lelystad to Zwolle. After leaving the train station we turn onto the newly build roads including the "turbo-roundabouts" that include extra lanes to seperate traffic and accommodate the traffic flow. After having crossed the rivier IJssel twice we turn towards the historic city centre of Kampen. Our journey continues in the second part of the video in which we drive through the historic city centre of Kampen. Many old buildings, the city wall, old gates that used to be the entrance to the city and small roads define the structure of this area. Car used: BMW X1 xDrive18d (E84 / MY2013) allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/Qj5ScRX2MUU?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />The co-drivers view: Kampen part 1 allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/f7tXyrMg2ck?feature=player_embedded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />The co-drivers view: Kampen part 2More episodes of "the co-drivers view":The co-drivers view: Berlin (2010)The co-drivers view: Utrecht (2010)The co-drivers view: Police escort in the Hague (2010)The co-drivers view: Trip to Italy (2010)The co-drivers view: Nijmegen (2010)The co-drivers view: Münsterland (2010)The co-drivers view: Heidelberg (2011)The co-drivers view: Sunday on the Autobahn (2011)The co-drivers view: Central Germany (2011)The co-drivers view: Deventer (2011)The co-drivers view: Amsterdam ringroad A1 / A9 / A2 (2011) The co-drivers view: Hamburg Elbtunnel (2011)The co-drivers view: Dutch army on the move (2011)The co-drivers view: the Hague (2011)The co-drivers view: Ringroad Eindhoven (2011)The co-drivers view: Oldenburg (2011)The co-drivers view: Arnhem (2011)The co-drivers view: A12 Utrecht (2012)The co-drivers view: Rotterdam (2012)The co-drivers view: Autobahn A2 (2012)The co-drivers view: the Dutch countryside (2012)The co-drivers view: Veluwe (2012)The co-drivers view: Hamburg (2012)The co-drivers view: Osnabrück / Autobahn A30 (2012)The co-drivers view: Soesterberg (2012)The co-drivers view: Berlin (2012)The co-drivers view: driving fast on the Autobahn (2013)Guitigefilmpjes[...]

    Fuel consumption: 520d / 525d xDrive Touring

    Sun, 14 Apr 2013 12:27:00 +0000

In 2010 BMW introduced its current 5-series, internally designated as the "F10" (sedan) and "F11" (Touring). Guitigefilmpjes has hit the German Autobahn with both the 520d F10 and 525d xDrive Touring F11 in order to see how the fuel economy is when driving at high speeds and if the engines live up to its expectations. Technical details can be found below:Engine: 4-cylinder diesel engine (1995 cm³) Transmission: 8-speed automatic transmissionPerformance: 184hp / 380nm0 to 100km/h: 8,1secTop speed: 227km/h (142mp/h)Fuel tank (US gallons): 70 liters (18.5 US gallons)Fuel consumption depends on many different factors, among the tire pressure / size of alloy wheels, the weight of the car (4 people with bagage or travelling alone), the driving profile is the most important determinant of the result. Therefore you can find the driving profile during this trip below:500 kilometers (310 miles) Autobahn at high speeds, 180km/h and more200 kilometers (125 miles) Autobahn between 100km/h and 130km/h 150 kilometer secondary road between 80km/h and 100km/h45 kilometer city traffic in normal conditions, outside rush hoursThe total trip compromised of 895 kilometers (560 miles), and in contrast to previous tests where I tried to achieve the best possible consumption, this time I drove to travel as fast as possible (sticking to speed limits where they apply). Driving at high speeds always leads to a higher consumption, but in the 520d the relatively small engine has to work hard to power the heavy 5-series. This has resulted in an average fuel consumption of 8,7l / 100km (27mpg US), which is a far cry from the 5,4l / 100km (43,6mpg US) when trying to drive as economically as possible. Engine: 4-cylinder diesel engine (1995 cm³) Transmission: 8-speed automatic transmissionPerformance: 218hp / 450nm0 to 100km/h: 7,2secTop speed: 236km/h (148mp/h)Fuel tank (US gallons): 70 liters (18.5 US gallons)As new government regulations tax CO2-emissions increasingly heavier, car manufacturers are looking for new ways to cut these. Efficient Dynamics was introduced by BMW several years ago to reduce both fuel consumption and CO2-emissions, so that they would fall into the lower green A- and B-labels that are obligatory in Europe (these labels measure fuel consumption, where the green A-label is the best, and the red G-label the "worst"). By falling in these lower categories, many countries offer tax discounts on these "green" vehicles, making them financially attractive to many customers.Downsizing is another method used to cut CO2-emissions and fuel consumption. Many car manufacturers, especially in Europe, are replacing engines with smaller engines that use a turbocharger to maintain the same level of performance. BMW has done the same with the 525d, when the 5-series was introduced in 2010 it still features a 6-cylinder 3.0 liter engine. In 2012 it was replaced by a 4-cylinder 3.0 liter engine, the same in the 520d but then with an added TwinPower Turbo (Two-in-one turbocharger). On paper the figures look good, the engine becomes more efficient while even increasing performance (204hp against 218hp now). However, in reality there are some drawbacks to downsizing. As the 4-cylinder engine is smaller, it has to work harder and shift more often to achieve the same acceleration and speed as a larger 6-cylinder engine. In Germany te[...]
