Chic in Miami: Soho Beach House

When Stefan and I were in Miami, we stayed at the Soho Beach House in Miami Beach.  It is the perfect place for those who want to stay in a quieter and less over the top hotel.  It felt like we were staying in a friend's home. Before I show you the hotel itself, I thought I would start with our room and the chic hallways.  Martin Brudnizki designed the hotel but I was told that all the special

Erika's Home & Nursery Tour...(Via Made By Girl)

She told me she had more to share &

Lily of Birch + Bird: Home Tour...(Via Made By Girl)

Hello everyone! I've been pretty busy ever since my family arrived in town this weekend! I haven't had time to breathe...but instead have been playing tourist. I'm sure some of you know how that goes. Nonetheless, it's great to see my mother, it's been a year since I've seen her! Hope you're weekend went well & that you got lots of things done. Not sure how the weather is in your area, but here

Chic in Miami: Cecconi's

Someone called Cecconi's the most beautiful restaurant in Miami and I have to agree.  Lucky for Stefan and me, the restaurant was located in our hotel, the Soho Beach House.  We'll get to that later.  Designer Martin Brudnizki created a gorgeous oasis underneath Silver Buttonwood trees and bell jar hanging light fixtures.  The trees are also wrapped in white lights and the effect at night is

Chic Christian Louboutin Boutique

Since we have a few inches of snow on the ground in New York, I thought this might be a good time to post about warm and sunny Miami!  After the cruise docked, Stefan and I headed to the Design District in Downtown Miami.  In addition to furniture showrooms, the Design District is home to some very chic boutiques.  One that impressed me the most was Christian Louboutin at 155 NE 40th Street.

Bastian of Chic

I don't attend any men's fashion shows but if there was one I did decide to attend, it would be Michael Bastian.  I love his modern take on preppy male clothing.  His chic style also extends to his West Village apartment.  You might remember it from the September 2008 issue of Domino magazine.  It still looks just as good more than two years later and he is often still photographed at home.  Most

Chic and Cozy Cottage

It's a long holiday weekend and that means many people will be getting away.  Designer Stephen Shubel's chic fisherman's cottage in Sausalito looks like a chic yet cozy place spend some time off.  He describes it as being "like Marie Antoinette in a t-shirt...the past recreated for today."  He mixes French furniture with nautical touches that refer back to the cottage's seaside location.

Peek into My Guest Room...(Via Made By Girl)

Friday is finally here!! What will you be up to this weekend? Anything planned? As for me, my family will be in town. Very exciting because I finally finished the guest bedroom, (well, it's 98% finished) but still needs a piece of ART behind the bed I think. No? Maybe? Yes?My upholsterer delivered my WING Back last night, & I'm super HAPPY with the way it turned out! It makes the room look so

Bettina Ballard's Busy Day

New York Fashion Week has ended and now the editors are on their way to London if they are not there already.  After that, they will cover fashion week in Milan and finally Paris. In March 1951, Life magazine featured an article about  Vogue fashion editor Bettina Ballard entitled Bettina's Busy Day that followed the editor around Paris during fashion week in February 1951.  What amazed me is

The Front Row

I took this photo of the front row at Nanette Lepore from my seat and it is one of my favorite moments from fashion week. I don't know the name of the first blonde but the second is Joanna Hillman, senior fashion market editor of Harper's Bazaar.  She is sitting next to her colleague David Thielebeule, the senior accessories editor of Harper's Bazaar.  The last blonde is Kate Dimmock, fashion

My View at Derek Lam

Only fashion could get me up and out of the house at 8:00am on a chilly Sunday morning.  Estee Lauder was kind enough to invite me backstage at the Derek Lam show and I'm excited to share my behind the scenes experience with you.  It's amazing how much work goes into a ten minute runway show. Tom Pecheux, Estee Lauder Creative Makeup Director, was shown sketches and fabric swatches prior to the

Charlotte's Chic Homes

One of the events I couldn't make it to this week was shoe designer Charlotte Dellal's launch party at Bergdorf Goodman.  Her line named Charlotte Olympia is filled with vertigo inducing heels in bright colors and patterns.  After seeing images of her own home in London as well as that of her parents, I have a feeling that she must be inspired by these interiors and amazing art collection.

Morgan's Home Tour...(Via Made By Girl)

Morgan Laske was one of the lovelies that submitted her home to share with all of you! The one thing that stood out to me was super cute bar area! I love that bamboo sideboard!  It's a piece I wish I could add to my home, but I just don't think it fits in within the whole scheme of things! Darn.It looks SUPER CHIC, I've even seen them up for grabs on Ebay several times. Granted

My First 2006 (Via Made by Girl)

Today I was looking at my archives and came across my first post EVER from 2006. It's kind of cute & funny...I had zero comments. One month later I posted on my blog again. Back then I really wasn't serious about it, but I soon realized how important of a tool it was for me & my business. Get what I mean?  I get a ton of emails all the time (some I answer & some I just never get to cause of lack

Chic at Fashion Week

I was telling someone recently that I will never be photographed by one of the fashion week street photographers.  I don't wear "fierce" shoes as my friend Jessica calls them or crazy outfits but that doesn't mean I can't photograph some of them.  I recognized French style blogger Garance Doré when I was leaving the tents at Lincoln Center Sunday and couldn't resist taking her photo. I also

NYFW Fall 2011: Tory Burch

We interrupt our vacation slide show to bring you a look at some of the fashion shows I have been attending this week. One of my favorites is always Tory Burch.  She always shows wearable yet interesting outfits with a hint of nostalgia that I can always imagine myself wearing. For Fall 2011, she told WWD that her inspiration was "the outdoors meets texture and subtle sex appeal, with a nod to

Cuffs By Unearthed...(Via Made by Girl)

I came across Unearthed last week & had to share these! I really loved ALL their products, especially the cuffs. They have really interesting ones you normally don't see in your everyday stores. All are HANDMADE, which is pretty cool! Unearthed is based out of  L.A. & they have a large collection of jewelry & cuffs in almost any color you could imagine.  I can't seem to pick a fave, I swear I

A Walk Through Nassau

Every designer whether they work with fashion or interiors will tell you that travel is the best source of inspiration.  No where was that more true than in Nassau.  The pink color of so many of the buildings looked  beautiful against the bright blue sky but everywhere I looked I saw a fabulous color.  I especially loved the bright red shutters on the stone house and the colorful mural above.

Pretty in Pink: Government House

After a brief reprieve yesterday, the weather is cold again.  What could be better to post today than the pink Government House in Nassau, Bahamas.  It makes me think back to that 80 degree day and all the lovely Bahamians who wished us good day as we passed them.  Hope you have a good day too! Photo looking down to Nassau Harbour in 1941.  There were no cruiseships back then! Photos by Heather

MY Guy & Valentine's Day...(Via Made By Girl)

There's something really SPECIAL about a man who shows his LOVE for a woman. Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to marry a 'GOOD' man who showed the world he loved me. I went through MANY CRUSHES including one on SPIDERMAN - that never went anywhere!Oh yes & RICKY Schroder, remember him?!?! (Silver Spoons). I even wrote Ricky a letter letting him know that I LOVED him & I was the girl for

Ralph Lauren at Sea

The most stunning space on the Marina was the Owner's Suite on the back of Deck 9.  It was decorated by Susan Bednar Long of S.B. Long Interiors in collaboration with Ralph Lauren Home.  It looked like the interior of an elegant yacht but was also comfortable and cozy.  The bedroom was one of the rooms that had to adapt to the rules regarding flammable materials.  Susan originally wanted to

Dakota Jackson at Sea

Since the Marina was fully booked, we were only able to see the designer rooms and suites while we were docked in Nassau.  Dakota Jackson designed a few suites and we peeked into two of them.  We weren't given any specific details about the rooms but I assume much of the furniture came from Dakota Jackson's own line.   It was interesting that many of the suites had their own work out equipment

Chic Ship Interiors

A few readers commented that they were impressed by the decor of our room on the Marina.  They weren't expecting it to look so nice.  If you thought that was impressive, wait until you see the public areas and restaurants.  Oceania Cruises bills themself as mid-luxury but after to speaking with the designers, it was clear that no expensive was spared on the interior design.  It was most

Oceania Cruises: They had me at Ahoy!

This cold weather is definitely making me wish I was still sailing on the Marina.  I don't think Stefan and I could have had a better first cruise experience and we owe it all to Oceania Cruises.  This was an inaugural christening cruise and there was copious amounts of music, dancing, champagne, fireworks, sunshine, and food!  Entertainment Tonight corespondent Mary Hart was on hand for the

I'm back!

I'm back from vacation! I had an amazing time on the Oceania inaugural cruise of their new ship Marina, exploring Nassau and Miami, staying at the Soho Beach House, and touring Vizcaya among other things. Most of all, I enjoyed the warm and sunny weather!  When I left Miami today it was 84 degrees.  When I arrived in New York it was 18 degrees.  Definitely back to cold reality.  I have over 1000

Office Update & Thoughts...(Via Made By Girl)

This is a pic I shot today of my office with the updated black wall behind the shelves. You can also slightly see the 108" white curtain panel to the left. That glass door goes out to a lovely 3rd story balcony.... very convenient when I want to get some fresh air during the daytime. I'm REALLY considering changing out the WHITE drapes to either black, an IKAT, or a thin-lined zebra pattern.

Erin's High-Rise Home Tour...(Via Made By Girl)

Today I'm bringing you high rise living. For the LONGEST guy & I wanted to move into a high rise apartment (prior to the place we live in now), but the lack of space killed the deal for us! However, when I look at places like this one below, I start to wonder! Erin, who authors the blog, Design in It sent over these AMAZING (love that word) pics of her pad in the sky. My first thought

Chic in Shades

I wanted to buy myself a new pair of sunglasses before my trip but ran out of time. I have a pair of Tom Ford gold aviator sunglasses that still look good but I feel like it's time for a change.  I have been debating on a pair of large Jackie O style shades or the new cat eye style.  There are so many chic sunglasses on the people in this post that I now want to buy one of everything!  Enjoy!

Governor of the Bahamas

Whether you like them or not, you have to admit that the Duke and Duchess of Windsor had style. During the Second World War, Winston Churchill installed the Duke of Windsor as the Governor of the Bahamas to keep him quiet so to speak.  So in 1940, Wallis and Edward sailed to Nassau.   Apparently Government House was in nearly derelict so the Windsors rented private homes until it was rebuilt.

One of the things I worked on this past weekend was my office bookshelf.  My husband suggested we paint the back of the bookshelf in 'black beauty' by Benjamin Moore... I agreed & TA DAAA!! Packing for Miami & Cruise

When I mentioned that I was booked on an Oceania cruise and trip to Miami, the first question many asked was whether I was going to post my outfits.  I often joke that if I ever write my autobiography, it will be subtitled, Confessions of an Overpacker, but laying everything out and planning each day's outfits really does help me pack smarter.  I think it's especially useful when you're traveling

Chic Sleeps: Lit a la Polonaise

I grew up with a canopy bed so I've had an aversion to them ever since.  If there was any bed that could make me change my mind about them, it's the 18th-century painted Louis XVI style bed above that is currently for sale at Le Louvre Antiques in Dallas.  It can also be called a lit a la polonaise (Polish bed) which is a bed that has uprights that support the canopy with curved iron bars hidden

Ever since my KITCHEN was finished.... I've been looking around for cute little ceramics that I could display & use. I have a collection of SEA SALTS, spices & other that could work well with ceramics, especially to display at dinner parties! Harabu House just might be a great source to satisfy those little desires!  I'll let Shilpa the owner of Harabu House tell you more about her shop..... NYIGF 2011: Ox Bow Decor

There are a lot of pillows at the NYIGF but one booth that made me stop for a closer look was Ox Bow Decor.  I really loved their pillows printed with architectural facades. All of their products are made in Massachusetts and they couldn't have been nicer which is always important.  Definitely check them out.  Photos by Heather Clawson for Habitually Chic

NYIGF 2011: A Few of My Favorite Things

While there was no new vendor at the NYIGF that knocked me off my feet, there were a lot of great new products and a lot fun colors.  The new backgammon table from oomph, above, is already a hot ticket item.  It doesn't come with a top but interior designer Elizabeth Bauer suggested covering it with a glass or clear plexi top so it can serve double duty as a dining table.  Don't forget that while

NYIGF 2011: Jonathan Adler

Since the Jonathan Adler booth is the first one I visit at the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF), I always like to start with the creative, colorful, and cheeky designer. Each year, I wonder what he will come up with next and of course he never disappoints.  I especially love table and pillow designs but the cutest piece has to be the mustache topped cork screw.  Very cheeky indeed! The Chic Catroux

It's interesting how you see some designers all over the place and some nowhere at all.  I wish we could see more work of the interior designer François Catroux.  Maybe staying under the radar and a lack of self promotion is a French thing or a European thing.  It's certainly, as we all know, not an American thing.  I think it's even more interesting since François Catroux's wife Betty was a

Gift Show Guide

I'm getting ready to visit the New York International Gift Fair on Sunday and thought I'd share some of my favorite booths at Pier 94.  Bungalow 5, above, is booth #45000 and their colorful furniture and accessories are always a hit.  If you can't make it, you can also check out their new showroom in New York at 215 West 30th Street. Oomph # 41005 continues to add new products to their colorful

Adore Magazine British Edition...(Via Made by Girl)

Again, MadeByGirl (me!) is featured in Adore Magazine! I love this mag which is published by  Australian Designer,  Loni Parker. This issue is The British Edition, and includes several cool British or British inspired items! Geez, did I just say British 4 times in a row?!?!? My goodness. If you keep flipping through the pages, you'll see that Adore included me in a section called, "Blog Loving",

Mar Silver Design...(Via Made By Girl)

I came across Mar Silver a few weeks ago & I swear this woman knows how to put a room together. She uses LARGE scale art which I love and try to do in my own home. Let's face it, large pieces of art, can cost a ton of money but sometimes you come across one you REALLY love that you MUST have. Also, not all of US are artistically inclined or have the TIME to sit down & paint, so buying one from an

Mystery Solved!

A big thanks to my readers who recognized that the room I posted last night was featured in Nuevo Estilo.  A little sleuthing unearthed the entire Barcelona apartment.  It doesn't say who owns it or the designer but you can read the entire article here. I do like color in my home but I also love this type of neutral decor.  The patina of the antiques and artwork softens the feel of the modern

One of those days

Today was one of those days.  Not terrible but not great.  After I decided on what to write about, I realized that two people recently posted the same topics.  Then I decided to go for a walk and encountered slush puddles on each street corner that were almost as tall as me.  So we're taking the night off.  Until then, I leave you with this photo that I cannot find a credit for anywhere.  Does

Anthropolgie & Weddings?...(Via Made By Girl)

Have you heard the news? Anthropologie will possibly be unveiling Wedding Dresses & accessories for that Special Day! This is such exciting NEWS since I'm a BIG fan of their store & CAN'T wait to see what it will look like. I can honestly say, I didn't see this coming from Anthro, but it's definitely a nice surprise! You'll have to go here on February 14th, Valentine's Day for the BIG debut! For
