Free Jordana lip gloss

Mon, 27 Jun 2011 15:15:00 +0000

Sometimes life will throw you some hard balls, but sometimes life will throw you a free lipgloss. When that happens, life doesn't seem so bad. Apparently, I entered a contest through seventeen magazine and won the Jordana lip gloss. The colour is so pretty: FYI. It smells really good and it goes on smooth. I love it! Even if I might be too mature for a seventeen magazine, they do have some good contests. And the best part about all of this is...I WON! I hardly ever win!

Your Beauty Gal,

My latest obsession

Sun, 26 Jun 2011 19:27:00 +0000

Now that summer has finally hit, I would like to share my latest obsession. Bright pastel multi colored nails! Sometimes its hard to decide on just one colour to wear. Especially when you are a colour lover like me... one colour just isn't enough. If you want multi colored nails like mine... Use this one rule: if you want dark green, use other like dark colors... if you want light pink, use light colors. Otherwise, your nails will look like a total mess!
Be creative and wild. Don't normally wear yellows? Try it, just for the sake of the season... I did! Hope you enjoy!

Your Beauty Gal,

A change... not so sure about this :o(

Thu, 21 Apr 2011 17:49:00 +0000

Ok for the first time in years, I have decided to break free from my usual long hair with blonde or brown color. Which is all I really knew my hair to look like. Then I started to experiment with more highlights and more layers. I gradually kept wanting to change the way my hair was just for the simple fact of me having the opportunity to now that I am in cosmetology school. Well, sometimes change isn't always for the better. To be perfectly honest... I got what I wanted and didn't realize that I wouldn't like it.

First, I cut my hair short... to my shoulders. Don't get me wrong, when it's styled, it is cute... but when it's not... IT'S NOT! lol Then I also decided that blonde wasn't what I wanted to be anymore... considering I have cool undertones in my skin and the blonde just brought out that in my skin... which isn't appealing by the way!
I chose a level 7 mocha brown. Like a golden brown. I wanted the golden brown with just a bit of natural highlights... and I was looking forward to it.

So, as I was trying to find a fellow cosmetology classmate to apply the color for me... I somehow changed my mind to put a level 6 brown red into my hair. Not thinking that having a cool tone face and warm tone hair would not look right... I went ahead and went from light light blonde to a dark brown red.

I kept looking at myself and for some reason I cannot convince myself that I like it. My instructor said that it would fade because I went from so light to so dark... which I understand. I wonder what it will look like then? I don't know... and I really don't want to find out. Here is a picture of my hair now. The lighting is not as good as I wanted but here it is:

Ok I love the color itself. But I do not love the color on me. It just doesn't suit me. I didn't realize HOW red it was going to turn out. My fiance doesn't like it at all... he took one look and came straight out and said, "I don't like it". Which, of course, made me defensive because it's my hair. All in all though... it takes me a night to decide if I love it or not. Now that I know how I feel about it, I want to change it right away.

I have NOTHING against brown reds, trust me, the color is beautiful! I am almost jealous that it doesn't look right on me. But like I said, it's not me.

By the way, I used Matrix SoColor 6BR if you enjoy the color.

Hope you enjoyed reading :o)

A Beautifull Makeover!!!

Wed, 19 Jan 2011 18:54:00 +0000

After several things happening at school while I wasn't there... you know all that bullshit drama that happens in high school... well it happens in beauty school as well. I have been down for a few days thinking about everything and have decided that it's all a waste of my time. It's just someone craving excitement in their lives so they want to bring someone down. It's ok though! Life wouldn't be complete without the haters... so I think I will just do Hair, Nails & Makeup to forget about it!

One of my good friends stopped by and basically gave me a sigh of relief. I saw her face and automatically knew that she would be there for me. And that was the greatest feeling ever... after all that hurt. Then, I realized, that her and I have never had conflict, never had any type of miss understandings. So, I thought that she deserves a little makeover!!! She loves when I do her hair and makeup.

Here is before:
The girl on the right is Olivia, and she is the one getting the makeover!!!

So basically, what I did to her hair is curled it, tweezed her eyebrows and applied makeup. Hope you like it!

Here is after:

She is so pretty!!!!

Here is another:

So after I was done, I couldn't believe how amazing she looked!!! I literally think that she could have put a really cute dress and heals on and would have been mistaken for a stunning celebrity on the red carpet!!!

I LOVE DOING MAKEOVERS!!! Especially doing before and after pictures!

I hope everyone likes this!!!

Basic, yet sassy, makeup tutorial

Mon, 10 Jan 2011 22:56:00 +0000

I've decided that it was time for me to do a very basic makeup tutorial. It is more of a step by step picture tutorial. I will also show a before and after picture to so you can see how big of a difference basic makeup can make :o) I hope you enjoy this post!First I applied moisturizer, which is VERY important for you skin and it also primes your skin for the makeup application. If you have dry skin and you put foundation on, most likely you will end up with noticeable dry spots and even having a cakey look. Which, is really not attractive lol :o)After moisturizer, I applied liquid foundation all over my face and neck. It is important to blend it well. Applying foundation on your neck insures that you don't look like you have a "mask" on. Once I have applied the liquid foundation, I then apply the powder foundation. This step helps A LOT in keeping your makeup on through out the day. Whenever putting liquid foundation on your face, you have to follow with powder to LOCK in the makeup and help in last longer!!!This is my foundation and powder picture:I don't look extremely excited in this picture because I was trying to get all of this done before my kids got home from daycare. So, please forgive me for not smiling lol :o)After the foundation and powder, you are going to want to give yourself some dimension. One way you can do that is by contouring and highlighting. Contouring is with a darker shade then your skin tone. Basically, you just apply it two to three inches below your cheek bone, work your way up to the sides of the face up to your temples and the corners of your forehead. Sooner or later I will be able to make videos instead of written instructions. Then, you will want to contour the sides of your nose lightly, just to give your nose a more slender look. That is basically it for contouring...Now, for the highlighting. You may use a very light blush or a white shimmer eyeshadow. I use both. Anyway, you are going to want to highlight the bridge of your nose lightly, the middle of your forehead where you didn't put your contour. Just above your cheek bones and right below the corner of your eyes, you will need to apply your highlight. This will give the illusion of dewy, bright skin! Also, apply your highlight to just a bit of your chin. Remember where you put your first contour? Two to three inches below your cheek bone? Well, SMILE!!! Then apply your blush slightly below the "apple" of your cheek. Make sure you do LIGHT strokes to prevent too much makeup being applied. Now, contouring and highlighting is DONE! Lets move onto the eye makeup! Make sure you always apply eyelid primer. This will insure that your eyeshadow doesn't crease and helps it last longer into the day! I put mine from eyelid up to the brow bone, just below the eyebrow. Let it dry. I began with a very light matte pink color for my base eyeshadow. I took that color up to my brow bone. Then I took my shimmery dark gray eyeshadow and lighting added my shadow to the corners of my eyes and slightly brought it outward towards my hairline... of course, don't go to your hairline. Make sure it is blended well and there's no major lines. Blending is key to making your eyeshadow look beautiful! Then I took a brighter pink color, still pretty light though, with shimmer and applied it to the inner corners of my eyes. This gives you a very bright, awake look! Once I have finished that, I took my white shimmer eyeshadow and applied just a bit right underneath the arch of my eyebrow and blended outward to blend with the gray eyeshadow.I also defined my eyebrows, but we won't worry about that right now. I didn't apply any eyeliner, just black eyeshadow to my outter lashline and lower outter lashline. Which gave me a more "cat eye" look. I applied my mascara on top and bottom of my lashes.I took a light pink-red lipgloss and applied it to the bottom lip first, then to the top. Now, I am finish!!!! Here is the finished look:Now that you've seen the steps.[...]

Purple in her hair!

Fri, 07 Jan 2011 22:12:00 +0000

Hey Everyone!
Today I trimmed up and my friends hair and put purple streaks in her hair. She already had some in there, but I put a few more in and added a little bit more purple to the faded ones. Then, I blow dried it and styled it.

Today seemed like it was going to last forever. I love getting my hair done at school. I especially like getting my hair colored. It's always fun.

On the car ride home from school, I was passing out. My friend, Danielle, was driving while I was falling a sleep. Now, as I write this, I feel like sleeping, but I can't because my kids are awake and can't be left to their own devices... scary! lol.
Now that I am able to get things done to my hair almost for free, I always want to do something to it. I guess I should just enjoy the pretty hair I have now for a while.

School was fun today, like always, I just hate waking up so early in the morning. Today, I woke up at 5:45am and WOW was I tired!!!

Well, I guess that's it! :o)

Suzzette The Makeup Artist :o)

Fri, 07 Jan 2011 01:58:00 +0000

Hey everyone,
Today, school was pretty awesome!!! I did a hairstyle for a competition at school, did my friends makeup and made her feel great (I love that!) and also did a haircut and style.
Yesterday, I actually had my hair colored. I got highlights and lowlights on the top and 3 Neutral on the bottom of my hair. So, the lowlights were 3 neutral as well. I really love my hair, and today, I got several compliments on my hair color! Here's pictures to show you:

I think the best investment could be purchasing a very good camera so that I can start taking pictures for my portfolio. That is another thing to add to my list of things that I need to make my career great.

Oh yeah, I waxed my friends eyebrows too. I'm not crazy about waxing but I will do it for friends and for money :o).

But anywho... I love my instructors, they are so sweet and I love how they help all the time. They aren't the type of instructors that act like you should know everything. They are humorous and I love having them check my work. Granted, there are some imperfections in my work but hey, I'm still learning.

Well, that's it for this post.

Super Cute Rose Rings!!!

Wed, 05 Jan 2011 23:28:00 +0000

Yesterday, I came across a picture on Facebook and fell in love with these rose rings! They are all homemade and one ring is never the same as another. They are so stunning for any kind of look. You can get any color you want, small, medium or large. The prices are very kind as well! The ring band is adjustable as well so there's no fussing with the "wrong" size. I have decided to interview her and her partner to see what started this passion to make homemade rose rings!1) What made you want to start making these rose rings?Heidi fell in love with kandee johnsons yellow rose ring, and looked everywhere to find one for herself and couldnt find one anywhere so decided to try and make one herself. Stacie met heidi shortly after and saw heidis designs and joined in on the action. Stacie is a big kandee fan as well so had to get in on this. Now we both make them.2) How long does it usually take to make one ring? They are handmade each one, each petal is shaped and formed by hand, its a process.3) How long have you been working from home?Heidi's been working from home for about a year, and stacie just started about 3 months ago.4) What is the prices of your products? The prices for our beautiful rings/earings/boppys range from $10-$205) What is your favorite part about working from home? Both me and heidi get the blessing to stay home with our children and we both agree thats the best part.6) What have you done in the past month to improve or promote your business? We have been trying to get the word out to kandee fans, as well as women who just love one of a kind handmade jewelery. No one will have the same design they all are unique.7) What advice would you like to share with a fellow work at home mom?The best advice I would say is find something you love to do, something that can be an outlet for you when the kids get tough. It makes both of us so happy when people look at the jewelery and fall in love, because we made them by hand and theres no better compliment.8) Are you thinking of expanding your product line?We would definitely consider expanding our product line, we already have some ideas floating around in our little heads. There are so many options. Even if you dont see a color you like on the site 99% of the time we have it so feel free to send us a question. We are excited to hear from all of you and hope you enjoy the beauty in these beautiful rings as we do. From our home to yours made with love.9) What's your website and how do you order? This is our website, you can go to the contact section of the site and send us an email with all your information and the order you would like to place. Feel free to ask us any questions even colors we dont have listed we most likely have. The options are endless. Please enjoy looking and thank you for taking the time. hope you enjoyed reading this interview and hope you have interest in the rose rings as much as I have. Thanks for reading :o)Please leave a comment~Suzzette Drake[...]

No School... Home for the day...

Tue, 04 Jan 2011 18:32:00 +0000

Hey everyone.

We had a long break for the Christmas and New Year holiday from school. Today was the day we were suppose to go back, I didn't go today because I've been having a really bad toothache and I couldn't work on people with the pain.
This would be my VERY FIRST day missing school and I hate that I didn't go, but I know that I wouldn't have been in the condition to work on clients. The last time I had my toothache at school I was literally about to cry my eyes out in front of a client and I know that is not how I want people to see me. Too depressing, they wouldn't want to come back to me... who wants a stylist whose in pain???

Anywho, I have decided to educate myself anyway, except from home. I am a very big fan of YouTube tutorials and love to learn new things. So, at least I will be learning something new, just not getting the hours for today, which stinks, but that's ok.

Tomorrow, for sure, I don't care how much pain I'm in (I'm hoping I'm not), I am going to school because I have a test to take and hours to earn.

Plus, I still have my old "Christmas" nail polish on and I need to change it! HAHA!

I love Cosmetology school... except one thing...

Getting a ride to school...

Trying to get a ride to school is like trying to get your child to eat all her veggies.

The surprising fact about getting a ride to school is that I haven't missed one day yet. I appreciate everyone who has helped me get to school, don't get me wrong, I just hate asking because it makes me feel like I'm asking too much.

The bright side is I will be getting a car soon. I just have to wait for the funds to come to me. OMG, I can't wait for that!

I wish there was transportation specifically for people who go to school. That would be wonderful!!!!

E.l.f. Makeup that I got for Christmas... Great products!!

Mon, 03 Jan 2011 04:04:00 +0000

I first heard about E.l.f. cosmetics when I was watching a YouTube video that Kandee Johnson had made and in it, she said something about E.l.f. makeup. By the way, Kandee Johnson is a celebrity makeup artist and she is my inspiration! Anywho, so I decided to check out their website to see what their prices looked like... and OMG, I could not believe how reasonable their prices are! Being that it was the Christmas season, my brother ended up letting me order some makeup that I wanted. And here are the things I had him order and what I think of them:This one, Jason actually got for me. E.l.f. eyeshadows are very nicely pigmented and I enjoy the playful colors they have in this palette.More beautiful eyeshadow colors by E.l.f. Can you believe this one was only $5? Good deals!I actually got this one for FREE with my order! Original price on it was $15! Woot woot!I had to get some fake eyelashes... who knows when I'll wear them, but it's nice to have 'em.This is a contouring and blush set... very beautiful colors. They shimmer just a bit to make the skin have a gorgeous glow! Clarifying Pressed Powder, makes skin look matte, covers and treats blemishes nicely!Cream Eyeliner... the BEST kind of eyeliner! You apply it with a angled edge eyeliner brush and it goes on so much better then the stick eyeliner...These lipgloss's have such beautiful colors and not too much pigment. I love these!!This is another FREE gift that I got from E.l.f. Very nice eyeshadow palette...These are my brushes that I got from E.l.f. They are $1 each, which is awesome... first is a crease brush, second is an eyeshadow brush and lastly the third one is an eyeliner brush. This is an eyebrow kit. The cream to fill in your eyebrows to define them. And the light powder to help make them look natural. I call this one my eyebrow perfecter! All eyeshadows need a little bit of "eyelid primer". Why? You ask... so the eyeshadow lasts longer and doesn't crease! Very good stuff!!!Shimmering facial whip! This stuff is amazing, you can use it as an eyeshadow, lip color or cheek color to give yourself that dewy summer glow. Absolutely stunning!Last, but certainly not least, Lengthening and Volumizing Mascara. It does not clump and separates the lashes nicely! So, this is my E.l.f. makeup collection. I am so glad I got it because now I have a lot more stuff to work with. Plus, I am in love with makeup. :o)If you see anything here that caught your interest, just click on the banner on the top right hand corner of my blog... you will see it, it says "E.L.F. eyes lips face"Or just click on this one right here:Please leave a comment :o)Thanks for reading!~Suzzette Drake[...]

Cosmetology School!

Sun, 02 Jan 2011 21:12:00 +0000

Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to let everyone know what my new blog is about. Well, here's the story.
I started doing my own nails just to save some money. I got pretty good at it and really started to enjoy doing it. So, I decided that I wanted to go to school for nails. But then, I thought, that doing JUST nails for the rest of my life would have been boring. So, I said, I might as well go to Cosmetology school where I can learn a lot of other things as well... Hair, Nails & Makeup. That brings me to the title of my blog :o)

So, now that I am in cosmetology school, I began to fall in love with this industry. More than I could have ever imagined! I never knew that my career is going to be doing hair, nails and makeup for the rest of my life. The sound of it makes me so eager to graduate! There are so many things you can do with becoming a Cosmetologist it's unbelievable.

I have been going to Cosmetology school for a few months now and I have learned so much already! We just recently "moved-up" from Junior class, to Senior class. Which basically means that we can work on the general public at school. AMAZING!  So far, I have been doing pretty well! I am also very confident of my skills... but I still have A LOT to learn.

I wanted to take time out of my life to share my cosmetology school experience with everyone. I hope you enjoy it! :o)

Thanks for reading!
