I like this excerpt because it brings a whole lot of ideas. First, the nature of a great leader is the way he/she is accepting defeat. The feeling of wanting to leave that current losing state to a victory stage of life. Second, is the hope that someday you will be victorious. And Lastly, the power of winning is not only on the team but to the leader first and foremost.

I personally had often settle for less than what is expected on me for that I respect people which do not settle for less than what is right and expected on them. The work that I did will not be perfect if not been for people who implements out-most care and prudence in checking and verifying what I did. The world will be better if people will establish a better management of life, work, government and congregations.

Factors that affect team's dedication in winning are:1. unity of vision - being on the same team doesn't mean that each person have the same vision. There are times that the leader should communicate the vision in such a way that it clearly demonstrate all the team members personal agenda and/or interest.2. diversity of skills- the team is comprise of different people with different upbringing, experience and education. It is proper to identify and make adjustment to make this attributes blend and work for the greater good of the team. And Lastly, dedication as a leader of raising people to their potential- The leader should have the most passion of winning and contributing the most of everything in the team. With this passion of raising people the leader will become a pillar of strength and persons will look upon for winning difficult situations.

How dedicated are you in winning? Your answer will most likely determine whether your team will win or lose.



Inhuman Practice- may God have mercy on us all

This week I would like to point that killing people is one of the most immoral thing people do. I have watch the news regarding three Filipinos are lined up for death sentence in China. Killing is not for us to decide, God give this life to us because He has a purpose for us. If we let this people kill other people - What are the difference of us human to animals?

Do I live what I teach? Do I practice what I’m cascading? This is especially hard if you are new in the company. I think one common mistake a leader does is implementing a vision which he/she doesn’t invest time for people to buy-in (or time to reflect on). The leaders will assume that people will follow the leader’s vision though they don’t know all about the leader.  I made this in the past months, I’m so busy cascading my vision with my current company which is rather wrong. This is wrong because first I’m new and there is no connection yet to most of the people in the company, second because I really don’t have the opportunity yet to make them trust me.The success of a leader is measured by the ability of the leader to actually take the people where they need to go. Do you make time for people to reflect on what your ideas are? Do they freely follow your vision as their leader?[...]

I admittedly am a shy person and that should be corrected as soon as possible to become more effective as a leader. Proper empowerment to people should always be my prime motivator and I can’t do it if I am shy and full of inhibitions.What followers expect to a leader: First, Leaders carefully analyzed every tactical situation because followers place there trust at leaders which are well adept and well informed of the situation. Second, Leaders maximize the resources that can be used because everything has limitation even resources. This shows how well a leader utilized the limited resources to the best it can be. Third, to think under pressure because leaders will always encounter situations which are hard and which are limited in time. Finally, Lead them by personal example; you cannot give what you do not have and what your personality reflects what people will be expecting you. Good leaders must communicate the vision clearly, creatively and continually. And they should more importantly live the vision. They are always aware of what they are setting up as example to others. In your house, who do you think is this person? A Very Tragic News that spread fear on Metro Manila

Today was a tragic day for the Philippines. A “Newman liner” bus explode in an area in Buendia, Makati City. The report said that 4 killed and 14 other person injured in the explosion. Makati Mayor Junjun Binay visited the Makati Hospital to check the status of some of the injured and very much saddened by the incident. He calls for people to be vigilant especially adding the fact that two suspect were been recognized which eventually escaped by dropping by an earlier bus stop station. This incident was another tragic event which people had recalled following the valentine bus bombing last 2005 happened in the Ayala, Makati. This also shows that they can go great length with me by there side and I will not be a hindrance to them.Insecure leaders will always be afraid of responsibility taking out of them. They can exert extra mile to secure there position and responsibility. I remember that I was that last year and NOW I'm trying to evaluate myself of responsibility that I should let go to give way to others which can learned and experience from the task.  I should always strive to empower my family, co-worker and friends. Today I learned that nobody does everything well. People should find people which can add value and make them a better person. Selecting people to come and be a part of my life should be a careful selection of different people with different attitude and experiences that can contribute to my whole-being.

Some qualifications that is worth mentioning are: First, people with influence to others, can add value to discussion, if possible, have decision-making position, have exerted to add value to you and to the organization and Lastly, will make a positive impact on other members of the inner circle.

We should start to find people which can add value and exert extra effort to find and maintain the people which have and have the potential to help us succeed and achieve our goals.



Connecting people a must have skill

Today I learned about connecting with people especially if you want to be a great leader. The connection should start with me and will have to be maintained by me. I should see my followers as friends with unique and different personalities. Even if I am the boss my mindset should be is to initiate to communicate with them in a personal level.
I experience this situation often when I can’t make people around me do the things I want them to do. I guess adding value to them is one of ways but connecting with them had some important impact to them as well. I just recently learned this thing and now connecting with them in personal level. These things made our relationship stronger and influence easier.
We have to remember few things to maintain these things- like be confident, sincere and open
Do you experience it? (That my heart should start to connect with there hearts before I can lead them effectively).

Today I learned that I attract people which have the same perspective and attitude with me. I have difficulty in writing this and spent much time with it. At first I don’t approve the concept because I can list many attitudes and traits that my friends have that I don’t have or I have that they don’t have.
But as continue to reflect about it the more I can clearly understand it and the more I can relate to people I attract. I have leadership skills that are lower than most leaders but that did not stop me from adding value to others. I read books and have the passion to impart it with my friends in every way I can that I can inspire and empower them.
One of the best ways to explain this law of magnetism is to reflect on most of the companies on the countries. Thus the company employ people who have the same values, background, generation, giftedness and leadership ability? Chances are that this company are looking for the people which can easily adapt and contribute to the company’s system.
The question now is that - Do you attract the people you likely to attract or if not do you want to change so that you can lead people which you would like to attract in the near future?



Lauro Visconde- Justice Serve?

Today was a memorable time  for Webb, Visconde, Nicholas and the other families that had been waiting for the decision of the supreme court. Finally after years of struggle the Supreme court announce the decision of the Visconde massacre case happened 19 years ago. I do empathize the situation of Mr. Visconde now that the Supreme Court has acquit the suspected murderers of his family. I further pray that someday the justice he long sought will be truly be given to him by God.

May God continue to guide the Philippines for Peace, Justice and Freedom



Insurance Scam I watch and experience

An Interruption from leadership segment because I like to share what I watch last night in XXX (a program of abs-cbn) which featured an insurance company scam. This scam had been experience first-hand by my former girlfriend and me in one of the malls in the Philippines. The scam start with one staff of the company which will approach a prospected client promising some coupon and prizes which will be given upon accomplishing some forms. Later, they will lead you to there office in a corner of the mall which you will be meet by other staff and helping you become comfortable. Once you are comfortable they will lead you inside there office. There you will be entertained by an insurance agent who will give you history and benefits of joining there company. In the end of the conversation the agent will then literally push you to swipe your atm or credit card in there tellers booth to know if you are qualified for the plans. Additionally, I watched in the XXX that the woman who appeal in the program has automatically been enrolled in the policy which she regretfully and angrily appealing with the agent but failed to be acted upon.

Personally, I don’t think people should undergo such circumstances because of the time they are wasting and the treatment they are getting after wards. Thankfully, I don’t have that kind of money in my atm when I was being interviewed (half was withdrawn previously). I also check my outstanding balance after we went out of that company. Personally, I think this scam is very conceited it was a waste of time for the person who is being scam and had no intention to enroll in an insurance plan.

Hopefully after reporting this to the insurance commission the scam will be watched and monitored by both government and private sectors.



Intuition and what it play in our leadership role

Today I learned about informed intuition. The topic is different and hard to discuss because of the intangible qualities of having an intuition in leading. I think being a leader should always strive to balance between intuition as well as facts. This is because the primary role of a leader is still seeing the future as far as years or decades of the company. Combining intuition and facts or data are called informed intuition. This is very useful in successful leading because the leader will eventually depend on it in times of setting up vision as a direction of the company. Few people can balance these two distinct and often conflicting things so one advice I can give is having 40-60% of the facts and the remaining should be a mix of past experience plus rate of opportunity for gain.

Personally I experience this when I am in a project. There are times when facts are not enough in doing a unique and desirable result. I personally put the things in different perspective so that issues can be address and conflict be detected. There are instances which meetings are unsuccessful because some issues were not tackled or have been given proper attention.

But as a leader there are times that you are the only one seeing the problem from the top or having the privilege to grasp the whole issue. Intuition can be learned especially if you dedicate time and energy to enhance informative intuition.

If you Demand Trust, Reflect on your Character

Today I learned about character and what role it played in others that are depending on me. My realization is that, I’m a trustworthy person because people see my character. That is why I am now trying to decide and make choice that which I think is the best. I recently learn that we should always make our choice because if not, others may choose for us. These things are requirements for people to trust us. I think if we volunteer ourselves to be a leader of a project, the first thing people will see in us is the way we handle things (are we the kind of guy they can follow?). It is very important for people to see some opportunity that will show that they can respect and perceive us to be trustworthy. That is why we should always remember is that we should be consistent, emulate capacity to lead and demand respect at all times. Character shows even if we try to hide it, like being neat or being punctual or merely being polite.

It is important also to note that being a leader is not making the right decision all the time but having the willingness to apologize and make amends. The theory is that if we done many right things in the past then few wrong things will be forgiven easily (that is, if it is not big deals anyway) but trust is not given anymore to people that do so much wrong decisions.

Adding Value to Others

Today I want to share why we should invest in others especially our followers (staff, subordinate, family members and friends). I like this topic because I was reminded that it should be my desire to always contribute something to others both my time and energy. Hope I will become someone which can gain leadership through investing to others. As for me, servitude should not be only for the general public but most especially for leaders.

The benefits we get from investing to others are we get satisfaction (fulfillment in leading them); rightly motivated in what we do as a leader; significant accomplishments; to help to develop a team of leaders and developing an attitude to serving the team.

I like also the perception “that we are not to strive to the most high or prominent place on our field but the best place we can serve the most.” I think if we can develop our leadership skills more we will be sooner or later be put to the position which we can contribute and serve the most.

  I would like to add some more guidelines and points to establish our servitude and contribution to others. These are things that should be taken to consideration for more effective leadership by serving others. First, is that we should intentionally help others that should be go hand in hand with leaders. Second, we “cannot give what we don’t have,” the thing we can add to others should come within us either skills, opportunities, wisdom or the combination of the three. Third, we serve better when we know what other people value most, either relationships, things, activities or whatever they mostly held in there hearts should be taken to consideration to make the service more meaningful. Lastly, we serve better knowing that there is someone looking after us and would like us to look after our brothers and sisters, that is making our service more purposely interesting and worthwhile especially for me.

Change for the better

Today I learn that I should improve my detailing and rationalizing skills. It is one of my lowest leadership skills because I admit that I hate planning and looking in minor detail even if I am an accountant (sorry for me). The law of navigation expressly implied that if one wants to be a good leader he/she should set there planning a top priority. This means that people are counting on you to see more, sees farther and sees before others will. (Easily to be said than done) but I think it is worth it because I think you gain respect and trust from your followers.

These are the action plan that I commit to do. Decide for an activity, Setting up the goals of the activity, Set what are the essential and prioritize, Discuss this thing with concern persons ( key personnel ), make time for them to accept these things, do what I plan after wards, I’ll expect problems, but I’ll always point to the success and accomplishment and faithfully review the plan daily.

Today I learn that leadership is a life long process and a daily activity. The time to learn is now and I should always be a student which will always have to learn. I also learned that what distinguish a leader from there follower is there ability to develop and improve their skills.

Events in our life and our day to day routine as a leader can be a tool to clearly see our progression as a leader. Event encourages decision; motivate people, can bring issues which are temporary and challenges peoples. But our day to day routine as a leader can encourage development; making the people mature; affecting issue which can be permanent and it changes people.

I think both are difficult and essentially needed to quantify our leadership skills. But if we want to become a great leader we should expect to be a leader every moment of our life. Continually learning things and having an open mind to comprehend our life in different perspective is the key to become a great leader.

Being influential where we are

“True leadership cannot be awarded, appointed or assigned. It comes only from influence, and that cannot be mandated. It must be earned. The only thing a title can buy is a little time – either to increase your level of influence with others or to undermine it.”

The leadership law of influence teaches me today that we can learn to lead by influencing our followers or people which we interact. Though positions or titles are opportunity to lead, we can still lead others even if we are not in the top by making ourselves influential in there decision in following us.

There are several factors that needed to be considered so that you can maximize your influence to others like your character, your relationship with them, your knowledge in the field, how well is your intuition, how experience you are, the past achievement you had and your current capabilities.

Why not challenge yourself to step up and become an influential leader for others? It will make your time worthwhile. Continue to learn and be effective to all ROLES you are doing.
