Gingerbread Build Leaks For The Motorola Droid 2 Global

Mon, 22 Aug 2011 19:21:53 +0000

(image)

Although the Gingerbread update for the Droid 2 Global was supposed to begin in mid-June, we've yet to see an official release hit the air. Every time another device gets Gingerbread, I can hear the D2G owners across the nation asking when it will be their turn, and it looks like we can finally answer that question: now.

While it may not be the official build, there is a definitely a leaked version floating around RootzWiki courtesy of aceoyame, that's looks to be a somewhat final build.

Fri, 17 Jun 2011 15:47:58 +0000

(image) Though Verizon would have you believe that Gingerbread is already rolling out to DROID 2 Globals around the world, Motorola is apparently riding a different train of thought entirely - according to a manager on their support forums, the update isn't quite ready yet.

Misinformation indeed. Let the inevitable kerfuffle begin!

[Update: It Was A Hoax] Motorola Encryption Keys Used In Droid/Milestone, Possibly Droid X, 2, Charm, And Other Sholes Devices Are Cracked

Mon, 21 Mar 2011 00:41:00 +0000

(image) What an absolutely insane week it has been for unlocking encrypted and signed hardware!

Update: How disappointing - nenolod turned out to be a fraud, and the whole thing was a hoax. It seemed too good to be true, and it was.

First, the Thunderbolt, which turned out to be HTC's most closed off device ever, was cracked wide open by team AndIRC within days after release, including our own Justin Case (jcase), Jamezelle, scotty2, and others.

All Droids (Excluding The Pro) Now Part Of Verizon's Holiday Buy One Get One Free Offer

Fri, 03 Dec 2010 01:50:29 +0000

(image)

With the cheapest one costing $149.99, Verizon's Droids aren't exactly stocking stuffers, but at least the price comes with double the value now. That's right - the infamous BOGO (buy one, get one free) deal has now been extended to the carrier's flagship Android devices... all except the Droid Pro, that is. Additionally, the original Droid 2 is excluded from the ad despite being part of the deal, most likely because its global brethren already appears in the ad.

Mon, 29 Nov 2010 14:26:00 +0000

(image) So look, Verizon's price for the Motorola Droid 2 Global is nice (or at least pretty decent for a phone loaded with a 1.2GHz processor and dual GSM/CDMA radios), but it can't stand up to the deals you and I both know Wirefly's been cooking up. Well now the Internet's largest authorized retailer of cell phones has come out and made it official - it's selling both the white and the regular versions of the phone for just $99.99 with a new two-year contract.

Sun, 21 Nov 2010 18:47:26 +0000

(image) Verizon has finally announced the Motorola Droid 2 Global on the Verizon Facebook page. It may seem a bit backwards since the pre-order has been going on for a while - but now it's officially official. The D2G will be priced at $199.99 with a new two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate - which means you'll be paying $299.99 upfront.

Unlike the original Droid 2, Global owners will be provided with a SIM card so they can use the phone overseas.

Motorola Droid 2 Global Rooted, Bootstrapped

Thu, 11 Nov 2010 22:13:07 +0000

(image)

At this point, Verizon probably shouldn't even bother announcing the Droid 2 Global - it's already starred in a commercial, been featured on droiddoes.com, and even been shipped to customers' doors.

Motorola Introduces Droid 2 Global In A Series Of Videos

Wed, 10 Nov 2010 22:10:24 +0000

(image) Verizon's upcoming Droid 2 Global, which replaces the still relatively young Moto Droid 2, has exposed some skin today on Verizon's how-to video page. Here, the CDMA/GSM packing world phone is shown off in an official introduction, along with a handful of how-to videos demoing specific phone functions. The $200 QWERTY speed demon (it's clocked at 1.2GHz) is scheduled to be released later this month.

Verizon Begins Pre-Orders For Motorola Droid Pro ($180) And Droid 2 Global ($200)

Tue, 09 Nov 2010 13:23:00 +0000

(image)

Verizon's really steamrolling along with the Android train, aren't they? In addition to last night's official announcement of the Samsung Continuum, the Motorola Droid Pro and Droid 2 Global are now both up for pre-order. Just as we'd heard, the D2G looks to be $200 after rebates, while the DP, as announced yesterday, will clock in at $180 (both with a new contract).

(image)

Both devices are "world phones," meaning they pack both GSM and CDMA.

Internal Verizon Document Reveals Motorola Droid Pro Will Sell For $180, Droid 2 Global And Samsung Continuum Will Be $200

Thu, 04 Nov 2010 15:08:30 +0000

(image)

Engadget's landed a classic Blurrycam shot of Verizon's internal system showing the prices for a handful of current and upcoming devices. Namely, the Motorola Droid Pro, and the still-unofficial Droid 2 Global and Samsung Continuum.

(image)

In simpler, blur-free text, that's:

  • Motorola Droid Pro - $179
  • Samsung Continuum - $199
  • Motorola Droid 2 Global - $199

Not unreasonable at all, given that they're all high-end devices. I suppose this should also erase any lingering doubt anyone may have had about the two color choices for the D2 Global - we'll definitely be presented with the standard dark blue, as well as a white model.

Motorola Droid 2 Global Details Popping Up All Over Verizon's Site, Still Not Official

Tue, 02 Nov 2010 16:48:31 +0000

(image)

The Motorola Droid 2 Global is really turning out to be the worst-kept secret since the Bay of Pigs invasion, isn't it? We've been hearing inklings of it since mid-September, including rumors that the CPU would be clocked at 1.2 GHz.

(image)

Now, Droid-Life's legion of tipsters have spotted two more official Verizon documents featuring the Droid 2 Global: a holiday ad featuring the D2G (above), and nothing other than a sheet listing the tech specs.

Motorola Droid 2 Global Rumored To Be Launching In Black And White; Original Droid 2 Discontinued From Best Buy

Sat, 30 Oct 2010 22:44:00 +0000

(image)

Ever since the Motorola Droid Pro was made official, the rumor mill has been buzzing about a global version of the Droid 2, which was exactly what the Pro was originally rumored to be.

Let's start with a rather suggestive screenshot from Droid Life yesterday:

(image)

That's right - Best Buy's reportedly discontinuing the Droid 2 at the time of writing, and now it may be just a matter of time before other retail outlets follow suit.

Motorola Droid Pro Official For Verizon; Fans Of The BlackBerry Form Factor Now Have A Decent Android Option

Wed, 06 Oct 2010 01:20:00 +0000

(image)

Verizon has just announced the Droid Pro (that's right, the same device that was previously rumored to have a dual GSM /CDMA radio for global roaming, a 1.3 GHz processor, and a 4" display), and let me tell you, the thing's got a few surprises hidden up its sleeve.

(image)

For starters, it's not a landscape slider, unlike the Droid 2. Instead, Motorola's decided to go with a candybar form factor for this one, much like the form factor used by RIM for numerous BlackBerries and also by Palm for the Pixi.

Motorola Droid 2 World Edition May Have 1.2 GHz CPU, Hit Quadrant Score Of 1709

Wed, 22 Sep 2010 21:07:16 +0000

(image) Just over a month ago (before it launched), the Quadrant scores of the Motorola Droid 2 leaked. We called it a monster when it hit 1,458. Today, Droid-Life has scored a few more leaked benchmarks, this time of the Droid 2 World Edition (which is rumored to be replacing the D2). The results: a Quadrant score of 1709 thanks to a CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz. For perspective, keep in mind that a stock EVO manages around 1100.
