Unfortunately, only a subset of the sessions were videotaped - so the list is what it is - sorry.

Hi Terrence, I couldn't find some of the videos you listed here on the JavaOne 2015 YouTube channel. Do you know any other alternative source to these video sessions?

Did you mean a Linux version of the Java ME SDK would become available? As of yet I can find no such thing and it is already summer. Any information is much appreciated.

Thanks for the info. May you please give me some RTOS's( and porting instructions) that you already ported to ARM RTX, Freescale MQX, ARM mbed if you don't mind. Another one is how to install Java ME CDC on Raspberry PI? Thanks for being patient. I really appreciate your responses. Do you have an email so I could directly email you if it's okay. Thanks Sir. Thank you so much. My email is godry19@yahoo.com

Java ME Embedded is easily portable to different RTOS, we have ported it to ARM RTX, Freescale MQX, ARM mbed, and others. I would expect it can also be ported to FreeRTOS.

SQLite requires a JDBC driver, and JDBC requires at least Java SE 1.4 - including features like reflection which are not available in Java ME 8. For local persistence on Java ME 8 there are several other options available such as Java ME 8 RMS, file I/O, as well as 3rd party persistence libraries on top of file I/O.

Java ME doesn't support Servlets - that is a Java EE concept. For Linux/ARM hardfloat platforms you can use the Java ME Embedded 8 Raspberry Pi binary, but not all of the I/O may work due to inconsistent driver support in Linux.

Hi Roy, Sorry, I cannot comment on behalf of Gemalto on their ME 8 roadmap - you would need to discuss with them directly. As for your statement in the forum "What I would like to do is run OpenHAB 2 on an embedded platform that supports Java ME 8." - can you please contact me directly at terrence.barr (at oracle.com) to discuss? Comment on Java ME 8 Specifications Approved by terrencebarr

Mon, 28 Apr 2014 14:44:50 +0000

Java ME 8 includes a core set of APIs as a subset of Java SE 8 as well as additional, new optional API packages designed for small embedded use cases which Java SE doesn't feature. Java ME 8 also has a flexible concept compared the SE "compact profiles" (which are strict supersets of each other) which is called "API package optionality". This provides for a way to include into a Java ME 8 runtime only the API packages needed for a target set of use cases (plus any dependent and mandatory packages), allowing Java ME 8 to scale at a much more granular footprint level while still maintaining completeness and consistency.

Comment on Java ME 8 Specifications Approved by Chet

Mon, 28 Apr 2014 12:55:15 +0000

Will Java ME 8 be subset of Java 8 like embedded profile or still have its own class sets?

Looking forward to Java SE embedded having Device Access API as not sure how i would make my own Nest type embedded device easily that needs a JavaFX Interface and peripheral interaction without rolling my own peripheral libraries.

Hi, just out of curiosity. Why the "jdk." prefix on the package namespace? I would expect "java." or "javax." or "javax.microedition", but this new one was a surprise to me. Is this something that may change in the final release, or should we get used to "jdk." namespaces going forward? Thanks!
