In fact we are fond of painting our bodies since prehistoric times. In past we were used to paint our bodies with materials like natural dyes, paints and pigments. In some cases we used ash, and clay, too.

The markings that the people make on their bodies are thought to have magical powers with which one could ward off evil spirits or the tribal enemies. Such was the thinking in past. The painting of bodies was also coined with celebrating of auspicious occasions like New Year or a dance party. Same practice can still observed in the indigenous populations of the countries like New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific Islands, and certain parts of Africa.

In India the women and men are fond of using Henna. It is a colour extracted from a plant of Henna; it is also known as Mehandi. This type of body painting with Henna has been a fashion in India and the Middle East since many years. People paint their hands and legs and other parts of body with Henna during auspicious ceremonies like weddings. The use of henna or Mehandi has become popular in the Western countries, too, since last two decades.

The art of body painting is not a new phenomenon in the countries of South America, too. People here have been using indigenous materials to paint their body and body parts. They use wet charcoal and other materials available in the local surrounding. In some parts of America, a material known as Huito is used to paint the bodies and faces. Huito is a black dye, and it takes weeks to fade away.

Since the beginning of time, humans have always had the desire to create art. Through this desire body painting was born, making the human body the first canvass. The history of this craft stretches so far back that historians consider it to be the earliest form of art. Compared to other types of body art like tattoos or piercing, this is impermanent. It lasts only for a few hours at most.

During the ancient times, tribes would often use this during celebrations and important ceremonies. Each color had its own corresponding meaning. Chieftains and warriors commonly had their own styles to indicate their status in the tribe. Around the 12th century, a new kind of body painting known as the Mehendi became popular. The Mehendi is an extremely old ritual that originated from Egypt. It is the art of using henna to paint the body. This type of dye usually lasts a little longer, about a 1-2 weeks before fading. Natives of South America also had their own methods of ornamenting their bodies. They would use wet charcoal also known as huito. Like henna, huito is also semi-permanent lasting for a few weeks.

In today's modern era, this has become a way of self-expression. This has been spurred on by the liberality of modern society. If before nudity was deemed by society as inappropriate and improper, now it is something to be flaunted. In the guise of self-expression and the practice of human freedom, this has become a means of grabbing the public's attention. This is especially effective during protests and rallies. Instead of bringing placards and sign boards, the protesters would instead paint on themselves.

The art of body painting can morph a human being into a beautiful work of art. It can make a statement that words alone cannot express, create a more appealing presentation, and add meaning and significance to an important occasion. It is used not only for the living, but also to preserve the dead. Truly it has attained world wide significance that will last till the end of tim

Men Dragon Alien sirens, fabulous fire dancers, in hair Santas and even a labrador retriever vehicle color, you can see all these festivals and more exceptional body painting now annually worldwide. There is a wide range of body painting festivals today. All are equipped with painted bodies, of course, and they include all types of competitions, but there are a range of skills and size between the different festivals and some others are “family friendly” than others. Here’s a quick look at the first six festivals of painting the body, when they occur and what you can expect to find: 1. The World Council of Painting Festival The festival includes some of the body painting professional as surprising to see in the world today. A 3-day program includes dance, music and fireworks and many contests. Lots of body painting here should fall into the category “art” with some body paint dancers simply defies belief. A great event and well worth a visit. Where: Seeboden, Austria Duration: Three days Events include: the World Championship in three categories: competition night for the effects of UV rays, the prices of special effects, classes and workshops, competition BodyCircus (masquerade), live music and dance, photography International and a giant fireworks show. Line art: One of the best, with an amazing variety of styles and themes surprising. Family: It is not clear, but it is in Europe, this is not likely to ban children under 18, however, this festival of body painting is not to advertise themselves as child friendly as some others. 2. The Festival of the body of Canadian painting This is another festival of body painting artists simply magnificent and completed the work. The quality of art is similar to that seen in the World Body Painting Festival. The Festival is the theme from year to year, the latest issue of which “It’s a jungle out there.”Also includes Canadian Painting Council Championship. Where: Columbia Nanaimo, British Duration: two days Activities include: Painting Competition overall body, a brush and a sponge and airbrush body painting include Championships artistic range: more surprising, and one of the best together. Very life and fantastic double-take images. Family Friendliness: Not stated – would be worth making a first call. 3. The international festival of body painting This festival was held in Mainz, the city more than two thousand years of history. It is located on the river Rhine, has a strong Celtic roots and may have been founded by the Romans in 13 BC. One can imagine that the painting of the body has a long history here, if you remember the Celtic tradition of painting their bodies before battle. Again, the artistic abilities and the area is beautiful in this Festival. Where: Mainz, Germany Duration: Festival Weekend Events include: Contests are special effects, and face painting Artistic Range: very gorgeous, high artistic skills. the family is not known, but again, it is in Europe. I would call ahead. 4. Wales International Body Painting Festival This festival is a bit ‘younger, less established than the top 3, although it has some beautiful works of art to see that they are just the beginning. In addition, the atmosphere is “fun” orinted less “high” art and family participation is strongly encouraged. A big party to consider if you want to do a family trip and see some extraordinary work in progress. Location: Wales (of course) Duration: two days Events include: Hands on demonstrations, terror experts and specialists of flowers Artistic Range: much smaller and impressive event, and not so subtle, or other creative Family Friendliness: Very good, in fact, they encourage families and camping, with an “all ages” atmosphere and events designed for young participants 5. The UK Council Painting Festival This festival showcases some of the less impressive – but funniest – body painting, altho[...]

Painting process begins by establishing a clear working area with plenty of space. Make sure you have more than adequate lighting. Typical room lighting is insufficient because it works with very small objects and fine details. I recommend you put a table lamp right in your workspace and additional lighting. Inspect the pieces you will paint. Look for errors, problems, and excess metal or plastic. Delete those parts beyond a file or side cutters. First miniature white dressing. This mini first protect against damage, will prevent the paint to peel, and will help you see the smallest details of the model. Be sure to apply the background very thin and very uniform. Avoid fine details obstruction. Paint all the basic colors of the beginning of the miniature with more sections. What you do is reach into the interior parts and paint first. Think of it as layers of clothing. Painting underwear first, then shirt and pants and then finally boots, belt and hat. You work from within.Wash the miniature in a solution of black ink with high humidity. This is a very important step in the process and provide realism to your miniatures. He will take care of this step. What you do is take the black ink or black paint and add a lot of water so it is very humid. Then wash it generously on the mini. What happens is that the black will flow into the hairline cracks. Make another wash with clean water if necessary. All the washing process added significant details to the model and is particularly good in the coat of mail or large pieces of clothing. It adds the resolution to the muscles. No evidence of light and dark. Highlighting and dark lighting means to participate in the miniature, for example, people in the thigh, and two shades of iridescent color. human leg has to be flesh-colored flesh color as you paint and add a little ‘white to it. This makes it lighter shade of flesh. Now you’re just a little ‘dab of this lighter color of the highlights of the thigh. You can also do this with a darker color of meat, and dab small amounts of the lower regions of the thigh. Continue this process for any large part of the mini. Do your job in detail. How to upload the mini makes little mistakes in the paint. You should go over it and correct these and add the final details like jewels in the strip or bar. You must also add paint or texture at the base of mini performed. Finish assembling the pieces together, if necessary, and spray the entire figure with a matte sealer. This sealer to protect it from damage and keep the colors alive for many years. About Color Schemes Color schemes are always a subject of debate and some insist on traditional systems. In general, I paint miniatures in any scheme that looks good. The most important thing about color is that you should try to vary the colors outside the basic primary colors, even if you have your own product. This will give realism to the mini. If we stick to primary colors that the end result often looks like a caricature. When buying paint colors, I recommend you do some specialized colors like silver or gold metal arms, the flesh of the body’s functions and leather clothing. These colors are almost impossible to mix. Do not be afraid to be adventurous with color. There is no reason why you can not mix your own shades. Sticking with all the primary colors are okay, but if you do some mini special colors will be much more enjoyable. Miniature painting has a lot of patience and concentration. But it is hard to do. Once you’ve made some of them having a good idea of how it’s done and you will see exceptional miniature works, games, or just show your friends.[...]

Tattoos and body piercing background in Oaxaca, Mexico, through the eyes of a lawyer All Kaireddyn (Kai) Orta began making his own rudimentary tools for tattooing in 1996, while still in high school here in Oaxaca, Mexico. One day a neighbor saw the use of a shoe box and asked what was in it. Kai showed him the right engine, needles, ink and other accessories. The neighbor was the recipient of the first tattoo Kai. Kai, then we started doing tattoos on his classmates. Kai had been interested in tattoos (Tatuajes) and piercing (perforación) since childhood. It was natural for him because his father was a professor of history, constantly telling stories about the rituals of indigenous peoples of Mexico. There was no shortage of books in the house with pictures of pre-Hispanic people who used to adorn themselves. Kai ate everything. But youth throughout Kai, was to see the tattoos of meat a rarity. Besides books and sometimes meet a person tattooed on television, he would only have a real opportunity to actually see people living with tattoos and piercings when they glimpse mainly North American and European tourists go on streets in downtown Oaxaca City, a hotbed of international tourism. The modern tradition of tattoos and piercings have been established in countries such as Canada, USA, Spain and Britain, long before arriving in Mexico. Just as many performances of new subcultures, it takes up to ten years to take hold in Mexico, especially in remote areas and conservative in the country, like Oaxaca. The state of Oaxaca has generally been physically isolated from the northern half of the country, and even the rest of the world until the arrival of the Panamerican Highway in the 1940′s. Although the foreign adventurer would make his way to Oaxaca from then until early 1960, was the hippie movement of the late and in the 1970′s that opened south of Mexico to the notion of North America and European cultures-conservatives, including tattoos and piercings below. However, the dominant sentiment of the Mexican bourgeoisie was that their children should be isolated from foreign students, and represented all their sub-culture. Jump forward to 1990. Change beginning to emerge in Oaxaca. tattoos, piercings and other nontraditional forms of expression began to be perceived as integrate the entire Western world. The display of money and promotion of its magazines pierced and tattooed stars became commonplace. Oaxaca has been read. And that included his legacy, which was subsequently forced to recognize if we do not accept the ritual behavior of their grandchildren (and to a lesser extent, their children) can not be equated to something sneaky, dirty and evil as a mere consequence of or she looks into the hole and paint the body permanently. Many in the youth culture of Oaxaca have been developing their critical thinking skills through higher education, therefore, better able to make informed decisions, stand up for them and celebrate them. Kai is 30 years. The practice of law was not for him. At the time he had graduated and has a taste for the world of lawyers’ work (less than a year), it had already become an established tattoo artists and body piercing with his own studio, but unless his excavations in course. And besides, most lawyers in Oaxaca do not earn the income level that provides a lifestyle of the middle class, at least by Western standards. Kai current study, Dermographics in the heart of the city of Oaxaca, is composed of: • with a long reception desk and computer, filled with tropical fish aquariums, display cases, especially piercing jewelry, a wooden sculpture and masks African plan (and a few Mexican masks), a library full album with drawings and photographs, mainly of tattoos , and two comfortable sofas, where guests can browse the “lists” of peace and tranquility • Similarly, in [...]

Stockholm Body Painting Contest 2010

Wed, 08 Dec 2010 04:16:00 +0000

We went to see Stockholm Body Painting Contest the 18th of October 2008 - Sweden’s first contest with international competitors and our very first Body Painting event ever! Needless to say, we were very excited to find such an opportunity to see something so unusual, something we never had seen before. The contest was initiated and arranged by the manager of Make Up Institute in Stockholm together with The World Body Painting Association. The contest’s theme was “Human and Nature in Frame”, with both airbrush and brush / sponge body painting techniques competing with each other for the first price: €1000 of Mist Stockholm products. There were twenty international and professional bodypainters from countries such as Sweden, Finland Holland, Germany, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Bulgaria, Poland, Israel among others. I don’t even remember, there were so many! I remember though that both the ruling World Champions in brush /sponge and airbrush technique were participating. This was a contest with high class indeed. With the thought of that the painting started at 9 o’clock in the morning (!) and should be ready for judgement at 3 in the afternoon, I’m really impressed by the painters and the models stamina as well as the amazing results! The jury must have had a very tough job, because there were so many amazing body paintings to choose between. I’ll start with telling you who came at third place: the Swedish Team Jarl, ruling World Champions 2008 in the Seeboden Body Painting Festival in the brush / sponge category. As some of you might recognize, their bodypainting was inspired by the Scandinavian nature and mythology from other famous painters like John Bauer, Ernst Josephson, Carl Larsson and Staffan Ullstrand (a famous Swedish ethologist). So many wonderful details, I love the back as well! At second place came the ruling World Champion in the airbrush category, Alex Hansen from Brazil, ranked 1st in Canada at Color Mundo 2007 and 1st in the World at the World Body Painting Festival 2008. This bodypainting model were actually the first one I saw when we entered the place and she instantly gave me the visions of a wild creature of the Amazonas. Very fascinating. Such rich details. I’m so impressed, beyond words. Can’t stop looking at her! (One of my two favorites which I did tip as a winner). …and the winner was: Australia! (I have no idea what the painters name is… If any one reading this knows, please tell me her name in the comments thank you).UPDATE: We got the wrong information. The winner was Bella Volen from Austria (born in Bulgaria), sorry for that! Another amazing bodypainting and I love the birds, but yet, no, this was not the one that I would have chosen as the winner. My winner would have been this one below, because of the way the painter had chosen to take advantage of the models body, look how one of her breasts are the painted lady’s breast too. If she did close her eyes, it really looked like she had a fox face and the fox is embracing her. I also love the male figure hanging on her back, entwined by the octopus. Simply brilliant. It’s never the right one that wins, right? The jury were celebrities, which I never think is a good idea. Better would be to choose a jury of persons with a big knowledge and long experience of the subject - in this case body painting. Mark Reid from USA was also participating - ranked 3rd in in the World at the World Body Painting Festival[...]

World Body Painting Festival Seeboden 2010

Wed, 08 Dec 2010 04:05:00 +0000

World Body Painting Festival Seeboden 2010World Bodypainting Festival is an annual festival held in Seeboden, Carinthia, Austria, near the Millstätter See, on the third week of July every year. The World Bodypainting Festival was created in 1998 by Alex Barendregt. At the time, Barendregt was working in a local travel agency and was given the task of organising a new summer event in Seeboden. He chose body painting on a whim after seeing a photograph about it. Although the festival wasn’t very popular at first, today it is the biggest annual event of the body painting culture and community. The festival is the first of its kind in the world and has become the Mecca of Bodypainting. It draws the best two hundred body painting artist teams and models, as well as tens of thousands of visitors, from all over the world every year. The Lake Millstätter See region’s scenery is the stage, where bodies are boldly put on show, and each artist has the opportunity to show his/her own specialities – bodies painted with many different materials and techniques, and sometimes combined with the most fantastic costumes, masks and effects. The festival lasts a week, of which the first four days consist of over thirty special workshops and lessons run by the WBF Academy, and the last three days consist of the actual festival event in the body paint city, which is open to the public without prior reservation. The festival event is open for both adults and children, and many families come there together.A male model being painted. The artists compete in many categories: brush and sponge, airbrush, and special effects are World Champion titles. At night time there is also a special UV effects contest giving the title for World Champion in UV bodypainting effects. There is a World Facepainting Award and a special award for special effects face make up. There are also semi professional student awards. All categories have separate prizes and trophies. Artists can use either male or female models as they wish. All models must be wearing underpants while painted, but female models can go topless if they want. Many body painting models are unpaid and volunteer for the unique experience of transformation by the body painting artists. Body painting is not simply painting a body, body painting is to replant the body into an entire scenery, to create a body scene with choreography and music. The WBF Institute of Sound is the community music project that developed through the World Bodypainting Festival. Every year the festival brings together international musicians, specialists in electronic music and technicians from many different countries and cultures. It is the festival’s goal to develop the music scene like the community of body painters, photographers and models that has already existed for years. The creative thoughts of both groups can develop many new ideas. The WBF Fashion Department focuses on body painting for fashion with many artists working alongside designers and with stylists around the world in the fashion industry. Also the BodyCircus is one of the biggest event highlights in the festival week. Music, shows and costumes in the unique location of the medieval castle Sommeregg.[...]
