Do you have any information that dates farther back then John Hannah who came to America from Ireland around the late 1790s or early 1800s I know a lot about my heritage but can't seem to go farther then him.

Did you ever get the information on Ester Sullinger? Ester was my 3rd great grandmother and Andrew Jackson Cleveland was my 3rd great grandfather.

I've been told by my family that Esters mother was named SOKY COOLEY and she was indeed Choctaw. Soky married James Sullinger.

I'm trying find find more information as well. Anything you have to share would be very helpful.

I am searching for my Neal line too. Father was born in Alabama,
Thomas Melvin Neal b. 1849 married abt 1875 Safrona Brister in Attala Co MS, listed in 1880 Census.
Safrona died 1880, remarried Rebecca (becky) Hodge(s)unknown who she is. No record of marriage or death. Tom would go to Arkansas in between census taking time he was listed 1900 as widowed in Calhoun Co MS, 1910 listed as widowed with a new child... possible 3rd wife in Calhoun Co MS. Wanting to connect to our Neal Line. Some of this line lived in and around Banner, MS and maybe settled in Chickasaw Co MS too.

Thanks for the cemetery advice. I have not had much success in finding ancestor's graves in Greene County, Alabama. I have many ancestors who lived there, including Hitt, Hicks, and Trussell. Many of my ancestors moved west into Mississippi. I know that David Hitt (b 1776), his wife Jane (Meeks), Asa Hicks and others died there. I have read some of their probates and some of their obituaries. But I cannot find their graves. They are not buried in Clinton that I can find. There is a Hicks Cemetery in Greene County (just a little north and east of Clinton), but I could never find a road to it even though it is on the map. David Hitt was the first resident of Pleasant Ridge in northern Greene County. I have found some relative's graves there but not direct ancestors.

Info in The Heritage of Pickens County which might help: Catherine born in May 1830, death after 1900 census taken, married 25 November 1847 to James P. Greer. He died before 1860 and she moved to Pickens County to be near her parents. He is buried in Tuscaloosa County and she is buried at the old Oak Grove CME Church Cemetery beside her parents.

I don't have any info on your Mary Greer Jones, but you rang a bell with all the similarities to my road block. I am looking for the parents of my Mary Greer who was married to Samuel Jackson. Mary was born in 1793 in South Carolina, but she was living in Pickens County, AL in 1840 with her husband and 6 children. By 1850, Mary was a widow and is shown living with a son in Attala, MS and later that same year, she was back in Pickens with a daughter. She was in Falls County, Texas in 1860 with a daughter and she died there in 1884 at the age of 90. Perhaps my Mary Greer is related to yours.

Flemming Thomason was living in Pickens Co, AL at the time of the 1830 census. Haven't been able to find him anywhere after that. I think he must have died there. Would like to find a will or probate for his property in that county; am looking for names of his children. Thanks. (He may have gone with son-in-law Mark Myatt to Mississippi between 1830 and 1840, but no record of that.)

I have quite a bit of information on Martha, Milley, Manning and Cain Crutchfield. Unfortunantly Cain died during the Civil war from disease and is buried in Augusta GA:

The Alabama Genealogical Society Fall Seminar will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at the Alabama Department of Archives and History in Montgomery from 9:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.

The program , "A Smorgasbord", will be presented by Jim Anderson, Yvonne Crumpler, Jyl Hardy and Jason Kirby. Yvonne Crumpler's topic is 'War of 1812 Research'; Jyl Hardy's lecture is 'First Families of Alabama - Was Your Ancestor in the Alabama Territory?' ; the third topic, presented by Jason Kirby, is 'U.S. Non-Population Censuses' and Jim Anderson completes the day with his presentation on 'Plotting Our Ancestors’ Land'.

The Archives Reference Room will be open for research and the museum has a new exhibit on "The Land of Alabama” and “The First Alabamians". Both will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

MANSFIELD: Curlie B. Lanier, 67, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after an extended illness.

Mr. Lanier was born February 11, 1944 to the late Wilbur and Rosie Summerville Lanier Sr. in Benevola, Alabama and had lived in Mansfield, Ohio the past 50 years.
Curlie was a former employee of the City of Mansfield, Ohio serving in the Street Department, retiring after 28 years of service in 2010.
Prior to becoming employed with the city Curlie was employed with Mansfield Tire and Rubber Company.
He enjoyed playing pool, gardening, bowling, fishing and had a lawn service in which he enjoyed landscaping and cutting grass.

Curlie is survived by his children: Deneice Campbell, Pensacola, Florida, Marquis Lanier, Norcross, Georgia; ten grandchildren, Ciara, Phylicia, Courtney, Lauryn, Quinten, Ciara, Caleb, Jared, Christopher, and Carlton; siblings: Nettie Mae Davis, Mansfield, and Edward D. Lanier, Gordo, Alabama; his former wife with whom he remained friends, Rosie Smith, Pensacola; numerous nieces and nephews including: Linda France, Jerry Lanier, Eric France, Lara France, Joyce France, Dione France, Robin Wherry, and LaTrease Whack; long time friends: Robert Clark, Mansfield and Hanson Bonner, Cleveland, OH.

In addition to his parents; Curlie was also preceded in death by a son, Donald L. Williams; sister, Madie B. Lanier; two brothers: David and Wilbur Lanier, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church with Rev. Clinton N. Hearns officiating.

Looking for information about a Eunice Carden

Hi, Im looking for information about a Eunice Carden (male). The only information I have is that he served in the military and would have been stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii around 1930.
When i was searching the database I found a Eunice G. Carden that was stationed in Hawaii in a 1930 census, his home state was Pickens, Alabama.
He had a daughter, Marion, born in 1930 and was married/divorced to an Alvira "Betty" Perreira, whom he met in Hawaii.

MANSFIELD: Wilbur Lanier, Jr., 63, of 353 Dale Ave., died Monday, August 1, 2011 in Medcentral Health System after a brief illness.

Wilbur was born Monday May 3, 1948 to the late Wilbur and Rosie Summerville Lanier Sr. in Gordo, Alabama, (Pickens County) and had lived in Mansfield, Ohio for the past 51 years.

Wilbur received a Bachelors of Arts Degree from Southern Illinois University, and a Masters in Sports Administration from Grambling State University.
He was Physical Education teacher in the Mansfield City School System from 1974-1998, during which time he served as football, basketball and track coach.
He enjoyed sports and being involved in the growth of children and their athletic and academic abilities.

Wilbur is survived by his three siblings, Nettie Mae Davis and Curlie Lanier, both of Mansfield, Ohio; Edward Lanier, Gordo, Alabama; nieces, Joyce France, Patrice Whack, Mansfield, Denise Campbell, Pensacola, Florida, Dione France, Cincinnati, Robin Wherry, Washington D.C.; nephews, Marquis Lanier, Atlanta, Georgia, Jerry Lanier, Columbus, Ohio and Eric France, Parachute, Colorado; numerous great nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Wilbur is preceded in death by two siblings, Madie B. and David Lanier.

Friends may call Sunday, after 1 p.m. in the Ruth Anna Lee Williams Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Services where family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

Just to clarify, Capt. R.(Robert) Stewart Wier 1829-1862 was the son of James Wier and Rebecca Smith; grandson of Thomas Wier Jr. and Mary Withrow Wier.

Margaret Wier who married Robert McCord was the daughter of James Wier and Mary Hamilton Wier; granddaughter of Thomas Wier Sr. and Elizabeth Faulkner Wier.
Margaret Wier McCord was a first cousin of James Wier, the father of Capt. R. Stewart Wier.

CHILLICOTHE: Lillie M. Smith, 74, of Chillicothe, Ohio went to be with the Lord at 4:18 a.m., Sunday, July 17, 2011, in Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

She was born June 29, 1937, in Pickens County., Alabama, to the late Wimbley and Luella (Hughes) McCrary.

Surviving are her son William "Bill" Locklear, of Chillicothe, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Traylon (Crystal) Smith, Gahanna, OHIO; daughter and son-in-law, Sabrina (Don) Monroe, Clinton, MD; grandchildren, Alena and Raven Smith, Shawnita, Alexis, DonJuan II and Demory Monroe; great-grandchildren, Jadyn, Bryson, Jacey, Taniya and Victoria; brothers and sister-in-law, Carl (Louise) McCrary, Chillicothe, O.D. McCrary, Washington Court House, Ohio; sister, Elsie McCrary Peterson, Chillicothe, Ohio; her former husband, Gordon Smith; a host of nieces and nephews and many special friends.

She was predeceased by her first husband, William Alfred Locklear; brother, Doy Lee McCrary; and sisters, Beulah Moore and Bernice McCrary.

Lillie was a member of Floral Baptist Church where she had been a Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with her family and her friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at the Floral Baptist Church with Rev. James S. Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday, 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Family records show Joshua D.Palmer from South Carolina married Mary Angelion Mullins who was born in 1830 in Alabama. They are both buried at Cross Roads Cemetery outside Carrollton Alabama. They had two daughters, Mary A. who married Thomas Jefferson Butler and Violet Jane who married Robert B. Butler who is my husband's direct line.

In the Pickens County Cemetery book, I find a Martha Elizabeth Mills also buried at Salem Church Cemetery south of Gordo. By her name it says Aunt Bettie. Her dates were 8/24/1870 11/6/1946. Not sure if this is your Martha.
