PodCasters Band Together

Tue, 10 Apr 2007 16:44:00 GMT

PodCasting Evolution Continues -- Networks & Affiliate Deals Appear...Have you listened to a PodCast lately?  Well... maybe it's been hard to find them... or conversely... maybe there are so many out there, that it's hard to pick one.  Both are problems in the industry.  But just like doing a PodCast is a marketing opportunity for exposure of yourself, your products, or your services, so is the challange of reaching you with the right podcast for your tastes.  Entrepreneurs know this.  Entrepreneurs like the BackBeat Media who are putting together networks of successful The Mac Cast, PodCasts, like Evil Genius Chronicles, Coverville and The Mac Geek Gab.  They're doing it to help PodCasters reach their market.  They're doing it to make money -- capital.  According to the BackBeat Media website, they seek to take "advantage of the highly passionate consumer communities that are naturally emerging around the web. Rather than superimposing a vast, featureless network over these vital web environments, BackBeat seeks out these communities to help them develop themselves to better serve the advertiser, publisher, and consumer. In turn, delivering an advertiser's message to an attentive audience of a contextually appropriate publisher results in online advertising that is simply much more effective."  A lot of marketing speak, to be sure, but it basically means that BackBeat has figured out a way to help PodCasters reach the people who might be interested in their programs.  And that means advertising income... for the PodCaster, and the networker. You should take a good look at PodCasting right now... we're past the "bleeding edge" phase and headed for mainstream with the potential for you to get yourself and your company known... and make some money at it.Resource Links:BackBeat Media SiteThe Mac Geek Gab PodCastDirectory of Tech. Top 5 WordPress Plug-Ins...

Thu, 05 Apr 2007 17:35:00 GMT

Daily Web Bite:  Each Day a Web Development Thought with Links...Greetings -Yesterday, I talked about Content Management Systems, and since WordPress is one of my favorites... here is a list today of my top 5 plug-in programs for WordPress (by all means support the developers of these fine programs -- most have "donation" links on their sites):Spam Karma -  Excellent.  You get a lot of spam comment posts when you run a blog, and this one does a great job of catching, flagging, blacklisting, and deleting comment spams.  Unfortunately... all the links are down for this one today -- but you do need a SPAM catcher, so try the highly recommended Akismet instead.  Spam Karma developer, Dr. Dave, says he'll be back soon... so stay tuned.  Total Spam Caught: 7598 -- at my WebHelperMagazine.com which is developed with WordPress.PodPress - another excellent plug-in, this time to help PodCasters publish their work on their word-press blogs.  By Dan Kuykendall, this is a PodCasters' dream with a full set of features including stat tracking for downloads, and support for various formats including video PodCasts.Adsense Deluxe - a great way to easily insert Google Adsense ads in your blog and earn some extra income.  Like the other plug-ins listed here, Acme Technologies Adsense Deluxe gives you online control settings that are easy to use:Translator - Use this excellent plug-in to allow visitors to translate your blog into eight languages (it is a WORLD wide web, you know).  Uh-oh... now it has been upgraded to a "pro" version (costing $30) with support for 13 languagess, so here are some other translation plug-in options -- detailed here.  LESSON:  Plug-ins usually begin free, but are often upgraded to paid versions, or offer paid version options with increased features.Google Sitemap Generator - This one is a must for SEO... Google loves it when you provide a properly constructed site map of your blog... and this plug-in does it for you automatically! For more Word-Press Plug-ins, visit the official WordPress Plug-in directory.  Just went there to get this link and saw some new plug-ins:  Feed Stats, Spam Viewer, etc. -- looks good!  Gotta go check them out. Top 10 Reasons Your Site Should Be A CMS - Content Management System

Wed, 04 Apr 2007 16:59:00 GMT

Daily Web Bite:  Each Day a Web Development Thought with Links...Hello -Content Management Systems, or CMS... have you heard of them?  They are simply programs that make operating your site easier and more automatic.  A shopping cart is a good example -- once you load in all of your products and prices, etc., the "system" knows how to "manage" your "content", adding up purchases, suggesting add-on sales, automatically adding appropriate links, and so forth.  See?  You know more about it than you thought you did.  So from the Shopping Cart example it should be clear how you save some time with automation... which leads me into my list of top 10 reasons why your website should be a Content Management System:It saves timeIt's easier to create new content (all good CMS programs have online editing tools, with no HTML skill required).  Below is a screenshot from the content item editor in Joomla:It's easy to change the "theme" or look of your website -- good CMS programs offer a variety of pre-designed themes (below WordPress theme manager is shown)There are many free plug-ins available for your CMS [by the way, my favorite CMS programs are the "Open Source" -- meaning free -- programs Joomla, and WordPress.  Yes... WordPress has evolved past a simple "blogging" program and now offers some full featured content management controls]There are lots of excellent, and free Open Source CMS programs available -- try comparing Joomla, WordPress, e107, Drupal, and PostNuke at CMSmatrix.orgMany are written in PHP (the language I prefer for a  CMS), and so there are a lot of qualified PHP programmers to help when you need customization work done. You can control the look of your website via a master CSS design document to keep your website look consistent -- when you and your team make updates, the pages will all come out with a consistent, professional look. The top programs offer well established support online with manuals, tutorials, bulletin boards, and development communities (another reason why I recommend WordPress and Joomla to clients)Many hosting companies offer easy, fast installation of leading CMS systems -- check out PickleZoneHosting.com, which offers both WordPress and Joomla... and about 25 other choices of free programs with their easy "elefante installer" and provides world-class support.CMS programs automatically create links for new content, placing them in places where site visitors will see and click the links. There you go.  Today's Web Bite with one final thought... many SEO experts are against CMS programs because they believe that they frustrate your efforts to make your site search engine friendly.  I'm not.  Why?  Two reasons:Good CMS programs address this issue with solutions like search engine friendly URLsSearch engine optimization is important, but most of your other marketing tactics like purchasing pay per click ads are more important (more on this in a forthcoming post) Development Questions? Let's solve your website issues.   My WebProBlog.biz Consulting Services are:Call me now:  (just 24.95 for 15 minutes)Order your Website Mission Map Report:  A PDF file containing visual review of your two closest competitors, a Website Mission Statement, and a proposed sitemap (for a new site, or revisions to an existing site), and a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, & Threats for your web mission) -- excellent for coordinating your web development team....  Cost is $599 Order Target-4 eMarketing Plan to Increase Traffic:  This custom report will help you target the customers you need to increase sales and build your business using the FOUR best online marketing methods we use in our own business and for clients.  Customized for your web business, and includes list of keywords for used on Google (and in Search Engine Optimization),  sample keyword rich copy for your site, a sample series of sales messages for au[...]

BlogMaster Traffic Ideas...

Tue, 03 Apr 2007 16:34:00 GMT

Daily Web Bite:  Each Day a Web Development Thought with Links...Good day to you!Let's say you're a serious BlogMaster, intent on building traffic to your Blog.  Maybe you run one of the slew of new corporate blogs (seems a lot of companies are finding them relevant to business nowadays).  Or, maybe you are a serious evening and weekend Blog warrior, intent on boosting the ranking of your Blog and getting new readers.  Here are some ideas to help with your growth:Be sure to set your Blog to "ping" the appropriate services for each and every post you writeDon't just include a link to your RSS feed at the bottom of a page... trumpet it out there:  - Tell people about it in your marketing materials  - Tell people new to RSS how to use an RSS reader (Google has one, & also Firefox)  - Build a page at your blog that explains what they'll receive via your RSS "newsletter" (not everyone "gets" RSS yet)Have you tried search engine marketing (SEM) yet?  Sure Google ads can be a bit spendy, but there are other, more affordable alternatives, like ABC Search.  (TIP:  be sure to check out their "matching special" -- currently, they match up to $100 of your initial deposit)Go to other blogs, in your niche, and post relevant comments with a link back to your own blogWhat cooperative deals can you work out with other blogmasters?  Beyond simply a listing on their "Blog Roll" (list of links at side of page), can you work out an agreement for each to write posts for each other with your bio, and link back to your site at top and bottom of posts?  That's the "bite" for the day... actually several bites for you to chew on.  Reference:The BlogMaster's Directory (good advertising options, and revenue program links)More Articles for BlogMasters (a number of authors report on creative ways to get more traffic) Development Questions? Web Marketing Tips

Fri, 30 Mar 2007 17:02:00 GMT

Daily Web Bite:  Each Day a Web Development Thought with Links...How goes your marketing effort?  Is it tough to get the traffic you need to convert to sales?  Here are five tips and related links for you:Find out what keywords prospective customers use to find companies like your own, and then rewrite all of your webpage copy with them included -- especially in headings.  This is a big step toward SEO -- Search Engine Optimization.  Tool  link:  Do a keyword density check.  Then... do one for your most successful competitor and note the differences. Develop and test a Google Adwords campaign.  Test is emphasized because most people do not take the time to test two different ads where just a change in one word in your headline can make a big, big difference.  Test.Work on your "Link Popularity" -- how many quality sites (not link farms) link to your site.  This is a big part of the formula for your site's ranking at Google and other search engines.  Tool link:  Check out your link popularity.Deploy a "smart" autoresponder.  An autoresponder sends an automatic email reply to someone who requests information -- a prospect -- at your site.  By "smart", I mean you should use one that captures their name and other relevant information, then replies automatically to them, greeting them by name, and sends a series of helpful messages over the next several weeks.  This will increase your sales, if written properly (and assuming you have a good product/service).  You can also use a smart auto-responder to deliver a paid online course, etc.  Compare:  aWebber - a service that provides your smart autoresponders on their servers (tip: try the "testdrive" to see how it works), and AutoResponse - a smart AutoResponsePlus program you purchase and install on your own web server. This is a three-part tip:  Do not forget offline advertising, do not forget offline advertising, do not forget offline advertising.  I've seen too many clients thing that their going to build their business using only online methods.  Remember the yellow pages.  Get business cards... and distribute them.  Tip:  Use a postcard campaign to save postage costs and make sure your prospects see your sales messages (a certain percentage of sales messages in envelopes are never opened).  Reference:  Take a look at Verticle Response -- they offer both email and printed postcard campaign services.Do these marketing tactics... over a period of years (that's right... no matter what you've heard, it's not an overnight thing), and depending on your product, price, and promotion -- you'll succeed.  Want more advertising ideas?  Visit the WebMaster's Advertising Directory. Web 2.0 -- What's Up With That?

Thu, 29 Mar 2007 21:45:00 GMT

Daily Web Bite:  Each Day a Web Development Thought with Links...

Web 2.0 is here, like it or not, and it's time to upgrade -- your sites, and your skills -- to take advantage of it.  What is it?  Well, there are a lot of definitions out there... here's mine:  Using the latest, standards compliant, technologies (XML, CSS, AJAX, etc.) to update and create new sites which take advantage of RSS, content repurposing, and the ability to present online applications.  Whew... a lot of TLA's (three letter acronyms) there.  Let's boil it down.  Sites using the right technology will be able to present more advantages to users/customers, and therefore be more successful.  There.  Wasn't that better?

Now here are some links to helpful AJAX tool sites to get you going:
