Jane Lynch and Hollywood Game Night will return

Tue, 20 Mar 2018 02:02:05 +0000

NBC has ordered a sixth season of Hollywood Game Night, the game show with sometimes drunk celebrities/NBCU stars competing in silly and fun games. Jane Lynch is returning as host, of course. There's no debut date yet, nor any official word of when it might air, though THR says "later this year." Season five ended last September, and NBC said today that the show's ratings were significantly better than the previous year, increasing its total viewers... keep reading this story »Jane Lynch hosts Hollywood Game Night episode 507, titled "A Rupaul Awakening." Drag Race turns 10, Adam ruins history, and Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta returns

Mon, 19 Mar 2018 12:45:36 +0000

It's Monday, the last full day of winter, and time already for a new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race and the return of last year's most-popular cable reality show, Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. That's the biggest debut this week—and I say that not just because it's a popular and beloved series, but because it's actually huge: airing two hours every week. Its 90-minute episodes will be followed by 30-minute Untucked episodes (VH1, Thursdays at 8). This... keep reading this story »Adam Conover returns to destroy misconceptions and misinformation—but this season, he's animated and focusing on history. (Image by truTV)

MTV brings Ex on the Beach to the U.S. with Bachelor, Big Brother, and other reality stars

Sun, 18 Mar 2018 23:00:28 +0000

MTV is bringing its UK dating and drama reality show Ex on the Beach to the US, and has cast it with reality stars from MTV and other networks, including Big Brother's Paul Calafiore and Vanderpump Rules' Faith Stowers. The U.S. version will be hosted by Romeo and debut April 19. The series filmed last November and December on Hawai‘i, aka the Big Island, near Hilo at the Waterfalling Estate, according to Big Island Now. While the original... keep reading this story »The host of MTV's first U.S. season of Ex on the Beach is Romeo. (Photo by MTV)

Drag Race’s finalists didn’t get jury votes, they got points. Here are their scores.

Sat, 17 Mar 2018 00:51:53 +0000

A deleted scene from the RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 3 finale reveals that the two finalists weren't chosen by a simple vote by the eliminated queens. Instead, they received points, and the final totals are surprising. Each of the eliminated six drag queens selected two of the four finalists: the first person they chose received two points, and the second person they chose received one point. So not only did the show throw in a... keep reading this story »This screenshot from a deleted scene shows how the RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 3 jury voted: by choosing one finalist to receive two points, and another to receive one point.

Drag Race All Stars 3 had abundant talent lost inside a game of Big Brother-style twists

Fri, 16 Mar 2018 02:27:49 +0000

RuPaul's Drag Race can really pull off a spectacular production number, and there is abundant talent on this show that is an absolute joy to watch. But oh, how Drag Race continually demonstrates how it's a game of twists that’s on par with Big Brother for fairness, coherence, and potential for producer manipulation. With RuPaul choosing the winners, Drag Race has never been a 100 percent meritocracy, but these game elements seem to keep getting... keep reading this story »RuPaul in the workroom during episode 6 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars. On Survivor Ghost Island, a famous idol becomes a possible life ring

Thu, 15 Mar 2018 17:00:44 +0000

I'm beginning to think that Survivor Ghost Island was named that not because of the past haunting the present, but because this is the season with disappearing people and storylines. Two tribes are introduced and alliances established, and then they're shuffled into the ether. Spend 40 minutes watching one tribe and finally understanding what's happening? Poof! It's gone. Yes, in episode three, there was not one moment spent at the orange tribe's camp for two-thirds of the... keep reading this story »Michael Yerger, Brendan Shapiro, Chris Noble, and Donathan Hurley competing in a Survivor Ghost Island reward challenge. 27 new and renewed reality TV shows, from The Bachelor to 90 Day Fiance

Wed, 14 Mar 2018 23:45:00 +0000

In the two months since I last published a list of renewed and ordered reality series, more shows have gotten greenlights from networks, both broadcast and cable. Six broadcast network reality shows are among those to have received renewals recently, along with 21 shows on cable, which range from the return of a prime-time game show to two new nature documentary series. Renewed reality shows and competitions ABC renewed The Bachelor for season 23; America’s Funniest Home... keep reading this story »Ricky Gervais with the kid stars of ABC's Child Support: Nathan, Sophia, Eli, Jordyn, and Clark. How American Idol did against The Voice

Wed, 14 Mar 2018 00:00:32 +0000

ABC's American Idol debuted Sunday to strong ratings, but a significant number of people didn't stay with the show on Monday, when it was easily beaten by The Voice. An important caveat: These are just overnight ratings, which means people who watch live or the same day on their DVRs. The ratings increase from those who watch on DVR within three, seven, or even 30 days are increasingly important to networks, and I cover overnight ratings far... keep reading this story »Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan on American Idol's first season 16 episode. How Amy Poehler pitched NBC a crafting competition, which now has a new name and debut date

Tue, 13 Mar 2018 12:35:08 +0000

The crafting competition hosted by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman has been renamed from The Handmade Project to Making It, and now has a debut date: July 31, when it will air Tuesdays at 10 after America's Got Talent. The show was described to me by the president of NBC's alternative and reality TV group, Paul Telegdy, as "a celebration, and it's fundamentally a show about love"—reaffirming what I thought when I first read about the... keep reading this story »Nick Offerman and Amy Poehler, hosts of NBC's Making It. Never watch a Bachelor or reality TV kiss the same way again

Tue, 13 Mar 2018 01:03:36 +0000

If you haven't seen this Comedy Central video yet, it's worth one minute of your life, whether you're a fan of The Bachelor or just want to know more about the role of post-production. It's gross and hilarious (I lost it at the grapefruit), and, of course, satirical. Still, I'll never watch another reality TV kiss the same way again. keep reading this story »A screen shot of Comedy Central's video about The Bachelor's foley artist.
