Linux, GNU/Linux, free software...

All things Linux and GNU/Linux -- this is neither a community exclusively about the kernel Linux, nor is exclusively about the GNU operating system.

The moderation choices of this subreddit are sometimes a bit questionable

There was a nice discussion going on about the data collection practices of Ubuntu with 300 comments. Suddenly a mod decided to close the discussion, just because he happened to find a duplicate from 2 days ago with 30 comments. Seriously?

PSA: If you're on Intel Skylake or above and getting bad graphics performance (e.g. GNOME 3, video playback). You might need to enable Intel's Linux Graphics Firmware.

I've been having performance issues with GNOME 3 and interpolation on mpv. It was weird since my hardware isn't that old. Turns out some Intel graphics features aren't enabled by default. Enabling them considerably increased performance.

Is Qemu/Kvm underrated?

2018-02-20T03:54:23+00:00

Every time virtualization comes up, it seems "vmware vs virtualbox" is mentioned. I never hear much discussion about Qemu/Kvm, even though it's (to my experience) considerably faster than virtualbox.

Why is Gnome not cooperating basing things like the global menu integration with KDE?

2018-02-20T08:25:08+00:00

I would say that should be something that could be solved relatively easy, but it seems to me that there is some tension and and even unvillingness from the Gnome side to help make the global menu integration in KDE possible.

RSYSLOG Help with Regex filtering and email

2018-02-20T10:23:28+00:00

Hi All,

Hi Reddit Users,

First time poster in this particular forum. I was wondering if someone could give me a hand with an issue I have with rsyslog and regex. I am running Centos 7 and I have configured a .conf file to send emails when a criteria is being met. This is working, however, I wish to customize the email to be human readable and not just the below message:

172.17.248.29 noc ttyp0 27.124.2.5 stop task_id=19 service=shell process*mgd[60712] cmd=show configuration

I want to pull the second IP address in the message using the below filter:

%msg:R,ERE,2,BLANK:([0-9.]+)--end%

I can only pull the first IP, and not the second. Can somebody please shed some light on how to accomplish this? I will want to link multiple variables together eventually. Thanks :)

ISA sound cards

2018-02-19T22:59:17+00:00

Anyone know of any linux distros that still support ISA sound cards? I have a PII think pad with an old sound card I wanted to get running for fun. A few years ago drivers for ISA were dropped. I could use an old distro but I wanted something that can still get new software.
