HAPPY 55th BIRTHDAY CHARLIE BROWN!

2005-10-02T10:20:47.430-07:00

Yes I lied about Fizzle Halloween stories starting today, But today there is something else important to acknowledge.

Fifty five years ago peanuts started, It only started in seven newspapers those newspapers being The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, The Minneapolis Star/Tribune, The Allentown Call-Chronicle, The Bethlehem Globe-Times, The Denver Post, and The Seattle Times. And if your lucky your library might have microfilm's going that far back so you can see it just as it appeared fifty five years ago.

Charles Schulz wanted to keep the name Li'l Folks but there already was a Little Folks by Tack Knight, Schulz then suggested something along the lines of Charlie Brown or Good Ol Charlie Brown, But the syndicate didn't want a name that centers on one character so Bill Anderson who had never seen the strip sent in ten names Peanuts being one of them ( Interestingly enough he is also the one who named the place that The Howdy Doody Show audience would sit peanut gallery) Schulz Hated it he said "It was the worst title ever thought up for a comic strip," He thought the title "confusing," with "no dignity." and as if to add insult to injury he received letters from fans that read along the lines of, "I love this new strip with Peanuts and his dog." Luckily that didn't last.

From Monday, October 2, 1950, until the final strip appeared on Sunday, February 13, 2000 there were a total of 17,897 strips: 15,391 daily strips, and 2,506 Sundays. Through that he only took a single vacation from November 27 through December 31, 1997 Peanuts was translated into at least twenty seven languages and still five years after ending it is in over 2000 newspapers, On may 27th the day Schulz was to get the first ever comic strip lifetime achievement award 147 comic paid tribute plus countless web comics the largest collective comic project ever quite a tribute

And now to leave you with your with something scary as a lead up to Fizzle Halloween Stories: Snoopy was originally going to called Sniffy.

It get's worse and worse.

2005-09-03T19:20:08.053-07:00

But it is clear from talking to survivors that what happened in New Orleans last week was far more extensive, bloody and terrifying than the authorities have admitted so far.

'We had to wrap dead people in white sheets and throw them outside while the police stood by and did nothing,' said Correll Williams, a 19-year-old meat cutter from the Crowder Road district in the east of the city, who waded two miles through waist-high water to make it to the Convention Centre after hearing on the radio it was being turned into a refuge.

'The police were in boats watching us. They were just laughing at us. Five of them to a boat, not trying to help nobody. Helicopters were riding by just looking at us. They weren't helping. We were pulling people on bits of wood, and the National Guard would come driving by in their empty military trucks.'

Williams only left his apartment after the authorities took the decision to flood his district in an apparent attempt to sluice out some of the water that had submerged a neighbouring district. Like hundreds of others he had heard the news of the decision to flood his district on the radio. The authorities had given people in the district until 5pm on Tuesday to get out - after that they would open the floodgates.

'We thought we could live without electricity for a few weeks because we had food. But then they told us they were opening the floodgates,' said Arineatta Walker, who fled the area with her daughter and two grandchildren.

'So about two o'clock we went on to the streets and we asked the army, "Where can we go?". And they said, "Just take off because there's no one going to come back for you." They kicked my family out of there. If I knew how to hotwire a car I would have,' Walker said.

Once inside the Convention Centre, Walker confronted a new hell. 'People were being raped, there were cries and screams, there were gunshots, but the police did nothing,' Walker said.

Levee repairs faked for Bush photo-op?

2005-09-03T19:11:59.386-07:00

Well, according to a statement released by Senator Mary Landrieu, yes. Yes it was.
Here's the statement
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
09/03/2005

Landrieu Implores President to "Relieve Unmitigated Suffering;" End FEMA's "Abject Failures"

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, D-La., issued the following statement this afternoon regarding her call yesterday for President Bush to appoint a cabinet-level official to oversee Hurricane Katrina relief and recovery efforts within 24 hours.

Sen. Landrieu said:

"Yesterday, I was hoping President Bush would come away from his tour of the regional devastation triggered by Hurricane Katrina with a new understanding for the magnitude of the suffering and for the abject failures of the current Federal Emergency Management Agency. 24 hours later, the President has yet to answer my call for a cabinet-level official to lead our efforts. Meanwhile, FEMA, now a shell of what it once was, continues to be overwhelmed by the task at hand.

"I understand that the U.S. Forest Service had water-tanker aircraft available to help douse the fires raging on our riverfront, but FEMA has yet to accept the aid. When Amtrak offered trains to evacuate significant numbers of victims -- far more efficiently than buses -- FEMA again dragged its feet. Offers of medicine, communications equipment and other desperately needed items continue to flow in, only to be ignored by the agency.

"But perhaps the greatest disappointment stands at the breached 17th Street levee. Touring this critical site yesterday with the President, I saw what I believed to be a real and significant effort to get a handle on a major cause of this catastrophe. Flying over this critical spot again this morning, less than 24 hours later, it became apparent that yesterday we witnessed a hastily prepared stage set for a Presidential photo opportunity; and the desperately needed resources we saw were this morning reduced to a single, lonely piece of equipment. The good and decent people of southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast -- black and white, rich and poor, young and old -- deserve far better from their national government.

"Mr. President, I'm imploring you once again to get a cabinet-level official stood up as soon as possible to get this entire operation moving forward regionwide with all the resources -- military and otherwise -- necessary to relieve the unmitigated suffering and economic damage that is unfolding."

Today's aerial tour of the 17th Street levee will be featured tomorrow on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Later, Sen. Landrieu will also appear on CBS's 60 Minutes.

Oh Happy joy joy! AKA POLITICAL SATURDAY!

2005-09-03T11:21:32.016-07:00

Well I’ve decided that if I’m going to get Political it’s going to be on a Saturday so there! This week I’ll be talking about (Or ranting about the great blog question go’s on) hurricane Katrina(Note I’m pretty sure that I’ll be on a deferent subject each week) So I guess I’ll start with Jack Cafferty, lately there have been a few sightings of some reporters losing there non-bias that reporters are famous for and I’d half to say that the most obvious instance that I’ve seen is with Jack Cafferty Here’s a link to a video where he go’s right at the bush administration, And get's it down perfectly. http://movies.crooksandliars.com/The-Situation-Room-Cafferty-on%20Katrina.mov (GO! GO! [You see I don’t have that non-bias the reporters are famous for] GO!) And here’s a link to the transcript http://www.crooksandliars.com/stories/2005/09/01/caffertyTranscriptCnn9105BashedAdminOverKatrina.html
And here’s what he said yesterday that some’s up my feeling’s at the time perfectly

Jack Cafferty: Do you suppose, Wolf, that the arrival of the relief convoys and the political photo ops on the gulf coast happening at the very same time were a coincidence today?

Wolf Blitzer: Uh, well, we'll, I'm sure our viewers have some thoughts on that as well. These pictures, by the way, Jack, that we're getting in...blah..blah..blah Jack a final thought before I let you go.

Jack Cafferty: It's embarrassing [followed by dead silence](GO!)

And now for Kaney West, Okay there are probably about ten million blog that are talking about this but I’m going to make it ten million and one, as you most likely know Kaney West said live on TV “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” And all I can say is THANK YOU! Thank You for taking the opportunity to speak your mind when it well reach the most people, There are to things that strike me when watching a video of that One: Kanye is obviously nervous as all heck... stammering, stuttering, pausing, trying to overcome the insane butterflies in the stomach and lump in the throat.. .but getting it out regardless. Attn: world - THIS IS WHAT COURAGE LOOKS LIKE! Courage doesn't mean not being afraid, it means being afraid, yet doing what you gotta do anyways. Unbelievable... you just want to give him the biggest hug.

Two: Mike Meyers looked as if he was in dire terror of being struck by the impending Sidewinder missile he felt coming Kanye's way.

This was by far the most unbelievable TV experience in a long, long time. And the best part? He can't get Dixiechicked, Because in rap the more controversial you are the more populer you seem to get. Oh and here's a link to the video,
http://buttlands.net/kanye.avi

Note when I mention the non-bias reporters are famous for I'm not counting Faux News.

My first update in a while.

2005-09-01T09:16:16.913-07:00

Gee I haven't updated my blog in a while I think it was sometime last month I updated.

The G Bomb

2005-08-30T13:21:17.786-07:00

A bunch of science blogs are Google bombing the phrase Intelligent Design, so that people who type those two words in Google are directed to the NCSE(National Center for Science Education) web page about it. They’re also encouraging others to do it, so what the heck. If you have a blog, or a website, give it a shot. This might prove to be fun.

P.S I'm not an atheist I just disagree with Intelligent Design,

P.P.S If you have a bone to pick with me do it in my comments not my tag-board

P.P.S.S Except the blog to become political from time to time.

P.P.P.S.S Politics well stay out of the fizzle though

My first angry something!

2005-08-26T18:39:54.636-07:00

I don't know what to call it if the angry something is in a tag-board Here it is "I hope you are younger than 5, or this is pathetic. I have never seen such garbage. And this site layout is horrible." A milestone for every cartoonist in my opinion!
