Best Place To Watch Las Vegas New Year's Eve Fireworks

The fireworks will be shot off simultaneously across the various hotel rooftops along The Las Vegas Strip--MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, The Venetian and The Stratosphere.  In 2008, a fire at The Bellagio caused the fireworks extravaganza to be lowered to the ground, and it was a really pathetic display.  Fortunately, beginning last year, the Las Vegas New Year's Eve fireworks returned to the rooftops--much better!  2.  You can check out the fireworks without having to actually be on The Strip.  While I've actually been on The Las Vegas Strip for the countdown and fireworks (Flamingo and Las Vegas Boulevard to be exact), the truth is that it gets pretty squishy and at times pretty scary when drunk people start to push and the crowd force takes over.  Not much fun.  I can say "been on The Las Vegas Strip at midnight on New Year's Eve--check, now I'm done with it." 3.  You can easily park for free, avoid the crowds and won't get stuck in Strip traffic. The Las Vegas Strip closes to traffic on New Year's Eve around 6 pm, so good luck driving around there anyway.  Plenty of parking and a fairly easy in and out, with a free view of the fireworks, can't be beat! So here's my best place to watch the New Year's Eve Las Vegas fireworks: The outside parking lot of The Rio hotel on The Convention Center side.  Most people don't realize that this parking lot even exists as they go straight for the garage, but if you keep on going past the parking garage, or enter from he back of the property, you'll get there.  And there's no place else that offers such a great panoramic view for free without all the hassles. I found this gem when I met a colleague who was attending a trade show at The Rio Convention Center one Summer and when I saw how it aligned for the hotels across the way on The Strip, I filed it away for "the" spot to see The New Year's Eve Las Vegas fireworks.  Now you know the secret :) And that's the Vegas Inside Scoop on the best place to see the Las Vegas New Year's Eve fireworks.  Happy New Year! Las Vegas Show Reviews The Best Magic Shows to Catch in Las Vegas

His Mac King Magic Comedy Show afternoons at Harrah’s is funny and amazing. Mr. King is a charming gentleman who involves the audience in his show.  He selects volunteers from the audience and proceeds to bamboozle them and you all at the same time.  Highlights of his show include a very strange trick involving a goldfish and Mac’s “Cloak of Invisibility.”  The show has very minimal production values; don’t expect to see tigers jumping out of cages and half-naked showgirls swinging from the rafters. It’s a delightful afternoon of stand up comedy and sleight-of-hand magic. With very reasonable ticket prices, it’s a great show for families.  Las Vegas Magic Shows For Teens Criss Angel is a reality TV star who combines a bizarre personality with magic tricks and camera tricks that have teenagers and other less critical thinkers believing he actually has magical powers.  While his TV show very often cheats the viewer by using tricky editing, when he’s live on stage for his Believe show at The Luxor he manages to amaze you with his mastery of illusions. Together with Cirque du Soleil, Angel creates a spectacular fantasy filled performance.  Fans of Criss Angel will be delighted to see him pull off some of the most visually stunning magical illusions being performed anywhere in the world. Shocking Las Vegas Magic Shows Penn and Teller present a magic show at The Rio that’s designed to shock, amaze and challenge audiences on an intellectual level.  If you are afraid of four letter words and stage blood by the gallon, stay away. Unlike most magicians, Penn and Teller appear to give away the secrets behind the tricks they do. They believe that modern audiences, at least those with a bit of an IQ, don’t really believe that a guy in a tuxedo producing doves from handkerchiefs actually possesses real magical powers. So they don’t pretend to possess any supernatural skills and do their best to expose those who would have us believe such nonsense. The bad boys of magic are good enough to happily meet and greet audience members, sign souvenirs and take photographs with fans in the lobby after every performance. The Amazing Jonathan at Planet Hollywood is for adults only.  This frenetic and eccentric comedy magician perfected his craft in comedy clubs and colleges, so his material can sometimes be irreverent. His rapid-fire delivery of sight gags, magic and sidesplitting comedy is perfect for crowds that are not easily offended and want to have a great time. No one under 18 is permitted at the show. Big Las Vegas Magic Shows For General Audiences Rick Thomas performs the big stage illusions with flair at The Sahara. If your idea of a great magic show is levitating ladies and disappearing tigers, Mr. Thomas will not disappoint. He is a master magician who truly knows how to amaze and astound audiences using the art of stage illusion. The show is a safe bet for folks looking to entertain a group of business guests or family groups. There is nothing to offend even the meekest member of your entourage. David Copperfield has a must-see magic show at the MGM. David is one of the most important and influential illusionists in the world today. The illusions he performs will baffle you, but more importantly Copperfield knows how to entertain. He manages to make a [...]

Bellagio Fall Display Photos Las Vegas

Like its other exhibits, the Bellagio Fall Display uses flowers and various parts of plants, much like Southern California's Rose Bowl Parade, to create its gorgeous displays.  I guess it's The Bellagio's way of doing Fall foliage since we really don't have any here in the dessert.  This Fall Display focused on several painstakingly created twisty magical trees as shown in this photo.   There were also several humongous pumpkins--the one below is 750 pounds.  When I showed my Mom the picture, she said "that's a great way to look skinny--take your picture next to a 750 pound pumpkin!"  Good one, Mom!   I also enjoyed the irony of this photo of a scarecrow with a store's display window showing its winter holiday displays in plain view, as if the holiday season was breathing down its neck.   I enjoyed the soothing sounds of the water rushing over this beautiful waterfall tree--they came in both blue and red lighting, but the blue was especially peaceful.   This covered bridge reminded me of some of the ones I saw on a trip to Iowa a couple of years back.   Even throughout the lobby and shopping passageways, there were touches of Fall, like these glass leaves hanging below various skylights.   So whether you're a Las Vegas local, or a Las Vegas visitor who should be taking a break from the gambling tables (sorry Las Vegas economy, I know we want people gambling), it's worth a stop over at The Bellagio--always a classy, free and 24/7 thing to do in Las Vegas. And that's the Vegas Inside Scoop on The Bellagio Conservatory and Gardens Fall Display. --Melanie Jordan Don't miss a post--subscribe to the Vegas Inside Scoop feed. Las Vegas High Rises Review of Sky Las Vegas

Sky Las Vegas is currently the only Las Vegas high rise condo that can claim luxury living on the strip (although if the Fountainebleau goes condo instead of condotel as is rumoured, then it would no longer be the only one to make that claim).  From Las Vegas Boulevard, Sky is an attractive white building with blue glass that commands attention.  It's located right next to the Hilton Grand Vacation complex, with Circus Circus and The Sahara being its closest casino neighbors.  I toured Sky focusing on rentals, since it's a little early, in my opinion, to be buying into the Las Vegas high rise market, and it would make sense to know if I'd even like living there.  I made the mistake of walking over instead of driving (from Sky's security point-of-view).   As soon as I started going to the front entrance, the security guard in the booth literally leaped off his seat to pop out to see what evil I might be thinking of inflicting since I obviously didn't yet belong there.  Silly me, I thought there was an entrance near the guard gate.  Nope, if you're gauche enough to walk, it's either through the lobby level 24-hour CVS, or around the other side of the building. I went to the other side of the building, since I wandered around CVS and couldn't find the entrance still, and another guard said I had to be escorted to the building's real lobby to meet my Realtor.  And so I was.  The security does keep an eye on the place, that's for sure.  An important point given Sky's location. All of the beautiful common areas were spotless including the elevators, and I witnessed people cleaning as I walked through.  The only negative I noticed was that even on a relatively temperate August day of 102 degees, the lobby and hallways of the building were pretty warm.  In fact the side entrance guard had a portable air conditioning unit at her station! Sky is just four years old, so the units are ultra-contemporary (all appliances are included through the in-unit washer/dryer), as well as the bathrooms with glass-enclosed showers and large roman tubs.  The kitchen is the same in the one and two-bedroom units, and is small with appliances and cabinets lining a narrow passage way.  But why waste space on a kitchen anyway? You are immediately drawn to the floor to ceiling windows in each main room, and depending on the unit, you have a cement or glass balcony.  I saw one unit that faced the Fountainebleau and Silver State arena construction and part of The Sahara, and another that was a spectacular upper floor unit with amazing Stratosphere views.  The view, of course can be a prime strip one or not, and the price will reflect that accordingly.  The one and two bedroom units I saw were about 800 and 1100 feet, respectively, and open and comfortable feeling. How well a Sky rental unit is care for, of course, depends on the individual owner--I saw a unit owned by the developer that was like new, and two from individual owners where you can really tell it was a rental.  Some owners obviously don't paint and clean up as well as others.  Two of the biggest surprises at Sky were the fact I was right on Las Vegas Boulevard, but inside the unit, the construction measures that were taken, resulted in virtual[...]

Where To See Las Vegas Fourth Of July Fireworks 2010

2010-07-02T10:17:56-07:00

My top picks are: 1.  Fourth of July Fireworks at Caesar's Palace Not only can you see what is sure to be a spectacular fireworks show on the 4th at 9 p.m. at the Roman Plaza, but on both Saturday and Sunday, Caesar's Palace has smartly brought us an opportunity to cool down.  They're transforming the Roman Plaza into what they call a "cool zone" complete with a four-story ski jump (no you can't go on it--just professional skiers and snowboarders who will do demonstrations) and a walk-through ice lounge.  Personally, I'd try to hang out on the ice lounge as long as possible with temps well into the hundreds. 2.  Station Casino's 4th of July Blast Station Casinos, with Grucci having their back, will simultaneously launch fireworks at Green Valley Ranch, Aliante Station, Fiesta Rancho, Texas Station and Red Rock at 9 p.m. on the 4th.  Too bad we can't be at all 5 locations at once.  I went to Red Rock last year and watched from the parking garage.  They were pretty good and convenient without the tourist crowds. And I even forgive them for opening up Aliante Station instead of Durango Station like they were supposed to do many moons ago (and even up to 2008 were still swearing it was about to open). 3.  Fremont Street It looks like Fremont Street isn't satisfied with just celebrating July 4th, they have stuff going on from the 2nd to the 5th.  On Friday, July 2nd, The Golden Nugget will start the Independence Day weekend early with launching its fireworks at 10:10 p.m. on July 2nd--isn't that premature celebration? The next night you can go "Reminiscing" with The Little River Band who performs on the 3rd Street Stage on July 3rd at 9 p.m. And there are always virtual fireworks available overhead on the Fremont Street Experience Viva Vision in-between its regular showings. The main thing with Fremont Street is when it gets crowded it can get much hotter than the 100 or so degrees of actual temperature, and at times you may feel like you simply can't move or get any air--that happened to me when it was only May a couple of years ago when I went to see Sugarland at Fremont Street.  So drink plenty of fluids--and I don't mean that mega alcohol drink you might be carrying around if you're visiting--that will dehydrate you fast! There's lots more going on to celebrate the 4th Of July in Vegas--for even more options, check out this piece from the Review Journal. And that's the Vegas Inside Scoop on where to go see fireworks in Las Vegas.  Have a happy and safe 4th everyone! P.S.  The Independence Day themes just keep going on my other two blogs!  Check out:  What Independence Day Could Mean To You at What You Know Is Worth More Than You Know - The Blog For Original Content Infopreneurs and Fourth Of July Healthy Food Makeovers at The Healthy Food Review Don't miss a post--subscribe to the Vegas Inside Scoop feed. Las Vegas Places To Eat Hash House A Go Go

Food fame) footsteps and try out Hash House A Go Go in Las Vegas.  While we generally are healthy eaters and work out regularly, we do like our wacky indulgences as well, so when we saw the crazy-size portions of "twisted farm food" Hash House A Go Go Las Vegas dishes out, we decide to make a dunch (combo lunch and dinner) out of it. The restaurant's atmosphere is loud and noisy and a bit funky, but you don't go to Hash House A Go Go for that, you go for a Snickers flapjack (as featured in the photo) and a huge farm scramble.  As our server explained, the Snickers pancake or Snickers flapjack, is a traditional flapjack with a Snickers candy bar crumbled on top and baked in.  It's beyond huge, taking up residence on a giant oval plate.  If Hash House A Go Go was serving pizza, it would be this big! This is not for those of you on a low-carb diet!  And you will be taking at least half of this Snickers pancake home (so breakfast the next day is handled) despite the fact it tastes so good you don't really want to put your fork down. As an egg lover (usually egg whites, of Eggbeaters, but I do usually indulge in real eggs out), my eye went to the farm scrambles (you can see a peek of it in the top of the photo as well).  I was a little disappointed that my server said I couldn't substitute spinach for the mushrooms in what was otherwise a very appealing ground turkey, broccoli combo because "the cooks get funny about changing around their recipes."  I was even willing to pay for the substitution--no dice, this is not Burger King where you get it your way, but the food is in a totally different class, so you have to deal with it. So I ended up with the scrambled egg, broccoli and ground turkey (which I never had before in eggs), and a side of grilled mashed potatoes.  Really yummy--in fact, I'm now trying to figure out how to recreate this dish so I can make it at home more often with some slightly healthier substitutions, because I'm hooked. A worthwhile outing?  Definitely! And you can choose from the Hash House A Go Go Sahara and Rainbow location we went to, or the Imperial Palace if you're visiting and staying on The Las Vegas Strip. Working Out With Carrot Top Kinda Sorta

2010-12-13T18:28:17-08:00

Anytime we go to the gym around 5:30 or 6:00 on a Saturday night, we've found him using the various weight machines right along with us.  You simply can't miss him with his famous bright orange-red hair, and at times, matching orange shorts. I almost crashed right into him one night as he was walking off a lift and coming back from the water fountain, which got me a smile.  People at the gym are cool about his regular appearances, don't bug him for autographs and give him his space.  And in the interest of his privacy, I'll keep the gym and its location confidential. My husband (who does well weight lifting in his own right), was impressed with the weight level Carrot Top lifts, and admitted to having to move the machine pin down quite a bit in when using one that he had just vacated. I'm impressed with the fact Carrot Top is at the gym just a couple of hours before his Carrot Top show at The Luxor on Saturday nights. I guess us gym regulars are good material.  Plus, it's nice to see that someone who could obviously work out in his own star home gym, opts instead to mingle with the real people.  Now that's something you'll never see Criss Angel do! And that's the Vegas Inside Scoop on Carrot Top's workouts. Update:  The Sahara location of 24 Hour Fitness has closed for some reason since this posted, so neither I nor Carrot Top have that good location to work out at anymore.  But it was a fun story while it lasted.
