Dangers of Taking Butalbital Without Prescription

Tue, 22 Jul 2008 04:00:00 +0000

Butalbital is a popular painkiller and muscle relaxant sold in combinations with other substances to form the base compounds of some of today’s major pain medications. While butalbital is also a popular drug on its own account due to its strong sedative and painkilling functions, it is difficult to procure on its own in local and online pharmacies. This is due to the fact that most of these drugstores often sell combination medication since it is rare for butalbital to be prescribed on its own due to its potent nature. Fortunately, there are still online drugstores that carry generic and prescription butalbital. However, care should be taken in getting butalbital from just any online pharmacy since the proliferation of counterfeit drugs and fake drugstores poses a formidable threat. While there are several telltale signs of fake pharmacies that sell counterfeit drugs, none is more conspicuous than the lack of a prescription requirement prior to dispensing medications. Even if you are in desperate need of butalbital, you are advised to avoid getting no-prescription ones due to the danger they pose. Below are just some of the dangers you are risking by getting butalbital without prescription:Unforeseen ContraindicationsButalbital is contraindicated for a number of conditions like liver and kidney problems, pregnancies, and allergic reactions. There are other conditions for which butalbital is contraindicated but you will not know whether you have these conditions or not unless you undergo a thorough physical examination and medical history evaluation with your physician. Taking butalbital when it is contraindicated for your health – whether you know it or not – can result to fatal side effects and worse conditions that you have difficulty recovering from. Some of the most fatal side effects that result from taking butalbital with a contraindicated condition include coma, paralysis, and even death.Severe Side EffectsThe butalbital sold by no-prescription pharmacies are often counterfeit and produced without the necessary quality procedures. As such, this sort of butalbital can be mixed in with other substances or combined in inappropriate dosages. Since this type of butalbital is unapproved by the Food and Drug Administration nor studied by pharmaceutical companies, it can induce unforeseen and severe side effects. Some of the most common side effects of butalbital like dizziness, drowsiness, poor muscle coordination, general weakness can be amplified to unexpected intensities. Side effects can even result in death if the butalbital sedation levels of the drug are beyond what your body can tolerate. Overdose and AddictionButalbital is a habit-forming drug if used without medical supervision or bought from irresponsible online pharmacies without prescription. In the case of butalbital addiction, you can become so dependent on the substance that you cannot function without it. Taking the substance has become so much a part of your routine that deviating from it can cause you severe stress. Most addicts exhibit symptoms such as anxiety over low butalbital supplies, getting secretive of their prescription habits, and not following their doctor’s instruction. Most substance addicts are also prone to overdosing. . In the case of butalbital, your body can get accustomed to the drug that it takes a larger dose to produce the necessary effect. Continuously increasing the dose without medical supervision can make you prone to overdosing.[...]

Choosing an Antidepressant That is Right for You

Tue, 15 Jul 2008 12:42:00 +0000

Knowing that depression has significantly changed your way of life contributes more to the serious anxiety and desolation that you are currently experiencing. That is why you need to seek treatment for the condition that you are going through right now. Of course, consulting a doctor regarding your chronic depression condition will cover the diagnosis as well as the recommended treatment regarding your condition.

Consulting a doctor will not only enlighten you on your condition, but it will also free you from another worry of having to decide on what treatments are suitable for you. With the help of your doctor, you will be able to agree on what antidepressant drug will work best for you.

Antidepressants as treatment
Majority of adults who are diagnosed with moderate to severe case of depression often prefer an antidepressant medication as a form of treatment. Antidepressant medications are often recommended to be used along with psychotherapy sessions for better results. These prescription drugs, however, do not really provide cure for depression. These medicines only help you go through remission as well as aid on the reduction of depression symptoms.

Today, there is a wide variation of antidepressant drugs available in the market. With this, it may be difficult for you and your doctor to decide on the right antidepressant medication for your condition. But understand that finding the best antidepressant drug to use can take time. See, all antidepressant drugs have their own pros and cons. This only shows that you need to know such information so that it will be easier for you to know which ones will work best for you. Sometimes, your doctor may require you to try and take several antidepressant drugs to know which drug or combination is appropriate for you.

Below is a list on what your doctor needs to consider in prescribing an antidepressant drug:
  • Age
  • If pregnant or breast feeding
  • The expected side effects
  • One's ability to adopt to the expected side effects of the anti depressant drug
  • Antidepressant history in the family
  • Medical and psychiatric condition

Right approach to antidepressant treatment
Generally, doctors prescribe antidepressant medications in a step-by-step process. At the beginning of your treatment, you are most likely prescribed to take an antidepressant that is effective and has very few noted side effects. Fluoxetine is one of the first choice antidepressant medications of majority of doctors today. Adults are usually prescribed to take 20 mg a day and not more than 80 mg a day. When depression condition is under control, the doctor will then prescribed you to take 80 plus mg of Fluoxetine.

If first choice of medication does not work, the doctor will then prescribe other types of antidepressant drugs or a combination of two or more antidepressants. A combination of an antidepressant and other medication is also a known recommendation of some doctor. With a continuous trial and error of antidepressant drugs along with, of course, strict supervision of your doctor, you definitely have a big chance of finding the one that works best for you.

Consumer Safety and Security in Buying Prescription Drugs Online

Wed, 02 Jul 2008 14:20:00 +0000

There is really no question on the numerous benefits and conveniences brought by the hundreds of pharmacy websites on the Internet today. But there are, indeed, a lot of things to doubt about when it comes to the safety and security of these service websites.

Many consumers believed that online pharmacies have revolutionized the traditional concept of buying medications in land-based or local drugstores, for these websites provide an easier and faster way for consumers to acquire the medicines they need.

There is really no difference in the way local drugstores and online pharmacies operate. Both are licensed and acknowledged pharmaceutical establishments to distribute or dispense prescription medications to consumers. Land-based drugstores and online pharmacies are also strict on the implementation of the no-prescription-no-medicine rule for every customer who wants to avail of their services. These are also perfect source of information and background about the different types of over-the-counter and prescription medicines such as the intake of above 80 mg of Fluoxetine. However, online pharmacies are the preferred option of most people today when they opt for a more convenient means to get their medications.

On the other hand, online pharmacies are not free from issues that are also linked to other types of service websites. Also found on the Internet are the numerous rogue websites that sell and distribute drugs or medications to consumers even without valid prescriptions. These sites are considered a threat to consumers’ safety and security.

In order not to be victimized by these deceiving websites, consumers need to check out the following concerns on their list of prospect websites:

  • Do all prospect websites feature evidences that can prove they are operating legally on the Internet? Pharmacy websites that only display too-good-to-be-true promotions are most likely operating against the regulations of FDA.
  • Do all prospect websites post an existing and sound privacy and security policy? Online pharmacies that do not have a privacy policy do not intend to acknowledge or protect the privacy and security of their customers. These sites only aim to bombard consumers with spam advertisements and promotions using the collected personal and financial information of their clients.
  • Do all prospect websites verify valid prescriptions first before administering the sale and distribution of prescription medications to consumers? Online pharmacies that skip prescription verification are considered illegal by the authorities, for it is a legitimacy requirement for an online pharmacy to distribute medicines as long as the consumer has a valid prescription.

Once a consumer’s prospect online pharmacy answered yes to all the questions mentioned above, then that website is obviously a real online pharmacy that can be trusted. Consumers should be wary in choosing which Internet drugstore to utilize so that they can have a safe and secured experience in ordering and purchasing the prescription medicines they need via online transactions.

California Tuberculosis Rates Aggravated By Tainted Cheese

Thu, 19 Jun 2008 13:25:00 +0000

June 19, Los Angeles – Illegal, unpasteurized dairy products are being linked to the increasing infections rates of a rare form of tuberculosis among Hispanic immigrants in Southern California. They are also raising fears about the strain causing a resurgence of a condition that has long been thought eradicated in the U.S.

The bacteria in question, the Mycobacterium bovis strain of tuberculosis, has seen a significant increase in infections in San Diego County. In particular, most of the cases are children who drink the milk, or eat dairy foods made from the infected cattle, according to a study by the journal; Emerging Infectious Diseases. Among the products that are found to be spreading the condition is the popular queso fresco cheese.

However, public health officials warn that anyone can be infected by simply eating the contaminated fresh cheeses, which are usually sold by street vendors. According to reports, the cheeses are typically smuggled across the Mexican border or are produced by families on both sides of the border who attempt to make ends meet by selling the so-called “bathtub cheese.” The term was coined after the practice of making the cheese in home tubs, or in backyards.

Concerned scientists from the University Of California San Diego School Of Medicine have issued warnings that improved screenings, treatment procedures, and public education are needed to prevent any further spread of the condition. According to statistics from that region, the new strain already accounts for 10% of all new cases of tuberculosis – with the possibility that it also accounts for others.

“M. bovis TB is a disease of antiquity,” according to Timothy Rodwell, a researcher that led a study that was recently published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “It is important that it not be allowed to re-emerge as a cause of TB in this country.”

Unlike more typical strains of TB, the bovine strain is not usually spread via contact from person to person. It usually settles in the lungs, making it more likely to be transmitted via breathing and coughing.

Chart Showing Death Risks Urges Smokers to Beware

Tue, 17 Jun 2008 14:20:00 +0000

June 17, Washington – Recent data is advising smokers to assume that their body is physically a decade older than it ought to be. According to a recent study delving into major health risks, a 55-year old man who smokes is at a higher risk level of dying within the next decade of his life as a 65-year old man who is a non-smoker. This was used as a stunning example of the proper context on some of America’s biggest death risks, as shown by a recently published series of charts.

However, risk is a tough concept to pin down objectively, due to how it mixes emotions and mathematics. Thus, people are often bombarded with a number of warnings of health dangers that have competing – and sometimes contradictory – assessments.

In the latest issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, a research team went through numerous deaths statistics gathered by the government and updated charts comparing the odds of death in the coming decade. Comparisons were made between different age groups and taking numerous conditions into account. The team was lewd by Dr. Lisa Schawrtz, from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction, Vermont.

The researchers developed the charts to stress the differences in death risks between age, gender, and smoking status. However, they chose not to include personal factors such as history of cancer – or other conditions – in the family.

The primary message of the charts is that risks are changing as people age. Accidents were found to be the single largest cause of fatalities in non-smoking men until the age of 45. The statistics show that accidents tie with heart disease until these men reach the age of 50, when heart ailments become the more prominent killer.

Smoking, based on the statistics, has an overwhelmingly negative effect on the chances of survival. In one example, a total of seven out of every 1,000 women were likely to die of breast cancer between the ages of 60 and 70. A total 14 out of 1,000 will die of heart disease within that period as well. However, the number of estimated fatalities increased to 31 for every 1,000 for heart disease and 41 out of every 1,000 for lung cancer.

Before, You’ve Popped, Now Try To Stop

Reasons why smoking is bad: Nicotine: a deadly poison Arsenic: used in rat poison Methane: a component of rocket fuel Ammonia: found in floor cleaner Cadmium: used in batteries Carbon Monoxide: part of car exhaust Formaldehyde: used to preserve body tissue Butane: lighter fluid Hydrogen Cyanide: the poison used in gas chambers Small amount of these harmful chemicals enters your blood and lungs every time you smoke. They travel to all parts of your body and cause damage. According to many, quitting smoking is not easy. He / She need strong determination to achieve it successfully. Smokers who want to should decide positively and avoid negative thoughts about how difficult it might be. There are many ways to quit. Some of these are by replacing it with new habits, planning special programs and consulting professionals or ex-smokers. Smokers should also have reasons why he / she want to stop so he / she can prepare himself / herself. Begin by conditioning your body. It has four different brand names: Zyban, Wellbutrin, Budeprion and Buproban. These are all available over-the-counter or you can buy online. These medications have the ability to decrease the amount of nicotine and the urge to smoke. [...]

Thu, 28 Feb 2008 12:44:00 +0000

Cinnamon is widely used both in the food and pharmaceutical industry because of its antiseptic properties. The cinnamon bark oil is used as a flavoring for digestive aids, liniments, and oral care products. It is also used in many perfumes, soaps, and lotions. In addition, cinnamon leaf oil is used in the food industry as flavorings to candies, sauces, and pastries. The commonly used ingredient is actually the soft, inner bark of the cinnamon tree. This spice is now being heralded as the latest in the long line of herbal medicine wonders? According to research findings, one teaspoon of cinnamon contains 28 milligrams of calcium, one milligram of iron, fiber, and vitamins C, K, and manganese. The use of cinnamon dates back in Chinese medicine to 2800 BC, and is known as “kwai” in the Chinese language. Ancient Egyptians used it in the embalming process of corpses because of its fragrance. Medieval physicians used this spice to treat coughs, hoarseness, sore throats, and other types of infections. Cinnamon also has antibacterial and inflammatory properties that help reduce joint and muscle pain, especially the discomforts associated with arthritis. Many health specialists advice diabetics to take daily dose of cinnamon to regulate blood sugar levels. Immediate treatment for Tension Headaches

Fri, 22 Feb 2008 11:45:00 +0000

Tension Headaches were renamed from tension-type headaches, and were referred to as stress headaches, are one of the most common forms of headaches. These may occur at any age but the most victims of these are adults and adolescents. A tension headache may occur periodically or daily. When tension headache appears in less than fifthteen days in a month, it is called Episodic. When tension headache appears for a longer time like two or more times weekly for several months or longer, it is considered chronic. Unfortunately, chronic tension headaches sometimes persists for years.

When Tension Headaches attack, an acute illness on both sides of the head occurs. Tension Headache is a mild to moderate steady pain, tightness or pressure around the head and neck. In its most extensive form, the pain feels like a hooded cape that drapes down over the shoulders. The severity of the pain varies from one person to another, and from one headache to another in the same person. Many people report that the pain starts first thing in the morning or late in the day when work stress or conflict at home is anticipated. Possible cause of these headaches are environmental and or internal stress. This includes family problem, social relationships, and frustrations in everyday life like in school or work.

Tension Headaches really affects our everyday lifestyle. These must be treated immediately before worst comes to worst. For those who have Episodic Tension Headaches, there are an over-the-counter analgesics such as paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin. There are also many Pain Relievers on the Internet like Fioricet and Tramadol. When choosing the best pain reliever for you, you should also check the label and the possible side effects with other medicines your taking with. If you have questions or you are not sure what medications to take, ask your doctor or a pharmacist. If you are already experiencing Long term Tension Headaches or what so we called Chronic Tension Headaches, and pain relievers no longer help you, you should see a doctor for further advice.

The Double-Edged Sword Of Escapism

Thu, 21 Feb 2008 12:54:00 +0000

Getting away from the stress and anxiety of one's everyday situation is often cited as being integral to maintaining one's mental health. The standard advice is to face your fears and your problems, but most people would prefer to duck out of having to deal with the fear and anxiety for a bit. Contrary to popular belief, taking some time out of your life to indulge in a little escapism need not always be a negative. In some ways, letting your fantasies run wild in your head for a while can be a great form of stress relief. It may even help fight off some of the more common mental health disorders that people encounter. Escapism, as already stated, is an excellent form of stress relief. Taking your mind off all the worries and problems imposed upon you by modern life is relatively easy. Different people indulge in this in different ways. Some people prefer to engage in role-playing games, giving them the chance to temporarily live out a life that's different from their own. Excellent examples of this would be games like “Planescape: Torment” and “Fallout 2,” which lets players play out scenarios in a fantasy world and a post-apocalyptic setting, respectively. Others prefer to sit back and go through a good book to let their minds wander off. People tend to read different books, though highly imaginative works like the late Robert Jordan's “Wheel of Time” series and Terry Pratchett's “Discworld” series are good examples. Escapism can also be used to help stir a little creativity in a person. A number of people have reported being able to look at a situation and think of possible solutions better at rest, rather than while stressed out over a problem. It is not unusual to hear anecdotes from people saying that they realized the perfect solution to a problem that has been causing them stress while reading a book or watching a hockey game. This is attributed to the theory that the human brain sometimes can only develop workable solutions and ideas to existing problems if the person is not actually focused on the problem at hand. While this theory may at first seem contradictory, most mental health and neurology experts can contend that we're not entirely sure how the human brain works yet. However, escapism also has darker sides that must be watched out for. One of these problems is the use of escapism in a person who already has compromised mental health. It is generally ill-advised to help a person who is delusional or schizophrenic to engage in escapism, as this might reinforce their delusions and further loosen their grip on reality. Excessive escapism may also lead to someone experiencing social anxiety, as they begin to prefer the relative security and acceptance of fantasy over the chaos and conflict of reality. Some have also argued that escapism may lead to performance anxiety, as the person may find himself unable to handle a situation if it does not go exactly as it played out in his head. Escapism has also been viewed negatively with relation to social interaction. Social anxiety aside, most people that engage in too much escapism are seen as being socially unstable. Certain forms of escapism, such as video games or “Star Trek” have earned a mild degree of scorn among the general public, as well as some nicknames that are usually seen as derogatory.[...]

When The Quest For The Best Body Turns Worst

Tue, 19 Feb 2008 12:04:00 +0000

Body image is the sum of thoughts and feelings people have about their physical appearance. Oftentimes, the media tend to promote a body image that can be unrealistic. Featuring role models for beauty and weight who are unnaturally thin can affect the physiological and psychological well-being of young women, especially adolescents, who are just starting to become conscious of the changes in their physical structures.Women living in a culture focused on dieting and weight loss are more prone to develop eating disorders which are detrimental in one's health. Dieting and the weight loss pill industry may lead young people to develop eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia, as well as serious physical and psychological conditions, like lack of focus, depression, low self-esteem, and fatigue syndrome. Having an intense fear of gaining weight and a distorted body image can lead to extreme behaviors of over-exercising, too much dieting, over-eating, binging, self-induced vomiting, laxative abuse. A young woman who do not eat enough to keep her body working properly may be suffering from anorexia nervosa. Losing too much weight can make you become weak and unhealthy because of a poor diet. Most people with anorexia exercise too much in order to burn up the food they eat. They tend to "feel fat" even when they are actually losing weight. They try to convince themselves and the people around them that they are not hungry. They often take diet pills to control hunger and attempts to lose weight. Some of these pills side effects often make girls feel anxious or nervous. They drink caffeinated beverages that give a false sense of energy. Most people with anorexia develop emotional problems like low self-esteem, obsessive thoughts and behaviors. Anorexia nervosa is characterized by abnormal loss of weight, having distorted impression about one's body size, and unreasonable fear of becoming fat. Some of the symptoms of people with anorexia can be dizziness, heart problems, low blood pressure, low temperature and fainting spells. Anorexia can cause hair and fingernails to become brittle. Loss of hair on the head, dry skin, dehydration, and constipation are also symptoms of anorexia. People with anorexia experience anxiety, tiredness, and depression. Anorexia can also cause the growth of soft furry hair on face, back and arms, also known as lanugo. Since there is not enough estrogen to maintain the body's normal function, menstrual periods usually stop and bones become weal, leading to osteoporosis. The combination of osteoporosis and over exercising can lead to stress fractures. Another type of eating disorder is bulimia, a condition that makes girls resort to binge, or eat a lot of food out of control even if they are not hungry. Most people with bulimia often feel they have no control over their eating. After bingeing episode, people feel guilty and anxious that they desire to get rid of the food by self-induced vomiting or by exercising. People with bulimia may have unusual tendency to eat in private and hide what they eat from others or eat until they are uncomfortable and exhausted. Bulimia causes people to feel afraid or ashamed of themselves. People with bulimia may develop serious electrolyte problems, irregular menstrual periods, dehydration, swollen face, sore throat, tooth decay, dry and flaky skin, upset stomach, heartburn, constipation, depression, or weight fluctuations. Low potassium levels due to too much self-induced vomiting may lead to serious heart arrhythmias, or even death. Detecting bulimia may not be easy as someone can have a normal weight, but still suffer from the condition. Also, since they tend to be secretive about their eating habits, even their family and friends are[...]

Treat Depression and Live Healthy

Mon, 18 Feb 2008 11:22:00 +0000

Depression also called as “The Common Cold of Mental Health” is a mental health disorder that affects your body, mood, and thoughts. It even affects your everyday routine like the way you eat, the way you sleep, the way you think, and the way you feel about yourself. The people who's suffering from depression may experience difficulty with their short term memory. Negative thoughts and thinking also occurs in their mind. They always feel that they are sad and hopeless and the results of these are poor self esteem, excessive guilt and self-criticism. When they reached their serious depression, they have self-destructive thoughts. For some people, because of the negative emotions being experienced, they lack motivation and concentration they no longer enjoy activities that they once found pleasant experienced. Some types of depression run in families, indicating that a biological vulnerability to depression can be inherited. This seems to be the case especially with bipolar disorder. Studies have been done of families in which members of each generation develop bipolar disorder. The investigators found that those with the illness have a somewhat different genetic makeup than those who do not become ill. However, the reverse is not true. That is, not everybody with the genetic makeup that causes vulnerability to bipolar disorder has the illness. Apparently, additional factors, possibly a stressful environment, are involved in its onset. Psychotherapy can help treat depression. A significant number (50 percent) of patients with mild to moderate forms of depression obtain substantial symptom relief with psychotherapy. Many patients begin to feel the effects of psychotherapy in the first few weeks. Full remission rather than improvement is the objective of treatment. If there is no symptom improvement at all within 6 weeks, the choice of treatment modality should be reevaluated. For patients who improve but who are still symptomatic after 12 weeks, treatment with medication is a strong consideration.Maintenance Antidepressant medication is the most commonly known treatment strategy for mental health disorders. How do they work? It depends on the type of antidepressant. Basically, depression medicines alter brain chemistry by effecting neurotransmitters, the brain’s chemical substances which are responsible for various functions within the body. Anti-depressants are also used to treat other psychiatric and medical conditions. To obtain medications for depression, you need a prescription from a doctor, which can be filled at a pharmacy. A common mistake is stopping antidepressant medications without talking to your doctor first. Many people stop because of side effects and never talk to their doctor about other options. Now there are many different types of medicine for depression. Sometimes it may take several tries to find the right anti depression medication for you. The best antidepressant will be prescribed based on many factors such as the symptoms you’re experiencing, other medicines you’re taking, other medical conditions you have and the antidepressant’s potential side effects.[...]

Keeping Sexual Relationships Healthy And Safe

Thu, 14 Feb 2008 11:08:00 +0000

Getting involved in relationships with the opposite sex is part of growing up. Teenage girls and boys tend to think about what it means to be involved in a sexual relationship. There are many things to be taken into consideration before one should decide to have sex. There is the issue of morality which can make one feel guilty about premarital sex. Such guilt can play a major role in affecting one's emotional and psychological well-being, which usually leads to anxiety and depression. Health concerns are also on top of the agenda whenever a person decides to engage in a serious, intimate relationship. Sexual health is an important matter to think about since it is no longer safe to engage in unprotected sex. One must be aware that sexual relationships can expose people to the risk of getting sexually transmitted diseases (STD). No one can tell if a person is infected with STD. Even healthy-looking people can have the disease without them knowing it. Be sure that you and your partner are protected before engaging in any sexual activity. Unwanted pregnancy is also another consequence of sexual relationships which young people should think about. Many young people's future have been ruined by getting pregnant even when they are not yet emotionally and psychologically ready for the responsibility that teenage pregnancy entails. Even if you don't get pregnant or infected by STD, consider how you will feel if the relationship breaks up. Many young people are not comfortable talking to their parents about this situation. It is important that you have a trusted adult or health care provider with whom you can discuss all your concerns and worries. Times like these can be very confusing for most young people and having someone to talk to would do wonders to gain more clarity and objective advice about sexuality. Young people who make the decision to engage in any sexual activity should learn how to protect themselves aginst STD and prevent unwanted pregnancy. For contraception, there are various products out in the market that are effective in preventing pregnancy. Costs, methods of use, and level of protection against STD vary depending on the contraceptive. There are two popular types of contraception, namely: the use of birth control pills and the condom. Both contraceptives can protect against pregnancy and STD. Males use some types of contraception that are usually different from what females normally use. It is good to know all about the different types of female and male contraceptions if you are into a sexual relationship. Together, the involved partners should figure out the best choice for the two of them. The type of contraception can have an effect on the health of both people in the relationship. Only females can get pregnant, but both males and females can get STD. Sexual intercourse always increase the risk for unwanted pregnancy and STD. Practicing safe sex with only one partner who is uninfected and has no other sexual partners can greatly lower such risk. Birth control pills are small contraceptive tablets that usually contain two types of synthetic female hormones, the progestin and estrogen. This is called the "combination oral contraceptive". Estrogen and progesterone are produced by the ovaries. These hormones prevent pregnancy by suppressing the pituitary gland, which stops the development and the release of the egg in the ovary, called ovulation. The progestin hormone also helps to prevent the sperm from reaching the egg and changes the lining of the uterus. Birth control pills contain only one hormone called progestin and considered to be the "mini-Pill." This type of contraceptive works by suppressing ovulation and hel[...]

The Web Of Anxiety

Wed, 13 Feb 2008 04:04:00 +0000

In the modern world, anxiety is something that people have to constantly deal with. The stress that living in today's anxiety-filled world can wear down even the toughest people. There are countless pressures that a person has to deal with on a daily basis. These things can range from the mundane to the highly improbable. It doesn't help that the way things work also makes it hard for people to find ways to relieve that stress and anxiety. Some people just buckle under the strain and give up, but that is really just the tip of the iceberg. The fact is, all that anxiety can become the critical component in a dangerous mix of external and internal factors that can be severely damaging to a person's mental health. Anxiety, when combined with things like depression or insomnia, can effectively cripple someone psychologically. One of the many consequences of anxiety come in the form of panic disorders. The fear and anxiety gets to a point when it can no longer be controlled without the help of psychoactive medication. Panic disorders differ from an anxiety disorder in that the former does not necessarily require a specific trigger to kick in. Another difference lies in the fact that panic disorders have more severe physical side effects and symptoms than an anxiety disorder. In general, nausea, excessive sweating, and increased heart rate are all classic signs of a panic attack. More severe cases can also include muscle spasms, shallow breathing, sudden drops in body temperature, and an inability to fully coordinate physical activity. In contrast, an anxiety attack has less obvious physical symptoms, aside from the increase in heart rate and sweating. Another potential consequence of being unable to deal with anxiety is depression. As the stress and anxiety causes a person to be unable to perform his duties professionally or socially, it can cause a lack of confidence. In a world where one's purpose in life is defined by what he does and the people around him, this can be a massive problem. The lack of confidence only makes any attempts to perform even worse, eventually evolving into a crippling case of performance anxiety. If left untreated still, this problem can easily evolve into clinical depression, as the person loses all ability to see past his mistakes and perceived lack of ability. Obviously, this problem can be addressed by counseling early on, but the problem lies in it being detected by untrained observers during the earlier stages. Most people tend to dismiss the signs as nothing more than a phase or a temporary slump in a person's ability. Perhaps the most drastic consequence of stress and anxiety would be addiction. Gambling, narcotics, and alcohol are all things that a person can develop an unhealthy attachment to. All three addictions tend to start out as just stress relief for the person, until the mind begins to crave it and the body develops a tolerance for it. This process goes on until it becomes a mental health problem that could potentially destroy the person and damage his relationships with other people.[...]
