I absolutely agree with your thoughts about 'internet noise' fatigue. Now I just need to find a diversion/refuge from it as you have.

Hello Sarah! I had to comment as I'm a Somervillian too. I'm not technically doing cpd23 this year but am following (a bit more closely than I intended) - I really loved cam23 last year and got so much out of it but have a 4 week old baby and am on maternity leave so thought I shouldn't attempt cpd23 this year. Am reading lots of blogs and will probably end up joining in though...

Nice to see other Somervillian librarian web 2.0 types :)

Hi Suzan, great to find a fellow Somervillian amongst the 'cpd23-ers'! Despite Pauline Adams' inspirational presence in the college library, I chose to go down an entirely different career route for the first 20 years of my post-uni life...Only now am I attempting to make my way in the world of librarianship. Hopefully, Somervillian determination will get me there.

Thanks for sharing your story, Suzan - it's an excellent example of the principle that skills picked up on the way always tend to come in handy sooner or later!

I agree completely about finally now recognising some of the names on the CILIP ballot papers.

Oh what a great post, Suzan, so pleased you wrote your library routes.

Am delighted to discover another old Somervillian too, Pauline Adams was librarian when I was there too (which wasn't aeons ago but the library was still completely card-based and uncomputerised!).

I wish I'd thought to put a word of thanks in my final thoughts blog. But I hope it's implicit from what I did say.

a suggestion that institutions add their facebook and twitter profiles to the Libraries Directory. It is going to be difficult to keep this level of blogging and interaction going in term time

Thanks for the plug Suzan!

Yes hoping TeachMeet can keep things going (and even broaden out to reach non-cam23 people). This is one of the main things I hoped for out of taking part in cam23. And we are hoping that - if the TeachMeet is a success next month - maybe we could do another, maybe even bigger one in the new year?

I'm actively trying to think of other ways to build on what cam23 has built though, in the way of communication, interaction, etc.

Emma, the Cambridge Librarian TeachMeet is a super spin off from this programme. For me the buddy system did not continue for long, but perhaps more people will be inclined to take part in brown bag / journal discussion lunches or set up their own.

It will be interesting to see the take up.

Just had a try of it on my (limited) collection and it works OK. In theory, it could be one way of dealing with the 'I remember it was a big red book' book requests (except it doesn't work when books have lost their dust jackets).

Very good post, Suzan. I do admire your succinct way with words - how do people manage not to waffle? I can't see anything I'd disagree with. I may just stick a link to this post for my own reflective epistle.

I too am a lurker on Twitter, having made no Tweets to date and having accumulated 20 followers!

I blogged about the idea of people using Twitter at conferences, etc, and I wondered how I would feel if students started doing this during library inductions!

The idea of people twittering during meetings and suchlike is one of the reasons I'm not too enthused by the prospect of Twitter. The question is, how to use it in a professional capacity rather than as a bit of nonsense 'I'm having my dinner' oversharing.

Hello Suzan,

I'm not sure if this answers your question but each blog post comes with it's own url - so if you want to refer to a particular post, place your cursor over the post title (e.g. this post 'Editing the blog') and using the right button on your mouse, click, then select 'copy link location' and then paste that into the chosen place. Not sure how it would work on a Mac ...
