Free e-Commerce Zlio.com Shutting Down

Fri, 19 Aug 2011 07:22:52 -0700

Today Zlio sent me an email stating that due to financial problems they are permanently shutting their doors. Zlio.com was a free e-commerce service where users could create online stores within minutes and earn pay-per-click fees as well as commissions from products sold. Here is the slightly abbreviated content from Zlio that email:

Six years after its launch, we regret to announce that we are going out of business.

The service will officially end on September 11!

Zlio had a fantastic start, receiving capital from one Europe's largest venture capital funds, Mangrove Capital. In addition, we held advanced M&A talks with Google, which unfortunately fell through at the last minute.

Our strong initial growth was interrupted on September 27, 2007, when the majority of Zlio shops, which were generally very well ranked, saw their Google ranking drop dramatically, eliminating 65% of our traffic.

Despite our best efforts, and the opening of 380,000 stores to date, it has not been possible to regain our previous Google rankings, except in exceptional cases.

When we founded Zlio, we thought that you, members of Zlio, would successfully promote your shops among your circles. We did not believe that Google referencing would be so crucial. Unfortunately, it has proved to be indispensable.

Among the actions taken to improve our Google ranking, we approached an SEO company who claimed they were able to fix our problem.

In view of their poor performance, we assessed that this company had not fulfilled its obligations. Therefore, we entered into dispute with it, which resulted in a court case whose sentence was rendered on July 26, 2011. This ruling is available on the website of the Paris Commercial Court (Tribunal de Commerce de Paris).

This decision sentences us both to pay the whole of a service that we still believe have not been provided and to pay damages for publishing our opinion about Referencement on Twitter. The latter part of the sentence has already drawn much attention in the French media.

This sentence means we cannot go on. The service has been losing money for several years (which forced us to gradually reduce our staff), and the amounts to which we are sentenced to pay today no longer allow us to meet our obligations.

Nevertheless:

- We will settle all the commissions due to our members. If you have validated commissions, you are invited to collect them as soon as possible via your administration interface.

Click here to go to your administration interface : http://blogspace.zlio.com/admin/index.php?page=Commissions

If you have pending commissions, you will be able to collect them within the next few weeks as the merchants validate them.

- The Premium subscriptions that will still be active on September 11 will be reimbursed automatically in the next few days as Zlio commissions prorata their remaining months of subscriptions.

The shops will close on September 11.

The owners of active domain names registered through our service will soon receive an email with the information required to transfer their domain name to another website.

Thank you all for your trust!

We are proud to have invented such an innovative tool, but it soon became clear that our success was too dependent on search engine optimization, which we did anticipate.

Thank you all for your support, and see you soon!

The Zlio Team

PS: Throughout this period, our support is reachable by email to answer any questions at the address: http://www.zlio.com/help/contact
News about the service will be regularly published on our Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/zlio

Let's Get Started With A Few Ways to Earn Money on the Internet: Advertising Networks and Affiliate Programs

Wed, 17 Aug 2011 06:22:29 -0700

Here are a few ways to make money. I try out all the affiliate programs I list here on this website and only include the ones that do relatively well. When time proves them duds, I remove them from this blog. Right now I am making the best money from Google Adsense and Adland.
  • For the best of the easy-to-join Pay Per Impression (CPM) networks, join Adfly -- click here. With the right kind of traffic to your site, you can earn over $4.00 CPM (that is, over $4.00 for 1000 impressions). Click Here.

  • Click here for a list of CPM Networks that pay per impression.

  • Free Store with Free Hosting -- add anything and everything: plus get your free subdomain, customize your free store, and create and customize your own classifieds

  • Free Website with Multiple Revenue Sharing Opportunities, Paid Referrals (you get 15% of your referrals' earnings), and Free Hosting -- Very user friendly and state of the art. You can set up a money-making website in less than 15 minutes! And with multiple revenue sharing channels to choose from. Plus you can add your own code: I added my Adsense code to my site and I keep 100% of the Adsense earnings.

  • Advertising Earnings: make money and advertising credits referring customers to classified ads and sites

  • Referral Community: 1000s of members sharing traffic, referrals, forums, and communities that bring you referral earnings and help with your sales; pays on time every time. They have consistantly paid us.

  • Free Ads | Safe Email Ads: You earn 10 cents every time you give away a free advertising account; plus you earn commissions when your referrals upgrade their accounts. We have been paid in the past and have every reason to expect to be paid again in the future.

  • Choosing an Affiliate Network

    Sun, 31 Jul 2011 09:50:56 -0700

Personally I prefer the Google Affiliate Network and (maybe) the Panthera Network: CPA Global Publisher Network Click Here. I know that Google is big enough to protect my personal information and Tax ID. Google has always paid me on time and offers tons of affiliate programs. And I know that Google is not going to skimp on bandwidth.

When I say "affiliate network," I mean a website that offers many different affiliate programs sponsored by numerous merchants and businesses (businesses like IBM, Dell, Bell, Apple, and Macy's, for example). Merchants join the affiliate network in order to recruit affiliates (who will then advertise and sell the merchants' products). Affiliates join the network in order to make money selling products or finding "leads." The affiliate network acts as the middleman and keeps track of earnings and payments.

    (image)     (image)

Now the problem with the little affiliate networks is that they are usually too small to adequately protect your personal information and Tax ID. (Even the big banks and retail chains have had problems protecting credit and debit card information, and these big guys have paid big money for top-of-the-line security.) And these little affiliate networks often decide to nickle and dime everybody over bandwidth: They often terminate your participation in a particular affiliate program when they figure you're visitors and customers are wasting bandwidth clicking on merchants' banners. In other words, they figure that many of your visitors and customers are not qualified to make an actual purchase (because, for example, your visitors and customers live overseas).

There! Little affiliate networks are often just too little. . . . BUT I am now also trying out LinkShare! Bringing revenue to your website(image) , LinkShare UK(image) , and the Zanox Network.

    Check Your Affiliate Links

    Sun, 24 Jul 2011 11:31:54 -0700

You should make sure that your affiliate links are working. Check them out every two months or so. Recently I found that my old Chitika affiliate referral link https://chitika.com/mm_overview.php?refid=dvdann takes my readers to a page that no longer exists on the Chitika website. My new referral link is https://chitika.com/publishers/apply.php?refid=dvdann

I may have missed Chitika's announcement stating that the referral links were changing. I don't know. And maybe the old dysfunctional referral link still correctly attributes new affiliates (ad publishers) to me when they navigate to the sign up page, but I'm sure that the correct referral page, https://chitika.com/publishers/apply.php?refid=dvdann, is more effective.

    The Top Paying Advertising Networks

    Sat, 23 Jul 2011 21:04:07 -0700

During the past year, I had the most monetary success with the following (easy to join) advertising networks. They paid best:

    1) Google Adsense

    2) Chitika

    3) Sponsored Tweets

    4) Kontera

    5) Adland and

    6) Bidvertiser.

Please note, though, that you will want to balance these competing networks. Having more that one advertising network on your website can actually hurt your advertising income when lower paying ads compete with higher paying ads. So keep an eye on how much you make from each network and keep an eye on the pay per click rates. And if you find independent advertisers who will accept the fact that you will only post paid "nofollow" links and banners, affiliate-type links with unique identifiers (like http://adf.ly/?id=214404) and JavaScript (like the code Google Adsense provides), make sure that they pay enough to compensate you for the fact that their ads take traffic away from your pay-per-click ads and networks.

SOLVED: Feedcat.net Hacked? Is Your Site Redirecting to continue_.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html?

    Sat, 23 Jul 2011 17:00:11 -0700

If your website is mysteriously redirecting to

    http://continue_.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAIKDZBVZT6ABSN6MA&Expires=1311380327&Signature=mb6bZtwVtRx7LKWE7uPJ9znhSfc%3D

and you have the Feedcat.net button or tracking code on your site, then delete the Feedcat.net code. The code and button are invisible at the present time, so do a search of your own source code.

At the present time the Feedcat.net code will redirect your traffic to someone else's advertising. This situation may change in the future, and I noticed that the Feedcat.net site itself sometimes redirects to the continue_.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html URL listed above, but for now just delete the Feedcat.net code and then check back with Feedcat.net for future developments and explanations.

    Free Viral Advertising

    Mon, 05 Jul 2010 07:08:22 -0700

Of all the so-called viral marketing techniques out there on the Internet today, I find this Free Viral Advertising service to be quite easy to implement and understand: Traffic Digger.

Sure, viral videos will bring you lots of short-term mileage, but the creative process involved is quite labor intensive, and the "glow" wears off fast, especially when your video content is just downright silly! (Silliness will not save your neighbors.) So if you are not willing to spend years attempting to create something earthshaking, then go for the simpler routes. Even rock stars are forgotten.
