Ahh, ok I see now... Its point was really escaping me. I tend to use bit.ly for shortening urls for twitter and facebook. It stores the shortened links and analysis of retweets or click throughs on each link also.

I shall attempt to use it this week for twitter and see how I get on.

Cheers for that Niamh!!

I find pushnote handy for retweeting a webpage that I like. I know most web pages have a 'retweet' function but they don't shorten the url like pushnote does.I'm not into the whole friends thing - 'be the first of you friends to rate this page' etc but I'll definitely use it for retweeting the web pages I like. My facebook page is a personal one but the same function could come in handy for a library facebook page. We don't have a facebook page for our library *sigh*.

Yes it's good to see that EVERYONE should consider their online presence carefully and realise the impact it could possibly have personally and professionally. Good tips for the separation between your personal and professional accounts. I'm thinking of setting up a personal account on twitter fairly soon where I can be even more relaxed and informal than I am already!

Thanks for the link to the cyber footprint blog.
Re facebook, after a few years I stopped following, or defriended students once they had graduated on my personal account since it is largely used for keeping in touch with extended family and friends. I try to keep twitter for professional use but do not set up feeds between accounts.

Thanks! It's the shelves at classmark 37.63 (Marxism) in the library, although we've just moved it all around, so perhaps it isn't anymore...

You see, if I don't do Pilates then, I won't do it at all! I'm way too lazy post 6:30 pm for anything other than a book, a murder mystery on t'telly, or some leisurely web browsing :0)

Thanks for your kind words of solidarity and encouragement! See how bad I am? Only just logged in again to catch up with Things 1-4!! I'm determined to not get as far behind this time :)

It'll be easier the second time. I guess it will come down to doing each thing the same week so it does not get out of hand.

Words of advice from me, the world's worst procrastinator.

Oh hurrah!! There's hope! I've been ill with flu, which has set me back EVEN further with work :(

I'll keep trying to power through though. Marathon Thing session tonight methinks, whilst mini Kenneth is at her pater's.

Lady Kenneth, such determination is commendable, and way above the call of duty. Get yerself a cup of tea, calm down with 'Ma Crepe Suzette' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi8-hehfwXU [which you probably know off by heart anyway...?] and then abandon Twitter for the delights of Flickr [Hey, that's almost a poem!]

Hola Jenni,

Your poll. Yes, I was the girl directly being addressed by teachers when they said: "Read the exam question all the way through and then read it again". Clearly this is leading up to me admitting I thought the poll was about your site, as I hadn't read the blog post that came with it. I chose multiple answers - 3 so that devalues my opinion by two thirds I think - and THEN I read your post. Anyway, I've decided that whether the poll is about your blog or cam23 the answers are the same. Therefore you can use the statistical data scientifically.

Salut Jenni,

Oh Lady Kenneth Williams - super, super, super. I not only have read Asterix in the original I've still got them, they might even be first editions!!! I love Tintin too. Anyway, on the slightly work side of things. Do you think/know that students have or use igoogle pages? I often see ours checking their gmail but can't recall seeing any igoogle pages being used, though that could be due to the fact that I wouldn't have recognised one having dismissed such pages when I first came across their like in Yahoo.

2010-06-04T16:19:58.591+01:00

I also sadly cannot read Asterix in its original French, however knowing that Ms Bell lives up the road has made my day! I had no idea... See you learn something new every day :)

As for Wodehouse, all I can say is that I'm sure I was born in the wrong decade, and possibly the wrong gender. I know deep down I was destined to be a member of the Drones Club and throw bread rolls at dinner time, as any young gentleman of a certain means is supposed to ;)

Anyway, thanks for the comment, it's encouraging to know that we're all engaging with each other and developing an online community!

I know for thing 4 we are supposed to start interacting and commenting on people's posts. Your igoogle page looks much more exciting than mine. But really just wanted to comment on your profile as I also love Wodehouse and Asterix (not so much with shoes and cheese!) Unfortunately cannot read Asterix in the original but I did get excited when I read that Anthea Bell lives in Histon - so just up the road and I may have passed her in town!

Not really related to things but still ...

Hey Sonia!

Well done for finding me! I was having difficulties locating my own blog at one point, plus I changed the name several times...

I will check your blog out over the next few days whilst trying to fiddle about with mine even more.

Similar to you I can't quite make my mind up about most of the "Things". I like them as a concept and can see their appeal, however it's hard to separate the personal from the work-based advantages. Plus I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed by it all. I think I'm just happy using the small bits of the internet that I'm used to and don't have enough interest unfortunately to delve too much further...

We'll see if the following "Things" will change my mind!

I'm not going tonight no, however Thing 5 looks like we'll be scheduling a playdate with our buddies, so I'll see you then :)
