I use Disqus on my blog, essentially it's a comment management tool I use to manage who can comment on my posts. I first began using it when I moved to tumblr as they don't automatically provide you with a comment system. What's interesting about Disqus is that your identity goes with you wherever you comment, newspapers, blogs, etc. Very useful!

Ah excellent! It was worth posting then. I saw your curious Videojug invite. Looks pretty good to me but I reckon be cautious!

Thanks. I will check it out forthwith!

I remember that Girl in the Moon used Tagxedo. I don't remember any of the others at the moment.

Several people seem to have had problems with Wordle. Some used Tagxedo instead (http://www.tagxedo.com/)

Wordle works fine for me. Possibly a computer issue?

This is yours.

Hi Guys - thanks for the comments. Good to know my Fen musings are appreciated!
I like this idea of the cow ramp. Doubtless the local youth would find a way to paly with it too...

A beautiful slice of fen life, but it isn't just the fens that produce these moments. I've had a fox dart across my cycle route, a stricken rabbit in my path, moorhens, squirrels, kingfishers, swans, ducklings... the list is endless. However, your post is truly evocative of the scene and wonderfully written.

Like you, I'm somewhat sceptical of Facebook being used in libraries, but those who have gone ahead with it have done so because they feel students may be more likely to pick up information there than to keep checking their library website for updates. I guess it comes down to using as many routes as possible to maximise our presence.
As for Linkedin, I should point out that the amount of information included in a profile is at the discretion of the user, and to participate in any of the discussions one has to join the relevant group. But if you don't feel it is for you at least you know what it looks like now!

What an interesting little vignette. I quite feared for a while that it would be human body that was being hauled out of the ditch (I blame reading too much crime fiction). I read in the free weekly paper a few months ago that the council wanted a ramp to put in the Cam on Midsummer Common for cows that fell in the river, and I thought that sounded a bit daft. But maybe it wasn't after all!

I'm going to look at Delicious as an alternative to the lists of free resources we currently have available on the Library web pages. It might be a better way for us to present information to our readers - we'll see...

I'll probably use Slideshare for inspiration for the presentations we do for new students in September & October.

Half a point! I think you can have a whole one for that. Nearest thing I could come up with was using it as a prank; I think turning an Australian's screen upside down would be particularly annoying.

OK I take it back. I am using it. Not a lot but I am using it. The main reason is to set up email reminders for lunch duties!

Thanks for the link to the PaxCat pictures - it's really interesting to see how archives are using Flickr, especially as I'm working on a cataloguing project.

That's a really interesting point about the difference between library and archival cataloguing. The freedom of choice in archival structure is both very freeing and quite alarming!

I am indeed viewing it at the main RSS page with the link you give rather than following it in any kind of reader. Firefox and IE are both the same. Can't spot anything in my blog settings. Curious the feed hasn't picked up my screen shot either...

2010-06-23T14:02:03.211+01:00

I'm not sure about the truncation - what are you viewing it in? On the main RSS page (http://www.google.com/reader/bundle/user%2F06868313924869516916%2Fbundle%2F23%20Things%20Cambridge) it looks like a few of them are truncated, and I think this is a feature of people's individual blog settings. Most of them are there whole, though, and that's how they're coming through to me in Google Reader. Truncation isn't something I introduced on purpose.

I love the Bizzare and Hurrah tag idea for Web 2.0 technologies, I'm having the same feelings about the "Things" we've done so far. Some are good and I find useful ie. google reader and igoogle and others I'm just not convinced about although am trying to give them a go i.e. Twitter.
